The Research Centre for Innovations in Health Careof the Faculty of Health Care of HU University of Applied Sciences carries out research that results in innovations that improve patient care, clinical practice and education.

The goal of these innovations is to maintain independence and self reliance for those patients with (chronic) illness. The various research groups of the Research Centre all work towards this goal and are centered around care for older adults and familiy care physical activity and health, speech and language therapy, pharmaceutical innovations and care and technology. We carry out applied research on behalf of and in collaboration with health care professionals.

Teaching staff and students participate in our research too.

Four simple questions asked at admission to hospital can determine whether an elderly patient has an increased risk for the development of permanent functional decline. This questionnaire may improve care for vulnerable elderly.

Health care without technology is no longer imaginable. Technology has become an integral part of our existence and therefore also of health care. This concerns not just ICT and equipment for the delivery of medical, nursing and allied health care, but also appliances that enable independent functioning in an environment that complies with the demands of the patient.

11The Research Centre has performed a pilot within the Faculty of Health Care investigating the quality and (medical) ethical aspects of all human research related activities in research and education. In addition, the added value of a Medical Ethical Screeningscommittee (MES) has been investigated.
