Vision: J.J.’s PlaceColleen Lloyd’s greatnephew Jarren Jason Aichele “ J.J.” was born eight weeks premature at Kadlec Regional Medical Center on November 22 , 2009, weighing 3 pounds 7 ounces. He was a patient in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit for over a month. During that time, Colleen became keenly aware of the importance of having a NICU available when you unexpectedly need it. Their family was grateful for the highly skilled and loving care administered by the NICU staff. Colleen supported the recent NICU expansion project and a special room has been named “J.J.’s Place” in honor of her contribution. J.J. has grown into a very active, thriving, and thoroughly enjoyable five-year old!

In 2013, Colleen became aware of an opportunity to sustain the NICU into the future. As a long-time resident since 1944 she has been involved with many businesses and companies throughout our community, but she had never heard of Three Rivers Community Foundation (3RCF). Even though 3RCF was established in 1999, she said we were “the best kept secret in town”. After learning more about the Foundation, Colleen realized there was a way she could permanently support the NICU by establishing a designated endowment fund with annual distributions being made now and into the future.

At the annual Grants Ceremony in 2014, Colleen presented to Kelly Harper, Director, and Dr. Anthony Hadeed from the Kadlec NICU the first distribution check from J. J.’s Place Fund. An avid supporter of 3RCF, Colleen commented “I need to do more to further the community I was raised in.” Recently elected to the Board of Directors, Colleen will be an even stronger advocate for the Foundation.

Building a Legacy: T&R Farms, Ron & Rella ReimannAs a young couple, Ron and Rella Reimann returned to their farming roots after Ron came home from the Vietnam war. In 1973 they formed a partnership with Rellaʼs father, Haakon Thomsen, and her twin brother, Porky. Thomsen and Reimann—the T and the R of the farms—started near Moses Lake with “dry land” farming. Ron became interested in irrigation technology. He began researching the least amount of water that could be used to produce high yields. Ron teamed with Nelson sprinkler systems to develop a variable pressure irrigation system. With irrigation, their land turned into a rich and high-yielding farm.

T&R Farms now produces corn, summer wheat, potatoes, apples, and more. In fact, they are known as innovators in water management, having received the Ag Hall of Fame Pioneer Award in 2010. And Ron and Rella’s son Reid, a partner in T&R Farms, is now in the process of buying the farms, ensuring that family traditions are carried on.

The Reimanns feel blessed by their successes and have given much to the community in return. “The Ag industry is philanthropic,” Rella explains, “and we all have something we support. Porky supports the arts, Reid supports medical programs, Ron and I support education and other community work.”

Rella helped found the Three Rivers Community Foundation and still serves on the Board. The Reimanns say they could not be more satisfied with the work. They appreciate the low administration costs as well as efficiencies of screening applicants, limiting duplication of projects, and evaluating how money is spent. They both read grant applications each year and decide together what to support. “I never knew there was so much need in our community,” Ron said.

Rella summarizes their commitment, “We work very hard for our money, and we don’t want it wasted. To be able to watch what you donated grow and improve life in our community is deeply satisfying. 3RCF has earned our trust!”

For 2015, the Three Rivers Community Foundation (3RCF) awarded $5,000 to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Benton-Franklin Counties. 3RCF has sponsored many programs of the Boys & Girls Clubs over the years. “Heart is the most important thing to develop,” says Executive Director Brian Ace, “and the Three Rivers Community Foundation has partnered with us in support of programs that build healthy character, citizenship, and community leadership.”

The 3RCF grant also supported this yearʼs Boys & Girls Clubsʼ Youth Leadership Conference. Youth in grades 4-12 participate in a variety of leadership training activities, community service, a junior leader-of-the-year program, and maybe most important, plain old fun together.

Three Rivers Community Foundation is proud to sponsor important programs on behalf of the youth in our community.

Alexia Estrada is the Youth of the Year winner for the Boys & Girls Clubs for our area. A senior at Kamiakin High School, Alexia recently received the Governorʼs Community Service Award for 2015. Part of the 3RCF grant supported Alexia and eight other youth in attending a retreat in Ellensburg for competition preparation. The retreat focused on leadership, public speaking, and interview skills. Alexia recently competed with 16 other finalists for the state award in Seattle.
