1. INTRODUCTION(!The! trustees! of! Regenerate! have! pleasure! in! presenting! their! report! and! the! audited! financial!statements!of!the!charity!for!the!financial!year!ending!31st!of!August!2015.!!Regenerate! is! a! charity! supported!by! local! churches!and!working! in! the! schools!of! Yate!and!Chipping!Sodbury.! ! Our! mission! is! to! be! an! agent! of! change,! living! out! and! proclaiming! the! good! news,!unconditional! love!and!hope!of!Jesus!Christ! in!order!to!bring!wholeness!to!the!children,!young!people!and!families!in!Yate,!Chipping!Sodbury!and!surrounding!areas.!!!!!(

2. STRUCTURE,(GOVERNANCE(AND(MANAGEMENT(!

Regenerate!became!a!registered!charity!on!the!5th!of!February!2007,!number!1117820.!!!On!13!January!2015,! Regenerate’s! application! to! reconstitute! as! a! Charitable! Incorporated! Organisation! (CIO)! was!approved! by! the! Charity! Commission.! ! As! a! result! a! new! registered! charity! was! formed! (number!1159920)! and! the! previous! unincorporated! charity! dissolved! with! its! assets! transferred! to! the! new!charity.!!The!charity! is!managed!by!a!Board!of!Trustees!who!are!proposed!and!elected!by!the!members!of!the!charity!on!an!annual!basis.!The!membership!consists!of! representatives!of! local! churches! in! the!area.!!Seven! trustees!were! appointed! on! the! establishment! of! the! new!CIO! charity! in! January! 2015,!with! a!further!one!appointed!at!a!Trustees!meeting! in!July!2015,!making!eight!serving!as!of!1st!of!September!2015.!!When!new!trustees!are!appointed,! they!are!provided!with!copies!of! the!constitution,! recent!accounts!and!minutes!and!are!inducted!by!existing!trustees!into!the!affairs!of!the!charity.!!The!Trustees!meet!on!a!regular!basis!to!administer!the!affairs!of!the!charity!and!there!are!no!sub`groups!acting!for!them.!!None!of!the!trustees!benefit!financially!from!the!operations!of!the!charity.!!The!charity!employs!two!part`time!workers:!a!Primary!Schools!Team!Leader,!a!Secondary!Schools!Team!Leader.! ! From! October! 2012! until! the! end! of! August! 2015! Regenerate! also! employed! a! Director!responsible!for!overall!strategy!and!direction,!as!well!as!line!management!of!the!Team!Leaders.!!!!The!trustees!appraise!the!work!of!the!employees!on!an!annual!basis!and!seek!to!provide!support!and!training!to!both!paid!employees!and!volunteers!as!necessary.!!!The!charity!has!a!Child!Protection!Policy!and!all!paid!employees!and!volunteers!are!DBS!checked!and!approved.!!!

3. AIMS,(ACTIVITIES(AND(ACHIEVEMENTS((!The!aims!of!Regenerate!are:!!!

• To!enable!children!and!young!people!to!explore!their!spiritual,!moral!and!emotional!well`being!from!a!Christian!world!view;!

• To!empower!children!and!young!people!to!overcome!obstacles!in!their!lives.!!Over!the!last!financial!year,!the!activities!of!the!charity!have!included!Christian!assemblies!in!nineteen!Primary!Schools!each!term,!small!group`work,! lunchtime!clubs! in!the!three! local!Secondary!Schools!as!well!as!Advent!and!Easter!themed!events!and!support!for!teachers!with!the!RE!curriculum.!!!3.1((( Primary(Schools(Work( We!celebrate!our!continued!engagement!in!19!schools!and!the!terrific!witness!of!the!volunteers!(a!total!of!23!different!individuals!at!different!times!across!the!last!year)!who!take!the!Good!News!of!Jesus!into!these!places,!using!their!skills,!energies!and!time!to!witness!to!their!faith.!(3.1.1((Assemblies(!We! take! 23! assemblies! each! term,! each! individual! to! the! setting:! Infant,! Junior! or! Special,! Urban! or!Rural.! These! are! genuine! acts! of! worship! including! Bible! stories,! testimony,! songs! and! prayers.! !We!always! seek! to! be! interactive,! and! a! lovely! development! in! 2014/5! has! been! in! 5! schools!where! the!children!now!also!prepare!the!prayers!after!an!introduction!to!the!theme.!

!3.1.2(( Advent(Adventure(

!Over!400!Y4!pupils,!from!all!our!Primary!Schools,!attended!these!interactive!and!stimulating!Christmas!programmes,!based!around!different!stations!that!explored!the!story!of!Advent,!in!three!local!churches`!Chipping!Sodbury!Baptist,!St!Nic’s!and!Yate!Methodist.!!These!three!days!demand!lots!of!volunteers!and!lots!of!energy,!but!feedback!from!the!schools!is!extremely!positive.!

3.1.3(( Easter(Experience(!330!Y5!pupils,!from!most!of!our!Primary!Schools,!also!participated!in!quiet,!reflective!and!prayerful!small!group!activities!about!Holy!Week!in!the!same!three!churches.! !These!three!days!presented!them!with!deeper! insights! into! the!core!of!our!Christian! faith,! the!death!and! resurrection!of! Jesus!and! feedback!from!schools!has!again!been!very!positive.!!!!!

3.1.4(( “Moving(On”(Assemblies(!All! of! the! Y6! pupils! in! Yate! and! Chipping! Sodbury! Primary! Schools! took! part! in! these! developmental!sessions! in!their!own!schools! in!which!they!faced!up!to!and!discussed!some!of!the!challenges!and!the!excitements! of! the! transition! to! Secondary! Schools,! wonderfully! supported! by! the! “It’s! Your! Move”!booklets!published!by!Scripture!Union!and!generously!provided!for!us!by!Bath!YMCA.!!!Each! session! concluded! with! all! of! the! participants! reading! aloud! Psalm! 139,! a! secure! basis! for!everybody’s!future!steps!!!!3.1.5( Lunchtime(Clubs(!Crafty! Club! at! Raysfield! Infants! and! CRASH! Clubs! at! Tyndale! and! Woodlands! are! opportunities! for!vulnerable!children!to!enjoy!individual!and!small!group!time,!working!on!Art,!Craft,!Games!or!reflective!activities!one!lunchtime!each!week.!!This!work!is!appreciated!by!the!schools!and!our!input!is!frequently!valued!in!Individual!Support!Programmes.!These!clubs!have!grown!over!the!last!year!as!we!have!gone!from!1!to!3!schools!and!it!has!been!encouraging!to!see!change!occur!in!those!we!are!working!with.!

3.1.6( R.E.(Support(!

Over!the!last!12!months!we!have!had!an!increase!in!requests!to!support!classroom!teaching!about!the!Christian! faith.! ! Where! possible! we! have! been! involved! in! leading! some! lessons.! ! A! shortage! of!volunteers!has!prevented!us!from!developing!this!further!but!it!is!an!area!that!could!grow!over!the!next!year.! ! Particularly! effective! this! last! year! has! been! some! holistic! work! and! prayer! sessions! in! the!Reflection!Garden!at!St!John’s!Mead!Primary!School.!!!3.1.7( The(Accompanying(Project(!The!Accompanying!Project!has!been!a!new!development!in!our!work,!providing!1`2`1!and!group!support!for! specific! pupils! in! transition! from! Y6! in! Primary! to! Y7! in! Secondary! schools.! ! We! began! with!Abbotswood!Primary!and!in!the!last!year!have!increased!the!programme!to!work!in!Tyndale!Primary!too.!Alongside! these!Primary!Schools!we!then!work!alongside! the!specific!pupils! in! their!Secondary!School!setting.! ! Individual! programmes! seek! to! boost! self`esteem! and! address! specific,! key! issues! which!individual!pupils!are!confronted!by.!!!

3.2(( Secondary(Schools(Work( The!secondary!team!has!continued!to!provide!fantastic!commitment!to!the!work!in!our!three!local!secondary!schools:!Brimsham!Green!School,!Chipping!Sodbury!School!and!Yate!International!Academy.!It!has!been!sad!to!lose!several!long!standing!team!members!who!have!moved!on,!particularly!Janet!Parker,!Bill!Adsett,!Merethe!Thauland!and!Bert!Weenink.!The!team!has!been!joined!by!one!new!volunteer.!The!last!academic!year!has!seen!some!really!positive!work!taking!place!in!these!schools,!against!a!backdrop!of!change!and!uncertainty.!!!3.2.1.(Lunchtime(Clubs(!Two!years!ago!we!were!able!to!increase!the!number!of!lunchtime!clubs!taking!place!across!the!three!secondary!schools!from!six!to!eight.!This!was!in!response!to!requests!from!students!in!Yr!8!Refresh!groups!who!wanted!to!continue!meeting!together!during!Yr!9.!2014`15!has!been!the!second!year!for!us!to!run!eight!lunchtime!clubs,!comprising!of!three!Yr!7!Rock!Solid!Clubs,!three!Yr!8!Refresh!Group!and!two!Yr!9!Refresh!groups.!!!Numbers!attending!Rock!Solid!have!been!similar!to!or!slightly!up!on!previous!years’!attendance.!On!average!31!Yr!7!students!attended!a!Rock!Solid!Club!each!week!across!the!3!schools.!!All!three!Yr!8!Refresh!groups!have!seen!an!increase!in!the!numbers!attending!which!is!really!encouraging.!On!average!23!students!attended!a!Yr!8!Refresh!group!each!week!across!the!3!schools,!up!from!an!average!of!14!in!the!previous!year.!Yr!9!Refresh!Groups!tend!to!be!smaller,!averaging!9!young!people!each!week!across!2!schools.!!!!Rock!Solid!continues!to!be!something!of!a!‘haven’!for!some!Yr!7!students,!particularly!in!the!autumn!term!when!students!may!be!struggling!to!make!friends!or!adapt!to!life!at!secondary!school.!During!the!year!a!strong!sense!of!group!identity!has!developed!in!each!group!and!good!relationships!have!been!built!up!between!group!members!and!the!leaders.!!!!Refresh!groups!have!seen!students!engaging!in!more!in`depth!discussion!as!young!people!continue!to!show!curiosity!about!spiritual!matters!and!the!lives!of!Christian!people.!Students!really!appreciate!that!leaders!take!time!to!listen!to!them!and!affirm!them,!as!well!as!giving!them!food!for!thought.!!Several!students!who!have!transferred!from!one!secondary!school!to!another!during!the!year!have!continued!to!attend!Rock!Solid!or!Refresh!and!have!valued!the!continuity!of!seeing!the!same!leader.!!!!!!Concerns!about!safeguarding!(and!possibly!radicalisation)!have!had!an!impact!on!the!clubs!this!year.!At!CSS!a!member!of!staff!is!expected!to!be!present!and!also!to!keep!a!record!of!numbers!attending!and!the!topic!under!discussion.!At!YIA!a!change!of!Senior!Leadership!resulted!in!the!work!of!all!outside!groups!being!suspended!at!the!start!of!the!summer!term.!Despite!providing!all!appropriate!documentation!we!were!unable!to!resume!clubs!for!the!rest!of!the!academic!year.!!!!!((((

(3.2.2!Assemblies!!Ten!assemblies!took!place!during!2014`15.!Themes!included!Tolerance,!Aspirations,!Fear,!Advent,!New!Year,!and!Easter.!At!Brimsham!and!Yate!Academy!the!assemblies!were!mainly!for!Yr!7!students.!At!Chipping!Sodbury!School!a!significant!change!was!the!move!from!a!year!group!structure!to!a!house!structure!with!each!house!having!students!from!Yr!7!`!11.!!Where!previously!we!have!taken!several!Yr!7!assemblies!during!a!year,!last!year!we!took!one!assembly!for!each!of!the!4!houses.!As!a!result!all!the!students!in!the!school!had!the!opportunity!to!reflect!on!the!meaning!of!Easter.!!!!!3.2.3(RE(Curriculum(!Input!to!the!RE!curriculum!took!place!at!Chipping!Sodbury!School!only!last!year.!For!the!second!year!running!the!team!contributed!to!2!lessons!on!Christian!Marriage!with!2!GCSE!entry!level!groups.!Feedback!from!the!exam!board!has!greatly!valued!the!input!of!outside!speakers!to!the!course.!!!!!!A!lesson!was!planned!at!YIA!but!was!cancelled!when!the!member!of!staff!left!the!school.!Despite!repeated!offers!to!BGS!no!opportunities!to!contribute!to!the!RE!curriculum!have!been!forthcoming!over!the!last!2!years.!It!is!unclear!why!as!previously!the!team!were!used!on!a!number!of!occasions.!! !

4( PUBLIC(BENEFIT((The!Trustees!consider!that!the!work!that!is!done!amongst!children!and!young!people!is!of!direct!benefit!to!the!public.! !This! is!through!Christian!values!and!lifestyle!taught!formally!and!informally!at!meetings!and!through!one`to`one!personal!relationship!as!well!as!through!the!encouragement!and!inspiration!of!events.! !The!fact!that!the!project! is! inter`denominational!means!that!workers!and!volunteers! involved!are!from!a!variety!of!church!backgrounds!and!the!ethos!of!these!churches,!which!each!seek!themselves!to!benefit!the!public,!is!a!vital!component!in!the!success!of!the!project.!!((5( FUTURE(PLANS((Despite! the! continuing! challenges! around! improving! Regenerate’s! financial! stability! and! increasing!volunteer!numbers,!more!and!more!opportunities!to!expand!our!work!continue!to!present!themselves.!!The!work!in!Primary!Schools!is!growing!and!evolving:!we!are!running!small!group!work!at!lunchtimes!in!a!number! of! schools,! as! well! as! offering! RE! support! and! the! developing! the! Accompanying! Project,!alongside!the!assemblies!and!Easter!and!Christmas!events!we!run.!!As!part!of!our!future!plans!we!will!need!to!develop!our!strategy!for!raising!the!profile!of!Regenerate!and!recruiting!new!people!to!come!and!be!a!part!of!the!team.!!The! work! in! the! Secondary! Schools! has! become! harder! due! to! the! political! and! social! backdrop! we!currently! live! in! `! issues! around! safeguarding! and! a! fear! of! radicalisation! from! religious! groups! are!presenting!us!with!new!challenges.!!However!this!may!offer!an!exciting!opportunity!to!look!at!how!we!

work!in!Secondary!Schools!in!the!future,!a!chance!to!maybe!develop!some!new!ideas!and!areas!of!work!that!allow!us!to!bring!hope!to!the!lives!of!our!young!people!in!a!culturally!relevant!and!acceptable!way.!!At! the! end! of! August! 2015,! our! Director,!Mark! Lawrence,! stepped! down! after! nearly! three! years! of!dedicated!service.!!Given!Regenerate’s!current!financial!situation,!there!is!no!immediate!plan!to!recruit!anyone! into! the!Director! role;! instead!we!are!delighted! to!welcome!Mark!onto! the!Board!of!Trustees!with!effect!from!the!beginning!of!September!2015.!!!As!we!look!ahead!into!the!remainder!of!2015!and!beyond,!the!key!priority!for!the!Trustees!continues!to!be! the! establishment! of! a! firm! financial! future! for! Regenerate,! whilst! also! working! on! publicity! and!volunteer!recruitment.!!!!!(6( FINANCIAL(PERFORMANCE((The!Regenerate!budget!for!2014`2015!predicted!that!the!charity!would!end!the!financial!year!with!£3836!less!in!the!bank!than!the!previous!year.!This!would!leave!us!in!a!precarious!situation!with!only!£1064!remaining.!!However,!income!was!more!than!budgeted,!largely!due!to!Sarah!Herrick’s!abseil!for!Regenerate,!which!resulted!in!donations!of!£2587.!!Salaries!were!£1808!less!than!expected!due!to!Mark!Lawrence!continuing!to!work!one!day!per!fortnight,!rather!than!the!budgeted!one!day!per!week!from!January!2015.!!Overall!this!resulted!in!our!balance!being!up!£561!from!last!year.!!!Since!last!year!we!have!agreed!a!reserves!policy!of!3!months’!salary!as!this!would!be!the!maximum!amount!of!notice!required!for!any!employee.!!We!have!sought!new!donors!and!have!acquired!a!few!more!regular!givers,!however!we!have!also!lost!a!few!people.!!We!have!encouraged!the!churches!to!donate!regularly!which!helps!with!our!budgeting!and!cash!flow.!!Our!main!expense!continues!to!be!our!employees.!This!will!reduce!slightly!next!year!because!of!the!loss!of!Mark!Lawrence.!!We!are!continuing!to!apply!for!funding!from!trusts,!but!due!to!the!nature!of!our!work!this!is!proving!to!be!difficult.!!!

7 CONCLUSION

During this time, Regenerate, as with the charitable sector as a whole, has faced, andcoi"ri:iues to face, financial pressures as sources of funding decrease. Though we still face a number ofcnaiienges in the year ahead, including developing strategies to increase funding, the number ofvolunteers and to develop further our relationship with our members and schools, we look forward tocontinuing to spread the Gospel message of hope and compassion to our young people in a relevant andunderstandable way, supported by the prayers of our member churches.
