PRESIDENT’S REPORT 2018-2019
The prestigious South Pacific Carnival and World Bowls Cup Singles were once again a huge success. Thanks to all
concerned, both events attracted numerous supporters and visitors to the Illawarra annually.
The introduction of combination pairs proved a real winner, as the event attracted top lady bowlers to the carnival. This
event certainly proved popular attracting 96 bowlers, and indications are that this event will become bigger and better
in years to come, the 61st South Pacific Carnival will see Kiama Bowling Club as the headquarters for this annual event
and the committee are planning for a first class carnival to coincide with their clubs 100th anniversary..
Woonona Bowls their 125th and Recreation Club will celebrate their 125th anniversary on the 14th September 2019,
with a full week of activities, both on and off the greens. Congratulations to both clubs.
To our loyal sponsors, who have again supported our Zone, a very big thank you from all in the bowling fraternity.
Without your ongoing support we could not provide trophies and prizemoney for the numerous events that occur on a
yearly basis.
Also, I would like to thank Michael Waldie for his ongoing assistance and sound advice to our treasurer, Ray Evans
who has now moved to Batehaven due to ongoing health issues.
Brian Huttly who was the Vice President now takes over from Ray as the Zone treasure. Harry Herring Zone 16 Secretary
now becomes the public officer for the zone, whilst Rob Clayton from Dapto Citizens Bowling Club now takes on the
role of Vice President. The Treasurer and Vice President so appointed will hold office until the next annual General
Meeting, scheduled for Monday 12th August 2019.
My personal thanks to all members of the Executive Committee who have ably supported me during my 10 years in
office, in particular I would like to place on record my thanks to Brian and Angela Gibson for the long hours that both
have put in to ensure that all goes well on the bowling front and to our secretary, Harry Herring who is a real asset form
the Zone.
Our Zone would also like to thank Greg Helm and his team at the BNSWBA who assisted us on a regular and timely
basis during the year. This year our Zone 16 teams have again performed well and are a credit to our Zone.
On a sad note was the closure of the Dapto Huntley and therefore not lost to our Zone Bowling Club Ltd. The majority
of their members joined other clubs and therefore not lost to the Zone.
To each member of the various Zone 16 committees, a very sincere thanks to your outstanding
Contribution to our Zone during the year under review. It is certainly a real pleasure to work with such a dedicated and
loyal team of officials, thank you all.
On behalf of all members of Zone 16 our condolences to all families who have lost loved ones during the year, our
thoughts and prayers are with you.
Next year will again be a challenge, but with the continued support of our clubs and members we will achieve our goals
of promoting, advancing and controlling the great game of bowls.

Secretary Report
2018 - 2019
It is with pleasure that I submit my report for 2018 -19. The Zone is in a strong position both administratively and
financially and for this I commend President Ken Forbes and those officers who have worked diligently and given so
much of their time for the benefit of the Zone. On the bowling front again thanks to Brian Gibson and his match
committee for another successful South Pacific Carnival hosted by Towradgi Park Bowling Club. This I believe is one
of if not the most successful tournament of its type in New South Wales and maybe Australia.
January 2019 saw the removal of our web page that Zone 16 has had for years, with the help of A Cottee (BNSW), D
Tyrrell (Windang) a new web page was created and installed with limited resources provided by BA.
I have put my hand up for another year as I have enjoyed working for the bowlers of the Zone.
Congratulations to Warilla for again hosting the World Bowls Cup Singles Tournament so successfully.
Congratulations to all our Zone pennant winners.
Unfortunely we have lost Leif Selby who has moved onto New Zealand, we thank Leif for his service to the Zone juniors
and wish him all the best in his future endeavors.
Shane Leonard & Jamie Nabbe (Warilla) have now come on board to run the Zone junior committee.
Ray Evans has done an outstanding job during his tenure as the Zone treasurer but unfortunately has resigned and moved
to Batemans Bay, we wish him all the best for the future.
The position has been filled by Brian Huttly who has severed time as the Zone vice president.
2019 has been a remarkable year firstly with Kiama Bowling Club celebrating their 100-year Anniversary of operations
and Woonona Bowling Club celebrating their 125 years of operations.
Congratulations to both clubs.
Unfortunately, Zone 16 is still experiencing lack of attendance by clubs at our management meetings, we have 22
member clubs and approximately we average eight (8) clubs attending.
For the Zone to continue operating in the interest of the clubs and their members, we require clubs to ensure that they
have representation at Zone management meetings.

MATCH COMMITTEE REPORT FOR 2018/19
On behalf of the Match Committee, I would like to thank all the bowls Coordinators/Secretaries for their assistance this
year, also the Clubs that assisted us by letting us use their greens. Green keepers deserve a mention also as the greens
were in good condition despite the wet weather.
All championships were completed on time and our zone will be well represented at the state playoffs
I would also like to thank my Match Committee for their assistance during the year.
ONCE AGAIN, zone numbers remained steady at about 2,700 halting the steady decline that had been occurring.
Pennants reverted to an early march start, but unfortunately wet weather caused some delays, however we managed to
catch up and finish the playoffs on time
A good cross section of clubs were represented in the playoffs, with 17 out of 22 clubs taking part. The playoff games
were very keenly fought out and hopefully we can get some good results at the state playoffs, Warilla will host the grade
6 state finals this year.
Towradgi hosted the 60TH South Pacific Carnival and did a very good job.
Kiama will host the 61st carnival at the end of the year during their centenary celebrations and are very keen to make it
a success
Warilla once again hosted the Club Challenge Finals and a very good week of bowls was played

SELECTORS REPORT 2019
Well the end of the Representative Season Bowling year is coming to an end.
First off all the under 25s played against Zones 5,10,12,13 and 15 at the Hills on the day the boys played
very well Zone 12 were the winners Zone 10 -2nd and Zone 16 finishing at very close 3rd I must say that the
Boys were a credit to their clubs and the Zones on the way that they conducted themselves on the day.
The over 60s had a very good year finishing equal 3rd at the Interzone play offs at Charlestown Bowling
Club going down to the eventual winners Zone 9 in the Semi-finals this was a great effect considering this
year was the first time that the Royal had introduced Quarter Finals so in the wash up Zone 16 won their
section then the quarter final then as I have said they were defeated in the Semi-final .
The open team will not get to play in the open Interzone as it has been Cancelled for this year .The Open
team played the Over 60s team for the Phil busby Shield at Windang and came out winners by 30 shots.
In finishing I would like to thank the other Selectors very much for the job that they have done during the
year . They were Tom Canvin,Jim Davis, John Delahunty and Joe Sharman.
Chairman of Selectors
Terry Seton
GREENS COMMITTEE REPORT
2018 – 2019
All bowling clubs within our Zone were inspected prior to the start of the 2019 pennant season.
Due to ongoing health issues my workload was reduced to a reasonable level due to the efforts of Vice President Bob
Upton.
We would like to thank all green keepers and their helpers for their ready assistance and sound advice during the
inspections, it certainly was appreciated by Bob and myself.
Thank you to all concerned for the efforts made to ensure that all greens were maintained to such a high standard.
I trust that my health will prove so that I can again be part of the greens committee next year.
Joe Gerards
Chairperson – Greens Committee.
UMPIRES REPORT 2018-19
Over the last 12 months we have had the list of Umpires checked by Bowls NSW and Umpires who have not re-
accredited or moved out of the Zone removed to bring the list up to date , Umpires who do not re-accredited with a 12
month period will have to do the accreditation course again ,
There been changes to the way the course is conducted and the main changes are to Re-accreditation with candidates
receiving all paperwork on the day , the main changes are to on the green and question and answer sheets this will
happen again in four years I hope
The committee has worked together to keep up with changes to Condition of Play and should not change be for two
years ,
As law books have only just been released, we have not had time to review the changes hope they are better than the
last books
To Windang Bowling Club and Figgy Bowling Club thank you for the use of your rooms to conduct our meetings

TREASURER’S REPORT FINANCIAL YEAR JUNE 2018 - MAY 2019
Income over Expenditure gave us an operating loss of $3,846 compared with a profit
of $20,264 last year.
Compared to last year, Sponsorship income was down from $19,890 to $13,450 whilst
sponsorship expenditure exceeded last year by $5,000 which has a significant bearing
on the overall loss this year.
Expenditure exceeded income in Zone Rep Matches by $11,301, and Zone
Championships by $5,523, totalling a loss of $16,824
The South Pacific Carnival also showed a small loss of $1,921.
Administration Expenses increased by $1,022 which was expected and is considered
reasonable.
All fees increased for the 2018-2019 year by 1.8% (CPI) in line with the resolution
passed by Management meeting after an increase last year of 1.9%.
Affiliation fees were slightly down caused by the closing of Dapto Huntley Bowling
Club. All other incomes and expenditures were in accordance with our expectations.
Members of Zone 16 can be assured that our Association is financially sound going
into the future.
