We are grateful for her many years of service and the wisdom she imparted to us along the way...and we’ll keep picking her brain as long as she lets us! According to our 2015 statistics, a patient presenting to the Neighborhood Clinic for care is likely to be a Caucasian English speaking woman or man between the ages of 31-49, living on less than $700 per month. These numbers continue to be fluid, as we see more and more patients of differing national origins and first languages, and more patients who fall into the category of underinsured.

Many thanks to those who have supported us indirectly through

donor voice programs. Although your names

aren’t listed here, we are equally as grateful for

your generosity!

AccordingtotheWashingtonStateOfficeoftheInsuranceCommissioner,in2015over500,000residentswereidentifiedasmedicallyuninsured.Thisincludesinexcessof50,000 uninsured adults in Pierce County, but does not include the many underinsured patients - those with high-deductible plans. Just on the healthcare exchange alone, we’ve seen deductibles as high as $6,600 - meaning patients pay full price for all “sick” visits until they reach that deductible. Lab tests, diagnostic imaging and sometimes prescriptions fall under deductibles as well, depending on the plan. What are other factors which bring patients to our door?

• Homelessnesscontinuestoskyrocketinourcommunity. While safety net organizations work to help the homeless obtain state health coverage, this is an ongoing challenge.

• Nosubsidies:Many community members make more money “on paper” to qualify for any subsidies through the Affordable Care Act, but find it impossible to pay full price premiums when other financial obligations such as student loans, previous medical debt, or unanticipated major expenses are cutting into that income.

• NoteveryoneiseligiblefortheAffordableCareAct(ACA)plans. All undocumented immigrants are excluded from the ACA, even those able to pay full price premiums. Without access to insurance, sliding scale and free clinics are the only health care options for many immigrants in this category.

Continued support from our donors is both appreciated and necessary - it’s crucial to the well-being of those in the community who need our free medical and dental services!

We’re Still Here...Here’s Why:
