The season of 2016 is certainly one to remember. 25 teams represented the Keilor football club every weekend.

Including an additional U/8 and the introduction of U/15 girls. 14 junior teams played finals of which 5 made grand finals

resulting in 3 premierships.

The Keilor Football Club senior teams excelled in every aspect on and off the field. 4 of the 5 teams played in grand finals

resulting in premierships for both the seniors and reserves. Congratulations to all who were involved.

Auskick

Friday nights have been extremely successful for the Auskick group with 227 registered kids it is a great indication of a

healthy junior program for years to come. Congratulations to Billy Allwood and all the Auskick coaches on a fantastic

season. Billy Allwood has been nominated for the State Auskick award after winning the northwest region.

Juniors

Congratulations to Andrew McDonald and all the year level coordinators, coaches and volunteers. 2016 has been

another success with 93% of juniors playing finals. Another highlight of our junior program is the number of junior

players coming from other clubs to join the professionalism and culture of the Keilor juniors.

Sponsorship

Returning sponsors is always a good sign of a healthy club. Sam Barbuto and Shaun Morris worked extremely hard all

year to secure new sponsors and engage with existing sponsors. I would like to thank all our sponsors for their financial

support and commitment to the Keilor Football Club making our great club even better.

House and Social

2016 produced a very full calendar of incredibly successful functions with the highlights being the ladies lunch and the

business lunch. The canteens at Keilor and Green Gully both produced great profits and excellent service. Thursday night

meals have increased in popularity and the Keilor Football Club had record attendants on some of the team selection

nights. The success of all the house and social functions is a credit to Anne-Maree Kliman, Donna Wiffin and Corey Wilks.

Finance

Meticulous, transparent and professional are 3 things that describe Ray Sheridan. Ray has worked extremely hard in

2016 with budgets and financial forecasting. The Keilor Football Club is debt free and has financial stability going into

season 2017.

Senior Football

The Keilor Football Club has become the marquee club of the EDFL with 5 senior teams proudly wearing the red, white

and blue every weekend. To have 4 teams play in grand finals and our U/18 2’s elevated to a higher division is a credit to

Paul Barbuto, Shaun Morris, Hannah Wilson, Marita Tobin and our senior football administration. Premiership success in

our seniors and reserves teams is the highlight of season 2016.

Professionalism, strength and commitment is what Mick McGuane and Joel Logan bring on match day and full credit

goes to these two outstanding individuals and the match day support staff.

KFC Achievements

Nick O’Kearney has joined the elite AFL ranks along with 8 other KFC juniors currently on AFL lists. Congratulations to

Nick on his well decorated career so far. We all look forward to seeing him on the big stage in the near future. Expansion

of the female football department has been another highlight of 2016. We now have 3 teams and an all females Auskick

and we will expand into open age female football in 2017.

Thank you

In my second year as president at the Keilor Football Club I could not be prouder of the executive committee and all that

has been achieved. We started as a committee but have developed into great friends. To have the support of Craig Hill

as secretary, Anne-Maree Kliman and Shaun Morris as vice presidents have brought a new level of professionalism and

fun in to our volunteer group.

Special thanks to our football operator’s team lead by Paul Barbuto and Andrew McDonald for creating a culture that

has taken Keilor Football Club to a new level.

Ray Sheridan and Sam Barbuto’s support and peace of mind by creating financial stability is credit to both of these true

professionals.

Volunteers, players, coaches, support staff and sponsors are the heartbeat of the Keilor Football Club. We should all be

very proud of our achievements in season 2016.

Brad Bult

Treasurers Report for Season 2016

To all Executive members and members of the Keilor Football club I present the Annual Treasures report and financials

for 2016 season being from 1 Oct 2015 to 30 September 2016.

I would like to thank the committee and everyone associated with the Keilor Football Club for their support in my role as

Treasurer of the Keilor Football Club.

This season as a club we have been successful both on and off the field, we have been able to fully pay off the debt that

was owed from previous years nearly 4 months ahead schedule.

Season 2016 has seen the club generate a profit of $11,880.38 which is down from last years $23,846.37, which is still a

fantastic result.

Planning for next season has started and budgets are well underway, with the introduction of the salary cap next season

this will bring along its own set of issues that we will need to deal with. Exec still has some tough financial decisions to

make and is preparing a strategy to enable the continued level of spending reduction to continue.

On personal note I’d like to thank Maz Long, Marita Tobin and Gareth Hunt who helped and supported me throughout

the year and off course all the others who have also assisted me

Thankyou

Ray Sheridan

Our club relationship remains very strong with the Brimbank City Council, which as always they assisted with ground

management of both Keilor Reserve and Green Gully Reserve Oval, especially during the pre season period. With the

Council assistance, across the Seniors and Junior side of the club, pre season was at venues including Keilor Oval, Green

Gully Reserve, Keilor Park Ovals and Overnewton Senior Campus.

Again this year we played junior Football at Green Gully as our 2nd ground with all junior teams playing at Green Gully

during the year as well as Keilor Reserve. The Thirds & U18 Div 2 also played some home games at Green Gully.

Thank you to Andrew McDonald, along with all the junior coaches and co-ordinators for working together again to

continue to make Green Gully work, as it ultimately helps protect our surface at Keilor and will continue to be an asset in

the future.

Our relationship with the EDFL continues to be a strong working relationship, with strong dialog as required between the

EDFL and our Football Club. We again benefited from the strong working relationship with the ability for the Keilor

Football club to again host Junior Grand Finals and Senior Semi Finals, Preliminary Finals and the Thirds Grand Final, with

positive feedback on how successful hosting these finals went again in 2016

To Brad and the Committee, thank you for an excellent year. A solid working committee that worked together very

successfully again, which helped produce excellent results off and on the field.

Season 2016 will be remembered as one of the most successful and enjoyable in the history of the Keilor Football Club. To secure both an A Grade and Reserves Grade premiership in the same year is just reward for our club as we conduct ourselves to the highest level of ethical standards and sporting professionalism. I have no doubt that most of our supporters are still walking around with broad grins on their faces and their chests puffed out full of pride because of what we collectively achieved this year. I hope that they continue to enjoy our victories for many more weeks to come. In total 4 of the 5 teams in the senior section of our club made grand finals, which is a fantastic result. Whilst our Under 18 Premier Division and our Open Age Thirds sides where both beaten in their respective Grand Finals they are also to be commended on their great seasons. Our second Under 18’s team was treated very poorly from a grading perspective and as such was on the wrong end of the win/loss ratio count. However, the importance of this team should not be underestimated as without it I do not believe that our Under 18 Premier Division team would be anywhere near as strong as it currently is. As such I would like single out Rob Davis for taking on what I regard as being the most difficult coaching job in the club. Your effort this year, under the most challenging of circumstances, is greatly appreciated. To all the support staff within the Football Operations Department I say thank you for your tireless individual and collective efforts throughout the year. I will not mention individual names in the fear that I will miss someone out. I am sure that each and every one of you derived as much satisfaction as I did in celebrating the successes that the club achieved this year. Season 2017 is just around the corner and I assure all members that planning has already commenced to ensure that the Keilor Football Club remains a competitive force within the EDFL. Next year will also see the introduction of the Salary Cap within the league. This Salary Cap, coupled with the Player Points System, will force clubs to become more strategic with their junior development and their recruiting into the future. The Keilor Football Club is a strong supporter of both the Salary Cap and the Player Points System that have been initiated by AFL Victoria. As a club we are totally committed to abiding by their requirements in full as we genuinely believe that they are in the best interests of football in overall terms. In closing I would like to thank the President and Executive of the Keilor Football Club for the support and camaraderie that we have shared during the past season. I have thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it.

Respectfully yours,

Paul Barbuto

Junior Report

Registration indicated a very positive start the season. Growth in U8s and U10s was very clear with U16s continuing to

attract an influx of maturing juniors due to our strong reputation and previous record with AFL drafting. The female

football program grew further as we added an U15 side to the list making Keilor the only club in the EDFL / WRFL that

fielded a side in each of the three girls competitions (U12s, U15s & U18s) . The only level that declined in 2016 was the

U14s, this is as a result of the recruitment shortfall from four years ago that is starting to follow through to this age level.

Likewise the U12s were relatively low on number’s, however Steven Long had worked hard to grow the numbers in this

group, enough so to field 3 teams when by rights we should be fielding 2 based on previous years. Overall the year was

successful in terms of increased participation with just over 10% increase in players (39) compared to 2015.

In terms of another indicator, finals participation, we also were very successful with 14 of the 16 teams competing in finals

with the number of junior flags result in 3. This is all a positive result for club as the EDFL grading system continues to

evolve and we continue to adapt in a more competitive environment. There were a couple of teams this year were just

graded in the wrong grade, however all teams won a minimum of 4 games which is a positive outcome.

All players were again kitted out with a training shirt in 2016, which remain very popular in addition to a bumper sticker.

Instead of investing resources into a football each as we did in 2015, the club decided to invest in footballs for Coaches

kits. The primary reason for this was that balls were not brought to training in 2015 and by investing in the balls to be

provided to coaches kits, this ensured adequate numbers of balls on hand at training

As we are an entity that is heavily reliant on volunteers, we need to ensure that they are all duly thanked. From a Junior

perspective it requires up to 15 people to volunteer for an away game and up to 21 for a home game when you add

canteen. A massive “thank you” to all the volunteers. The amount of input from the families makes a significant difference

at Keilor and is a part the reason that our club so great. To the core volunteers, those being runners, assistant coaches

and especially the trainers, thank you all so much for your extra efforts. To some of those other people who while also

completing weekly match day duties, also worked behind the scenes.

In 2016 we implemented a Lead Coach Structure where the Division 1 Coach not only has responsibility for their own side

, but also the entire age group and other coaches in a kind of mentor capacity. Thanks to the lead coaches in 2016 that

followed through on this commitment. Billy Allwood (U8s), Mick McGuane (U10s), Steven Long (U12s), Rob Stafrace (U14s)

and Carl Taylor(U16s) . The Girls coaches although in different age groups also trained at the same time and coaches

shared training and interaction. Thanks to all the coaches, you have all done an amazing job to develop the players in

skills and attitude. The amount of time that you all put in both on and off the field is outstanding. I am sure that I speak

for all parents and thank you all so much for your work.

Team Managers - I am sure that all families echo my thanks for the work that you all completed from stating with unknown

team lists through to one of the most difficult tasks, gathering coaches comments post season.

Co-ordinators – I would like to thank you all for your work throughout the year, the hectic time of sorting teams at the

start of the season and through out by supporting Team Managers to keeping the peace.

I would just like to repeat that the level of involvement we have from families in a volunteer capacity is something that

really sets Keilor Football Club apart. Thanks for supporting your children.

Moving forward into 2017, we are excited about the Junior programs at Keilor and the strength of our club moving

forward. With our side by side work with the Billy Allwood and the Auskick team, the club is poised for further growth

and strengthening from the very strong roots we have developed at the Under 8s & Under 10s over the past two years. It

is imperative that we continue to develop these segments and girls football of the junior program at Keilor to remain a

strong and relevant club for years to come.

2017 will also see the EDFL change from the current “even number” age groups to the “odd number” age groups. So

instead of U8s, U10s, U12s, U14s & U16s, 2017 will see the equivalent being U9s, U11s, U13s, U15s, U17s. The girl’s

programs will remain as U12s, U15s and U18s. It is exciting to also add to female football our first Senior Women’s team

in 2017.

Female Football

2016 was the third year that Keilor Football Club was involved in running Female teams in the EDFL. Keilor Football Club

has consolidated its achievements in this field and has further established its self as the leading female football clubs in

the EDFL adding U15s to our teams and becoming the only EDFL / WRFL club to field a side in all three junior girl’s

competitions, U12s, U15s & U18s. The girl’s competitions in 2016 were combined leagues with Western Region Football

League.

Our U13s Girls from 2015 effectively split into two sides as the competition grew to have both U12s and U15s. This was a

positive evolution that suited Keilor as we had very positive growth through our U13s in 2015.

The U12 girls had great season led by David Busuttil as the coach. The Girls won 8 of their 14 games and end up second

on the ladder. The had strong opposition from Aberfeldie who has some over aged permit player permitted by the league

due to the “start up” status of that club and the competition. They also had close struggles with Doutta Stars who ended

up third in the competition. In the end, the U12s girls lost to Doutta Stars in the Preliminary final.

The U15 girls in their first year also proved to be very competitive under the leadership of Warren Grunden. The

completed the season without dropping a game winning 12 of their 13 games and having one exciting draw against

Spotswood in round 6. They came up against the same team in the Grand Final and at the end of normal time , the scores

were again level. Unfortunately, they lost the Grand Final by two points. The girls should be very proud of what they

achieved as the minor premiers and grand final runners up.

The U18 girls continued with their momentum as our successful inaugural girl’s team as they headed into 2016. Led again

by Bernie Williams, the girls had a fantastic season and ended up on top of the ladder with a 13 & 1 record. They tied on

points with Sunbury Lions but were ahead on percentage to take out the minor premiership. The Girls competed well in

finals, but were over run by Melbourne Uni in the preliminary final.

Off the field – there needs to be a significant acknowledgement to the Warren Grunden in particular who has really

instigated both girl’s programs and also Coached the Under 15 girls this year.

Thank you also to Carolyn Saddler as the Coordinator for Girls Football in 2016

Under 8s

The Under 8s program grew from our inaugural 3 teams last year with 32 player2, up to 4 teams with 42 players. This

continues to be a positive pathway to bridge the gap from the upper ages of Auskick to the lower ages of competitive

football.

In 2016 we named the teams after our 4 draft picks from 2014: Ellis , Laverde, Cavka & Ahern. This was a positive initiative

providing a bridge to the club and future for these first time wearers of the club colours. It was also great to have Damian

Cavka and Jason Laverde attend the Under 8s presentation evening and present the participation medals.

The program also presents as a great avenue for potential coaches to ease their way into coaching for juniors in the future.

It was great to have Billy Allwood lead the coaches that included Merryn Auld, Alex Adrianopoulos and Troy Kerry this

year,

In 2017 the majority of the kids will remain in the same program as it switches to be Under 9s. There will be some minor

enhancement to the rules next year, one of which is a “standing tackle” that will be allowed. This will hopefully provided

enough enjoyment to keep the 9s engaged in 2017. Although there will continue to be no official scoring and ladders,

each team player knows the results each week.

To all the parents of U8s and especially the Team Managers - the group ran extremely well and this is due to the effort of

you all.

In 2017, although known as Under 9s, we could possibly have 6 teams or 8 teams due to the numbers coming through

Under 10s

It was exciting to see the Under 10s representation in the EDFL back to 4 teams, after shrinking to 2 teams in 2014 and

rebuilding to 3 in 2015, we are back to were we need to be with 4 teams in 2016 – very exciting times ahead as we near

full strength. With 86 players in 2016, the results across the board were evident. 3 of our 4 Under 10 sides played in Grand

Finals with 2 of them winning flags. In competition that is getting harder to win flags – the writing is on the wall for a very

positive future at Keilor. We are back on track!

The first team was well led by Mick McGuane who had an eye opening introduction to his career as a coach in Junior

football with a 73 point to nothing loss against Strathmore. What had Mick got himself into. But to the credit of the boys

– their season only went forward. On the next encounter with Strathmore mid season they drew and then in the 2nd semi

while looking out of the game and 21 points behind at ¾ time, they came back and won by 4 points with seconds to spare.

Then into the Grand Final and for the 4th time in the season facing Strathmore – another nail biter and a 7 point win to

take out the flag

Bobby Devic led the 2nd side into the Division 4 season and after a tough start to the season started to find some form

and the boys started to get some wins. The boys did well to end the season with 7 wins & 7 losses and scraping into the

finals in 5th spot on the ladder. The finals campaign really was extraordinary with the boys lifting and beating Aberfeldie

(4th), Tullamarine (3rd) and Moonee Valley (2nd) three weeks in a row to secure a place in the Grand Final against the

minor premiers East Keilor. Unfortunately, just came up short in the Grand Final, however, it was a monumental

achievement to come from 5th to get into the Grand Final – amazing !

The third side led by Jack Camelliri started the season in Division 6, but were regraded to Division 7. Over the season, the

team ended up winning 4 games with a few towards the end of the season. It was a tough year for this team with many

first year 10s coming up from Under 8s. The boys persisted through some tough times to end up with 4 wins and build

some resilience to take into 2017. Well done team in a tough year.

The fourth side led by Darren Brennan had a good year in Division 8. They encountered a couple of losses mid year, but

regrouped to see the end of the year out on a positive note by securing the minor premiership. They then won convincingly

in the first week of the finals to secure a week off and met Coburg /Keilor Park in the Grand Final and walked away with a

Premiership after a 7 point win. Well done 10/8s !

Under 12s (by Steven Long - Lead Coach)

The 2016 season loomed large as a critical juncture for our Under 12 group. With kids born in 2004 and 2005 coming together (once again), our very low player numbers and depth (at this age group) presented the club with its toughest challenge in 2016, especially considering the EDFL's anticipated move to odd age groups in 2017. With only 51 eligible players on the books, the pre-season was hectic as we pushed to recruit enough new players to field 3 teams. Over the course of 5 months we promoted Keilor u12's with flyers on Facebook and our website, in local school and cricket newsletters, as well as an active online video campaign - starring the kids of course !! We also held our first ever YMCA Adventure Race Day (in Bacchus Marsh), along with a Bring a Friend night as well. Impressively we recruited 14 new players, but unfortunately we also lost 8, so we arrived at the start of the 2016 season with 57 players, and an incredibly tough ask to field 3 teams (with 18, 19, and 20 players respectively). So we kicked off the year hopeful that the fixture would allow top up players from under 10's and under 12 girls, but amidst all the operational complexity that ensued, the one overwhelming positive would be that every available Under 12 players would be virtually playing a full game of footy every single week. With only 18 players, our first Under 12 side commenced the year in Division 2 under coach Steven Long. With a good mix of height and talent, we were confident of fighting our way back into Division 1, and after 4 grading games, we had 3 good wins and sat 3rd on the Division 2 ladder. Despite this, the EDFL re-graded us up to Division 1 anyway (along with the top side Burnside Heights), which was both a strong endorsement of our progress as a club, and a tremendous achievement for this group of kids (who had been pushed down in 2014). Despite the scoreboard (on occasion), it was pleasing to play in genuinely competitive games most weeks in Division 1. We had to fight tooth and nail to make the finals, but ultimately we secured 5th spot on the ladder, and then proceeded to knock off Aberfeldie and Greenvale (who both have 4x u12 teams) in successive finals. In the end we were stopped by Marby Park in the preliminary final, but to start the year in Division 2 and finish the year one win away from a Grand Final in Division 1, far exceeded any expectations for the year. With 19 players, our second Under 12 side commenced in Division 5 under first-time coach Jamie Orlikowski. It was a little unexpected, but the boys were too strong for their opposition, and quickly moved up to Division 4. In an extremely even competition, the boys were involved in close matches almost every week. At end of the year, we finished 3rd on the ladder, played in 3 finals (winning 1), before being knocked out in the preliminary final. A fantastic effort all round. With 20 players, our third Under 12 side played in Division 6 under first-time coach Johnny Vuk. With only 6 teams in the division, and some very strong opposition, our boys had an uphill battle most weeks, and the scoreboard favoured our opposition more often than not. With mostly bottom age and first year players, our boys fought the season out well and finished with 5 wins including an awesome victory against Coburg Districts in the final round.

Thanks to player numbers and week-to-week logistics, it was a very challenging year off the field. When all things are considered though, the 2016 season was an outstanding success for Under 12’s. Given the EDFL’s move to odd age groups in 2017, kids born in 2004 and 2005 will remain together in Under 13’s. As such, we are very confident that we’ve laid a great foundation for this group of kids and significantly changed their future and prospects. In closing, we couldn’t have done it without the support of our under 12 officials and families, and crucially our top up players as well. Most importantly though, I will thank Vanessa Nappi and Andrew McDonald, who’s support and trust over the last 12 months has been nothing short of amazing. Thanks, Steven Long (u12 Lead Coach)

Under 14s

Our Under 14s group was the one age bracket that dropped a team compared to 2015. After a slow uptake of player early

in the season and calculating the number of injuries and struggle to fill 4 sides in 2015, the decision was to stick with 3 x

capacity teams and a slight over subscription. This proved ok for the most part of the year, however we had most players

fit for finals. We commenced the season with 3 full sides.

Rob Stafrace led the Division 1 side and they had a fairly convincing season ending up on top of their ladder with just the

one loss for the season. They were up against the arch rivals Strathmore in the Grand Final and after a tough game, came

home with the flag after a one point win. Well done boys!

Grant Evans led the 2nd side which happened to end up in Division 2 after grading. The side was competitive one week

and not the other – mainly because they were playing many clubs first sides. The boys in this team had an outstanding

year given the quality that they were up against. They ended up 4th on the ladder to make finals however bowed out in

the first week. A great season of development from all involved and surrounding these boys.

The third side had a mixed year with 7 wins and 7 losses to end up 3rd in a division of 6. The boys were beaten by

Greenvale in the Elimination Final, a side that they had managed to beat just a couple of weeks earlier. The boys put in a

great year, most of whom were first year 14s in many cases going up against a lot of 2nd year 14s .

Co-ordinator – Tracey MacKenzie. A big thank you to Tracey who really did well to manage the difficulty / transition from

a lot of families from 12s to 14s.

Under 16s

The Under 16s had great numbers again in 2016. We attract a lot of player at this level, more than 12s & 14s. This is

primarily because of the great reputation we have for developing this age group and the opportunities for rep and a high

level football program. One factor that leads to our detriment on the flip side is the number of TAC Rep players that are

absent for many games.

Carl Taylor lead the Division 1 side and while this group had a very consistent and played to their ability, we did miss the

rep players from time to time. At the end or regular season, we slotted into 3rd slot with a 10 win, 4 loss ratio. We were

well positioned to perform in the final's, however all did just not go our way. The finals did go our way and we lost to

Aberfeldie by 7 points in the 1st Semi Final.

The second side in Division 3 was led by Dave Bentley. This side also had a relatively consistent year end up with 10 & 4

also and 3rd on the ladder. The progressed through to the Preliminary final where they met a Strathmore that was too

strong on the day. They went on to win the Grand Final in a surprise over Hillside. The boys in Division 3 played extremely

well and many players were rotated up to the vacancies in Div 1 on many occasions.

Vic Mazzone entered the ranks of U16s coaching for the first time in 2016 and it was great to observe Vic’s passion and

gentle persuasion with this group of boys. As a result of grading anomalies, they started in Division 5, but were regraded

into division 4. Playing nearly all first and second sides. The side was struck with a few injuries which did not help the

cause. However Vic and the team plugged away week after week ending up 5th on the ladder with 6 & 8 . They got to

the first week of finals and put on a good show, but did not get the win on the day against Strathmore.

It is evident from our 16s program that although we may not necessarily win Grand Finals, but we are developing kids to

get to TAC and also Senior Levels. Just look at the list of

Looking forward to 2017 – next year sees the intro of the odd age groups for all levels except girls football which will

remain as U12s, U15s and U18s. The other competitions will all switch to an odd age group and therefore no players will

be shifting age groups. I would like to stress that it does not mean that all players will stay in their same teams. Like all

years, we want to ensure that the teams are selected and matched to challenge and develop their abilities . So it is a

fresh start for all teams and coaches with essentially the same pool of players in 2017.

Some 2017 Objectives

Under 9s - given that the age group will be static – we will be looking to develop an additional two teams

Under 11s – we want to fill up our U11 ranks with some more players to maximise 24 players per team

Under 12s - recruitment and summer programs launched to build numbers – ideally 3 x full teams that will give depth

Under 14s – We will definitely have three sides, but if we can get enough – we will see if we can get a 4th up.

Under 16s – we should be able to retain three 3 U16s sides – with the numbers on rep duties, this will be ideal.

Girls Football – no new girl’s teams in 2017, however we are all excited about the Senior Women’s team

A coaching selection panel has already started talking to various coaches and starting to review the appointments for

2017. The positive news was that we had 26 applicants for 20 roles. We have appointed U17s recently and will be

announced shortly, if not already by the time this is printed. U15s, U13s, U11s will also follow.

Retention is our Junior focus to transition into 2017 with the change of age level, we will have to balance new intake with

the need to ensure our existing players are challenged and developed. A bit of a juggle on the horizon in 2017.

Registration Day for Juniors will be Sunday 5th February

One final note, it is a wonderful feeling to be a part of this great club, I am so privileged to work with so many wonderful

volunteers. Thank you for the privilege to serve.

Another busy year for the football club – Online registration is now a way of life and the introduction of personal emails

as the entry point is still evolving. Online payment continued to grow for player fees – From 2017 payment can also be

made directly from bank accounts as well as by credit card at time of reregistration. The club Eftpos facility has been

huge assistance with fee collection and merchandise sales.

Our club numbers were as follows - Under 8’s extended to 4 teams with 43 players, U10 – 86 players, U12 – 58 players

(this group will go through as a low number), U14 –were down slightly to 74 players and U16 – 81 players. With the

change to uneven numbers for the junior age groups our numbers should remain constant focusing on extra numbers

for the U13 group.

Our girls continued to bloom with the new U12G having 21 girls, U15G – 21 and the U18 Youth girls 23. With the

creation of the Women’s senior team for 2017 the girls now have a complete path within our own club.

The U18’s had 56 registered players however between injuries and TAC commitments that total number belies the

availability each week. The Senior registration of 79 is similar to U18 in that the Thirds sometimes struggled for numbers

however with good results in all areas the numbers should remain constant for 2017.

In my role with senior merchandise I was involved with the introduction for the senior team to playing a heritage round

against Maribyrnong Park. The introduction of our heritage jumpers was a great success for which I was very proud to be

associated with – great initiative of Brad and the Executive.

All up for 2016 there were 542 registered players and 154 registered officials (coaches, trainers and team support)

ensuring that another busy year was had by the Registrar. I wish to thank Brad and the Executive for their continued

support.

What a Year!

2016 will be one to remember.

Winning the seniors and reserve premierships in such a competitive competition is just a wonderful achievement. It just

proves there is a “need” to be patient.

Our list strategy over the previous 4 years by bringing in talented 20+ year olds held us in a very strong position for an

assault on this year’s premiership. Our strategy was also about affordability and sustainability. Our model works.

The executive of our club has provided a clear direction for the football department and our players. Brad Bult and his

team have been strong, united and have a long term vision for our club. Community connection is important. We pride

ourselves on this aspect.

On field, our senior listed players were superb. Irrespective of which team our players played in, we as coaches are so

proud of them.

To make us united, strong, selfless and above all committed, you need the right people within our four walls. This we

have in abundance.

Our coaches are tireless. They work, they listen, they teach and they serve.

Our trainers and their attitudes to all our players is what makes this club great. John Pace and his team are just

remarkable with the work they do. Our players and coaches respect them enormously.

We played 36 players at senior level in 2016. Players responded well when given an opportunity. Our player depth is

healthy. We can become a victim of our own standards and success. This can also present some headaches. That’s why

younger players need to persist and be patient. We have enormous growth in our list.

In a premiership year we had 5 of our home grown products debut. Zac Wunhym, Zac Antovski, Mitch Eliis, Curtis Taylor

and Michael Pino all had senior experience. Ben Maud, Jay White, Mitchell Newman , Nicholas Guarino, Joshua Esposito

and Mason Thomas also all have growth in their games. Another strong pre-season will hold these future senior players

in a good stead.

Our leaders were strong and reliable. They challenge and get challenged. It’s very healthy. Dylan Joyce, as captain,

provided strong leadership at the pointy end of the season. His ability to build relationships with his teammates

highlights his development as an evolving captain.

Our senior staff in our football department all need a huge pat on the back.

Mark Opar (runner), Shaun Morris (match board), Paul Gluschenko (stats), Elise Selimi (stats assistant) , Ange Ciavarella

(video), Matty Walker (opposition analyst) all provide excellence in their match day duties to help the team deliver.

Paul Barbuto as football operations manager was outstanding. His support and loyalty is significant.

We thank our sponsors and their alliance to one of the biggest clubs in Victoria is clearly appreciated. We need them.

We need to understand it is our responsibility to uphold their core values as well as ours.

Our future is bright.

2017 is a new year and a massive challenge considering we are now the hunted.

We are up for it!

Well what a fantastic introduction to coaching. It was a daunting task taking over a premiership side but to the players

credit this group wanted to succeed and want to be successful.

I’d like to thank Paul Barbuto and Mick McGuane for giving me the opportunity to guide this amazing group of young

men, and to Mick especially as there is no one else a starting out coach would like to learn from.

I’d also like to congratulation Mick and the senior side on their well deserved premiership.

To all the people who helped along the way I thank you, especially Mussy Reeves (Team Manager), Drew Elliott

(Runner), and Evan Long and Brent Ellis, who put their hands up to help out when injuries prevented them from taking

the field. Thanks also to Hannah Wilson & Marita Tobin who made sure that everything ran smoothly during the week

and match days, and to the trainers who cared for the players like they were their own children. You guys are the best in

the business and true supporters who bleed red, white and blue.

To Jay ‘Turtle’ Thorley (Assistant Coach), I would never have taken on the role unless you agreed to stay on board. Your

knowledge of the game, and the way in which you see it makes my job a lot easier. Also, the knowledge and teachings

you provide to these young men will see them improve and hopefully become senior A-Grade players in the future.

To my wife and children thank you for sacrificing your time with me to allow me to do something I have always wanted

to do in coaching.

To the “22 Brothers” who represented our great club on Grand Final day, and to all the other players who got us there, I

will always be grateful for the respect you showed, the effort you always gave, and the care you showed for each other.

It is what makes a great team.

Lastly to my great mate and skipper Kevin Finn. Your teammates walk taller knowing that you are leading them. You

have given absolutely everything in all of your 415 games for this club, and if this is the end of your playing days, (which

we have heard for the last 3 years, so I’m not throwing away your magnet yet) it was an honour and a privilege to stand

and raise the premiership cup with you.

Let’s all stick together and do it again next year.

Many thanks,

First and foremost I'd like to thank the Keilor Football Club for giving coaches, players and officials an opportunity to be a

part of such a successful 2016 campaign for the club on and off the field!

Although there were low numbers at times our the group was able to stay confident and positive at all times and

benefited greatly from training with the senior and reserves sides which was something that they were limited to in

2015.

Having such a great group that were willing to play as a team enabled us to finish third on the ladder at the end of an up

and down season and able this group to participate in a finals campaign! Our first final which was elimination was up

against a strong Aberfeldie side, who had the great Tony Liberatore running around for them. They served it up to us for

a half but in the end we were able to come away with a comfortable victory sending us into another knock out final the

following week v Greenvale at Greenvale which we knew was going to be tough. In that game there was a howling

breeze to one end so we were able to use that to our advantage knowing that it was going to be a game of two halves.

We had some great individual performance that day but the team effort and the spirit in which this group showed was

exceptional helping us to a 5 point victory and into a grand final. Unfortunately, we were unable to match a very strong

Strathmore side in the grand final and lost by a convincing margin but the effort from this group to get there was full of

credit!

Few people I'd like to thank are Marty for being team manager. Rowan, Emma and Bobby for their support as trainers .

Alex Koroneos for being time keeper, Marita for preparing everything for us every week. My two great leaders in

Burnsy and Ryan, along with Simon and Robbie for their input in helping the bench out. Danny O'Callahan and Gaz

Thomas for helping out when they could. Mick, Joel and all the coaching staff at the top for doing what they could when

they could.

Regards, John Wellington

A season from an overall viewpoint was strong with 56 players representing Keilor FC at U18 level in 2016.

Of the 56 players, 39 players played Premier Division U18 football which was pleasing as I believe we did have excellent

depth in our system.

Training numbers were typically solid throughout the year, which was pleasing, with coaching group and players working

together very well for the entire season.

The Home & Away season was very successful with only the one loss coming in Round 18 against eventual premier

Aberfeldie.

Leading into the finals campaign, we were in strong position to challenge Aberfeldie, if we could play the style of football

that the coaching group thought was required for a full four quarters.

After losing the last home & Away game to Aberfeldie, we then lost the first final against them also, sending the group

into a Preliminary Final against Essendon Doutta Stars. We were good enough to find a way to win by 6 points after

being behind at half time & 3 qtr time.

In the Grand Final, we were outstanding in the first quarter, playing the exact style we wanted to play and held a small

lead at quarter time. Unfortunately, from the 2nd quarter onwards, we were unable to continue with same style of play

and Aberfeldie got control of the game and won the game comfortably.

Overall, the season was a success. Making the Grand Final and being part of a day where Keilor FC were in all three

Grand Finals made for a memorable day for our Football club.

The season could not have gone a smoothly without the fantastic support at training and on game days from the

Assistant Coaches in Sam Barbuto, Gary Bonello & Stuart Tatchell. Thank you to the three of you for your commitment

from pre season to Grand Final day.

Lastly, thank you to our Team Manager and my wife Dana. You have done an amazing job as my Team Manager for the

past 7 season and it is credit to your commitment that every year has gone so smoothly. Thank you

Season 2016 has been my most challenging year to date with the club’s second Under 18 team being forced to play in Division 1 by the EDFL. This made for a very long and hard season resulting in only a handful of wins. On field changes and game plans had to be adapted in every game due to injuries and a lack of numbers. To the credit of the boys and our support staff however, we were able to finish the year off in true Keilor style. I thank the Keilor Football Club for the opportunity to further test myself and the players in this role, and I look forward to what next year will bring to Keilor.
