5th Annual Neighborly AwardThe Neighborly Award is presented to a volunteer, employee or other supporter of Neighborhood Clinic in memory of Dr. Joe Robinette, 1946-2011, a longtime volunteer at the clinic with a special gift for listening to each and everyone's story, no matter the circumstances. In 2016 the recipient was Marisol Salazar, a dedicated volunteer medical assistant and interpreter, who suffered the tragic loss of her young husband just a month after the birth of the latest addition to their beautiful family. Marisol has since been accepted to a physician assistant program. We are so happy for her achievement and want to say: We love you, Marisol!

2016 Annual Report
April 2017
Hello Friends,
We have some exciting highlights to share about 2016 at Neighborhood Clinic!
• 1057 total medical and dental visits - 11% increase over 2015.• Expanded partnership with CHI Franciscan added more no-cost services for
our patients.• Free vaccines program for uninsured adults was launched.• New clinic coordinator, Amanda Agena, CMA, joined the team.• Net increase of 23% in number of active volunteers.• Three new board members bring new eyes and experience to governance.
For 2017, a primary organizational goal in 2017 is to strengthen our capacity. With an invigorated development committee, and a robust, ambitious grant plan for the year, we anticipate success! Some reasons why individuals seek care at Neighborhood Clinic:
• Higher premiums and deductibles each year. In 2017 the Affordable Care Act (ACA) plan with the lowest monthly premium for adults in Pierce County is $216, with annual deductible of $6,800. Many patients drop coverage to meet other basic needs.
• Exclusion from the ACA of many of our immigrant patients. • Soaring housing/rental costs take up a disproportionate amount of
household budgets.• The growing homelessness crisis.
We are grateful for our financial supporters and volunteers who change our patients’ lives for the better. As we prepare for the possible dismantling or significant weakening of the ACA, we plan to be here for patients as long as they need us!
In solidarity,
Stacey Romero, Executive Director

Our community partners at CHI Franciscan continued their generous support of Neighborhood Clinic’s mission. In 2016 Laboratory contributed services with a value of $7,237 and Pharmacy filled no-charge prescriptions for our patients in need, totaling an incredible $33,152 of medication! In addition, Diagnostic Imaging began writing off our patients’ x-rays. CHI Franciscan helps our patients access the diag-nostic tools and treatment they need, without accumulating medical debt. THANK YOU, CHI FRANCISCAN!
At first glance, our $11,000 deficit may seem like a negative situation. During these expansion years at Neighborhood Clinic, our 2016 budget relied on us using $17,000 from savings. While dipping into savings isn’t optimal, we are pleased that we finished the year $6,000 better off than anticipated.
