JA Mission

To inspire and educate

young Canadians to

experience free

enterprise, understand

business and economics,

and develop

entrepreneurial and

leadership skills.

JA Vision

We will be recognized as

vital to the success of our

youth in reaching their

potential through

partnership with business

and educators in the

nationwide delivery of

relevant business learning

experiences by inspired

volunteers.

Dear Donors and

Partners:

There is no question that Junior Achievement (JA) has been making a positive impact on the economy and the future for Manitoba. We have been the successful link between education and the business world, giving youth the confidence and knowledge they need to define personal success, enhance their workforce readiness and pursue their dreams. Thanks to the continual support of our volunteers, teachers and donors, we at JA Manitoba made some significant achievements this year:

We delivered 418 programs, reaching 8697 students in across Manitoba. This is a 8 % increase over last year’s total of 8086 students. We celebrated three years of the induction of business leaders into the Manitoba Business Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame honours the outstanding Manitoba business leaders whose efforts have shaped our province and country. This event has proven to be a key component of our fundraising strategy.

As part of our digital learning strategy, we have made new strides in program design and delivery. JA has redeveloped three programs to be launched this year – new versions of Our Business World and Economics for Success, Dollars with Sense to be launched in fall 2016. The Government of Manitoba, one of our key partners, renewed their support of JA Manitoba and committed once again to fund us for over $125,000 this year. With this support, we are able to continue and expand our education of students all across Manitoba. All these accomplishments could not have been possible without the outstanding support of our teachers, volunteers, donors, alumni, board of directors and staff. Thank you for dedicating your time, your effort and your heart in making our programs successful. With your continual support, we can forge into a new era and break new ground in providing relevant, practical business education for youth. We look forward to more successful years with you as we continue to help our youth succeed and build business leaders of tomorrow in Manitoba.

Sincerely,

Greg Leipsic, President & CEO JA Manitoba

Message from the Chairman of the Board:

Over the past school year JA Manitoba has witnessed continued growth. We delivered more business programs and reached more students than the previous year, providing the foundational pillars that support financial literacy.

None of this would be possible without the support of teachers, volunteers and your financial contribution. We are grateful for the important role you all play in ensuring the more than 8600 students of Manitoba reached this past year discover their full potential tomorrow.

Outside the classroom JA Manitoba continued to build awareness by inducting 5 business leaders into the Manitoba Business Hall of Fame Gala. I am proud to say that the gala evening featured the induction of a diverse group of local business leaders and after only being in our third year, was sold out months in advance.

The strong relationship between the board and executive has powered our success over the past year. I would like to acknowledge the effective leadership of Greg Leipsic, CEO, as well as his team.

Thank you for your help in making the 2014/15 school year a success for our students.

Yours truly,

Brad Ross JA Manitoba Chairman of the Board

COMMUNITY FOCUSED

PROGRAMMING

Rural Community: During the 2014/15 school year, 129 programs were delivered

throughout rural Manitoba communities with the assistance of local volunteers that offered

relevant insight to each student. These programs were made possible through the extensive

financial commitment from the Province of Manitoba - a commitment that has been in

existence since 1993.

Urban Aboriginal Community: With the current urban landscape changing the

importance of providing programs to Aboriginal, First Nations, and Metis youth has never been

more important. JA Manitoba prides itself in the programming it is able to present to Winnipeg

Inner City schools that offer insight into the day to day challenges that face our youth. In

2014/15 there were 24 programs delivered to Urban Aboriginal schools that reached a total of

529 students.

Northern Community: Manitoba Hydro once again came forward to provide financial

support to allow for a JA resource based in Thompson, Manitoba. One hundred programs

were delivered to various schools in Northern Manitoba, reaching 1793 students. Programs

within this area allow youth to benefit from the knowledge and skills that prepare them for

future endeavors - entering into the workforce or post-secondary education.

French Language Community: In conjunction with CDEM (Economic

Development Council for Manitoba Bilingual Municipalities), JA delivered 64 programs in

Urban and Rural French language communities. Now in our 2nd

year of French language JA

programing, we are pleased to see the continued growth in this area; reaching a total of 1353

French language students in the 2014/2015 academic year.

VOLUNTEERS All JA programs are delivered with the

assistance of numerous volunteers.

Without these volunteers, students

would not receive the benefits of real

life examples and expertise on the

various dimensions of business that

are presented. 237 volunteers

supported JA programs by giving of

themselves for a half day to a full day,

or a few hours a day over a series of

weeks.

Volunteers welcome the opportunity to

develop their own communication and

presentation skills in an enthusiastic

environment where they are welcomed for their unique business insight and expertise. It is these same

volunteers that offer so much to the students that receive the reward of having touched students in a

unique and rewarding capacity.

The time volunteers give to JA does not go unnoticed. Within our Company Program - A Student

Venture, volunteer advisors give over 75 hours (per advisor) mentoring youth in the realities of

operating a business. By the end of the experience, advisors have also expanded their knowledge and

have had the opportunity to network with other similar volunteers within the program. For our in-school

programming, a significant number of our volunteers were recruited through a volunteer recruitment

partnership developed with TD Bank and RBC.

Volunteers make the material relevant, fuel the entrepreneurial spirit and challenge the student to excel

while being an inspirational source for young people in search of role models.

This year 237 volunteers brought the JA experience to life in classrooms across Manitoba. Thanks to

their passion for business and contribution of time, we can ensure Manitoba builds a solid foundation

for its future economic prosperity.

JA Manitoba also congratulates our many volunteers who help us during events and on our Board of

Directors. These individuals, through donating their time and talent exemplify the power of giving.

Their hard work creates lasting impressions with incredible events - all in the name of reaching students

and offering them unique learning opportunities. On behalf of the students, we would like to extend an

enormous “thank you” to all of our volunteers.

JA'S IMPACT Looking to understand the impact of JA? Just ask any of the Canadian students

who experience a JA program every year.

With JA’s education experiences offered to over 230,000 youth a year, the impact is undeniable. Yet for

all of these stories of this extraordinary impact JA has had, it has been difficult to quantify until now. In

January 2011, the Boston Consulting Group (BCG) released a landmark pro bono study that measured

what JA programs bring to participants, employers and society as a whole.

JA makes a positive annual impact on Canada’s economy.

• By helping youth stay in school, encouraging entrepreneurship, and teaching financial literacy skills,

JA Canada creates an annual return to society of $45 for every $1 spent

• Each year, $425 million can be attributed directly to the entrepreneurial activity of Achievers

JA fills a gap in Canada’s education system.

• Over 75% of Achievers cite JA as having a significant impact in developing their financial literacy and

decision making skills

• JA Canada programs reach nearly a quarter-million Canadian students in more than 400 communities

each year, and are delivered free-of-charge

JA is a life changing event.

• Over 65% of Achievers indicate that participation in JA Canada programs had a significant impact on

staying in school and enrolling in post-secondary education

• 70% of Achievers indicate that participation in a JA Canada program had a significant impact on their

desire to be an entrepreneur

JA graduates achieve higher levels of success.

• Achievers are 50% more likely to open their own business which leads to innovation, new jobs, and

wealth creation

• Over 75% of Achievers say JA was a critical driver of their work success.
