President’s Report The 2018/2019 season has come to a close and I would like to acknowledge the many people it takes to run the club and complete our obligations on the beach. Firstly, I would like to thank the Committee. I have been involved with many committees but it has been a pleasure to serve with this year’s committee who have undertaken their assigned tasks with competence and provided good governance throughout the season. In particular I would like to acknowledge the efforts of our Treasurer, Bob Emery. Bob has been the treasurer for the last 6 seasons and will be standing down at the AGM. Bob inherited a mess when he took over, and has applied his accounting skills to transform the club into a properly run modern business. Bob’s expertise will be sadly missed. I would also acknowledge Trevor Franklin as Secretary & Dione Edwards as Club Captain, who have shown great professionalism undertaking two of the more demanding roles on the committee. On the Junior front, once again, Danny Suitor and his team have run the nipper program with great success teaching in excess of 250 kids surf skills which hopefully will see their transition into Senior members in due course. In this regard I would like to acknowledge the efforts of Jodi Kemp and Leanne Edwards in undertaking the role of Cadet Supervisor and providing that important transition from Junior to Senior Member. This role has been lacking in the past and our appreciation must go to Jodi & Leanne for keeping members finishing nippers engaged. Next I would like to acknowledge our Active Patrolling Members. The Club exists to provide a surf life saving role at Flynns Beach which would not be possible without our Bronze and SRC Qualified & Proficient Members. This year we were able to form 12 patrols and my thanks go to Patrol Captains and each member for their ongoing commitment to Surf Lifesaving. In this regard I would also thank Phil and the education team for running Bronze courses to put additional qualified members on the beach. On the completion front we once again had a good showing at the Country Titles largely on the back of a big nipper contingent. The club claimed 7th Place overall and 1st in our Branch. We also had a small contingent of members compete at the State titles. I would also like to acknowledge the support and thank of our sponsor, The Friday night raffle crew and our Caretaker/Bar Manager Barry and bar staff all of who contribute to our finances to keep the club running. On a sad note I attended the Coronial Inquest into the disappearance of Bronson Rhodes. As the Coroner’s findings will not be handed down for several months the recommendations will need to be assessed by the incoming committee. I believe the club is well placed coming into the 2019/2020 season and thank all members for their ongoing commitment to Surf Life Saving. Bill Amy President

Treasurer’s Report The audited Financial Report for the year ended 31 May 2019 has been circulated to members, and shows that the Club remains in a healthy financial position. A deficit of $39,304 emerged in the year under review, and as a result the Club’s net assets fell from $761,290 to $721,985 over the year. The cash component of those net assets at year end, was $295,268, down from $327,274 last year. The principal contributor to this year’s deficit was the renovation of the clubhouse, which attracted a grant of $89,400, against which $157,511 was expended. This grant was conditional upon us expending at least $120,000. The deficit was also somewhat less than my forecast of a surplus of $30,000 for the year. In addition, our overall revenue decreased by $23,567 after removing the renovation grant, as against $2,457 last year. There were of course individual increases and decreases amongst our revenue items. On the other hand, our overall expenditure, abstracting for the cost of the renovation project was, for all intends and purposes unchanged. Again of course individual items fluctuated. Included is a depreciation charge of $22,353, being a noncash item. On an increased turnover, the gross profit on bar trading rose by $8,550 to $47,716 despite the increased cost of purchases and higher wages. Merchandise trading shows a loss of $2,118, as stock at the end of the year was again valued very conservatively, to reflect trading conditions. Hall hire activities, which are intertwined with bar trading, produced revenue of $21,740, up $1,887 after hall hire expenses, which increased by $910 for the year. Thus combined, the hall and the bar produced a surplus of $69,456 for the year, reflecting the good work of Barry Paff and Kellie Mullan. My forecast for the present year, based on a budgetary exercise, is another surplus of some $30,000. Our attention needs to be directed, in the present year, to restoring our revenue flow. Finally, I would again like to thank the people who pitched in and kept the finances flowing in my absences during the year, and particularly Deb Hurkett for her efforts as assistant treasurer. Bob Emery Treasurer Port Macquarie Surf Life Saving Club Inc. 23 July 2019

Training Report We inaugurated our 2018/19 season with getting as many of our members to be refreshed through running two dry proficiency session during August. It was delightful to see our president, Bill Amy to assist and see our members get the skills they need in saving lives. Other club members who gave up their time included Lecke Frost, James Robertson, Kyden Power-O'Toole, Lisa Chandler, Lee Cassel, Tony Wright and Molly Kemp. These members gave up their own time during the week to practice proficiency activities, sharpen their skills and help members refresh for the new season. Also, an honourable mention to Lecke Frost, James Robertson, Kyden Power-O'Toole and Molly Kemp who are in their senior year of school, they courageously work with large groups to provide proficiency activities at a time that is very busy for them. These activities no doubt will add to their character building and developing emotional and social intelligence in equipping them for their future careers.

As the season progressed, more trainers and delegates provided their time to help more of our members refreshed for the new season, these include, Ken Wilson, Hugh Mackay and Kim Rayner. Together with other delegates, their cooperation was well appreciated. The 2018/19 season provided an opportunity to deliver two Bronze/SRC programs with an added bonus that the candidates were introduced to the IRB Crew program and can progress to attain their IRB crew certificate after their Bronze/SRC program. The two Bronze/SRC program included the Spring Bronze/SRC, which provided a diverse group of candidates from age and life experience to the club, there were 21 graduates to the club and in turn added more capabilities to lifesaving on patrol.

The final Bronze, was the Summer group being delivered at the front end of 2019. We had a smaller co-hort of 8 graduates but equally proactive and competent with their life saving skills.

I’d like to thank the trainers, Hugh Mackay, Ken Wilson, Kim Rayner, Amanda Higgerson, Simon Ross and Rob McCue. On the IRB component Paul Rayner, with the help of Glenn Scott and Danny Suitor’s experience, were proactively introducing the candidates to the world of IRB crewing. Doug Hawkins from Coogee SLSC who provided another engaging nipper’s education also provided his expertise in the learning within the classroom and on the beach. This year, we also see new members who have decided to step up their efforts in helping to equip others becoming life savers via being a probationary training officer, they are Louise Hopkins, Sonja Crossingham and highly competent lifesaver - Stephen Heslop.

This has been a big year for Steve, who has been vital to the building of new lifesavers and their capabilities through almost every session when we delivered the Bronze program, Steve is critical to our training team and his effort is very much appreciated from many of the members and the committee. Furthermore, his acute fitness skills is evident in providing fitness components for the Bronze/SRC group and also included the newly formed fitness group being delivered every Friday morning – The Port Macquarie Blazers, headed by super coach Mel Cockshutt. This program has given rise to better club culture, fitter members, inclusive of other clubs to join and a reason to get up in morning to be refreshed by our Port Macquarie coastline before the world of work starts. Mel also helped out at the University International Student beach safety session to provide added safety knowledge for non-local students in enjoying our beaches.

On the SRC, led by Amanda Higgerson with the assistance of Jason Bryant from Tacking Point and Michelle Garvan from Camden Haven, provided under 14 – “Radio” and “Provide first aid” certificate within the SRC program. Amanda was also busy with the under 11 - Resuscitation certificate program. I’d also like to thank Amanda, Hugh Mackay and Ken Wilson who provided needed services to record all our training equipment and to update several equipment to an operational state. Finally, the season started with very low numbers of qualified IRB drivers and active IRB crew members to be patrol ready, however Danny Suitor provided new light into bringing more members

to be IRB crew qualified. Danny was the catalyst to connect with the ALBERT team in Sydney, who generously provided their time with a few of our Mid North Coast IRB members to help run the course organised by Branch. Danny, Rex O’Rourke are now on their way to gaining the qualification as national trainers, they will be equipped to deliver the IRB program. I’d also like to congratulate Steve Heslop, who has graduated in being a nationally endorsed trainer. A special mentioned that I want to give honour and a well deserve appreciation to is Ken Wilson and Hugh Mackay for their valuable contribution to the club’s education programs in the last two decades, their time and effort cannot be discounted but rather I would like to reflect our club’s gratitude towards them. Because of the new changes to the national policy in training and assessment, Hugh and Ken have chosen to withdraw their assessor’s qualification upgrade, however they will still be trainers and proficiency delegates. I would also like to provide the club’s massive appreciation to Tony Wright. Because of the content of his character, he has provided so much help needed in proficiency, engagement to the members, Bronze/SRC program and the University International Student beach safety session. His participation has been consistent and engaging for the candidates. Phil Hua Chief Training Officer Youth Engagement Program (Cadet program). The 2018/2019 surf club season saw the Youth Engagement Program (YEP) introduced to the Port Macquarie SLSC. The first club on the Mid North Coast to adopt this nationally recognized program. The key aim of adopting the YEP program is to keep our U15 & U17’s engaged and involved within the surf lifesaving movement. It was recognised there was no clear pathway between nippers and becoming active and patrolling members, with newly identified cadets left ‘floundering’ within the club. These cadets are the future volunteers and leaders within our club. YEP brings about a structured engagement program with tangible outcomes and clear pathways for the Cadet age group within the areas of Lifesaving, Development & Surf Sports. The program incorporates all three listed areas with the focus being that each cadet is an individual and has individual interests and varying levels of involvement – ensuring each cadet feels valued, included and engaged. From small beginnings with only a handful of cadets actively engaged at the start of its inaugural season, the program, by the end of the season, had 31 engaged youth with the majority of those having attained their Bronze Medallion and the remainder ready to obtain their Bronze in the new season. Although, the primary goal of YEP is to retain the cadets as an integral part of the patrol, the grass roots focus is the creation of friendships, unity, trust, support and belonging so the cadet naturally wants to stay involved. Numerous activities have been supported by the club and facilitated within the cadet programs first year including:

- Increase in the numbers of youth with their SRC obtaining their Bronze Medallion at their first opportunity; - Social get togethers and events including the first Christmas Party being held at Paintball; end of season camping trip; - Competitions – local, branch, Country and State champs plus Interbranch; - Raising near $1000 for the club - General involvement by volunteering in the club and community including Sovereign Hill Open Day in February attended in the vast majority by cadets; Port Macquarie Ironman Event providing water safety; - ‘Welcome Breakfast’ hosted by the current cadets welcoming the next seasons new cadets with bacon and egg rolls with the most important aspect being the natural melding of the two groups. The Cadets successfully fundraised near $1000 for the PMSLSC with the cadets themselves organizing, running and delivering each fundraising event. Multiple fundraising activities were used to raise these funds including ‘Welcome Back to Nippers BBQ’ event held on the first Sunday of the nipper season, a number of other Breakfast BBQ’s and ‘100 Clubs’. PMSLSC was represented at all levels of competition including Club, Branch, Country and State champs with more cadets than we have ever had attend in the past. Things are looking bright for the upcoming season with the cadets themselves already identifying multiple team events they would like to train in. Some of these events have not been traditional events PMSLSC have competed in. Our cadets have also volunteered over 1150 patrol hours and over 210 general volunteer hours to the club in the 2018/2019 season. Things are looking bright with our current and upcoming cadets being a group to watch out for. Additional information about YEP is available by following the link: https://www.surflifesaving.com.au/sites/site.test/files/YEP%20Participant%20Handbook.pdf including how the program is rewarded. And on a personal note, a big thank you for allowing this program to get off the ground goes to the current Committee for supporting this initiative, age managers past for getting the cadets to this level within SLS and the parents of the cadets themselves for entrusting me with your children who have been an absolute pleasure to be around. See you on the beach next season Jodi Kemp Cadet Co-Ordinator

2018/2019 Competition Managers Report PMSLSC continues to be a strong force in the Branch when it comes to competition. Our Nippers are always well represented and this season we saw an increase in the number of cadets competing. Our Masters numbers are growing and the focus next season will be to encourage more members to participate at all levels. State Titles at Swansea 23 competitors attended - 8 x Masters 1 x cadet and 14 x nippers. Great results for our Masters with the Girls boaties coming 1st. Amanda Higgerson and Paula Stone placed and medalled in several events. Country titles at Cudgen PMSLSC had a wonderful representation with 92 PMSLSC members attending. 19 x Masters, 7 x Cadets and 66 x Nippers. 7 officials attended and without their commitment we could not have attended. We placed 6th overall taking home approx. 41 medals. A big thank you to: Adam Matthews, Noni Collins, Nev Collins, Monique Suitor, John Spokes, Rob McCue and Leanne Hatherly. Branch carnivals Conditions were a little tricky this season with the swell and weather, not to mention the weed at Flynns. 1st branch carnival U9 – U17’s at Camden Haven started well but the conditions deteriorated and no beach events were held. 2nd carnival at SWR was held for U8’s – U14’s but due to lack of officials no results were recorded. Branch Championships - Was held at TP due to the large amount of weed at Flynns beach. Opens/ Masters carnival, U15’s – Masters was the only carnival to have perfect conditions and all events were run. Water for the nippers was cancelled but beach events were run. Well done to our Juniors who took out the Branch award for the season. Club Champs A massive thank you to Noni Collins for organising, advertising and running the club champs for U15- Masters. Though the numbers were only small, a great time was had by all. The introduction of the Golden Sands award added to the fun and camaraderie with the U15 Girls taking out this season’s trophy! Thank you and we look forward to a strong and competitive 2019/2020 season. Leanne Hatherly Competition Manager

Club Captain’s Report The season started with many opportunities for members to gain their proficiencies early thanks to the work of CTO, Phil Hua and his team of delegates. We started out with a few gaps in our patrol rosters, but with the Bronze course underway it wasn’t long before we had full strength across the board. The patrol captains were very proactive in getting their members to complete courses such as Advanced Resuscitation to strengthen their teams. A lot of work occurred in previous years and continued into this season to ensure that each patrol team has enough awards to make it easier to find subs when required. We created a 12th patrol, thanks to Melinda Cockshutt for putting up her hand to be a new patrol captain. This eased the pressure across the season and allowed more flexibility in the roster. Thanks also to Phil Hua, Rex O’Rourke and Emily Davidson for putting up their hands to be patrol captains this season. Christmas and Boxing Day volunteer patrols turned out to be a success and one I would hope we can continue. It allowed for those who were in town and available to put up their hand rather than 4 patrol teams all searching for subs. Thank you to all who volunteered their time on the beach over this period. Stats for the Season

• 25000 visitors to the beach • 4780 hours patrolled • 1260 preventative actions • 8 rescues • 1 lost child

Every person who pulled on the patrol quarter cap deserves a thank you for their role in keeping our beach safe this season. Taking over as Club Captain was a bit daunting for me but made so much easier due to the people who put up their hand to help. I owe a big thankyou to these people for helping me throughout the season.

• Vanessa, for being Vice Club Captain and helping to put the roster together • Noni for her work as First Aid officer and also as Official at Club Champs and organised the

fun for the final round. • Hughie and his team for running the Club Swim week in and week out • Leanne for being official at Club Champs but also for being a sounding board and always

lending a hand for anything required. • Every Driver in the club for the commitment to ensure we have the beach covered each and

every patrol. We put a lot of pressure on our team of drivers and they continually show up and get the job done.

• Every crew person and every person who has put on the patrol cap and done their bit to keep the beach safe this season.

• Every crew person and every person who has put on the patrol cap and done their bit to keep the beach safe this season.

One statistic that I am particularly happy with is the number of members who achieved 100% patrol attendance. This season we worked with the patrol captains to be proactive about knowing who would be on the beach for their shifts ahead of time. This is a true testament to the cohesive team environment that has been cultivated over the last few seasons. Over the last few seasons we have awarded those who have completed over 100 hours and over 70 hours throughout the season. This year there is one person who achieved this. Again, this shows that more club members are doing their bit to support patrols and therefore we are not relying on a handful of people to do enormous hours across the season. Congratulations and thankyou to Tony Wright as Award member for 70+ Hours. A special thanks and recognition goes to Danny Suitor. Aside from being a great patrol captain and ensuring his team held the right awards and building to get SRC’s to Bronze, Danny took on the role to support the club with maintaining IRB’s and also ensuring that there was Driver and Crew training accessible for all who required it. So thanks Danny for your personal support to me as Club Captain and to the support you supply across the club in a range of activities. Thanks all for a great season and here’s to a successful 2019-2020 season on the beach. Dione Edwards Club Captain

JASC Nippers Report – 2018/19 Well, the 2018-19 season has come to a close, and the Port Macquarie SLSC Nippers are branch champions once again!!! This has been a continuous effort from all involved in the club and an excellent achievement from all our nippers and age managers. What a great season the junior activities members have had. Although conditions didn’t favour us this season, every training day, carnival, function, gathering and event saw our members enjoying every minute. Upon reflection, the year has been filled with laughter, dedication and involvement. Every Sunday, Flynn’s beach was awash with hundreds of nippers and their parents and carers all working towards one goal; developing new skills to ensure everyone’s safety on the beach. This season saw a renewed focus on surf education as we developed our Age Assistant training and development program which will continue into the upcoming season. We would like to thank Doug Hawkins from Coogee SLSC for his guidance and mentoring in this program, which proved to be highly successful. The season commenced with registration days and saw a large number of families returning and new families beginning their nippers’ journey. Registration numbers were still solid with 258 registered nippers, all of whom are future surf lifesavers, which is great for our club.

The season commenced with registration days and saw a large number of families returning and new families beginning their nippers’ journey. Registration numbers were still solid with 258 registered nippers, all of whom are future surf lifesavers, which is great for our club.

Following on from the Junior Activities Committees decision to focus on skill-based training and a board hire program, we have seen firsthand the excellent results that have come in. Our nippers program incorporated skills-based training days featuring dedicated trainers for the different activities; board, swim, flags and sprints as well as a strong focus on surf education, knowledge and skills. The Board Hire Program will again be available this season. Our club has many new and used boards that were hired out to nippers for the season. This was an overwhelming success and we are striving to improve the program even further into the upcoming season. The revenue raised through this program will be used to update existing equipment and give our nippers the best possible chance to be able to train and compete on new boards. The beach conditions were favourable for some of the year but this year saw the most interrupted program we have had in many years. We were not able to complete all scheduled events, including the club championships and the branch carnivals. Our last training day farewelled the under 14’s, which were once again nearly our biggest group to date. We wish them well in their progression to the senior ranks of the surf club. Club championship events were held over 2 days with some very pleasing results. From the start of the season, the club showed dominance with excellent efforts at the carnival at Camden Haven. Despite this carnival being limited to water events only and rather unfavourable water conditions at that, our nippers performed very well. The branch carnival at Flynns beach had to be cancelled as was the planned water events day to be held to Tacking Point. The overall champions were then determined off of the events that had been held.

In December several nippers were selected to compete in the Interbranch team.

This season’s results were:

Water Events Under 12 Lily Barlow swim 10th, board 16th, ironman 14th Under 13 Harry Askew swim 6th, board 8th, ironman 4th. Ben Hamel swim 13th, board 13th, ironman 13th Andie McGrath swim 15th, board 10th, ironman 12th Angele Field swim 16th, board 16th, ironman 14th Under 15 Alani Cockshutt swim 19th, board 19th, ironman 17th Sophie Oakeshott swim 16th, board 18th, ironman 17th Beach Events Under 14 Fleur Sherlock sprint 5th, flags 3rd Under 12 – Under 14 Relay 8th

Our Junior Lifesaver of the Year (JLOTY) club winners were Laura Reynolds and Tobey Suitor. They represented us well at the Branch level. A powerful team of over 90 nippers and their families travelled north to Cudgen in February for the NSW Country Championships. Country Champs as they are known was in a similar format to the last few years being held over two days of competition, outside of school holidays. The results from country champs were outstanding! PMSLSC finished 6th overall as a club. This was a great trip away, and there are too many achievements to list. All age groups featured in a large medal haul with the younger age groups certainly showing that this great club has a great future. Nippers takes great pride in developing not just the beach skills of our kids, but also the development of the kids as young leaders. To assist this, our under 12 and 13 nippers attended another highly successful Branch Junior Leadership Camp and some under 14s participated at a Youth Development Camp. Families are encouraged to include their children in these programs for their own personal development. A number of our nippers attended the State titles in March at Swansea/Belmont. The state team were presented with State Titles club backpacks for the event. All nippers performed admirably, our individuals and teams had terrific results reaching both the semis and finals, which is a fantastic result considering the talent across the State. Throughout the season, nippers and their families participated in many fund-raising and community events. These included selling snow cones at training days and a BBQ at Sovereign Hills. A large group of Nippers participated in the Christmas street parade to celebrate the lighting of the town Christmas tree. This season saw beach education focused on, specifically with Amanda Higgerson taking a leadership role in this area. 12 nippers from the U11 group became qualified exponents of CPR over a two day resuscitation course and many U14 nippers completed their SRC over a condensed program. These will be offered again in the upcoming season and nippers and parents are strongly encouraged to get involved. The nipper program does not function without a large number of people making a contribution. To list every individual who assists is not possible. However, it would be remiss of us not to acknowledge the efforts of our trainers; Larry Brook and Mel Cockshutt. These coaches give freely of their time to ensure the kids have the chance to develop and hone their skills throughout the season – thank you. Our presentation day was, once again, a huge success. The awards presented on this day is an excellent reflection on the achievements of all our nippers. It was great to see our life members in attendance presenting awards to the future legends of our surf club. Our AGM was held on completion where I was honoured to be elected into the Junior Activities Chairperson position. I look

forward to working again with our Junior Activities Committee, our age managers and nipper families to continue the success of our club. We are developing our “Young Lifesavers of the Future”. In addition, a big thank you to the following groups of helpers who have made the season tick over without too many hitches: members of the Junior Activities Sub-Committee; the ever-vigilant water safety team and Beach Superintendent, David McGrath, the IRB crews; all the age managers; the competition officials; the gear stewards and their helpers; the parents and carers who assist at the sign-on desk; any parent or carer who has been on the beach early to help set-up; any parent or carer who has helped pack-up the beach; any parent or carer who has helped with the Christmas party or Presentation Day; and finally and most importantly, the nippers - thank you, kids, for your commitment. Junior activities are the lifeblood of the club. Patrol numbers rely heavily on nippers, cadets who have graduated from the nipper program, and current and former nipper parents. Our club president Bill Amy and the senior committee have been great supporters of junior activities, and we thank them for their support. With the upcoming season fast approaching we see some changes on the Junior Activities Sub Committee. David McGrath will once again give up his time as Beach Superintendent, a vital role which we sincerely thank him for. Danny Suitor will become Vice-Chairperson after his two-term tenure as JAC. Ange Chapman, Leanne Hatherly, Monique Suitor, Ginette Kobelke and Lance Harris will fill our hard-working committee positions along with Mel Cockshutt as Development Coach and Amanda Higgerson as Junior Education officer. Matt Maloney begins his time as Gear Steward, and it will undoubtedly be a different nipper cage without the presence of Nev Collins. Most of our age mangers are continuing into the 2019-2020 season however there are a few places to fill especially given the size of many of our groups and the proven success of having two age managers allocated to a group. As we reflect on the highlights of the season, it is essential to look ahead continually. The success of our Nippers program relies simply on the number of parents and carers willing to make a contribution. No matter how big or small that contribution may be, we can all feel involved. With these changes to our committee and the continued focus on surf education in mind, we continually need to renew and recruit people who are prepared to put their hands up to help out. This is vital as families’ progress through the age groups to identify members prepared to take on a role that will ensure the program remains healthy for our nippers. Junior Activities Chairperson Karl Morris

Boat Rowers Report Many new faces were in the ‘Norm Morgan’ surf boat throughout the 2018/19 season. Miranda Hudson, John Logie, Phil Marchingo and Ryan Lindon all participated in multiple training sessions, with Miranda, Phil and John going on to compete with the other boaties in various carnivals. With the support of trained reserves, both of the Port Crews were able to compete in every carnival of the boatie season. This season saw some excellent results for Rick’s Chicks, with some solid efforts put in by Rick’s Dicks. Rick’s Chicks, comprising of Sonja Crossingham, Meredith Paterno, Nikki Stafford, Miranda Hudson and Kylie Rosenbaum, with Rick Rolff as sweep, received podium finishes for all of their races throughout the 8 rounds of the North Coast Boat Series. The men’s crew, comprising of Alex Stapleton, Mark Strachan, Gareth Davies, John Logie, Rob Lyttle and Phil Marchingo, with Rick Rolff as sweep also, started the season strong before the Christmas break but saw conditions test their skills and timing for the remainder of the series. During the 8 rounds of the North Coast Boat Series (NCBS), the teams travelled up and down the coast, to Woolgoolga, Minnie Water, Scotts Head, Old Bar, Bonny Hills and Coffs Harbour. Rounds 7 and 8 produced the most challenging conditions, both in and out of the boat. Rick suffered a season ending shoulder injury during warm up of Round 7 at Bonny Hills, which saw Wayne Gill (Gillie) from Wauchope-Bonny Hills SLSC, step up to sweep for the Port crews. Furthermore, Sonja was badly injured when she was sandwiched between 2 surf boats colliding on shore. Fortunately, Suzie Bell, also from Wauchope-Bonny Hills SLSC, showed no hesitation in jumping in the Port boat to give them a strong finish. At the end of season ‘NCBS presentation’, the men’s crew received a 3rd place and the women’s crew received 2nd place (both in the 160’s division). This combined effort saw the PMSLSC receive an overall 5th place in the series. A massive thank you to Gillie, for not only managing to squeeze into his exquisite ‘Pamela Anderson one-piece swimmers’ whilst sweeping in the final round, but also for training and accompanying us to the presentation evening and embracing the team in Rick’s absence. The strong women’s results in the NCBS were further complemented in February by a silver medal at Country Titles, in Cudgen. The men’s team secured 4th place amongst strong competition. This was a fabulous weekend for the boaties, with a retro shack by the sea creating the perfect base for their time in Cudgen. Strawney’s supreme culinary efforts created a delectable feast, which was the perfect meal to share as a team after a hard day of rowing. With training remaining consistent for the girls, they were able to put in a strong performance at State Titles at Blacksmiths Beach and come away with a Gold medal. Although Rick was nursing a shoulder injury and faced with gale force winds, he still managed to get the girls crew around the can three times. His team comprised of Kylie, Miranda, Meredith and Sonja, with Nikki ruled out with injury. This is the first Gold medal for Rick’s Chicks at a State Level of competition. They look forward to having their names emblazoned, in traditional gold foiling, on the ‘State medal winners’ honour board in the PMSLSC clubhouse. These stellar results would not be possible without Rick’s countless hours spent coaching, his dedication to training and the continual development of strong team morale and camaraderie. As a result of Rick’s efforts, friendships were strengthened through carnivals of never ending laughter, and great memories were made, for which we are all grateful. We look forward to presenting a strong and refreshed team in the 2019/20 season. Meredith and Kylie
