1. Teaching and Learning (Undergraduate):

The teaching-learning process forms the very crux of any educational

institution. All the activities in the college are organized to facilitate the effective

functioning of this process. At the beginning of the session, an academic plan is

prepared with the help of a committee formed for the purpose. A detailed academic

calendar is chalked out and the teaching plan is delineated. The syllabus is

divided into three parts to be taught in three phases of the academic year. This is

printed by the college in the form of a booklet and is made available to the

students. Tests, exercises and practical are conducted by teachers in laboratories

as per requirements of the syllabus. A time schedule is made for the internal

examination of the college. Annual examinations are conducted by the university.

To make learning meaningful, the methods employed by the teachers of this

college are participatory in nature. Most of the teaching-learning activities are

conducted through lecture method and interactive discussion method. Experiential

learning, seminar method and computer assisted learning method is also being

used by some of the departments as a teaching strategy.

Our college constantly strives to make learning, student centric by giving the

students rich academic experiences. Academic tours are organized from time to

time. Talks by renowned educationists are often organized. Career counseling is

provided to the students to facilitate their selection of proper vocational avenues.

Private agencies and companies are invited to hold placement interviews on the

campus.

The college possesses a well-stocked library which has a regular supply of

latest books and journals on various subjects. The students and the faculty keep

themselves abreast with the recent developments in their respective subjects.

10

The students are issued books from the main library, which is adequately

stocked by recent publications of books and journals both national and

international.

According to the norms laid down by the UGC for the teacher-taught ratio,

the college does not have sufficient number of teachers, but the teachers of the

college do full justice to the academic load by taking extra classes and putting in

more teaching hours. The college also employs guest lecturers to augment teaching

work. They work under the guidance of senior faculty members of their respective

departments.

The college conducts internal mid-term examination. Students are

communicated about the evaluation system in their classrooms at the beginning of

the session. It has been made mandatory for all the students to appear in mid-

term examination; otherwise they might be restrained from appearing in the main

examination. The results of the mid-term examinations are communicated to the

students. Special remedial classes are arranged for weak students. A specific grant

is also provided by the UGC for this purpose. Apart from this, home assignments

are also given from time to time to the students, which are checked and evaluated

by teachers so that the students may come to know about their strengths and

weaknesses. They also learn to assimilate the content.

A healthy academic atmosphere prevails on the campus to facilitate the

teaching learning-learning process. The significance of mutual-learning is realized

to achieve a healthy academic work culture and to vouch for Teaching-learning

effectiveness. The participatory method of teaching is encouraged so that self

confidence among the learners can be generated. Educational tours, excursions

and sight visit by students are regularly organized under the supervision and

guidance of the teachers.

Remedial classes are held for weak students belonging to the SC/ST and

OBC categories. Free of cost coaching is provided to SC and ST students to offer

Page 13: Annual Report 2015-16 Report... · 2018-12-14 · Iswar Saran Degree College, ... Ø Remedial classes for weak students of all faculties. ... With the prime objective of creating

11

them opportunities to prepare for competitive examinations. The Career Guidance

Cell facilitates the students to choose career options and avenues.

An innovation in Teaching/Learning in the college has been the use of seminar

method of teaching where the students are enthused with the quest for knowledge.

They also get a platform to hone their public speaking skills as well as to effectively

organize their subject matter. This method has had a considerable success in the

college where a spirit of healthy competition has been fostered in students.

The teachers assess the efficacy of their teaching by conducting class tests

from time to time. Care is taken by the teachers to help the weak students by

providing them remedial classes. The advanced learners are motivated by the

teachers to work ahead of the rest by assigning them extra work or getting them

involved in the organization of seminars or other productive activities on the

college campus.

Apart from classroom teaching, students are exposed to field experiences, practical

and laboratory work. Seminars, symposia and debates are held periodically to

further enrich their academic experiences.

Another innovative effort of the college has been to make a syllabus

execution plan on quarterly basis in which the syllabus is completed within a

stipulated time frame. Supervision of senior faculty members and Quality

Assurance Cell of the college ensure that this time frame is adhered to religiously.

For capacity building of our students and enhancing their future progression

Computer Literary Programme, English Language Proficiency, Personality

Development and General Studies also have been launched in the college.

The college also has formed various committees such as Internal Quality

Assurance Cell, Library Committee and Placement Cell to augment the teaching

learning activities of the college.

Page 14: Annual Report 2015-16 Report... · 2018-12-14 · Iswar Saran Degree College, ... Ø Remedial classes for weak students of all faculties. ... With the prime objective of creating

12

For ensuring good institutional climate the college has also constituted a

women cell, a health care centre, counselling cell, gymnasium etc. This also takes

care of maintaining the mental health of the students. The college extends its

cooperation to the University of Allahabad at all times and at all levels, be it for

organising seminars, symposia, workshops or for teaching extension and

evaluation, or for attending orientation and refresher courses organised by the

University of Allahabad.

The following activities related with teaching have been initiated and
