FROM THE DESK OF PRESIDENT

Life is getting busy every day and with this, time is flying faster every moment; but it passed

by quite quicker for our tenure. It seems like yesterday to me, when I was honored to serve

as the President of this august body and it remained a great pleasure and honor for me to

lead the FORUM. I am thankful to Almighty Allah who granted me and my team enough

strength and guidance for a whole year, not only to maintain the standard of this wonderful

FORUM, but to serve the community in a meaningful way.

I take this opportunity to express my sincere appreciation to all Members of the Managing

Committee for their cooperation, trust and support throughout my tenure as President. It

was a wonderful experience working with a nice blend of senior and junior members of the

FORUM. I was also blessed to have many invaluable mentors such as Prof. Dr. Abdul Ghaffar

Billoo, Mr. Abdul Wahid Tejani, Mr. Abdul Qadir Memon, Mr. Muhammad Hanif Janoo, Mr.

M. Ashraf Bawany, Engr. Engr. M. Saleem Rangoonwala, Mr. Muhammad Zubair and Mr.

Muhammad Hanif Jakhura, to name a few, who have guided me through out the year for

running the affairs of the FORUM effectively. I was also lucky to have a great team of Office

Bearers always available to brace me with full energy whenever needed.

While setting our goals in the beginning of Silver Jubilee Year, we were very sensitive to take

the challenge of transforming the Silver Year into a Golden era of the FORUM. The aim at

large was to elevate MPF to further heights for which following line of action was adopted:

Carry on the agenda of previous committees to maintain the continuity in policies

Improve and increase communication with the members of the FORUM

Enhance networking among members of the FORUM

Create an opportunity for MPF to work with various Memon Organizations

enhancing the living standard of Memon Community, in general

Increase interaction with other likeminded organizations, invoking resource sharing

and enhancing target audience participation in the programs

Setting up a long term agenda for MPF through brain storming session with Strategic

Advisory Board (SAB) and Memon Community leaders.

Activate MPF Academy to play a pivotal role in the development of youth

By the grace of ALLAH, I feel pleasure to declare that we successfully followed our agenda

with the support of all Managing Committee Members and Past Presidents of MPF.

In the beginning of the year, for the first time in the history of MPF, a survey was carried out

among MPF members to have their feedback on MPF activities and its role. This electronic

survey (telephonic and web based) gave a boost to our team as Members, in general,

reposed their confidence in MPF.

This exercise also allowed us to verify the members’ data. Mr. Aamir Iqbal Motiwala, Joint

Secretary deserves special appreciation in this regard who not only floated the idea but also

remained instrumental in its implementation process.

With a strong emphasis on effective communication with the Members, a SMS service was

established to inform members about various programs along with launching of a MPF page

on Facebook. Vice President Sumera Muhammad, Mr. Saad Sikandar Jangda and Mr. Faraz

Younus Bandukda deserve applaud for their significant role in this activity. The website is

also undergoing some changes and will be re-launched by December 2010.

We conducted several programs in this year starting with seminars on “Team Building”,

“Conflict Management”, “Entrepreneurship – Unlocking your Mind’s Potential” and

“Importance of Life Insurance”. Mini Conference on “Islamic Banking” was a major event of

first half when Dr. Umer Chappra, a senior member of MPF, made a presentation on the

subject of his expertise. The program was held at ICAP Auditorium with approximately 250

participants. I am thankful to Mr. Muhammad Hanif Janoo, Mr. Jawwad Shekha, Mr. Faraz

Younus Bandukda, Mrs. Farzana Munaf and Mr. Asif Ismail for playing vital role in these

programs. My exclusive thanks are due to my friend, Mr. Muhammad Zubair who convened

the Mini Conference on Islamic Banking.

Another milestone of the year was the revitalization of MPF Academy, where two courses

were offered. The first was a series of 12 Lectures on “Art of Communication” held at MPF

office and other was a 16- hours workshop on “Personal Effectiveness with Abbas Husain”

held at DadaBhoy Institute, Academic Partners for the year. Engr. M. Saleem Rangoonwala

deserves appreciation for playing his key role in this area.

One of the most innovative achievements of the year was formation of Medical Group of

Memon Hospitals. The aim of this group is to enhance the quality of all community hospitals

by virtue of training each other and sharing experiences, to reduce the operation cost by

means of avoiding duplication and sharing the resources with each other and to introduce

the idea of joint purchasing for cost effectiveness. The Medical Group Committee had

meetings every second Sunday of the month and held two workshops in the year, one on

the “Basics of Infection Control and CSSD Techniques” where 125 participants from different

hospitals attended the program and other on “Enhancing the Quality of Nursing in

Community Hospital”, attended by 40 male and female nurses from various Memon

Hospitals. The committee has also planned a Mini Conference on Medical, which will now be

held in next tenure. This program involves thorough efforts by Dr. Muhammad Tufail, Dr.

Khalid Bhambha, Dr. Asif Naseem Osawala, Arch. Faisal Bilwany, Mr. Mohsin Adhi, Mr.

Kashif Jessani and last but not least my wife Ayesha, who also played a vital role in

coordinating this very important Committee of MPF. It was decided in the Managing

Committee that Medical Group Committee will continue for a period of at least five years,

as this is a long term goal and demands continuation.

In order to maintain and increase the interaction with various like minded organizations, a

program was conducted on “Finance Act” with PAFO at ICMAP City Auditorium. One more

event was planned and announced with ACEP and IEP on “Safety in Buildings” but was

cancelled at last moment due to law and order situation in the city. Mr. Junaid Aba Ali

played a key role in “Finance Act”, whereas Engr. M. Saleem Rangoonwala, Arch. Gul Ahmed

Mayari and Ar. Farida Ghaffar remained instrumental in the development of program on

“Safety in Buildings”, which is rescheduled for October 2010.

Young youth is like fuel which keeps running any organization to move ahead. Keeping in

mind the importance of this substance, Managing Committee gathered the data of Young

Memon youth qualified after year 2002 to honor them in a program “Meet the Future

Leaders”. The program is scheduled for December 2010. Arch. Gul Ahmed Mayari deserves a

big round of applause for taking up this challenging task for the second time, as the last

program was also held under his leadership eight years ago.

The record number of five meetings of Strategic Advisory Board of MPF in a year was a

major success, as this is the platform, which enables MPF to have continuity in policies and

boosts the moral of current Managing Committee. MPF has two distinctions, which makes it

a unique organizations; one is existence of Strategic Advisory Board, comprises of 12

immediate Past Presidents and second is the balanced representation of all the disciplines in

one single organization. The Chairman of the SAB, Mr. Mr. Muhammad Hanif Janoo played

inspiration role in creating this synergy. I cannot find words to express my gratitude to Hanif

Bhai who stood by me throughout the year.

In order to enhance the networking, two gatherings were organized; one at a lunch in honor

of Mr. Ahmed Chinoy and Mr. Abdul Rahim Suriya and other at a dinner with Community

Leaders and Past Presidents of MPF from the platform of “MPF-Vision Ahead” to discuss and

seek their guidance for long term objectives of the FORUM. Once again, the role played by

all Past Presidents of MPF especially Mr. Mr. Muhammad Hanif Janoo along with Mr. Mr.

Muhammad Hanif Jakhura and Mr. M. Ashraf Bawany were unparalleled.

The Managing Committee has worked hard on reviewing the Bye-Laws and redesigning MPF

logo. The work is still underway. Mr. Faraz Younus Bandukda was leading this team with

Senior Vice President Mr. Mushtaq Ahmed Madraswala, Engr. M. Saleem Rangoonwala,

Arch. Gul Ahmed Mayari, Joint Secretary Aamir Iqbal Motiwala and Mr. Jawwad Shekha.

Continuing the previous year tradition, one of the major milestones of the year was a

conference on “Entrepreneurship 2010 – Changing the Mindsets”. This revenue generating

event has now become a trade mark of MPF. The most encouraging part of the very

thoughtful event was high participation besides unrest condition in the Metropolis on

particular date. This project was chaired by Mr. Mr. Muhammad Hanif Jakhura along with

able leadership skills of Mr. Mr. Muhammad Hanif Janoo. The entire team of conference

committee deserves great appreciation for the marathon effort and I would like to thank

Mr. Arif Habib, Mr. Yousuf Adil, Mr. M. Ashraf Bawany, Mr. Rafiq Rangoonwala, Mr. Shahzad

Dada, Mr. Abdul Jabbar Rathod, Mr. Muhammed Zubair, Mr. Mehmood Parekh and Mr.

Mohsin Adhi for their keen participation. This was truly a team effort, where our Event

Managers M/s. Terrabiz also played a vital role. I also want to thank all learned speakers,

moderators and panelists for their active participation and all sponsors, in particular, whose

contribution made it a success.

This FORUM has been reaching new heights every year. The hard work of all previous

committees had taken away this organization far from infancy period. This has now become

a matured and active platform to serve the community having great potential to become

the nucleus of all Community activities. We had a dream of working as partners with all

other likeminded organizations to achieve more as a team and we will keep our efforts on

this alignment with more aggression in coming years.

While thanking individuals, there is always a risk of grieving someone by unintentional

omission for which I very much regret. However, I will fail in my duties if I do not

acknowledge those, whose presence around me always gives me great boost.

My great thanks are due to Mr. Mohsin Adhi, who held key position of Honorary Secretary

General and was available 24/7 at MPF office for running the affairs smoothly. His

dedication allowed all of us to take more challenges. I would like to thank Mr. M. Iqbal Gaba

for keeping the accounts of the FORUM updated, Joint Secretary Mr. Aamir Iqbal Motiwala

for bringing new ideas and to initiate the work on membership cards (due in coming year). I

am grateful to Senior Vice President, Mr. Mushtaq Ahmed Madraswala for playing very

supportive role by backing me on all events unconditionally and keeping financial matters

run smooth. I also extend many thanks to Mrs. Farzana Munaf for her support in all

activities. I am thankful to Mr. M. Anis Noorwala for taking on the printing media on urgent

basis every time. Special thanks to Vice President Ms. Sumera Muhammad for her support

in all programs not only for effective electronic promotion, but also because of sharing

every detail in depth. Special thanks to Mr. Asif Ismail for supporting the activities every

time and being the part of major discussions throughout. My thanks are due to Mr. Abdul

Aziz Tayabani for his advisory role and valuable feedback.

Special thanks to my parents, family members, my wife Ayesha and my office partner Mr.

Adnan A. Qadir for not only allowing my to snatch time from their shares, but also to play an

active part during my tenure.

I also acknowledge the role of few mentors in my MPF career, Mr. Abdul Wahid Tejani, Prof

Dr. Abdul Ghaffar Billoo, Mr. Mr. Muhammad Hanif Janoo and Mr. Abdul Qadir Memon. I

also thank the most silent partner of my engagement with MPF, Mr. Muhammad Zubair for

sparing his time whenever needed. I used to consult him on all matters and seek his advice

from time to time. I also extend my thanks to Mr. Abdul Jabbar Rathod for his support

through out the year.

My special thanks are due to MPF Secretariat, especially Mr. Hashim Hussain for his

dedicated commitment round the year. The strength of the Secretariat is increasing as each

day is progressing high and now it has become a great help to Office Bearers and Managing

Committee in discharging their duties.

Being very satisfied at the end of my tenure as President MPF, I still feel that we were not

able to work more on the membership growth, which has lot of potential. The undergoing

preparation to launch “MEET THE FUTURE LEADERS” was part of this plan and I hope that

after launching this program in December 2010, we will be able to augment our growth

significantly.

The most satisfactory part for me was to witness the completion of the dream of my uncle

Mr. Abdul Qadir Mirajwala, one of the founding members of MPF, who had a strong desire

to see me as the President of this august body of Memon Professionals and was the person

responsible for my development as a professional. Although, he is not with us any more, but

completion of his dream is one of the top achievements in my entire career.

Another satisfactory moment of the year was production of a new documentary of MPF

capturing 25 years of MPF success. I thank Mr. Zeeshan Jessani for his outstanding support

in the production. Ms. Sumera Muhammad and Ar. Farida Ghaffar also played very

supportive role in this venture.

Last but not the least, I am thankful to Year Sponsors M/s Gatron (Industries) Limited, M/s.

Clipsal Pakistan (Pvt.) Limited, M/s Premier Cable (Pvt.) Limited, M/s Polani Group of

Companies, M/s Faizan Steel Group and M/s Abbas Group for their extra ordinary support.

This is always due to their patronage that MPF is able to take various initiatives.

My tenure as President of MPF is coming to a close, but my commitment to the

organization, I love and devoted to, will continue. I wish my successors all the success and

assure them of my support all the way.

Best Regards,

Engr. Pervez Abubaker

HONORARY SECRETARY GENERAL’S REVIEW FOR 2009-2010

I feel immense pleasure to present Annual Report and Audited Accounts of MPF for its 25th

year Celebration. This year, Engr. Pervez Abubaker while taking a charge from President Mr.

Mr. Muhammad Hanif Jakhura was highly motivated considering the kind of benchmark set

by Mr. Jakhura’s leadership.

President Pervez Abubaker who had also served MPF as Honorary Secretary General in past

took the reins with very clear objectives in his mind, one of which was to carry whole team

along with him and engage all Past Presidents in MPF activities in order to embark the 25th

year celebrations of MPF. Each member of the Managing Committee was eager to perform

this year and the whole Committee teamed up to highlight the Forum among the

Professionals. I feel proud to be part of such committee and enjoyed the company of

cooperative Office Bearers. The committee is becoming stronger with the prominent role of

Strategic Advisory Board (SAB) led by Chairman Mr. Muhammad Hanif Janoo.

During the year we conducted various activities with an aim to address all major

professional disciplines. Few of the prominent events of the year were “Islamic Banking”

(mini conference) in which Dr. Umer Chappra honored the Forum with his key note speech,

Engineering Conference (mini conference) and amongst the top was the Conference of the

year “Entrepreneurship -2010” which included imminent personalities from business

community. During the whole year untiring efforts were made to take various leaders and

renowned personalities of the community into MPF fold. These personalities included Mr.

Hussain Dawood, Mr. Pir Muhammad Diwan, Mr. Muhammad Ali Tabba, Mr. Maqsood

Ismail, Mr. Arif Habib, Mr. Moin Fudda, Mr. Ziyad Bashir, Mr. Hunaid Lakhani, Mr. Shehzad

Dada, Mr. Rafiq Rangoonwala and Ms, Rabia Garib. All of these personalities came in MPF

fold through the Entrepreneurship conference. MPF, this year, also took an initiative to call

up the meeting of renowned personalities leading different professional activities, which

included mostly Conference delegates and others such as Mr. Aziz Memon, Mr. Mushtaq

Chappra, Mr. Pir Muhammad Kaliya, Mr. Zakaria Usman, Mr. Iqbal Ebrahim and many more.

During the year, MPF also conducted small scale programs for personality development of

the members which included “Team Building” and “Personal Effectiveness Toolkit by Mr.

Abbas Hussain”, “Conflict Management” by Mr. Ashraf Usman, “Entrepreneurship- 2010 -

Unlocking the Mind Potential” by Mr. Nizar Noorali Bhulani and “Life Insurance Awareness”

by Mr. Shabbir Dhirani. Furthermore, MPF activated the MPF Academy by introducing a

course based on the need to enhance communication skills for those members who want to

enhance their communications skills both in written and verbal communication. Mr. Taimur

Sabih conducted 12 days workshop specially designed for the participants after their

individual assessment. This year a seminar was conducted on “Financial Act” in collaboration

with PAFO at ICMAP city campus in order to deliberate on the Budget 2010-2011. MPF this

year also honored Mr. Ahmed Chinoy on his appointment as a Chief CPLC and Mr. Adbul

Rahim Suriya for his leadership as ICAP President, while to flourish the occasion all the Past

Office Bearers were invited which proved to be the reunion of MPF Honorary OB’s.

MPF took an initiative led by Dr. Muhammad Tufail to get all Memon Hospitals united under

one roof. Taking this vision ahead monthly meetings were planned in which all Memon

Hospitals were invited to share their ideas and problems regarding sharing each others

resources. In order to facilitate all community Hospitals two seminars were organized

namely “Basic Infection Control” in collaboration with Tabba Heart Hospital and other on

“Nursing” in collaboration with Patel hospital. Further taking the advantage of Inauguration

of Memon Medical Institute during the tenure, MPF took on board Mr. Pir Muhammad

Diwan who is leading the team of MMI.

In the end I would like to congratulate entire Managing Committee, the Past Presidents and

all members of the FORUM one more successful year and pray for the continuation of such

successful march of the FORUM in upcoming years. I would like to thank entire Managing

Committee Members, Office Bearers for the current year, all the Past Presidents and

especially the Office Secretariat Mr. Hashim Hussain and Mr. Zohaib for their continuous

support in managing all proceedings round the year. I would end this message with special

thanks to Engr. Pervez Abubaker; President of the FORUM and Mr. Muhammad Hanif Janoo

Chairman SAB, their untiring efforts made this year a successful tenure and helped me learn

considerably from their experiences.

Thank you,

Mohsin Adhi

what makes a team effective or ineffective. Therefore he highlighted the advantages of

Team:

o Sharing the information and ideas meeting psychological needs for being with others

specialization is possible.

o Improved learning & decisions makings.

SEMINAR ON CONFLICT MANAGEMENT

Another program of Professional Development Committee was held on 18th

December 2009

at MPF which was convened by Mr. Jawwad Shekha, Convener Professional Development

Committee. He introduced Mr. Ashraf Usman, Chief Learning Officer of the Learning

Organization, who has more than 20 years of experience to provide practical and cost

an issue. There are two type of conflicts either it is Substantive or may be Emotional conflict.

Some time the conflict may be Destructive or it may be Constructive. The Constructive

conflict help the individual to develop skills to release emotions, anxiety, stress, build

cooperation, helps individual to develop understanding and skills. The Destructive conflict

normally takes attention away from other important activities, polarize people and reduce

cooperation, increase, sharpens the differences and that leads to irresponsible behavior.

solution mechanism and alternative conflict management styles in detail.

LEARN THE ART OF COMMUNICATION

Memon Professional Forum this year revitalized MPF Academy programs in order to groom

the young professionals. “Learn the Art of Communication” is a program, initiated with the

concept to assist professionals enhancing their communication skills be it a verbal

communication or written communication. The program began with the individual

assessment of each student and then assignments were given to them accordingly. The

program was based on twelve sessions in which initial attention was given to the rules of

grammar and then the focus was diverted to the verbal and written communication. The

duration of each session was designed considering the focused group attention which lasted

for one and half hour for each session. In the end each candidate was asked to write and

present the synopsis of their life and future career plans. Mr. Taimur Sabih, the instructor of

this short course and a professional English Language instructor (previously had worked for

Berlitz) also appreciated the initiative of Memon Professional Forum. The program lasted for

12 weeks from 9th

January 2010 to 17th

April 2010 which concluded with the illustration that

there is a desperate need of such courses and it can be justified with the feedback forms

filled by the participants at the end of the event.
