Secretary’s Report

January –November 2019

Dear President, Hon’ble members of the Central Executive Committee and my dear members of the

AFST(I) family,

It is an honor for me to welcome you all to this 54th Annual General Body Meeting convened at most

beautiful city of Tezpur, named as the seat of Assamese culture. To begin with, I express my sincere

thanks to you all for the great opportunity of serving this renowned organization as Hon. Secretary for the

period 2019.

Also, it is a great honor for me to present the Annual Report of AFST(I) for the current year 2018-19.

The Central Executive Committee met five times during the year and discussed various agendas for the

betterment of AFST(I) activities and took several important decisions. With a view to motivate the

Chapters, two of the meetings were arranged at Chapters - one at Thrissur and another at NIFTEM,

Kundli along with the memorial lectures.

II. Membership

During the current year (2018-19) ‘Diamond Jubilee Life Membership drive’ with concessional fees

was extended on demand from many Chapters. The present membership of AFST(I) stands at 4828 of

which 3392 are life members. The dedicated efforts of the Credential Committee is laudable and to

be placed on record. During the year, decision was taken to offer honorary Corporate Membership to

MFPI, FSSAI and BIS in order to get their strong support in achieving the objectives of the

Association. A corporate Membership drive was imitated and special offer was launched.

Subsequently we are receiving new corporate members for the association.

III. Digitalization of AFST(I):

Online Membership: Functionality of online membership has resulted in remarkable increase in the

number of memberships and faster clearance of membership forms. In addition, the extended

Diamond jubilee offer also encouraged several food professionals to join AFSTI.

IV. E- Election: Shri B Vasu was nominated as the Returning Officer for current year’s elections of

Office Bearers. The results of the election will be announced officially later in this AGBM.

V. Annual Convention and other activities at Headquarters:

1. AFST(I) Building: MoU was signed between CSIR-CFTRI and AFST (I) regarding

renovation of the previous office building. This is a long term & renewable MOU between

CISR-CFTRI and AFST (I) without any financial commitment. It was decided that before

shifting the office, the previous building would be restored and renovated in consultation with

the Heads of Civil Engineering and PMC departments of CSIR-CFTRI. Restoration and

renovation will be done without altering the heritage look of the building. The restoration and

renovation will be undertaken by outside professional agency identified by the AFST (I).

Expenditure will be borne by the AFST (I) for the above said work. Quotations for BoQ have

been called with the scope of work. Further the matter will be handled by the building

committee.

2. Site of AFST (I): Consulted with legal advisor to restore the property.

3. Meeting with Indonesian Ambassador: A meeting was organized at AFST (I) office with

the Central Executive Committee members available at Headquarters of AFST (I) and

Indonesian Ambassador on 19th February, 2019 for future collaborative activities.

4. Guidelines for GST implementation for Chapters: In order to encourage the Chapters to

register GST, a handbook on GST guideline has been prepared with contribution from the

Mumbai Chapter and the same was circulated to all the Chapters after launching it in an event

organized at Anna University, Chennai, AFSTI Chennai Chapter being the first chapter of

AFSTI to complete their GST registration.

5. Appointment of First Division Assistant: Mr S. Naveen has been appointed as the First

Division Assistant in AFST (I) to look after the accounts and GST activities

6. World Food Day: During the year, financial support was given to 11 chapters for celebrating

World Food Day at their chapters. At Headquarters the World Food Day was celebrated with

Dr J V Bhat Memorial Lecture at DFRL on 23rd October, 2019.

7. Memorial Lectures: Dr J V Bhat Memorial Lecture was arranged at DRDO DFRL, Mysore

on 23rd October 2019 followed by World Food Day and unveiling of Selfie point of 27th

ICFOST-2019. Dr (Mrs). Neerja Hajela, Head - Science and Regulatory Affairs, Yakult

Danone India Pvt. Ltd delivered Prof J V Bhat Memorial lecture on the topic “The Growing

Burden of Antibiotic Resistance – Can Probiotics be one of the Solution to combat the

crisis?”. Dr KSMS Raghava Rao, Director, CSIR-CFTRI delivered ‘World Food Day’

Lecture. Dr. G K Sharma, Additional Director, DFRL, Mysuru launched the unveiled the

Selfie point of 27th ICFOST 2019. Dr Anil Dutt Semwal - Director DFRL delivered the

presidential address and congratulated AFSTI for taking ICFOST to Northeast. In view of

harmonization of Chapters and HQ, this year the AFSTI memorial lectures were conducted at

different Chapters followed by CEC meeting and the opportunity was used to conduct curtain

raisers of ICFOST-2019.

Dr H A B Parpia and Sri G C P Rangarao Memorial Lecture were organized at Thrissur

Chapter. Dr K P Sudheer, Professor and Head, Department of Agricultural Engineering,

College of Horticulture, Vellanikkara, Thrissur delivered Dr H A B Parpia Memorial lecture.

Dr C N Ravishankar, Director, CIFT, Cochin delivered Sri G C P Rangarao Memorial

Lecture. Followed by lectures, launch of AFSTI-Corporate Membership Offer,

Curtain Raiser For 27th ICFoST and CEC meetings were held. During the occasion, decided to

launch Corporate Membership drive because CEC noted that there was need to enhance

number of corporate members with AFSTI to realistically connect and address the food

industry issues.

Dr B L Amla lecture was organized at NiFTEM Chapter-Kundali on 4th November 2019. Dr

Ashok Anand, Managing Director of Gopi Dehydrates Pvt. Ltd, HSIIDC, Kundli delivered the

lecture followed by final Curtain Raiser Program of 27th ICFOST was conducted.

8. As social responsibility of the Association, Flood Relief fund was given to the 4 states through

AFSTI- chapters during the current year. Further, it was decided to formulate a guideline for

such activities in future.

CEC appreciated the initiative of Mumbai Chapter to support more than 100 families by

taking sponsorship from industries/donors in association with other NGOs.

9. 27th ICFOST 2019:

Venue: During the year, we received proposal from 3 Chapters for organizing current year’s

ICFOST. It was noted all the 3 Chapters have infrastructure facilities. As the Chennai Chapter

and Thrissur Chapter are initiating many activities, it was decided to have the ICFoST -2019

at Tezpur Chapter in order to promote the activities of AFST (I) in North East region. This is a

wonderful decision of CEC have ICFOST at Tezpur and is the First ICFOST in Northeastern

Region of India since the AFST (I) was established and an historic step.

Theme: The focal theme “Raising Agro-Processing & Integrating Novel technologies for

Boosting Organic Wellness” – [RRAAIINNBBOOWW]]” has been meticulously chosen by the CEC

after several discussions with the intent of integrating the organic capital of our country –

North East India into the central chain of food safety and processing, thereby to agro-

processing and contemporary technologies in enhancing the organic wellness, an aromatic

blend of our nations’ progress towards an organically rich, safe and healthy India.

Logo: To choose the logo, a competition was conducted. Several (n = 98) entries were

received. Logos were evaluated by members of website committee and available CEC

members. Top 10 were shortlisted and re-looked with the description submitted. Top 4 logos

were selected and submitted for copyright purpose. Based on the report from experts, avoiding

copyright issues and resemblance with other logos, the best logo was selected and the awardee

is honored with certificate and cash prize during the ICFOST-2019.

Special features of 27th ICFOST 2019:

ICFOST Website: A permanent website for ICFOSTs has been developed and the same will

be available for every ICFOST and can be customized based on the features of future

ICFOSTs. This facilitates the participants to follow a standard format in AFST (I)

conferences.

Mobile App is adopted with additional features and with validity of conference data available

for one year for the participants of 27th ICFOST.

E-Souvenir: The drive to reduce paper usage continued with QR code based slim E-souvenir

for all the posters and oral abstracts.

VI. Publications

Journal of Food Science & Technology: Now the Journal is in its 56th volume and 10th year of

it’s going online. We are placing on record the sincere efforts of the Editor-in-Chief, Dr N

Bhaskar with his Editorial Team. We thank all the authors, reviewers and all those who have

contributed to this journal, for their earnest commitment.

Indian Food Industry Mag: This journal is entering into its 38th year of Publication. We thank

the efforts of Dr P S Negi, Chief Editor, his Editorial Team and the CEC to bring out the backlog

issues swiftly. Now the journal is registered with Registrar of Newspapers of India (RNI) and

began its first issue.

Journal of Grain Science & Technology (JGST): A special committee was formed to prepare

SOP for the journal like how many issues to be brought out during the year, nominating editorial

board. The following committee was constituted for the purpose:

VII. New Chapters:

Approval has been given to Indore and Rourkela for opening new chapters. Further, requests are

received from Aurangabad and Bapatla during the year for starting Chapters. Efforts are being

made to reactivate inactive chapters also.

Chapters are requested to strictly follow the guidelines below while conducting the conferences at

Chapter level under the banner of AFST(I)

Guidelines for chapters:

When the chapter decides to arrange any conference/workshop under the banner of AFST(I), the

information should reach the HQ as soon as the plan for activity is finalized.

.

• 10% of the excess of income over expenditure earned during conference to be given to HQ

• Representation of HQ members be made compulsory in the respective committees of the

conference

• Audited statement of accounts, recommendations/proceedings, utilization certificate and other

documents required by the funding agencies should be sent by the chapter concerned in

stipulated time with a copy to head quarter, so that recommendations can be sent to the

respective funding agencies and ministries.

• TDS will have to be deducted from all major payments.

• The seed money, if necessary can be taken from the headquarters (refundable) for organizing

the conference

VIII. Chapter Activities

1. Allahabad chapter: The Allahabad Chapter and Centre of Food Technology jointly celebrated

National Nutrition Month September 1-30, 2019 with the focal theme Sahi Poshan Desh

Roshan” The details of the events are mentioned below:

A collage competition was organized at the centre on September 20, 2019 based on the theme.

Dietary Diversity” the key strategies in addressing the global health concern of hidden hunger and

attaining optimal nutrition for all. Six teams (each comprising of three members) participated and

yielded their sincere efforts with utmost creativity. M. Sc Nutritional sciences IIIrd sem students

got the first and second prize whereas the third position went to M. Sc Food Technology IIIrd sem

students.

A recipe competition was organized September 23, 2019 with the aim of developing innovative

and delicious recipes eliciting the nutritional components. Ten teams participated. Students of

M.Sc FT IIIrd and B. Voc Vth sem bagged all the first, second and third prize. Prof Neelam Yadav,

President, AFSTI, Allahabad Chapter, Dr. Urvashi Sharma LEC member, Allahabad Chapter and

other members of faculty and staff were present to encourage the creative efforts of the

participants.

Allahabad chapter and Centre of Food Technology organized an awareness campaign in

association with The Robin Hood Army on 16th October 2019 to mark the celebration of World

Food Day. The theme of the event was “Tackling Global Hunger”. Mr. Nitesh Kesarwani of the

Robin Hood Army, Allahabad sensitized the students and faculty of the Institute about their

organization and their initiatives. He also motivated and encouraged the audience to be a part of

such activities and help them by spreading the awareness further. Prof. Neelam Yadav, President,

AFSTI, Allahabad Chapter addressed the audience on the current scenario of malnutrition and

hunger in the country with respect to Global Hunger Index given by WHO. She also emphasized

on food loss and food waste and congratulated the Robin Hood Army for taking such initiatives in

combating food waste as well as fighting against hunger.

An awareness campaign was arranged by the chapter followed by distribution of 800 food packets

to children in slums near Yamuna bank road, Parade ground and Keedganj area of Allahabad city

by students of Centre of Food Technology and volunteers of Robin Hood Army.

A Food Quiz was also organized by the chapter on 18th October 2019 wherein five teams

participated which were selected on the basis of a written test. The quiz was conducted by Ms.

Mazia Ahmed, Ms. Unaiza Iqbal and Mr. Brajesh Rai of Centre of Food Technology.

2. Bangalore chapter: Bangalore Chapter celebrated World Food day in coordination with

Dayananda Sagar University on 22nd October 2019. Around 500 participants from Industry,

Dayanand Sagar University and the chapter, participated. EC members Participated on a session

arranged on Block Chain by BCIC on 24th October 2019. The chapter participated in “Packaging

360 Conclave” that happened on 26th July 2019 Taj Yeshwanthpur, Mr. Sachin Achintalwar,

President Bangalore Chapter was one of the speakers on Packaging Regulations. The Chapter

actively participated in NetProFan of FSSAI Initiative on uplifting course curriculum of higher

education institutions at Mount Carmel college on 18th October 2019.

EC members of the chapter participated in Fortification event arranged by FSSAI & Karnataka

FDA on 18th October, the event was arranged to promote Fortification and understand concerns

from Industry regarding fortification. Chapter President - Mr. Sachin Achintalwar delivered talks

at St. Joesph college and Mount Carmel College as part of Nutrition week celebration. Chapter

members visited M/s. Buhler’s Pilot cum Demo Scale Factory in outskirts of Bangalore as part of

Knowledge sharing initiative, along with Jain University MSc. Food Science students.

Dr. Suresha was the Key speaker at “Whatsapp Foods event” arranged by Bangalore chamber of

industry & Commerce. Bangalore Chapter actively participated in Millet Expo & Swasth Bharat

Yatra arranged by FSSAI. Mr. Chetan L Hanchate & Dr. Suresha were speakers at Garden City

University, Mr. Chetan L. Hanchate was one of the speaker for the conference, for the Topic titled

as "Rebirth of Millets – Opened Traditional - Continental - Fusion Foods Door's" at Garden City

University, his presentation was very greatly accepted as it was very informative and enthusiastic

on factual lines of Life & Industry. Mr. Chetan L. Hanchate have offered Faculty Up gradation

Exercise Program during weeklong program for faculties from Bio-Chemical Engg. BioTech

Engg. Micro-Engg and Fermentation Section of Dayananda Sagar College of Bangalore. Mr.

Chetan L. Hanchate also made presentation 20th Sept. 2019 to EDII - Accenture Micro Skill

Entrepreneurship Development Program (MSDP) is entering its fifth glorious year of creating

successful entrepreneurs in rural areas across the country.

3. Bhopal chapter: The General Body Meeting of AFST(I)-Bhopal Chapter was held on 11th April

2019 at ICAR-CIAE, Bhopal.

World food day was organized by the chapter on 16.10.2019. Dr. Debabandya Mohapatra

welcomed the participants. Dr. Jyoti Khare, MBBS, MD was chief guest of the programme. She

narrated the importance of healthy diet and emphasized to refrain from fast food. Dr. Punit

Chandra, Secretary of the Chapter presented the framework and various activities of AFST(I). On

this occasion, Dr. S.S. Deshpande Principal Scientist made a very informative presentation on

Food Nutrition and emphasized to include millets in our daily diet. She narrated the importance of

millets and their health benefits. Three life members were enrolled during the year.

4. Chennai Chapter: The Chennai chapter is publishing monthly newsletter since April 2018 and

conducting monthly meetings with local executive committee members engaging academicians,

industry professionals and student communities. Newsletter has regular sections Tech 250,

regulatory updates, news articles, snippets and event updates. The cover page was the winning

design from the student competition conducted in the year 2019. Cover page designed by Mr R

Mohammed Harish, Student, B.Tech. Food Processing and Engineering from Karunya University,

Coimbatore was selected in the Newsletter cover page design competition conducted in the

December month. Winner was selected and announced on January 2019 through the votes

received from the local executive committee members. About five entries have been received and

the current newsletter (since February 2019) adorns the design from the winning entry.

Annual General Body Meeting of the chapter was conducted on 3rd May 2019 and regular

monthly meetings were conducted to follow-up on actions of sub committees.

Key hightlights: Election of new office bearers, lecture by Dr Usha Antony and Finacials. AFSTI

Chennai chapter supported AMET University to conduct two day conference on Whole Grain

Technology on August 21-22, 2019.

Industry Academia Conclave was conducted in Anna University on 12th September 2019 to invite

them to take corporate membership with AFSTI and actively participate and engage with students.

Key Highlights of this meeting: ICfoST Mobile app launch, Webpage launch and GST guideline

booklet for all chapters launched. Chennai chapter was recognized for being first chapter to have

GST compliance by HQ Team.

The world food day was conducted on 16th October 2019 at the SRM Institute of Science and

Technology (Bioengineering Block) organized by the Department of Food Process.

5. Cochin Chapter: Cochin Chapter conducted a FOSTAC Food safety Supervisor Training on

Advanced manufacturing (Level 2) at Hotel SPAN INTERNATIONAL, Kochi on 30th March

2019 .Trainer of the programme Dr. B Jacob (Vice President- AFSTI Cochin Chapter) presented

an informative session on food safety imperatives. Dr. D.D. Nambudiri (President- AFSTI Cochin

Chapter) conducted the assessment of the training programme.16 participants attended the

training programme which consisted of managerial and technical personnel from food

Industry,HACCP Trainees from FQ Lab & Research Centre (P) Ltd, Cochin besides post

graduateand research students from Kerala University of Fisheries & Ocean studies ,Kochi . The

programme was rated highly beneficial by the participants and we received requests for

repeatprograms. As the second initiative of the year, the chapter conducted a FoSTaC Training

programme on food manufacturing (Level 2) on 7-June-2019 at FQ Lab Conference hall

exclusively for the students undergoing HACCP Training programme in the Food Safety

Acadmey (FQ Lab & Research Centre (P) Ltd). Trainer Mrs. Rekha Menon and Assessor Sri O

Raghunath rendered a very valuable presentation regarding food safety which the students found

very informative and beneficial for their future. Subsequently, on getting more request for repeat

program, we organized another FoSTaC Food Safety Supervisor training programme on

Advanced Manufacturing on 15th June 2019 at Hotel Span International, Kochi. Along with

different technical and management officials who joined the training programme from different

food industries, Graduate and Post Graduate students from St Teresa’s College also had active

participation in the FoSTaC program.

Dr Baby Jacob, (FSSAI FoSTaC approved trainer) imparted the training. The interactive session

which followed the training was immensely useful to the participants as they could get

clarification on several points. Besides assessing the training programme, Dr D D Nambudiri –

(FSSAI FoSTaC Approved Assessor) had effective interaction with the participants in bringing

into light, the practical application and challenges in the implementation of Food safety.

The chapter joined KUFOS (Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Studies) and All Kerala

Caterers Association in celebrating ‘World Food Day’ by organizing a workshop on “Prospects

& challenges of Catering Industry in Kerala”on 15th Oct. 2019 . The function was inaugurated by

Dr A Ramachandran – Vice chancellor, KUFOS. Eminent personalities like Dr B Jacob, Dr DD

Nambudiri, Dr K Gopakumar, Mr V K Varghese and Dr P T Mathew having commendable

experience in food industry shared the dais . They highlighted the importance of eradicating

hunger from the world and also brought home to the participants the great responsibility of each

and every one of us to follow healthy diets for a Zero Hunger World since our actions would

safeguard our future. The World Food Day workshop was being highly beneficial and

participatory with interactive sessions, demonstrations and lectures by Mr Jacob Thomas (Asst

Commissioner –Food Safety, Ernakulam), Mr Biju P Abraham MIE,( General Manager, District

Industries Centre), Dr Bhadran A ( Former Government Analyst- Regional Laboratory,

Kakkanad) and Dr P E Doles ( FSSAI, Kochi).

Simultaneously FQ Lab & Research Centre joined the World Food Day by organizing a Food

Safety Quiz Programme.The Quiz program which was conducted by Ms RekhaMenon and Sri O

Raghunath- Members, AFSTI Cochin Chapter.14 Students from 5 different colleges participated

in the Quiz Programme and winners were given certificates, cash awards and were felicitated.

The chapter conducted another FoSTaC training programme for the manufacturing industry on

23rd Oct. 2019 at Kochi. 17 participants from the food industry, mainly Hotel industry participated

in the training programme. Trainer Sri O Raghunath and Assessor Mrs.Rekha Menon contributed

immensely in making the event a great success. We have received requests for repeated training

programmes in Kochi, Kollam and various parts of Kerala for catering segment.

6. Dapoli Chapter: Dapoli chapter conducted a meeting on 21.09.2019 at Killa Roha, Raigad where

it was decided to organize Inaugural Workshop at Dapoli in the month of December 2019.

7. Delhi Chapter: World Food Day was celebrated by the Chapter on 16th October, 2019 in

association with Ministry of Food processing Industries-Govt. of India, PHD Chamber of

Commerce & Industry and Manav Rachna University (Faridabad) at the premises of Manav

Rachna University. Shri V.N. Gaur (IAS), previous Chief Executive Officer, FSSAI was the Chief

Guest. About 250 people including students, faculty members and public, participated.

Competitions were held for students and cash awards to the winning students were given away.

On behalf of the Chapter, the President participated in the World Food Day organized at Amity

University on 21.10.2019.

Annual General Body meeting of the chapter was held on 30th August, 2019. Election of new

team of office bearers have been conducted in this AGM. Copy of Minutes of Meeting of AGM

and details of office bearers have been submitted to the Headquarters. The first meeting of the

newly elected Executive Committee was held on 13.9.2019.

8. Haldia Chapter: AFST(I) Haldia Chapter in collaboration with Agilent Technologies, India and

Department of Food Technology, Haldia Institute of Technology had organised a one day

Seminar on “Advanced Separation and Detection by Chromatographic and Spectroscopic

Technique” on January 25,2019. The event witnessed participation of industry professionals from

different food and allied sector companies, in and around the Haldia Industrial belt, namely Adani

Wilmar, Emami Agrotech, Indorama Agrochemicals, Ruchi Soya, IOCL, Haldia Petrochemicals,

to mention a few.

Haldia Chapter in collaboration with the Department of Food Technology, Haldia Institute of

Technology had organised an Invited Lecture on the topic of “Recent Trends in Fats and Oil

Processing” delivered by Dr. Sibabrata Mukherjee, Industry Technology Specialist,

Novozymes South East Asia Pvt. Ltd. on April 23, 2019. The lecture focused on the current

Haldia Chapter in collaboration with the Department of Food Technology, Haldia Institute of

Technology had organized an Invited Lecture on the topic entitled “Transition of Food

Technologists from Academia to Industry: Requisites, Roles and Challenges” delivered by Mr.

Ankur Chaturvedi, Senior General Manager- Operation and Safety, Emami Limited on April 27,

2019.The lecture highlighted the inevitable significance of inculcating and cultivating managerial

and leadership skills including apposite organisational demeanour within every individual to

augment their scope of employability and retainability in an industrial environment.

Haldia Chapter celebrated World Food Day 2019 in collaboration with CII-SKA, FACE, on

16th October, at CII - Suresh Neotia Centre of Excellence for Leadership, Kolkata, in line with

FAO & FSSAI’s theme of “Healthy Diets for a Zero Hunger World”. Aligned to this theme, the

premise of this event was entitled “Strengthen Nationwide Actions on Eat Right for a Healthy

India”. The day commenced with the welcome address by Dr. Indrani Ghose, Strategic Advisor,

CII-FACE, followed by an edifying presentation on ‘AFST (I) Initiatives – Harmonization of

Food Communities’ by Shri Gourab Chatterjee, President, AFST(I) Haldia Chapter. He also

promoted ICFoST 2019 and its theme and encouraged everyone to show active participation in it.

CII, Kolkata has acknowledged AFST(I) Haldia Chapter for conducting various activities from

East. Mr. Subrata Saha, Business Head, Cotecna Inspection India Pvt. Ltd. delivered an

enlightening lecture on ‘Say “NO” to Plastics’. This was followed by a Technical Quiz on Food

Science and Technology conducted by Quizmaster, Mr. Subrata Saha with Food Technology

students of Haldia Institute of Technology and AFST(I) Haldia Chapter. The second half of the

day comprised of a plenary session with enlightening talks on ‘Eat Right Movement in India’ by

Mr. Ankur Chaturvedi, Senior General Manager, International Operations, Emami Ltd.,

'Achieving Zero Hunger is not only about addressing hunger’ by Mr. A.K. Sen, International

Consultant - Food Safety, FAO RAP (Regional Office for Asia and Pacific), ‘Self Compliance –

The Essence of Law’ by Shri D. P. Guha, Consultant & Former Director, FSSAI – ER followed

by a Special Address by Ms. Sunita Mitra Deb, Jt. Food Commissioner, Dept. of Health & Family

Welfare, Govt. of West Bengal. Thereafter, all the participants and audience took an earnest

pledge lined with the day’s theme. In the last leg, the event was graced by informative and

captivating one-acts plays on the topics of ‘Food Safety and Hygiene’ by Mid Day Meal Makers

of different schools from West Bengal, ‘Elimination of Trans – Fat: The Silent Killer from every

day’s diet’ by students of Food Technology, Guru Nanak Institute of Technology, Kolkata, and

‘Eat Fortified Foods with added Vitamins and Minerals for your Daily needs” by Food

Technology students of Haldia Institute of Technology and AFST(I) Haldia Chapter. The event

culminated with a Culinary Contest.

9. Hyderabad chapter: The chapter organized the World Food Day, 2019 in association with OTAI

(SZ) at CSIR-IICT, Hyderabad on 16th October, 2019. The function was presided over by Dr.

R.B.N. Prasad, former Chief Scientist & Head, Centre for Lipid Science, CSIR-IICT, Hyderabad.

Dr. Mrs. T. Jyothirmayi, President AFSTI Hyderabad Chapter and Dr. P.P. Chakrabarthi,

President OTAI (SZ) presented the respective chapter activities. During the inaugural session,

Shri PV Surya Prakasa Rao Memorial Lecture was delivered by Dr. B. Sesikeran, Former

Director, ICMR, NIN, Hyderabad. The highlight of the function was felicitation to Industry doyen

Shri M. Kishan Rao, Chairman and Managing Director, Bambino Agro Industries Ltd.,

Hyderabad for his untiring efforts to uplift the food industry in Hyderabad. Dr. B.V.S.K. Rao

former President OTAI (SZ) and Shri B. Srinivasan, Freelance consultant and Food Technologist,

Hyderabad were honored by AFSTI, Hyderabad Chapter for their life time achievements in the

area of food science and technology.

An essay writing competition was organized for the student community from Food Science and

Technology streams on the World Food Day Theme “Actions Are Our Future: Healthy Diets For

A #Zero Hunger World”. The winners were provided an opportunity to present their essays to the

audience and they were given awards and cash prizes from donation provided by Dr. D. G. Rao

former Head, CSIR CFTRI Resource Centre, Hyderabad. Out station candidates were provided

with second class rail /bus fares. Dr. P.G. Prabhakara Rao, Hon Secretary, presented the vote of

thanks. Lunch was provided for the delegates and student participants. High-Tea, and

Pomogranate arils (dissert for lunch) was sponsored by M/s Sam Agri Tech Foods, Hyderabad.

Tech Osmania, a Technical Seminar organised by Osmania University College of Technology

was sponsored by AFSTI, Hyderabad Chapter on 23rd February, 2019. Rs. 10,000/- was donated

for giving prizes in various events organised such as cookery contest, poster competition etc.

Dr. Prasad Jaladi, Innovation Consultant, USA delivered a lecture at CSIR-CFTRI Resource

centre, Hyderabad on “360°of Susutainable Innovation” on 08-01-2019 as part of the monthly

lecture series.

Dr. P.G. Prabhakara Rao, Hon. Secretary, AFSTI, Hyderabad chapter delivered a lecture on

“Studies on fish roe protein and value added products-highlights of work carried out at CFTRI

Resource Centre, Hyderabad” at Centre for Lipid Research, CSIR-IICT, Hyderabad as part of the

monthly lecture series of Hyderabad chapter during August, 2019.

In total 5 EC meetings were conducted to discuss various issues of Hyderabad Chapter. A

condolence meeting was organized in honour of the sad demise of Shri S.R. Maniyar, EC

member, Hyderabad Chapter, General Manager, Singhania Foods, Hyderabad on 28-03-2019.

10. Imphal Chapter: The Manipur Chapter is located on the food Processing Industries Training

Centre Porompat, Imphal East DIC, Training Center, which has now become Popular through

various activities at Manipur like skill development programme, Invited Lecturers, programs for

processing of wild edible fruits and vegetable found in the state of Manipur. The Manipur

Chapter is a unique symbol of different communities. The chapter has facilities like Mobile Skill

Training Service and Consulting for New setup Food Industries Layout Plan and the major

activities include establishing infrastructure for R&D support, publishing bi-annual journal

‘Journal of North East Foods’, arranging seminars and lectures and arranging training and

feedback for the entrepreneurs.

11. Jabalpur chapter: The chapter organized World Food Day, with a lecture by Dr. Ashish Kumar

Singh, Principal Scientist, Dairy Technology Division, NDRI, Karnal. The program was chaired

by Dr. P K Mishra, Director Research Services, JNKVV, Jabalpur. Dr. Ashish Kumar Singh

highlighted the challenges before agriculture scientists to meet the demand of food for the

growing population said the natural resources like soil, land, water are limited. A large number of

people could hardly manage their one time meal on the other hand people getting sufficient food

are facing nutrition deficiency. Dr Singh says that in coming years the technology in agriculture

would improve the world and would double our production targets. He said in the country poverty

has decreased but still among hundred countries if rated for poverty our country is at high number.

He said increasing the diseases of micro-bacteria, obesity and also appraised about nutrition in

mother milk and goat milk in detail and said mother feeding can help the dealing the

malnourishment.

Shri Om Thakur, the Special Guest, Member, Board of Management, JNKVV said that the India

is amongst top producer of fruits and vegetables and milk but due to inadequate storage and

Dr. LPS Rajput, Director Biotechnology centre and Head, Department of Food Science and

Technology, Welcomed the guest and other dignitaries of university and in his welcome remark

he appealed to citizens to take nutritious foods with the theme of World Food Day 2019.

On the occasion Dean Faculty of Agriculture, Dr. D.K Khare, Director Instruction, Dr. SD

Upadhyay, Director Farms, Dr DK Pahalwan, Dean College of Agriculture, Dr. R M Sahu, Dean

College of Agricutural Engineering Dr RK Nema and scientist were present. The programme was

anchored by Dr S S Shukla, Secretary AFST(I) and vote of thanks was given by Dr RS Thakur,

Treasurer AFSTi Jabalpur Chapter.

12. Kanpur chapter: The chapter conducted World Food Day on 16th October, 2019 on “Healthy

Diets for Zero Hunger World” in Radhakrishnan Auditorium by Department of Food

Technology, Harcourt Butler Technical University, Kanpur. Prof. N. B. Singh, Hon’ble Vice

Chancellor was the chief guest on occasion along with Guest of Honour and eminent speaker of

first technical session, Dr. Prasoon Verma, Senior Scientist, Indian Institute of Pulses Research,

Kanpur; Prof. Karunakar Singh, Pro-Vice Chancellor, Prof. Raghuraj Singh, Coordinator, TEQIP-

III, Dr. Deepak Srivastava, Dean, School of Chemical Technology, Dr. Alak Kumar Singh, Head

of Department, Department of Food Technology and Secretary, AFSTI Kanpur Chapter; Mr.

Brajesh Singh, Associate Professor, Department of Biochemical Engineering and President,

AFSTI Kanpur Chapter and Mr. Lal Mani Verma, Associate Professor and Treasurer of AFSTI

Kanpur Chapter were present as distinguished guest during the inauguration ceremony. The

symposium had different technical sessions with diverse themes of World Food Day Symposium

and lectures were delivered by eminent speakers to provide current scenario of nutritional security

in food. The programme was attended by 100 participants from different branches of university.

The web site of Kanpur chapter was launched in the month of November 2019. The URL is

www.afstikanpur.org. The important information of Kanpur chapter is given on this site. It is

updated time to time.

The news letter of AFSTI Kanpur chapter was released for this year in the first week of November

2019. It is also uploaded on web site of AFSTI Kanpur chapter.

13. Kollam chapter: The chapter is leading the NetProFaN (Network of Professionals of Food &

Nutrition -an FSSAI Initiative). Dr.K.K.Abdul Rasheed , President of the Chapter is the

Coordinator of NetProFaN, Thrissur Chapter. Many programs related to SNF@ Schools is

coordinated by AFSTI members for NetProFaN. Besides being a part of NetProFaN, also

conducted the following programs.

Dr. K.K.Abdul Rasheed & Dr Rijo Jacob Thomas handled classes on Application of Ultra low

temperatures in food processing, with a specific stress on cryo-grinding of spices and herbs, on

10th January, 2019. This session was for the students of BTech Food Technology and Mechanical

Engineering of TKM Institute of Technology.

On 17th January, 2019,a similar lecture series was given to students of BTech Mechanical

Engineering and Production engineering of TKM College of Engineering.

AFSTI president and a member participated actively in Celebration of World Food Day on 16th

October, 2019 organized by Indian Medical Association, Trivandrum. Outcome of the discussion

is the design of an health plate for the lunch in the campuses.

14. Kundli Chapter: The chapter showed very pro-activeness in this year and organised many

events. This year chapter added almost 40 life members and organized different events for the

promotion of food processing and to support the students, academia and industry. The event

reports are summarised in the following sections:

FOODTRONICS- A Paperless Quiz: The Chapter Organized FOODTRONICS in collaboration

with NIFTEM Innovation Lab (NIL). A Paperless Quiz on 6th Sept 2019 was conducted.The

session was inaugurated by Dr.ChindiVasudevappa, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, NIFTEM. Dr. P.

K. Nema, President, AFTSI, Er. Vijay S Sharanagat, Secretary, AFST(I) NIFTEM chapter and Dr.

Vinkel Kumar Arora (Faculty in charge, NIL) were present to motivate the participants.

The objective of the online mobile based quiz is to use the technological platform for rapid

assessment and promote paperless examination. Total 140 registrations were received from

B.Tech, M.Tech, M. B.A. and PhD students. Participants were allowed to use smartphones for

quiz. Quiz competition was consisting of prelims, rapid fire and bounce-pounce. The Chapter

awarded first prize of INR 1000/- to Mr Shekhar Suman and Mr. Subham Goel, Second prize INR

750/- to MrRishabh Rathore and Mr. Thirunavukkarrasu A. L. and third prize of INR 500/- to Mr.

Amanjeet Singh and Mr. HarshadJaju.All the participants were given certificates.

4th meeting of the Central Executive Committee: The chapter hosted the 4th meeting of the

Central Executive Committee (CEC) at NIFTEM on 3rd Nov 2019. The meeting was attended

by President, President designate, Secretary and Members of CEC, AFST (I) along with EiC of

AFSTI Journals and representatives of ICFOST 2019 from Tejpur University. Dr. V.Baskaran,

President AFST(I) welcomed all the members and briefed about the recent activities held at

Thrissur, Chennai and DFRL-Mysuru along with the discussions on other agenda pointswith the

members. At the end the President thanked Dr. P K Nema, President; Er Vijay Secretary and Mr

Ayon, Treasurer of the Chapter for necessary arrangements made for the CEC meeting.

Dr. B. L.Amla Memorial Lecture: The chapter hosted the Dr. B. L.AmlaMemorial lecture on

4th Nov 2019 at National Institute of Food Technology Entrepreneurship and Management

(NIFTEM). Dr. B. L.Amla Memorial Lecture was delivered by Mr Ashok Anand (Managing

Director, Gopi Dehydrate). Mr Ashok Anand spoke about Food Entrepreneurship Development

from Industry Perspective. Participants were invited from various academia and industry. The

event was attended by representative of Mondelez Pvt. Ltd and 85 food professionals from

various industries and academia. Mr Ashok Anand was felicitated by Dr. B. L. Amla Award and

presented with certificate and memento. The Mondelez Pvt. Ltd representatives were presented

with the AFST(I) memento and invitation to join ICFoST was extended to them. The event was

continued with curtain raiser of upcoming prestigious conference of AFST(I) 27th ICFoST:

Raising Agro-processing and Integrating Novel technologies for Boosting Organic Wellness

(RAINBOW) to be held on 18-20th Dec 2019, Tezpur University,Tezpur, Assam. Dr.Prabhat K

Nema, President AFST(I) NIFTEM chapter proposed the vote of thanks.

The chapter organized a special lecture on “Challenges in Single Cell Microbiology “by Prof.

Kostas Koutsoumanis from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece on 13th Nov 2019. The

programme was coordinated by AFSTI senior member Dr.Vijendra Mishra, Dean PG and HoD

BAS, NIFTEM.

15. Longowal Chapter: The Chapter in association with the Department of Food Engineering and

Technology, SLIET Longowal celebrated the “World Food Day” on October 16, 2019 in the

Seminar Hall of Food and Chemical Block. Various competitions like poster making, quiz,

debate, food craft and product development were organized under different themes to mark this

occasion since the previous week. More than 300 students from diploma, under-graduate and

Shailendra Jain, Director SLIET. Speaking on the occasion, Director SLIET lauded the role of

AFST (I) and Department of Food Engineering and Technology for developing the spirit of

competitiveness among the budding food technocrats and to bring awareness among them towards

villages. Prof D.C Saxena, Dean (SW) and President of AFST (I), Longowal chapter shared his

views about the theme of the world food day. Prof Sukhcharn Singh, Secretary of Longowal

chapter presented the elaborative report on the various activities of the chapter. At the end of the

event, Dr Navdeep Jindal Treasurer, of AFST(I), Longowal chapter congratulated all the winners

and presented the vote of thanks to all guest.

Dr. Alok Srivastava, Chief Scientist, CSIR-CFTRI, Mysuru delivered an Invited Lecture in

SLIET, Longowal on 01st November 2019 in the Department of Food Engineering and

Technology. As an official Auditor for NABL, he explained each and every detail of Lab

Accreditation process to the faculty and staff of the Institute which would help us in making

strategy for the preparation of our Lab Accreditation. Prof.D.C. Saxena, President of the AFSTI

Longowal Chapter introduced him to the august gathering. Prof.Shailendra Jain, the Director,

SLIET presented a memento on behalf of AFSTI, Longowal Chapter. Dr Navdeep Jindal,

Treasurer, AFST (I), Longowal Chapter proposed vote of thanks to all the dignitaries and

participants.

16. Mumbai chapter: The chapter supported Processing and Handholding Workshop for Food Start-

ups at Mumbai 19th Jan 2019. The chapter received a special recognition from FSSAI for

contribution in Swastha Bharat Yatra and Eight Right Movement at an event in New Delhi on 29th

Jan 2019. Mumbai Chapter organized 2 days Technical Seminar on Demystifying Regulatory

requirements in association with FSSAI and State FDA on 19th& 20th March, considering the

industry need on understanding the changes, up-dation, licensing procedures, etc, The event was

inaugurated by Dr. Pallavi Darade, FDA Commissioner, Maharashtra along with Mr. P

Muthumaran- Regional Director. The chapter greeted Dr Yogesh Kamat IRS the new Director

FSSAI western Region Mumbai.

On 18th May, 2019 the Chapter conducted Season 3 of the PowerTalk. The Chief Guest for the

event was Dr. Dadasaheb Wadikar, Scientist, DRDO-Defence Food Research Laboratory and Hon

Secretary of AFST(I) Headquarters. The event was sponsored by UBM, and Goldwinner and was

supported by FOSTAC an initiative of FSSAI. The videos are uploaded on AFSTI Mumbai

website, YouTube and UBM website. The topics revolved around Food Sc &Nutrition, Food

Entrepreneurship, Food Regulations, Innovation and Quality. This season witnessed participation

from 36 speakers from various food related fields. AFST Mumbai’s newsletter May’2019 was

also released on the occasion.

GST meeting of all Maharashtra chapters: Mumbai chapter organized a meeting with

Chartered Accountant Mr. Vijay to get the clarity on the GST applicability for various chapters.

The objective was to understand the requirement for GST registration, the Process for GST

registration, the requirement for conformance post GST registration and the GST Filling & Return

Process/SOP to be followed by the chapters.

World Food Safety Day: Mumbai Chapter along with FSSAI Western Region and FDA

Maharashtra, organized World Food Safety Day on 7th June 2019 at Institute of Chemical

Technology, Matunga. Guest of Honor for the event was Dr. Yogesh Kamat, IRS-Director

FSSAI-Western Region, and Chief Guest was Prof. G. D. Yadav, Vice Chancellor, Institute of

Chemical Technology Mumbai. Prof. Yadav in his keynote address spoke on Food Stainability

Jayanti Kathale, Owner of Purnabramha Chain of Restaurants wherein she briefed on Hygiene &

Food Safety in restaurants, and Ms. Chinmayee Deulgaonkar, MD FoodChain ID, spoke on Food

Safety beyond Hygiene.

A Meeting of Maharashtra chapter of NetProFaN was held on June 21st 2019 with CEO of

FSSAI. NetProFaN is an FSSAI initiative to bring 6 associations under a single platform (AFST,

IDA, NSI, IMA, Chef Association and AOAC). Mr. Nilesh Lele and Ms. Naaznin Husein,

Convenor and Co-Convener of NetProFAN Maharashtra chapter gave an overview of activities

carried out by various associations in the past one year and the planned a series of activities under

NetProFaN in for the upcoming year.

AFSTI Mumbai Chapter, in collaboration with the Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB), Malaysia

and AAK Kamani had conducted a Technical Seminar for SME Snack and Bakery Industries. The

seminar was held on 4 July 2019 at AAK Kamani to create awareness among the people about

Trans fatty acids & their intake in day to day life.

AFST Mumbai Deliberation meet on FSSAI draft notification related to Food Safety and

Standards (Labelling and Display) Regulations, on 30th July 2019. The “EAT RIGHT MELA”

2019 was organized on 29th August 2019 at G. N. Khalsa CollegeMatunga ,Mumbai by

Department of M.Sc. Nutraceuticals, NetProFan, AFST (I) Mumbai Chapter with the support of

World Bank FSSAI and FDA Maharashtra. Shri Pawan Kumar Agarwal (CEO FSSAINew Delhi)

was the chief guest for the event. The book “Mindful Eating” was inaugurated in thepresence of

famous Chef Shri Harpal Singh Sokhi and Mr. Varun Inamdar.

Mumbai Chapter celebrated the Poshan Maah with a great show, wherein eight colleges

participated to spread the awareness through a series of activities, such as quizzes, debates, poster

competitions, skits, prabhatpheri, yoga and motivational talks.

World Food Day: The Chapter in association with Marico Pvt Ltd. & K R Naram Parivar Trust

organised ‘World Food Day’ on 16th October at Institute of Chemical Technology. Dr. D V Rege

memorial lecture was delivered by Mr. Srini Naladala, , Director of Innovation, Technology and

Quality, General Mills, AMEA. He spoke on future of foods, whereas Mr. Subramani A,

Corporate Manager QA at Hindustan Coca-Cola, Beverages Private Limited, enlightened the

participants by sharing industrial best practices on water management under Dr K U Naram

Memorial Lecture. Mr. Lazaro Sandoval, Senior attaché for agricultural Attaché US DA , Prof G

D Yadav, Vice Chancellor, ICT, was Guest of Honour in this event. In this Event We had also

celebrated Dr. K U Naram Award through the Trophy, Cash Price, Certificate to toppers of Food

& Dietetics colleges around the Mumbai. Mr. V.B. Chitale Award and Mr. B. A. Parvatikar

Award were also given to topper of the second & third year of Institute of Chemical Technology.

Fi India: The chapter organised a technical session on Product Development: Science And

Technology, as part of the Fi convention on 22nd October 2019, at Bombay Exhibition Center,

Goregaon Mumbai.

FSSC 22000 Global Focus Day: FSSC 22000 Focus Day was organized by the chapter on 11th

November 2019 at Taj Santacruz, Mumbai in Partnership with FSSC 22000 board. About 150

stakeholders participated. The 2019 Focus Day Event provided a firsthand update of the global

FSSC 22000 certification program including newly published Version 5. The FSSC 22000 senior

leaders shared an overview of the benefits of an ISO approach, the revised ISO 22000:2018 and

its alignment with FSMA. In addition, new FSSC 22000 scope expansion, including Transport &

Storage, Catering and Retail were discussed along with case studies. It was a great platform to

gain insights about the benefits of food safety and quality certification from experts in the field

and understand the application of the FSSC 22000 Global Markets Program and its benefits for

small and medium-size organizations (MSME).

17. Nagpur chapter: The World Food Safety Day was celebrated by AFST(I), Nagpur Chapter at

M/s. Mahindra and Mahindra Company, Hingna Industrial Area Nagpur on 7th June 2019. The

programme was chaired by Dr. Madhukar Bhotmange, President AFST(I), Nagpur Chapter who

was the chief guest for this programme. Initially after formal inauguration the importance of Food

safety, personal hygiene and personal protective equipment’s was explained to the staff of

company by Hon’ble President AFST(I), Nagpur Chapter. After this a valuable lecture on Food

and Safety in kitchen was delivered with presentation by Dr. Vijay Karadbhajne, Secretary

AFST(I), Nagpur Chapter the presentation was completed by pledge taken by all the participants

to adopt Food safety norms in general practice. The programme was conducted by Dr. Renuka

Mainde (Practicing dietician and health expert at Company). The programme was concluded with

a promise to give continued support to promote food safety amongst the Food Handlers.

A Lecture on “Organic Foods and Their Regulations” was organized on 12th July 2019. The

Invited speakers were Dr. Suresh Khurana, Advisor, FSSAI, New Delhi and Dr. Prabodh Halde,

Former President, AFST(I). Dr. Khurana elaborated th importance of Organic Foods and

explained in lucid manner their regulatory norms to the audience. Dr. Prabodh Halde stressed the

importance FSSAI movement of EAT RIGHT. The programme was inaugurated by Professor Dr.

Raju Mankar, Director, Laxminarayan Institute of Technology, Nagpur. The programme was well

attended by 200 food professionals.

NETPROFAN: The NetProFAN chapter was inaugurated at the hands of Dr. Nilesh Lele. He has

explained the need of joining hands of various food professionals working such as AFST(i),

Nutrition Society of India, Indian Dietetic Association, Indian Medical Association. All these

professional association joined hands together to improve health of society.

A awareness programme on Oil for Good Health for the employees of M/s. Mahindra and

Mahindra Farm Division Nagpur Plant, was conducted jointly by M/s. Mahindra and Mahindra,

AFSTI Nagpur Chapter and NETPROFAN Nagpur on 13th September 2019 on the occasion to

celebrate National Nutrition Month. The programme was inaugurated by Dr. Madhukar

Bhotmange, President AFSTI Nagpur. The important tips on Choosing good oil for health, what

are trans fats, how to reuse fried oil, how to store fried oil was shared to the officials and staffs of

M/s. Mahindra and Mahindra. This activity was jointly presented by Dr. Vijay Karadbhajne,

Secretary AFSTI Nagpur Chapter, Dr. Renuka Maind (Practicing dietician and health expert at

Company) and students from Oil and Food Technology Department of LIT. the detailed

information was displayed in four posters. Counseling’s session was highly appreciated by the

members and the beneficiaries were more than 350 plus employees of the company.

18. Pondicherry Chapter: AFST(I), Pondicherry chapter in association with the Department of

Food Science and Technology celebrated the world food day on 24/10/2019 with various

programs like ‘quiz o grand, photography competition, face painting, handmade poster/model, e

poster making competition, test your senses, food brand tombola, adzap’. It was a one day

celebration where students from all disciplines participated in almost all the event. Around 200

participants involved actively in the events conducted. The celebration was mainly planned to

emphasize this year’s theme “Our Action Are Our Future. Healthy Diets for A Zero Hunger

World” and disseminating knowledge to promote worldwide awareness and action for those who

suffer from hunger and for the need to ensure healthy diets for all. The event was a grand success.

The valedictory function of the world food day 2019 was celebrated on 11/11/2019 in association

with IDA Pondicherry chapter and Netprofan. The prizes were distributed to the winners of the

events conducted in the presence of dignitaries. The president of Pondicherry Chapter Dr. K.V.

Sunooj proposed the vote of thanks and concluded the world food day celebration.

19. Pune chapter: ‘World Food Day’ was organized at Sharada Nagar, Baramati, Food Technology

College (B.Sc. Food Technology and B.Tech. Dairy Tech) vocational course. About 400

participants participated in the one day programme. The event comprised of Food Show. Industry

participated with food products. Research project exhibition was also organized. AFSTI Pune

participated in the activity and delivered lectures on Food Processing and Safety, Hygiene, Eat

Right for Health, etc. A series of lectures was organized during July to October 2019 at the

Gokhale Institute of politics and Economics, Pune for the promotion of Agri Business Industry

programme. About two hundred participants are getting benefit from the same.

A demonstration cum training programme has been conducted on Processing of Ethnic Food

products for entrepreneurs under micro, small and medium entrepreneurs at MITCON, Satara.

About fifty participants from food industry have taken advantage from the same.

A number of demonstrations on drying of leafy vegetables were organized for farmers in Junner,

Pune. About one hundred participants benefited from the same. A one day demonstration cum

lecture was organized at KVK Narayangaon onProcessing of Tomato and Vegetable products.

About 150 participants including farmers, women, youth attended the same. During the period,

about twenty students from M.Sc. Nutrition and Processing have been given the training on Food

Product Development. Training continued for four months. Food Industries (Small Entrepreneurs)

have been contacted and given training, awareness of Health, Nutrition, Hygiene, Nutrition, and

Hygiene in food sector. Audited statement for the year 2018-2019 was conducted and report to

that effect submitted to the Headquarters, Mysore accordingly. Students, industries, professionals

have been given information and solutions on various activities in the food sector.

A series of demonstration cum lectures were organized at Sakal International School for farmers/

industries on Processing of Fruits and Vegetables, Soya Processing and Multigrain, Millet

Processing in July, September and October 2019. Each time, about 150 participants have been

involved.

Lecture and demonstration on Netpro, Eat Right India, Food Safety and Hygiene, etc. have been

organized in December 2019 with the help of AFSTI student members at Baramati and SNDT

College of Home Science, Pune.

20. Raichur chapter: The chapter celebrated World Food Day - 2019 on 16th October, 2019 in

association with University of Agricultural Sciences, Raichur. Dr. K. N. Kattimani, Honourable

Vice Chancellor, UAS, Raichur delivered a talk on “Challenges and opportunities in food

processing sector in India”. In this context, various competitions viz., Debate, Elocution, Quiz,

Engineering drawing, Extempore were also arranged and prizes were distributed to the winners.

The chapter is continuing the membership drive for eligible candidates in North Karnataka and

submitted number of applications to headquarters.

21. Tezpur Chapter: The chapter took a massive membership drive during the year. Various

teaching and research institutes of the North Eastern region were contacted for the same and the

chapter could increase the members to many folds.

The Chapter celebrated World Food Day on 30th October, 2019 in the Department of Food

Engineering and Technology, Tezpur University. Honourable Vice Chancellor of the University

graced the occasion as the chief guest. The inaugural session was followed by series of lectures by

eminent professors and scientists of Tezpur University and Defence Research Laboratory, Tezpur.

They emphasized on topics like zero hunger, drug delivery and food supply through greenhouse

technology. An industry-academia interaction session was also held, attended by many industrial

personnel from nearby areas. Students’ competition in the form of flash presentation on the new

Release of final circular of ICFoST 2019: On30th October, 2019, the final circular of ICFoST

2019 was released in the presence of Honorable Vice Chancellor of the University.

22. Thrissur Chapter: The Chapter organized a one-day seminar on the occasion of world food

safety day in association with Association of Meat Scientists and Technologists and Meat

Technology Unit, Mannuthy, Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University. Students and

faculty from CVAS, Mannuthy and CFT, Thumboormuzhy participated in the programme. The

formal inauguration was done at seminar hall of Meat Technology Unit, Mannuthy on 7th June

2019, by Dr. J Abraham, Founder Director, COEMST, KAU. Dr Irshad A., Secretary of the

chapter welcomed the gathering. Dr B. Sunil, Professor and Head, Meat Technology Unit gave

the presidential address and Dr George T. Oommen, Former National Vice President handled the

technical session on "food safety and sustainability". Dr Sathu T. Treasurer gave the vote of

thanks. Dr S.N. Rajakumar, Former President, AFSTI TCR Chapter and Special Officer, CFT

Thumboormuzhy facilitated the participants of the seminar.

National Level Memorial Lectures in Food Science & Technology and a Curtain raiser ceremony

of ICFOST 2019 were jointly organized under the auspices of AFST(I), Thrissur Chapter and

Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University on 19th July 2019 at The Seminar Hall of Dr.

Verghese Kurien Institute of Dairy and Food Technology (VKIDFT), Kerala Veterinary and

Animal Sciences University, Mannuthy Campus Thrissur, Kerala. About 200 participants

including Central Executive Committee members food technologists, scientists, undergraduate

and post-graduate students from Kerala and Tamil Nadu participated in the event. Dr. Sathian CT,

President of Thrissur Chapter welcomed the gathering. The function was presided by Dr.

Baskaran V., President, AFST(I). The inauguration of the event was done by Dr. A.G. Mathews,

Former Scientist, CSIR. In his address, he congratulated the AFSTI for celebrating various events

all over the India and he emphasized the importance of Startups in food sector. During the

inaugural session, AFST(I) Corporate Membership offer was released by Dr. Baskaran V,

President, AFST(I), Curtain Raiser event for ICFoST 2019 by Dr. Sudheer Babu, Dean CDST,

Mannuthy, release of First Circular ICFoST- 2019 done by Dr. C Latha, Dean CVAS, Mannuthy

and Remarks on ICFoST given by by AFSTI Tezpur Vice President. Dr. George T. Oommen,

former national Vice president, AFSTI and Dr. P I Geevarghese, Founder President, AFSTI,

Thrissur Chapter were honoured during the function with ponnada and memento for the

commendable contributions to the chapter and lead role in various activities through last many

years. Dr. Irshad A., Secretary, AFSTI, Thrissur Chapter proposed vote of thanks.

The inaugural session was followed by an introductory note by Dr. Wadikar D.D., Hon Secretary,

AFST(I) on Memorial Lectures. GCP Rangarao Memorial Lecture was presented by Dr.

Ravishankar C N., Director, Central Institute of Fisheries Technology (CIFT), Cochin, Kerala on

“Recent advances in Food Packaging” followed by HAB Parpia Memorial Lecture by Dr. K.P.

Sudheer, Associate Director of Research & Head, Kerala Agricultural University, Thrissur, on

“Trends in Food Technology- an opportunity for startup ventures”. Central Executive members

and representative from Tezpur Chapter were participated in the event.

The Chapter celebrated World Food Day 2019 on 16thOctober by conducting a Quiz and Poster

Contest in ‘Food & Nutrition’ for High School Students for the 24thconsecutive year in

association with the Kerala Veterinary & Animal Sciences University. In the same function,

Certificates of Merit and Medals were awarded to the Best Outgoing Graduates in Livestock

Products Technology Courses in BVSc & AH, B Tech (Dairy Science & Technology), B Tech

(Food Engineering), BSc Hon (Agriculture) and BSc (Family and Community Science), as well.

In the Contest, 100 High School students from 20 schools participated with their parents and

Chief Guest Dr. C. Latha, Dean, College of Veterinary & Animal Sciences, Mannuthy, Thrissur.

As part of World Food Day celebration Thrissur Chapter organized a national conference on “

Food technology Innovations for food security - FOODZONE'19” on 18th October 2019 in

association with Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University Union 19-20 and Indian

Dairy Association (Kerala Chapter). The event was organized at Verghese Kurien Institute of

Dairy and Food technology, Mannuthy, Thrissur, Kerala. The event was inaugurated by the

honourable Vice-Chancellor of KVASU Prof (Dr.) Mr. Saseendranath. Eminent personalities like

Dr. P Sudheer Babu, Dean of College of Dairy Science and Technology, Mannuthy and Dr. C

Latha, College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Mannuthy, Dr.S.N Rajakumar, Special officer

College of Food Technology, Thumburmuzhy, Dr. Rajeev T.S Director of Students Welfare,

KVASU, Dr. C. T Sathian President, Association of Food Scientists and Technologist, Thrissur

chapter and Representatives of University Union 19-20 made the graceful with their presence.

Thrissur chapter gratefully acknowledged the help extended by Central executive committee in

connection with flood in Kerala during August 2019. Executive committee of the chapter decided

to purchase four heifers and distribute them to flood affected dairy farmers of Thrissur District.

Heifer cows were purchased from University Livestock Farm of KVASU Mannuthy. Eligible

farmers were selected by Dairy Development Department of Kerala state.

The heifer cows were distributed at a function arranged in connection with inauguration of some

units of KVASU. Honorable minister of Animal husbandry and Dairy development, Kerala state,

Adv. K. Raju distributed the animals to beneficiaries. Feed for one month was also given to

each farmer. An agreement was executed between farmers and AFST(I) Thrissur chapter.

Animals were insured at the expense of chapter. President of chapter, Dr. C.T. Sathian felicitated

in the function. Minister well appreciated the efforts of the chapter.

AFST(I) Headquarters has provided generous support to the Chapter, both in terms of

encouragement and financial backing. The allotment of Rs. 25 Thousand for the conduct of World

food day celebration and one lakh rupees for floor relief activity in 2019 is gratefully

acknowledged.

23. Varanasi chapter: The chapter organized a series of invited lectures and Training programmes

during the year as detailed below;

• A lecture by Prof. Brijesh Tiwari, Chief Editor, Journal of Food Processing and Preservation

• A three days Auditor Course in coordination with the Department from 6/9/2019 – 8/9/2019.

• Mr. Ajay Bhatnagar, KMA Global Training & Certification Service echoeds LLP had conducted

the course. The course content includes HACCP, ISO 2018 and Audits etc.

• One day training for village women -trained them the techniques of making Pickle, Jam, Sauce,

Squash, Chips etc.

• A two days food safety training programme in the Department from 12/9/2019-13/9/2019. Mr.

Sanjay Dave, Former Chairman, Codex delivered the lecture on Codex

• Prof. J. B. Prajapati, Principal & Dean, Faculty of Dairy Science, Anand Agricultural University,

Anand gave lecture on innovation of fermentations on 14/9/2019

• Prof S Gautam, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre gave lecture on Radiation processing of food

and its application on 23/9/2019. Some students and faculties have taken membership of AFST(I).

IX. AFST(I) Education & Publication Trust

The AFST(I) Education & Publication Trust met two times during the year and deliberated on

several important agendas.

Certification for Food Technologists: Regarding certification of Food Technologists, it was

decided to get the views of industries by organizing industry meets as half day programs at

metros such as Chennai, Mumbai, Delhi and Kolkata wherever we have AFST(I) chapters. During

the industry/academia meet at Chennai, it was felt that such certification and the scores would be

beneficial for students and recruiters as well.

Trust Scholarship: A decision was taken to make suitable corrections in scholarship

announcement in order to reach more number of students to apply for the Trust scholarship as

suggested by the previous awards committee The student applying for the scholarship will have to

be studying in the second year.

Request from Kannada Sahridaya Balaga: The Trust decided to support the cause, whenever

any issue of the publication is released.

TREASURER’S REPORT

Dear Members,

Audited report and statement of accounts of the AFST(I) and AFST(I) Education and Publication Trust

for the financial year 2018-19 and Budget for 2019-20 is presented herewith for the kind perusal of

the house.

As advised by the Finance committee a workshop on GST followed by a Lecture by the Chartered

Accountant was arranged at Mumbai chapter on 18th May 2019 for channelizing the GST

registrations of chapters. Headquarters informed all the chapters to nominate one office bearer

from their chapter to participate in the above program with travel allowance. After the workshop, a

handbook on GST guideline was prepared with contribution from the Mumbai Chapter and the same

is circulated to all the chapters for their reference. The first chapter to complete GST registration is

the Chennai Chapter.

Out of 42 chapters we received audited statement from 13 chapters. The consolidated statement of

accounts prepared including 13 chapters’ audited report. I request all the chapter office bearers to

take initiative to send the audit report duly certified by Chartered Accountant well in time to avoid

future complication from the Income Tax Department.

CONTENTS OF AUDITORS REPORT

The report contains:

Consolidated Balance Sheet, Income & Expenditure Account, Receipt & Payment account and

Schedule for the Balance Sheet

Break up for consolidated statement of accounts with schedule

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE FINANCIAL STATEMENT:

With regard to income compared to last year Membership decreased by 7,51,621/-. Due to special

drive for life members are opted to Life Membership. Life Membership increased by Rs.27,82,826/-.

Interest on Fixed Deposit increased by Rs.16,24,457/-. The Royalty received from M/s Springer was

Rs. 1,05,05,181/-for the year 2018. Funds are earmarked as follows:

1. AFST(I) Diamond Jubilee Building Fund 53,00,000.00

2. AFST(I) Education and Publication Trust 10,00,000.00

3. AFST(I) FSSAI Award Fund 10,00,000.00

In the expenditure part IFI Mag printing increased by Rs.2,17,637 because of backlog was updated in

this financial year. Building Rent paid Rs.5,23,760/-, AGBM Expenditure Rs.2,30,977/- as the IFCoN

2018 attendees are more, Contribution to various chapters to conduct World Food Day Rs.3,14,883/-

Donation to relief fund 4,38,848/-. Publishers share of printing of JFST Rs.5,00,000/- and GST paid

6,98,845/- due full financial tax paid. Chapter Programme assistance increased by 1,15,000/-

In spite of repeated reminder most of the chapters are not sending the audited statement of

account of their respective chapters as scheduled.

BUDGET:

Budget of Rs.2,47,00,000/- towards AFST(I) and Rs.11,50,000/- towards AFST(I) Education and

Publication Trust has been estimated for the year 2018-19. The details of this budget can be found in

the annual report. I take this opportunity to thank the President, AST(I) Dr V Baskaran, Hon.

Secretary, Dr D D Wadikar and all other Hon’ble CEC members and the Finance Committee.

Further, I thank behalf of AFST(I) HQ all those office bearers of respective chapters for sending the

audited reports to HQ on time.

I would like to thank Mr Vaidyanathan N, Chartered Accountant for auditing the accounts of AFST(I)

and AFST(I) Education and Publication Trust .

It was really a great opportunity for me to work as a Treasurer for this internationally recognised

Audit Report under section 12A (b) of the Income-tax Act, 1961 in the case of

We have examined the balance sheet of ASSOCIATION OF FOOD SCIENTISTS &

TECHNOLOGIST (INDIA), AAAAA 4525 B as at 31st March 2019 and the income and expenditure

account for the year ended on that date which are in agreement with the books of account maintained by

the said Trust or institution.

We have obtained all the information and explanations which to the best of our knowledge and belief

were necessary for the purposes of the audit. In our opinion, proper books of account have been kept by

the head office and the branches of the above-named Trust visited by us so far as appears from our

examination of the books, and proper Returns adequate for the purposes of audit have been received from

branches not visited by us subject to the comments given below: -

1. We did not audit the Financial Information of 12 branches included in the FinancialStatements of AFST(I). The Financial Information of these branches has been audited by theother auditors whose report have been furnished to us ,and our opinion in so far relates to theamounts and disclosures included in respect of these branches and our report, in so far as itrelates to the aforesaid branches, is based solely on the report of such other auditors.

2.The Association comprises of 41 branches, out of which financial information of 12 branchesaudited by the other auditors have been included in this financial statements. However we havenot received any information regarding the rest 29 branches.

3.Fixed deposit balances as per books and bank statements do not match and reconciliation isnot provided to us

We have examined the balance sheet of AFST(I) EDUCATION AND PUBLICATION TRUST, AAATA 3668 A [name and

PAN of the trust or institution] as at 318t

March 2019 and the Income and Expenditure account for the year ended on that

date which are in agreement with the books of account maintained by the said Trust.

We have obtained all the information and explanations which to the best of our knowledge and belief were necessary for

the purposes of the audit. In our opinion, proper books of account have been kept by the head office as far as appears

from our examination of the books, and proper Returns adequate for the purposes of audit have been received by us

subject to the comments given below:

In our opinion and to the best of our information, and according to information given to us the said accounts give a true and

fair view: -
