The academic year 2006-07 was one of both transition and success. Our previous Dean, Laura Tyson, returned to the US after five years leading London Business School to resume her teaching and to give more time to her various board and political activities. Sir Andrew Likierman, Professor of Management Practice in Accounting, became Acting Dean in January. Andrew led the School astutely and with rigour. On 1 September 2007, Robin Buchanan, the former Senior Partner in the UK of Bain & Company, became the School’s seventh Dean. We are fortunate to have attracted someone of Robin’s calibre. Whilst London Business School is indeed well-placed on the global stage, the commercial perspective that Robin will bring to bear will be invaluable at this point in the School’s life. He is recognised by cutting-edge businesses for his thinking around corporate strategy and board effectiveness. His leadership style is results driven, client-focussed, high-energy and team-orientated.

I know he is looking forward to building on our efforts by continuing to recruit the best faculty, delivering the finest degree and executive programmes and strengthening the School’s financial firepower to achieve its aims. His record in the commercial world, in particular his skills in nurturing relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, will ensure that the School becomes even more effective at meeting the needs of both students and businesses. I am proud of the School’s achievements this past year and am especially fortunate to be Chairman of the Governing Body of this enterprising and great institution.

Sir John Ritblat Chairman, Governing Body

Welcome

London Business School is in a position of considerable strategic strength. We enjoy three competitive advantages that, taken together, make us unique: we have world-class faculty and students, from all over the world, and we are grounded in London.

We are hugely successful against a broad range of measures. Our faculty are thought-leaders, called upon regularly by business practitioners and the world press. Our programmes are top-ranked. Employers rate our graduates highly: 99% of our full-time Masters in Finance and 97% of our full-time MBA graduates secured job offers within three months of graduation in 2006.

A highlight of the past year has been the successful launch of our Dubai operations. Since March 2006, we have delivered two Executive Education programmes and welcomed 78 new students to our Dubai-London Executive MBA. Our Dubai venture helps to meet a critical need for top-quality management education in the region. It also reinforces London Business School’s strong links with the Middle East.

The addition of the Dubai-London programmes to our portfolio is a signal to high-calibre individuals and organisations: business education from London Business School, be it taught in London, New York or Dubai, is a platform for sustained success in today’s complex and interdependent world.

Our research continues to receive international attention. In the past year, faculty won more than a dozen prestigious awards for their scholarship. Their work received extensive, international media coverage. We were very pleased to grow our faculty by an additional 13 academics during the year. This will enable us to produce even more high-quality and relevant research.

Our MBA rankings continued to place us among the world’s leading business schools. Such recognition helps us to attract the highest-quality students. In a remarkable year of achievement, teams of students were recognised at a wide range of international competitions for their investing and entrepreneurial prowess. A group of London

Business School students and alumni even reached the summit of Mount Everest.

Over the year, even though there was no major campaign, we raised £5.8 million in gifts and pledges, with more alumni supporting the School than ever before. The donors whose names appear in these pages are crucial to ensuring our future success. We are deeply grateful for their support.

Success brings its own challenges. Your School’s leadership has defined our strategic imperatives as falling into five areas: strengthening the School’s global reputation and relationships; increasing the quantity while maintaining the quality of our faculty; improving our degree and executive education programmes; increasing the quantity and quality of our space; and ensuring we have enough money to secure the continuing success of the School.

We have so much to celebrate. In the pages that follow, we document some of the most exciting research, achievements, events and programme highlights of the past year.

“ The addition of the Dubai-London programmes to our portfolio is a signal to high-calibre individuals and organisations: business education from London Business School, be it taught in London, New York or Dubai, is a platform for sustained success in today’s complex and interdependent world.”

London Business School’s international reputation for excellence in business education and research continues to grow. News from London Business School reached more media outlets in the past year than any other on record.

Our press coverage rose 9% year-on-year. Coverage in targeted US publications is up 30%. Our focus on Hong Kong and China is beginning to pay off, with several feature pieces in top publications, such as the Hong Kong Economic Times and the South China Morning Post. The School continues to average five mentions per week in the Financial Times, and enjoyed an 83% increase in coverage in BusinessWeek.

For the fourth year, the School promoted its thought leadership on CNN TV, profiling Professors Lynda Gratton, Nader Tavassoli, Rob Goffee and Francesca Cornelli. You can view these ads on www.london.edu/cnnads/

We have also varied our output to great success. During the year, we produced more than 50 podcasts with faculty, business leaders and staff. These seven-minute recordings have been downloaded almost 100,000 times and range in topics from the Chinese economy to managing organisational change. Shortly after posting our first podcast in January 2007, they quickly rated among the top five downloads on the iTunes business list. The podcast series from the Global Leadership Summit, produced by The Times, was downloaded more than 40,000 times.

In December 2006, London Business School announced that it would deliver an Executive MBA and Executive Education programmes in Dubai.

The programmes were made possible through a partnership instigated by the support, leadership and vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai, and greatly assisted by His Excellency Mohammad Al Gergawi, Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs and Chairman of The Executive Office. Activities are located at the Dubai International Financial Centre, where its Governor, H.E. Dr Omar bin Sulaiman and his team provided the School with support and assistance. By operating out of Dubai, the School is better able to offer its services to clients and to meet the existing and growing need for executive business education in the region.

The School has already offered two Executive Education programmes in Dubai, one on Hedge Funds taught by Professor

Narayan Naik (Finance) and another on Decision Making for Leaders taught by Professor Zeger Degraeve (Management Science and Operations) and Dr Madan Pillutla (Organisational Behaviour).

We also launched the Dubai-London Executive MBA programme – the first degree programme the School has offered on its own outside of the UK. This dual-location programme was instantly popular. In just eight months we received more than 3,000 enquiries and 450 applications for the inaugural class. Ultimately, 78 high-calibre students from 30 countries joined the programme in September 2007 – an excellent start to this important initiative. The School’s leadership, led by its Dean, faculty and staff and greatly supported by its Governors and members of its Regional Advisory Boards (notably the Chairs of the Middle East and Asia Boards and Governors, Saeb Eigner (IEMP97) and The Hon Apurv Bagri, respectively), as well as alumni (notably the Dubai Club and members of the IAB), have all worked together to achieve this tremendous result.

Saeb Eigner provided crucial support and guidance that was instrumental in the successful creation of this initiative. Professor Zeger Degraeve, London Business School’s Faculty Director, Dubai, has overseen the development and the launch of the School’s programmes in Dubai. Professor Nirmalya Kumar, who together with Professor Degraeve is the Middle East Regional Advisory Board faculty advisor, has also been instrumental in developing this programme.

Celebrating our multinational global community

“Moreandbetterspaceisimportant.Wearereviewingoptionsforacampusenlargementthatwouldimproveourstudentandcommunityspace.”Robin Buchanan

Events on campusThe past year saw more than 100 events on campus. We were privileged to host Chancellor of the Exchequer, the Rt Hon Alistair Darling MP, for his first-ever policy speech in July. We also hosted former Presidents, including Carlos Salinas of Mexico plus Andrés Pastrana Arango of Colombia, and India’s Finance Minister, P. Chidambaram. The School’s fifth annual Global Leadership Summit attracted a record 760 business delegates to hear an impressive line-up of speakers. Harvard Professor Niall Ferguson launched the event with an explosive historical analysis of geopolitical risk, prompting a rather gloomy outlook for the economic future, saying that war was “less improbable than we assume”. Visiting Professor of Strategic and International Management Gary Hamel looked to the power of the internet. In his presentation on the future of management, he said that traditional management orthodoxies must be challenged.

StudentsOur 1,400-plus students organised a range of insightful and well-attended conferences. Among the year’s highlights were the Women in Business Conference and the Global Security Challenge (GSC), a competition to find the most promising security technology start-up in the world. GSC offered a US$10,000 grant to its winner, British firm Ingenia Technology. Students also organised Tattoo, Summer Ball

and various social and professional events, trips and conferences. Regional events, hosted by student clubs with support from members of the School’s seven Regional Advisory Boards, included the Latin America Business Forum, Africa Day, India Business Forum, and Middle East Day. Last year, our students received dozens of awards and external recognition for their work. The following is a selection of global competitions won by our degree student teams:

HSBC Global Deal Competition European Business Plan of the Year Competition in Milan

The Europe/Africa/Latin America Regional Final of the Global Social Venture Competition 2007 (joint winner)

Alpha Challenge, an annual stock picking competition organised by the University of North Carolina, Kenan-Flagler Business School

The 2006 Carl Marks Student Paper Competition, General category

MBA Tournament (MBAT).

AlumniOur 27,000 alumni connect to the School in a range of ways. More than 1,000 designated alumni volunteers have helped to raise the School’s profile and attract students to our programmes. These volunteers have extended their local networks and built our global community throughout the year.

Others demonstrate their passion for the School as club leaders. In May, leaders from

15 European countries spent a weekend at our inaugural European Club Leaders Conference in Zurich. The event helped to further strengthen our club network.

The launch of our online Alumni CV Database and Job Board helped to enhance our range of Alumni Career Services. Since its launch in 2007, more than 2,500 alumni have registered for this service.

AlumniNews underwent a complete re-design in September 2006. The new look AlumniNews is easier to navigate, and better highlights the achievements of the School, our faculty and alumni. The quarterly magazine is printed and mailed to more than 20,000 of our alumni, governors and friends of the School. It is also available on the School’s Portal.

StaffOur 450-plus professional staff members play a vital role across the School. In the past year we filled nearly one-third (a record) of jobs internally. We launched a new staff development programme, which has received excellent feedback, and plan to run a suite of such programmes in 2007-08. Our diversity policy work has now been completed and our focus will be on operationalising these policies, including diversity training. We have updated our Health and Safety Policy and have drafted a Sustainability Policy.

Our aim is to produce graduates who possess the ability to lead others and implement change on a global scale. We do this by developing excellence in both core and specialist business skills; turning theory into practice through an increased emphasis on project work; and teaching our students to flourish in cross-cultural environments. They are prepared for business anywhere in the world.

Employers recognise their value. In 2006, 97% of our graduates received full-time job offers within three months of graduation.

2006-07 was one of the busiest years on record for full-time MBA admissions. Application volume rose again, with well over 2,000 applicants for our 315 seats. We continued to extend the range of marketing initiatives we utilise to attract new students in a highly competitive market, and rely more than ever on the contributions made by alumni and current students.

We will continue to ensure the full-time MBA programme is as flexible as possible.

An increasing number of students – now one-third – wish to complete the course in 15 and 18 months. Our challenge is to deliver this flexibility whilst retaining all the content of the 21-month model.

In 2007-08, we will increase our emphasis on individual student contribution to the classroom and it will become a feature of the final grade in almost all core courses. To further improve our students’ presentation skills, they will also be required to present in their core classes.

For the first time in October 2006, the Financial Times incorporated global Executive MBA programmes in its rankings. We are proud that our innovative EMBA-Global programme, offered in partnership with Columbia Business School in New York, was ranked second in the world. We went on to recruit a strong class of 71 students in May 2007.

In 2007-08, EMBA-Global students have the option to participate in two (previously one) of the seven international assignments offered by both London and Columbia Business Schools.

Executive MBAQuality indicators for the Executive MBA programme continue to improve. Our students’ average GMAT scores continue to rise, as does the number of nationalities represented in our most recent intakes in January and September.

In 2006-07, the Capstone week was introduced to draw together all strands of our students’ learning, and to establish how they will take these lessons forward. Capstone was very well received and will run again next year.

The Sloan Fellowship enjoyed strong interest from potential candidates in 2007. We ultimately recruited 58 students to the programme – eight over target. Our ongoing partnership with the Women’s Scholarship sponsors Saatchi & Saatchi and SpencerStuart continues to help in recruiting strong female candidates. This year’s winner, Kimberley Warden, is a lawyer and political lobbyist from the US.

2007 saw the launch of the Pricewater-houseCoopers Sloan Fellowship prize. Students were assigned an essay question based upon their Sloan Fellowship international assignment to China. PricewaterhouseCoopers awarded prizes to the two best projects at a high-profile awards ceremony at the Institute of Directors in London.

The finance group was established by four faculty members in 1974. Since then, it has become one of the world’s leading centres of finance research and education and now counts 25 faculty members.

Our ongoing, exceptional finance research bolsters the Masters in Finance programme’s reputation as the pre-eminent programme for finance professionals. This past year, we saw our students gain top prizes in international competitions for finance students. And despite growing competition – more schools now offer specialist finance degrees – our 12-year-old programme is still seen as the best. In fact, the programme received substantial coverage in the Financial Times in July.

Employers agree. In 2006, 99% of our full-time MiF graduates accepted full-time jobs within three months of graduation. And employers fully or partially support 69% of our part-time students.

In the past year, we were pleased to offer students seven scholarships (previously two), to support their studies. Two of these scholarships are earmarked for African nationals and generously funded by the Allan and Nesta Ferguson Charitable Trust. Two others are supported by Deutsche Bank and Citigroup for female candidates of exceptional promise.

In August 2006, the Masters in Finance became a CFA Program Partner. This designation is awarded to academically rigorous programmes that are closely aligned with professional practice. Five scholarships were awarded to Masters in Finance students who wanted to sit the CFA exam while studying at the School. The programme continues to change so that it is as relevant to participants as possible. This past year, we added a new elective, Credit Risk, which attracted 98 students. We take great pride in our continuing high student satisfaction results. In fact, our full-time MiF students gave the programme a 4.4 out of 5 rating for their overall satisfaction.

The PhD Programme completed an excellent year. Top journals continue to recognise our students’ research, and our graduates enjoyed successful academic job placements.

This year we hosted our seventh annual Trans-Atlantic Doctoral Conference. More than 100 PhD students from the top business schools discussed their latest research. They received high-quality feedback from, and networked with, fellow participants; and explored common research interests with our faculty. The Society of Advancement of Management (SAMs) sponsored this student-run conference, and will do so again in 2008.

This year’s achievements include:

Strong academic placements INSEAD, France, IESE, University of Navarra and New Economic School, Moscow (Finance) INSEAD, France (Strategic and International Management) Erasmus School of Economics, Rotterdam (Marketing)

Singapore Management University, Lee Kong Chian School of Business (Entrepreneurship and Management Science and Operations)

PhD students’ published researchAn important aspect of their work is building international credibility as researchers. Having papers published by the ‘A journals’, accepted as the top journals by academics, is a true achievement.

Susan Hill’s (PhD2000) paper with Julian Birkinshaw, ‘Strategy-organization configurations in corporate venture units: Impact on performance and survival’ was published in the Journal of Business Venturing.

Heidi Gardner (PhD2002) saw two papers published, each with N. Anand and T. Morris: ‘Knowledge-based innovation: Emergence and embedding of new practice areas in management consulting firms’ appeared in the Academy of Management Journal; and ‘Chartering new territory: Diversification, legitimacy and practice

area creation in professional service firms’, appeared in the Journal of Organizational Behavior.

Felipe Monteiro (PhD2002), with N. Arvidsson and Julian Birkinshaw, had ‘Knowledge Flows in Multinational Corporations: Explaining Subsidiary Isolation and its Performance Implications’ accepted for publication by Organization Science.

Open ProgrammesThe School enjoyed significant growth in its Open Programmes. Participant numbers across the portfolio of programmes rose

by 20% compared with the previous year. Our flagship four-week General Managementprogrammes and Finance Executive programmes experienced record participation rates and customer satisfaction levels.

Our world-renowned finance academics and our location in the world’s leading financial centre have supported the development of a rigorous portfolio of Finance Executive programmes. These programmes, like our Masters in Finance degree, are closely aligned with professional practice.

In 2007-08, we will expand our market depth in the Middle East and Asia through the delivery of more programmes in Dubai.

Our relationships with world-class companies such as Nestlé, Roche, PwC, Barclays, RBS and SABIC both deepened and broadened. Our programmes continued to be innovative and we endeavoured to respond to customer needs in the most creative ways, drawing on many more of the School’s resources. Our evolving relationship with the finance faculty helped us to attract

new clients and to deliver phenomenal custom programmes.

The School was commended for its innovative combination of education and work-based learning at the 2006 Managing Partners’ Forum (MPF) Management Practice Awards. The Best Learning Programme prize was

awarded to our custom programme for PricewaterhouseCoopers.

Despite such successes and many years of strong growth, CMD did experience a drop in revenue during the year. In 2007 we welcomed new leadership and our ambitious team has built a strong pipeline which bodes well for the coming year.

A combination of strategic global partnerships, hundreds of alumni activities and worldwide School events continue to bolster our global reputation.

Partnerships Our Dubai operations were launched through a partnership instigated by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai.

In its sixth year, our EMBA-Global programme with Columbia Business School in New York was rated No. 2 in the world by the Financial Times.

Babson College, Boston, and London Business School’s work on the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor has served as the definitive, annual measure of entrepreneurial activity since 1999. The in-depth report now covers 42 countries.

Our relationship with Hong Kong University saw 40 students complete up to five of their elective courses in London in 2007.

Alumni eventsThree key events dominate our Alumni calendar: Alumni Reunion (June), Worldwide Alumni Celebration (September) and Reunion for new Alumni (October). In addition to these headline events, more than 300 events were held this year, including the following:

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, November 006: The Deputy Prime Ministers of Singapore, Wong Kan Seng (MSc12) and Malaysia, Najib Tun Razak, appeared for the first time together on a public platform at the London Business School Malaysia Alumni Club Conference. It attracted more than 100 business executives from Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand, including London Business School alumni.

New York, USA, November 006: Alumni hosted a reception at the Dahesh Museum of Art which featured Gary Hamel, Visiting Professor of Strategic and International Management, on ‘The Ultimate Competitive Advantage’.

São Paulo, Brazil, November 006: More than 100 alumni, potential students, participants and Regional Advisory Board members attended the London Business School / IBMEC Global Forum. Dr Dominic Houlder (Strategic and International Management) spoke about ‘Managing Yourself: Making Your Commitments Match Your Convictions’.

Alumni clubsA dynamic global network of 65 alumni clubs has worked actively to build our community and raise the School’s profile. The London Alumni Club was launched this year, uniting alumni through a range of social events, engaging business leaders with the School community and delivering highlights of our faculty’s research.

Our second annual Worldwide Alumni Celebration was a great success on 28 September 2006. Alumni participated in parties and events, across 60 cities, ranging from camel rides in the Dubai desert to a Sydney Harbour cruise.

Encouragingly strong, record-breaking support from alumni, friends, foundations and corporations marked the year which ended 31 July 2007. The £5.8 million given in gifts or committed in pledges to the School strengthened our programmes and, importantly, supported the retention and attraction of world-class faculty and students.

Of special note this year are three endeavours which benefited from this generosity. First, assistance for students was expanded with 25 scholarship funds either established or significantly expanded. World-class business education is not without considerable costs. This is especially true for students in London. Gifts specifically earmarked for student scholarships were supplemented by the generosity of more than 1,200 donors to the Annual Fund. These donors provided financial assistance to an additional 36 students through the Annual Fund Scholarship scheme.

Second, support for faculty came in many ways. One highlight was the support of Man Investments with £117,000 to fund the Man Investments Finance Seminar Series for three years. The relationship allows the firm to have direct access to key members of faculty and their research, while supporting an important platform of intellectual debate, allowing faculty to challenge and hone their ideas. Third, it is remarkable that the graduating class of 2007 pledged £620,000 over four years towards the creation of campus space. With over half of all degree graduates and almost three-quarters of all MBA graduates committing to support campus improvements, we move forward with the confidence that this project has the support of those who know best our urgent facility needs, and that the School merits the investment of its youngest alumni.

2006-07 saw record numbers of alumni giving (1,474). Membership of the Capital Society (£1,000-plus gifts) rose 16%, as more alumni shared the benefits of being associated closely with the School.

Likewise, more companies than ever – over 80 – made gifts or grants to the School across the length and breadth of its programmes – from scholarships to event sponsorship, thought-leadership, faculty research, lecture and seminar series, and more. Corporate Partners at London Business School value our tremendous talent pool of students and alumni and recruit intensively on campus. They look to our rigorous research to help solve their most complex problems.

These generous commitments combined with the diligent use of resources are securing the future of our extraordinary School. We thank all whose names appear in this report for their support. Your gifts make a difference.

Treasurer’s report

Results for the year

Trea

The School continues to be financially sound, targeting breakeven or small operating surpluses each year. The School achieved a small like for like surplus in 2007 (compared to 2006) before the inclusion of a one-off charge of £2.2 million in 2007 resulting from an increase to the cash in rate paid to faculty for overteaching from 1 August 2007.

All overteaching earned but not cashed in at 31 July 2007 was revalued at the new rate. The new overteaching rate replaced a rate last agreed in 1998. As the School’s programme portfolio and student numbers continue to grow, the demand for our world-class faculty to teach is ever increasing. Increasing the rate encourages our faculty to commit more of their time to teaching our students. Should all the overteaching accrued be used to support a leave of absence at a future date there would be further costs to the School of £3.8 million. However, this possibility is considered remote and therefore has not been included in the Financial Statements.

The other key movement year-on-year was the inclusion of a realised gain on investments of £1.9 million within the surplus on operations in 2006. No investments were sold in 2007. Rather, an unrealised gain of £1.9 million has been included in the total recognised gains for the year in 2007.

Elsewhere, Degree Programme revenues continue to grow. Executive Education Open Programmes revenue continues to grow significantly. Revenues from the School’s Custom Programmes dipped slightly in the year but are now growing again.

Staff and faculty costs continue to rise. The School has, however, managed to maintain or reduce overhead costs due to better procurement. This remains a priority for 2007/2008.

Finally, it is worth highlighting that the School provided £4.9 million for the first time last year against the Staff Pension Scheme deficit. Revalued under FRS17 at 31 July 2007 the deficit has reduced to £2.9 million.

Unusually for a top ten business school, we still have no major endowment but continue to invest in its growth. Fundraising generated £5.8 million this year an improvement of £1.7 million compared to last year. Of this, £0.7 million came from corporate partners and sponsorship, £0.6 million in unrestricted donations and £2.8 million in restricted donations to add to our endowment.

ReservesGeneral reserves reduced by £2 million. Restricted reserves however increased by £2.1 million and the pension liability reserve decreased by £1.9 million.

Capital projectsThe School continues to require investment in its estate and facilities. During the year to 31 July 2007 the School spent £8 million against a planned spend of £8 million on capital projects. Student and faculty numbers are increasing. The School’s physical capacity needs to be continually expanded and the quality improved to meet demand.

Specifically, the School invested in upgrading the Executive Education bedrooms (£2.8 million); in adding research facilities (£2.2 million funded by capital grants of £1.2 million); in general improvement of the estate (£1.8 million); and in ISD (£0.9 million funded by capital grants of £0.5 million). This resulted in net capital expenditure of £6 million in the year. Depreciation of £5 million was charged resulting in a year-on-year growth in fixed assets of £3 million.

investment portfolio The School’s investment portfolio is managed by an external fund manager. Investment income totalling £0.9 million is included in the income and expenditure account for the year, of which £0.7 million was reinvested in the investment portfolio itself.

The market value of the portfolio at the year end was £32 million compared to £30 million at last year end. The performance of the portfolio is overviewed by the Investment Committee. The net return on funds during the year was in line with market benchmarks.

The futureIt continues to be the Vision of London Business School to be the pre-eminent global business school. Increases in academic fees in 2007 are planned to continue into 2008 as we continue to maintain class sizes and to grow our Executive Education Open Programmes portfolio, our Finance Programmes portfolio and our Executive Education Custom Programmes.

These increases in academic fees will, however, be matched by continuing investment in faculty and in the School’s estate.

Investments in External Relations and fundraising will continue as we strengthen relationships with alumni, global business partners and other similar institutions to build global partnerships. Our endowment is key to greater success and we will continue to reach out to our community to build this.

Thank you

It is a pleasure to acknowledge the many generous alumni, friends, corporations and foundations that supported London Business School financially during the fiscal year 1 August 2006 – 31 July 2007. The individuals and organisations whose names follow helped us attract the very best students and faculty through Annual Fund support or by funding major research initiatives, scholarships or campus improvement projects.

We also extend our gratitude to those individuals and organisations who have given gifts in kind that are too numerous to mention and to those who invest in the School by volunteering their time.

Your generosity makes the School stronger.

We are delighted to report that 2007 was a record-breaking year for the Graduating Class Gift, with an impressive £620,000 pledged by graduating students. Over half of all graduating students made a commitment to the appeal, which will support the School’s future plans for campus space.

Special thanks go Marshall Stark (MBA2007) for leading the appeal with such enthusiasm and drive, and to the 40-plus students who volunteered their ideas, time and energy to the appeal.

“The Graduating Class Gift is an opportunity for us to leave a permanent, positive mark on the School, and to send a message that we value our relationship with London Business School. The strong results from this year’s class prove that relationship is bearing fruit and that our recent alumni are committed to ensuring the continuing success of the School.”

Reunion Giving 2007

On the last weekend in June, we welcomed back 460 alumni to celebrate the anniversaries of their graduation. Alumni had a wonderful weekend catching up with classmates and reconnecting with the School.

Many alumni celebrating milestone anniversaries of their graduation choose to make a gift to the School. This year, a record 16 classes made Reunion Class Gifts and raised more than £400,000 in gifts and pledges in support of a variety of critical projects including scholarships, bursaries and the Annual Fund.

RIGHT: MBA97 fundraising volunteers present Acting Dean, Sir Andrew Likierman with a cheque for their 10-year Reunion Class Gift. (From left to right) Acting Dean, Sir Andrew Likierman, Marc Fischli, Julia Marsh, Iqbal Dhanji.

In honour of their 20-year reunion, MBA22 chose to set up the MBA22 Scholarship Fund for UK nationals. This fund will support three deserving MBA students over the next three years. A fantastic 23% of the class pledged £35,941 to the scholarship fund. A further commitment from a generous MBA22 alumnus to support case studies in the area of entrepreneurship brought their class’ total to an impressive £75,941.

“I am part of a generation that benefited from free education right the way through to university. I was also privileged to be sponsored by my employer during my MBA at London Business School and subsequently I’ve had the good fortune to enjoy a successful and prosperous career. I felt that it was now my turn to give back and our class’ 20th anniversary seemed an auspicious occasion on which to do this. I am delighted that many of my classmates also took the initiative to support the School at reunion time.”

Why are your gifts to the Annual Fund so important?

The Annual Fund provides a vital source of income for the School. Last year the Annual Fund helped:

n fund 44 scholarships for incoming students

n create two new seminar rooms n support influential faculty research

“Your help and generosity is a great source of motivation and inspiration for me. I truly hope that, thanks to my London Business School experience, I will be in a position to one day make such a donation to a future student.”

Vicky Tzivelis (MBA2009), Recipient of the David Pyott MSc13 Scholarship

In September 2006, Man Investments began a three-year commitment to fund the Finance Group seminar series, which brings faculty together from around the world to present their latest research. Recent subjects have included applying game theory to option pricing, and understanding what happens when foreign banks enter emerging markets. Man’s support enables this cutting-edge research to be better shared and utilised.

“As is often the case it is ideas and how they are implemented that are at the heart of successful businesses. Through support of the seminars we are building relationships with key members of faculty. Having access to and informing their research is incredibly valuable”.

Nick Wood, MBA93, Head of Central Investment Management, Man Investments

Friends

Many people who did not graduate from London Business School, but who are deeply committed to our Vision, support the School with gifts. They are our board members, faculty, staff, businessmen and women, philanthropists, and true ‘friends’.

Corporate Investors

Corporations provide vital support for faculty research and teaching, student support and initiatives. We thank the following companies for their investment.

Corporate support through endowed gifts

Endowed gifts to the School provide us with funding in perpetuity. Last year, Adecco completed its commitment, which endowed The Adecco Professorship in Business and Society.

“Isabel Fernandez-Mateo’s work is an excellent match with our own focus, and we will aim to assist her research in practical ways on various staffing-related topics. The Adecco Institute’s collaboration with London Business School and Isabel is helping to cement our role as a thought leader for our industry, and to enhance Adecco’s reputation as the world’s number one staffing firm.”

New Foundation and Trust Scholarships: Students have particularly benefited from the following new scholarship donations

Japan / UK The Daiwa Anglo-Japanese Foundation has generously donated two new scholarships to support one Japanese and one British MBA student per year for the next five years. The inaugural Yoshitoki Chino Memorial Scholars are Toshiya Tsutsumi (Japan) and Philip Waymouth (UK).
