About Us ....................................................................... 22-24
United Way Supporters,
This has been a transformational year for the United Way of Allen County as the focused efforts to eliminate community
barriers for families that are working hard but struggling to survive have been implemented. The stories that you will read
will prove that change is possible when you bring people and organizations together to develop community solutions.
Being immersed in the daily activities of the United Way and our partner agencies, over these last several months, I have
grown an even greater appreciation and understanding for “Why the United Way.”
Watching the United Way team connect with the partner agencies, I witnessed the belief and advocacy efforts that
Together, United we can have a community where opportunities are available for every child to have a healthy start and
are able to succeed in school; for every family to achieve financial security; and for every person to live a safe, healthy and
fulfilled life. It’s through the United Way that people and resources are brought together to address immediate needs and
seek to find long-term solutions to challenging issues. This is done by listening to the issues, investing in programs and
services, leading community change initiatives, and mobilizing resources and volunteers to help.
On behalf of the Board of Directors, please join us in these efforts for our community. We need you.

Community Transportation Network, a funded partner agency,
provides dependable and efficient transportation so no one is left
behind. CTN recognizes that people sometimes slip into financial
distress due to a variety of reasons, including a physical illness and/
or job loss – which was the case for Marisa and her family. When
Marisa was found unconscious on her floor at home, something was
seriously wrong. Marisa received medical care, but as a result of a lack
of oxygen to her brain she suffers many complications. Now, the width
of Marisa’s wheelchair proves difficult for her husband to manipulate in
and out of their family vehicle. His work schedule prevents him from being
available to drive her to frequent midday healthcare appointments. In their
efficient and friendly manner, CTN transports Marisa to therapy three times
a week in conjunction with her Medicaid eligibility for coverage of medical
expenses. CTN proved to be a dependable service that brought strong
feelings of relief to Marisa’s entire family. However, Medicaid reimbursement
is extremely low and CTN relies on continued support, like United Way
donors, to sponsor trips such as the one Marisa needs three times a week.

Your generosity has given parents, children, teachers and the community of Allen County the help and hope that they need. Thank you for standing up for the education and development of our youngest generation – you have assisted us ineliminating barriers that arefacing families that are workinghard but struggling to survive. To empower our leaders oftomorrow, we must give themthe necessary tools today and
encourage change, one way to do this is through quality early childhood education.
Paths to quality gives the children of Indiana a chance to receive better care from better-trained providers that offer safe environments, proper adult/child ratios, and planned activities to support learning. Through 2018/2019 United Way of Allen County was able to disperse $20,000.00 to nine providers to assist in improving the level of quality that each child care provider holds.
Your financial partnership made this possible. United Way of Allen County enhances early childhood development with these funds and continues to empower our next generation of game-changers. Thank you for being invested in the education of our children.
UNITED we win. United, we can find a way.

ABOUT US
United Way of Allen County’s footprint is a vital part of our approach to transforming our community. There are four strategic channels that advance our impact: advocacy, volunteerism, collaborative initiatives, and agency investments. Our work is focused on a generational approach in the four impact areas of childhood success, youth success, adult success, and safety net services. We are identifying and working toward eliminating the social dilemmas facing 24 percent of households in our community that make an
STRATEGIESannual income above the Federal Poverty Level but below the basic cost of living in Allen County. This is the population we know as ALICE.With our ear to the ground and our finger on the pulse, we are practicing Turning Outward through ongoing Community Conversations. We are pinpointing the community’s most pressing needs as we listen and you tell us. We don’t just distribute dollars—we unite local organizations to develop holistic strategies and make smart, outcome-driven investments in our county, for its residents.
