PRESidENT’S REPORT
Government to purchase a video screen that will be in place for the start of the 2011 metro season.
I would like to thank our GM Christine Robertson for her contribution to Hockey SA over the last 12 months. Christine has done a very good job in over seeing the improvements to the Distinctive Homes Arena including both the pitch replacement and building upgrade. Event management has also been one of Christine’s strengths with the improved level of professionalism showing through in all events she has organised over this period. A couple of these that standout are the Hockey SA awards night and the National Under 18 girls Championship held in Port Lincoln in April.
The National Under 18 girls Championship was regarded by the states attending to be the best championship that any of them have ever attended. The support they receive from the local hockey community was something they hadn’t experienced before. Matt Waller was a major factor in this and we can not thank Matt enough. Matt through his business Adventure Bay Charter- Swim with the Tuna took all the players and the officials out to his operation and gave them the opportunity of a life time to swim with the tuna at NO CHARGE. Yes that is correct for free normally costs $95.00 per person. If you visit Port Lincoln and you wish to swim with the tuna give Matt a ring and mention you are a member of the hockey family and I am sure Matt will look after you. I would like to offer a big thank you to all those volunteers (some were not hockey members) who gave up their time to drive the mini buses over and back to Adelaide. Without your support we would have never been able to hold the event in Port Lincoln while DHHA surface was being replaced.
In closing I would like to extend a very big thank you to our staff, officials and volunteers your commitment and loyalty to HSA is fantastic. Nothing is ever too much trouble and the work you put in above what is expected is exceptional. Without you HSA would not have been able to achieve the results it has over the last 12 months.
Thanks again everyone for your support in 2010 and all the best for the 2011 season.
Wayne Harvey President
I would like to present the 2010 HSA annual report to the members for your consideration. This year we have had our challenges but overall HSA continues to move forward in a positive direction. Hockey SA is in an excellent position at the moment with the ability to take advantage of the planning that has been put in place over the last
couple of years by the HSA board.
Our finance Director Nick Wagner is retiring at the AGM after 3 years in this role and as you will see later in this report our financial position continues to be very healthy. I would like to thank Nick for all the time he has volunteered to hockey over this period even at times when facing heavy work pressure from his employer. He is going to be sadly missed by all Board members not only for the insight he brings to the decision making process but also his humour which has defused many tense discussions. On behalf of the Board I would like to wish you all the best in your life after hockey.
To the Board of HSA I would like to thank you for the support you have given me over the last 12 months. Thank you for the many hours you have committed to hockey while carrying out your roles on the board with great professionalism. It has been a great privilege and an honour to have served as President during this period.
The Board would like to thank the Federal, State and local governments for the tremendous support they give hockey across the state.
In 2010 we have received money from the state government to replace the playing surface and watering system at Distinctive Homes Arena. On behalf of the membership I would like to thank the Minister of Recreation & Sport Michael Wright for his efforts in securing this money for us and the valuable support he has given to hockey across the state while in his role is very much appreciated.
Hockey SA has a responsibility under the management deed with ORS for the management of the stadium to maintain it in a good operating repair and condition consistent with an international level and general sports stadium. This year the Board committed funds in it’s budget to redress this situation and the results speak for them themselves. As you are aware the scoreboard needs to be replaced and the Board has committed matching funding with the State

HigH PERFORMANCE REPORT
Body Management, Strength & Conditioning & Sports Psychology to name a few.
A development level coaching accreditation course was run in conjunction with the AHL Women’s finals week to allow participants the opportunity to complete their qualifications while having access to some quality hockey and opportunities to network with other coaches.
In 2010, HSA made a conscious decision to expose more indigenous children to hockey through regional visits and hosting a stand at the ATSI youth week. Members of the Suns & Hotshots played host to a number of indigenous children from around the state at the ATSI Youth Expo which provided any opportunity to expose a group of kids that would not have had the opportunity previously.
The Kukri Academy continues to run and as a testament to the quality of the program had one of the inaugural members awarded a SASI scholarship in 2010 and a number of other athlete’s talent ID. Throughout the year the athletes have also been exposed to variety of coaches, skill development techniques and personal development opportunities.
The High Performance committee has identified 6 key areas that will have a greater focus in 2011. One of these includes the indoor program. Although it continues to run, discussions are well underway with key stakeholders in terms of revamping and promoting indoor and the benefits of having a well round competition and state team program.
In terms of competitions run throughout 2010, Hockey SA played host to a number of National Championships which included the finals week of the Women’s AHL in Adelaide, U18 Women in Port Lincoln as well as the Senior & U21 Indoor.
The State Zone Championships continue to be a success with the standard of competition across the board at a high level. Evidence of the standard has been shown through the high quality of squad number increase for the 2011 underage squads. The standout zone for 2010 was City East.
Nick LenoirHigh Performance and Competition Manager
2010 was a standout year for the Hockey SA High Performance program, setting new bench marks and proving that the program is headed in the right direction with some great results across the board at National Championships level.
On the men’s side of the program the U21, U18, U15’s all finished in the top 4 at their respective national championships. The U18 played finals hockey for the first time since 1992 eventually finishing 3rd with a number of player’s being TID by national coaches and selectors. The U21’s also played finals hockey for the first time since 1991, also finished 3rd with Tom Wickham being named player of the tournament.
For the women the finals hockey continued with the U21’s also finishing in the four. The U15 Girls narrowly missed the four, while the U18’s also finished 5th after not winning a game in 2009.
The Hotshots and Suns again represented the state in the AHL. The Hotshots started their campaign brightly beating perennial finalist Queensland in their first game. However from here they struggled, playing some quality hockey at times but not consistently and will be looking to rebound in 2011.
The Suns eventually finished 5th, but a bright future looms. The team is young and has a great deal of talent with a number of athletes being involved in National programs and will be hoping to play finals in 2011.
The results mentioned above would have not been possible without the volunteer coaches and support staff that have done a remarkable job during 2010.
The support from SASI and its service providers has also been instrumental in this success and we will look to continue this strong partnership into the future.
The HSA High Performance program is striving to continually develop its next generation of players, coaches and support staff. In light of this direction, 2010 played host to a number of seminars, with the highlight being the visit of Ric Charlesworth. Ric was kind enough to conduct a number of sessions to cater for all levels of interest. HSA also hosted a variety of seminars over the course of the year, including

HOCKEY METRO ExECUTiVE REPORT The Hockey Metro Executive (HME) provided excellent support in 2010 and the season was made successful due to the resilience and dedication of the volunteers providing their loyalty and undivided attention to detail and process, when confronted with the many challenges over this period.
The resignation of Paul Beckman and Margie McIlwraith’s absence proved to be a telling blow initially to the HME during 2010, however this void was ably filled by the Executive members who all stepped up to the plate and took on varying roles with a professional command that ensured 2010 ran smoothly.
Pauline Heylen provided wonderful support from HockeySA during 2010 and her commitment and vast amount of time did not go unnoticed. If it were not for Pauline’s ever tireless efforts and communications to the Chair of the HME, 2010 would not have been as successful. Thanks also go to Craig Sinclair in ‘risking’ his talents to take the minutes and assist with HME communications – well done!
2010 saw the introduction of technical benches for all Premier League games at local clubs, which although initially stretched the local clubs, did eventually provide training of ‘technical support’ volunteers for the Hockey Metro Competition and many thanks to Rosie Stern and Bruce Murrie for their commitment and wonderful training and support. This effort did prove to be a positive step in the right direction towards professionalising the HME.
At the beginning of the 2010 season the HME met with an invitation being extended to all HME club Presidents and Secretaries together with newly appointed HME sub-committee members in order to implement a ‘blueprint’ towards professionalising the HME. One such initiative as above regarding the ‘technical support’ on the Premier League games for 2010 was one such strategy that was installed upon the competition.
Once again the HME Rules Sub-committee provided important value to the efficiency of how the competition operated throughout the 2010 season and thanks were extended to James Brook and Paul Beckman for their support.
The proposed cost centre for the Hockey Metro Competition never eventuated, which was very disappointing for all the community and it is highly recommended that the 2011 Board of HockeySA address this matter as a matter of urgency.
HME produced some outstanding results during the 2010 season both within the operational levels and the also the actual ‘playing arena’, where yet another perceived improvement with playing standards and incremental increases in crowd participation eventuated.
Unfortunately, due to circumstances of grounds being ‘down’ due to replacement and lighting standards, plus the policy affecting the ‘elite players’ with the revamped AHL format, it meant that some local clubs did suffer during 2010, where no fixtures provided lack of revenue raising opportunities.
Again a very big thank you to the out-going 2010 Hockey Metro Executive for their tireless dedication, commitment and endeavour during the year. They have been a wonderful committee with a firm resolve.
Being my last year at the helm of the HME, personally there are many accolades and thanks that need to be afforded with my entire Executive ever since being elected commencing with the 2007 season.
I along with the entire Hockey Metro Membership extend that appreciation for the excellent effort the Hockey Metro Executive and its sub-committees demonstrated throughout 2010. I would like to take this one step further and repeat these sentiments to all those volunteers, the life-blood of our community, who stood up and performed so well and admirably since my involvement from 2007 within the Hockey Metro Competition.
Since 2007 where my Executive drove the Hockey Metro Competition to where it ended in 2010 was a great achievement for HockeySA, which resulted in a model of good practice not seen before in our community.
On a disappointing note it would be quite remiss of me not to comment, as the ‘outgoing’ Chair of HME and as an observation, on HockeySA’s Board’s decision to re-appoint the General Manager as the new Chair of HME. I believe that this is not a direction that would be desired by local clubs in the Hockey Metro Competition, given the effort and time that all volunteers have sacrificed to implement and enable such a positive structure and model. Like any new structure an organisation driven by volunteers if directed and channeled in a strategic manner, may not initially be perfect, however in the long run volunteers make our community and the Board has a major responsibility and accountability back to the ‘end users’ of this competition, regardless of their agenda.
Separating the Hockey Metro Competition away from the operations of HockeySA has been good for the local clubs, however the Board’s decision to revert this back to HockeySA also reverses the ‘needed’ change and past four (4) years of goodwill provided by the HME and its volunteer base, totally disregarding the fact that HME can indeed operate independently and thereby ‘freeing’ HockeySA to undertake its core strategic directions.

jUNiOR dEVELOPMENT REPORT 2010
1&9 CLiNiC1&9 is a coaching company ran by Jamie Dwyer and Mark Knowles, 2 of Australia’s best hockey players. In 2010 South Australia was able to conduct a 1&9 clinic, ran by Mark Knowles and Grant Schubert (Jaime Dwyer was unavailable). The clinic was conducted on a Monday evening and attracted over 60 participants. Mark and Grant demonstrated some their amazing skills, much to delight of the young onlookers, as well as putting them through some great drills.
AHL CLiNiCS WiTH WORLd CUPA small clinic was conducted for junior players in conjunction with the AHL women’s final week in Adelaide. The real highlight for these young players however was a chance to have their photo taken with the World Cup trophy and signed Kookaburras playing top.
ACTiVE AFTER SCHOOLS COMMUNiTiES (AASC) CARNiVAL dAYSAfter forming a strong relationship with AASC, Hockey SA was able to conduct 2 large carnival days at the State Hockey Centre this year. The first of these days took place during the
AHL Women’s Finals week and involved over 150 children partaking in activities including Hockey, circus skills and Life Be In It. This brought a great atmosphere to the ground that day and show cased Australia’s top hockey to school children. It also included a great display from a Jump Rump for Heart Demo team at half-time of one of the matches.
The second of these days was held during term 4 and involved over 250 participants completing a circuit of 5-6 different hockey drills and activities.
REgiONAL CLiNiCSDuring the annual regional visits for Hockey SA development and high performance staff, clinics were conducted for local participants. These clinics exposed the participants the some techniques and drills used at trainings for Hockey SA elite programs.
The past year has been a very rewarding time for the development of players, coaches and officials in Hockey SA. With new programs and clinics conducted all over South Australia the growth and success of the sport looks promising. The following report will outline some of the highlights and changes that happened during 2010.
gRANT SCHUBERT SKiLL CLiNiCSThese clinics replaced the holiday clinics conducted in July each year. After much consultation it was decided to return to camp style clinic with participants staying over at the State Hockey Centre. This provided much more time on the pitch and also allowed Hockey SA and the coaching staff to provide information sessions and activities at night for the participants.
Grant Schubert was more than happy to support the clinics and although he was not in attendance during July, it was great to pass on some of the trademarks and skills that have made Grant one of South Australia’s greatest hockey players.
Overall the clinics were a success and will be conducted even bigger and better again in the July School holidays of 2011.
HOCKEY SA PATHWAY SqUAdSThe reintroduction of the Pathway squads commenced in October when a training camp was held for identified Under 15 participants. These players were identified with the potential to play at a State Team level in the near future. An intense 2 camp was conducted for these athletes, providing an insight into the workings of Hockey SA state teams.
TARgETEd AREA CLiNiCS (TAC)The TAC clinics continued in 2010 with 10 clinics held. A variety of skills were taught at these clinics and with around 15 participants at each TAC, they remain a big focus for the Hockey SA development and high performance area.
“I loved the camp and I’d like to
thank you for organising it. It was
so much fun but so tiring, nothing
better than being exhausted from
doing something you love.”
“Thanks for organising such a
valuable development camp. It
certainly brought me up to speed
with my motivation and skills.”

LET’S HOCKEY REPORT
Let’s Hockey was introduced at the start of 2010 as an
introductory program for schools students to the sport
of hockey. The program provided students with hockey
clinics with the focus on fun and participation in a safe
environment.
A large emphasis was put on the branding and marketing
of the Let’s Hockey program. Each club and association
were asked and provided Hockey SA with 6 schools each it
wished to be targeted for Let’s Hockey in their region. Flyers
and booking forms were sent to all target schools. Hockey
SA also attended the annual SAPSASA conference and
presented the Let’s Hockey program to all district convenors
which also provided a large boost for the new program.
EqUiPMENT
Hockey SA was able gain an equipment sponsor, Just
Hockey, who provided the program with 6 large stick and
ball packs, along with coach’s uniforms.
Hockey SA also purchased an inflatable boundary field that
is able to be used in the Let’s Hockey program and special
events.
COACHES
Trained coaches were employed as casual staff and used to
deliver the Let’s Hockey program to schools. The training
of the coaches place early in 2010 and covered all aspects
of coaching children as well as the Let’s Hockey program.
Hockey SA gained support from the Office for Sport and
Recreation with materials for our coaches.
NUMBERS
The figures below show the number of students we visited
during each term of 2010.
Term 1 - 1345 students
Term 2 -1201 students
Term 3 - 1082 students
Term 4 - 1557 students
This gives a total of 5185 Students who were exposed to Hockey through the Let’s Hockey program in 2010.
HigHLigHTSSome highlights of the 2010 Let’s Hockey year included the following:
• ThecarnivaldayheldatRavendale,PtLincolnin conjunction with the Under 18 Girls National Championships (including schools meeting Craig Victory and Katie Allen)
• TheRiverlandHockeyAssociationandtheircoordination to visit almost all their schools
• ThelargenumberofSportsDaysattendedinterm4
• Thesmileonplayersfacesatallclinicsconductedthroughout the year
SUMMARYOverall I believe Let’s Hockey has had a successful first year. Whilst many improvements can be made the program, including the link from the program to clubs, with over 5000 students exposed to our sport in one year it is a great start.

OPERATiONS COORdiNATOR’S REPORT
posted on the Hockey SA website. All players selected in state teams now receive a package of information, including the itinerary, immediately upon selection. This has improved communication considerably.
STATE TEAM UNiFORMSIn the past it has been pretty standard for state teams to not receive some or all of their uniform items in a timely manner. This is unacceptable considering the high cost that players pay for these items. Procedures have been put in place at our end to limit this, including basing team selection trials and dates around the dates uniform orders need to be placed, rather than the other way round. Of course, there will always be factors outside the control of Hockey SA, but we are working closely with our uniform suppliers to limit these.
HOCKEY NETHockey Australia have had a major push over the last couple of years to expand the use of the Hockey Net online membership system to all clubs and associations within Australia. We are pleased with the level of acceptance of this from our member associations. All associations within South Australia will, in 2011, have their members registered online, and almost all will be running their local competitions online. This has major benefits for the administration of clubs, with the ability to spread the workload. It also has major benefits to Hockey SA with accurate player numbers assisting us with grant applications.
Sue StephenOperations Coordinator
OPERATiONS MANUAL2010 saw the beginning of the establishment of an Operations Manual for the tasks that need to be performed by the Operations Coordinator. This ‘how to’ manual is being established as a series of linked documents explaining the purpose (why), application (who) and procedure (how) of each task.
Whilst it will always be a work in progress a number of documents have been completed, in particular those that relate to the tasks associated with the logistics surrounding state teams. There is always something on the go with one state team or another at any given point in time, and up until now there have been no coordinated written instructions for the Operations Coordinator to follow. This results in a very steep learning curve for new staff with the very real possibility of extra, unintended costs to Hockey SA.
STATE TEAMSHockey SA selects over 20 state teams in any one year, including AHL, underage, indoor, country and masters teams. These teams all require flights, accommodation, ground transport, uniforms etc. It is the role of the Operations Coordinator to organise these, treading the fine line between cost and comfort. Setting player levies is difficult and we acknowledge the high cost that state selection inflicts on players and their parents. Procedures are now in place to ensure that all the costings are as accurate as possible so that players are paying no more than is necessary to cover the costs associated with their team.
During 2010 the assistance of the appointed State Team Managers was greatly appreciated. Upon their appointment each team manager receives a folder of information to assist them with their volunteer role. These folders are constantly updated from feedback received. Team Managers have indicated their appreciation of this. To ensure this continues, the process of putting together the folders is included in the Operations Manual.
A State Team Handbook was developed in 2010 to deliver consistent information to parents and players. This handbook is available to everyone on the Hockey SA website and players selected in teams are instructed to download and read it. It provides answers to the common questions that we receive from players and parents. In addition to the handbook, all forms relating to State Teams have been

SASi REPORT
On the girls side Holly Evans made her debut for the Hockeyroos against New Zealand in Perth, along with the indoor world cup team, whilst Elise Stacy was offered an AIS scholarship in Perth. Karri McMahon, Georgie Parker, Elise Stacy and Holly Evans played games for Australia A on a tour to Gifu in Japan. Bianca Greenshields was selected in the National Development squad, Jane Claxton, Amy Watters and Karri McMahon were all selected in the National Junior Squad.
All in all some excellent individual, but most importantly team performances throughout 2010, and we will be sure to keep the momentum going during 2011.
Special thanks to Leigh Smith, Russ D’Costa, Matt McGregor, Tim Rawlins, Ben Frick, Nick Lenoir and Ange Mcombe for all their support and assistance with the program throughout the year.
2010 was a fulfilling year for the SASI Hockey High Performance program, with many athletes making their debut for Australia on a range of different levels and age groups.
The year kicked off with the SASI Amazing race, athletes were sent all around the city and had to complete a range of tasks/puzzles throughout the day, which were all centred around team work, being outside your comfort zone and performance under pressure. The day was a success even given the excessive heat (41 degrees) and set us up nicely to get ready for a solid training block. The eventual winners on the day were Tom Wickham and Scott Germein.
The SASI Hockey program consisted of a variety of different sessions and some new initiatives were implemented. We had our full group sessions, specialist goalkeeping sessions (including aerial awareness and gymnastics) Individual and small group sessions which were skill acquisition focussed, summer Olympics, Hockey core conditioning, gym, and a specialist drag flicking group was formed. This group worked with the biomechanist, and also had live video feedback on hand at various sessions along with a speed gun to track their progress.
SASI also entered teams into the local indoor competition and got some real value out of the speed and variety of fine offensive and defensive skills that indoor hockey has to offer which were also applied to our outdoor game.
SASI also hosted a national goal scoring camp in November, which saw a few Hockeyroos fly into town to fine tune some of their finishing skills. Recent Hockeyroo selections, Jade Warrender, Jade Close, Kellie White and Bianca Greenshields were all involved. Again the girls had access to instant video feedback through their coaches on their Apple iPads. Big thanks to SASI Performance analyst Tim Rawlins for his technical expertise over the weekend.
Grant Schubert continued his outstanding international form throughout 2010, winning a World cup gold medal with the Kookaburras. Tom Wickham will hopefully be joining him at the top soon after recently being offered an AIS scholarship.
Tom Wickham, Jake Stacy, Matthew Claxton, Ed Chittleborough and Glyn Tamlin were all selected in the National junior squad, whilst Alistair Oliver, Cam Joyce, Daniel Mitchell, Ryan Edge were selected in the National Futures group, with Edge winning a gold medal in the U17 youth Olympics team in Singapore.

HOCKEY UMPiRES’ ANd TECHNiCAL COMMiTTEE REPORT
The Umpires’ and Technical Committee of South Australia and the panel of umpires it represents strive to support and improve hockey in SA. We currently have three umpires ranked in the top 10 in Australia. At this time, we strongly urge players contemplating umpiring on the panel to take advantage of the experience of our top umpires and opportunities for developing umpiring that this represents. We do need more umpires to take up the challenge, as several of our current panel have retired and we will find it difficult to cover all Metro 1 games next year. This year panel members umpired the State trial games and practice games throughout the year, which provided opportunities for some of our developing umpires.
Our core of dedicated umpires continued to cover the Division 1 and most Division 2 matches this year.
We were able to send umpires to cover Country Grand Finals as requested by Country Associations. Many Country Association Finals were staggered to enable umpires to go to the country for their final series, which helps the panel share the load.
We have been able give more junior umpires opportunities to umpire junior games and we will continue to work on their development. The Committee thanks Sam Fitzgerald and John Berry for their work in allocating Junior appointments.
The Zone Championships also provided opportunities for umpires and we urge Country Associations to utilize this weekend to develop their own umpires as well. The Committee thanks Sam Fitzgerald and John Berry for allocating umpires across the junior grades during this weekend.
Our top level umpires performed exceptionally well in all of the Australian Championships that they attended. Tim Pullman umpired the Final of the NHL with Levi Stevens. Dan Haseloff reserved the Final. Tim also umpired at the Commonwealth Games, umpiring the crucial England v India semi-final. Mark Pilkington umpired at the Under 21 Men’s Championships. Sam Fitzgerald, Matthew Claxton and Ben Sutherland represented South Australia at the Under 15 Championships. Ben has subsequently been named in the panel for the Under 18 Championships in 2010. Rhiannon Murrie was selected to umpire in the Under 18 Championships in Pt Lincoln in 2010. Prue Lange umpired at the U15 Championship in Darwin. Meagan McPhee was appointed to the Women’s Vets panel. Tony Gunn represented the State in an Invitational Under 13 Tournament
for Boys. Sam Fitzgerald has been selected to umpire at the Under 21 Indoor Championships.
We recognized the contribution to Hockey umpiring in South Australia by Gary Belder and Char Collett; as contribution to Men’s and Women’s umpiring respectively; Bruce Murrie for Services to umpiring and Meg Bourne as the ‘Umpire with potential’ at the Hockey SA Awards Presentation night. Meg Bourne was also recognized as the umpire’s scholarship recipient at the Past Players’ Dinner.
On the Technical side, the Metro Committee ratified the appointment of a Technical bench at the satellite grounds this year. This required clubs to allocate suitably qualified personnel to manage the Premier League Games as has happened at DHHA over the past few years. Courses were run to skill people in the requirements of the games. Rosie Stern organized and ran several course options and thank her for sharing her expertise.
Rosie was appointed Tournament Director in Women’s Hockey at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi and we congratulate her on her appointment to such a level in World Hockey. Peter DeLacy was appointed as tournament Director at the NHL games held here in Adelaide and had a band of local qualified helpers acting as Judges during the Tournament.
FUTURE diRECTiONS There will be substantial changes to the structure of the umpires’ committees next year. Assessment of the panel and support of new umpires will continue to be a priority of the new Committee for next year. They will endeavour to assist Country Associations to improve their umpire skill levels. They will continue to work with Hockey Australia to accredit umpires as well.
The challenge for us as a Hockey community is to continue to identify, encourage, support and develop quality umpires in this State. To this end we will continue to look into expanding and improving the Play by the Rules Coloured Shirt Programme with Dale Stephen’s assistance.
I would also like to thank the Umpires’ Committee for their hard work throughout the season.

iNdOOR REPORT
In January 2010, SA sent away U16 Boys, U16 Girls and U14 Boys indoor teams to compete in the U14/U16 Invitationals held in Wollongong, NSW. Once again those who went away with the teams came away with significantly improved indoor hockey skills and knowledge, while being exposed to quality opposition. Thank you to Kim Pena, Mary Stamatopoulos and Jacque Rowe for doing much of the organizing of this trip. Hockey Australia has agreed to hold a National U15 Boys and Girls Championship in 2011.
While SA did not make the finals in the U18 Men’s Championships played in Perth, the players came away with invaluable experience for the 2011 Championships to be held in Adelaide. From the championships held in Perth, Connor Hutchins was selected in the U18 Australian Indoor Hockey Training Squad.
In May, Daniel Cox travelled to Canada to play a number of Test Matches against Canada as part of the Australian Men’s Indoor Hockey Team.
The 2010 Open and U21 Indoor Hockey Championships were held in Wollongong in November. SA sent a young U21 Mens team that was competitive throughout the championships. A large portion of the team came from players who had represented SA in the U18 championships held earlier in the year.
The SA Women’s team once again had a great tournament, but unfortunately lost their semi-final playoff to eventual winners NSW, when they conceded a goal in golden goal extra time. However, the girls should be congratulated on their fantastic tournament.
At the conclusion of these championships, Holly Evans and Leesa McDonald were selected in the 2011 Australian Women’s Indoor World Cup Train-on Squad. Holly went on to earn selection in the Australian World Cup team to play in Poland in February 2011.
In 2010, the Indoor Hockey Committee attempted to build on the success from the 2009 local indoor competition by extending the season beyond Christmas and into 2011. Once again the competition was made up of Senior Men, Senior Women, U18 Mixed, U15 Mixed and U13 Mixed grades.
I am pleased to say that our local junior indoor competition appears to getting stronger every year. This year also saw SASI enter teams in the Senior Men’s and Women’s competitions, giving these elite players exposure to indoor hockey.
While I believe there has been a significant improvement in the indoor skills and knowledge that players at both local and state level have, there is still much work to be done. With ongoing support from Hockey SA, hopefully both clubs and players will start to take a stronger interest in indoor hockey. The Australian Men’s Coach has been pushing indoor hockey, as much of the skills and knowledge can be transferred over and can lead to better outdoor hockey players.
I would like to thank the Indoor Hockey Committee for all their hard work and support throughout the year. Dimi Spano deserves a special mention for efforts to organise and run the local indoor competition.

CLUB REPORTS
AdELAidE UNiVERSiTY HOCKEY CLUB
2010 was another great year for the Adelaide University Hockey Club with 9 out of our 15 senior teams playing finals and our Metro 3 and Metro 4 Men’s teams taking out the premiership.
2010 saw the continuation of our two Premier League coaches in Roger McDonald for the Men and Barry Cibich for the Women and they both continue to take great strides forward with their teams. The Club would like to thank them again for their commitment throughout the season and look forward to having them around the club for the next few of years.
Adelaide Uni had its most successful University Games campaign since the late 1970’s winning a silver medal in the Men’s division and a bronze in the Women’s. We also had three players James Bayly (AdUni), Rueben Wyld (Sea) & Jake Stacy (Adel) make the Australian University Team.
Adelaide Uni has some exciting times ahead with the complete upgrade of the West Beach Hockey Centre taking place in 2011 thanks to a $250,000 grant from the state government. We are also looking forward to the reintroduction of a junior program in 2011/2012 and our centenary celebrations in 2012.
The committee would like to thank all those people who contributed to the clubs successes in 2010 and we look forward to continuing the growth and development of the club in 2011.
Tim Collin, President
BAROSSA VALLEY HOCKEY ASSOCiATiON
During 2010 we continued with our Junior Umpiring program and had eighteen juniors pass through our ranks, with several senior umpires also receiving their accreditation. We had several junior players make the state teams and five seniors played in the National Country championships in Canberra. We have also formed an “Artificial Turf Action Committee (ATAC)” to address the problem of a lack of artificial turf in the Barossa Valley. The BVHA have been unable to secure any funding from the local council as yet and plans for a new recreation centre in the area do not include an artificial turf, despite hockey being a particularly strong sport in the area. ATAC will now focus on corporate sponsorship, state and federal grants, and local hockey players to fund the project which will create a hockey centre in the Barossa with 4 grass fields and 1 turf field at the one venue. As with every other association, we would be unable to achieve what we do without all our volunteers, and we gratefully applaud all their hard work throughout the season.
Siobhan Barnden, President
AdELAidE HOCKEY CLUB
Adelaide Hockey Club continues to have fantastic numbers of juniors and this is due at least in part to our fabulous Minkey competition. Our Thursday night dinners at the club were again a success in 2010. AHC Club Days continue to draw crowds and are well supported by spectators from opposition clubs as well as our own members. Our BBQ Trailer continues to roll out the yiros’s & sausages and we do a great egg & bacon muffin first thing on a Sunday morning during U9 and U11 and U13 games.
The end of season junior presentation night is a highlight on the club’s calendar not only for the players, but their parents, siblings and coaches. We continue to cater for over 350 people at this event and it is great to see that this night continues to be a success for the club.
Our senior players continue to support junior development at AHC with a number of players taking on a junior coaching role. 2010 saw the implementation of an umpire development program across the club. Our first year of umpire development was a great success, especially with junior players and this will continue to grow in 2011.
Susan Treglown, President
AdELAidE HiLLS HOCKEY CLUB
2010 was an important year for the Adelaide Hills Hockey Club which celebrated its 30th Anniversary. Many members both past and present attended the anniversary dinner at the Howard Vineyard, Mt Barker.
The Adelaide Hills Hockey Club is gradually increasing membership numbers each year and this year fielded six senior and three junior teams. The trend in growth is expected to continue into the future with the government plans to expand the population in this area. The committee has been working with the Anembo Park committee and the Mt Barker District Council in planning improvements to both the pitch and clubrooms facilities. Money has been committed to the initial pitch works to reorientate the pitch.
We continue to foster a family friendly environment. Our junior windup was well attended by the players and their families for the barbeque and juniors verses parents matches which proved to be very entertaining.

BLACKWOOd HOCKEY CLUB
Blackwood Hockey Club enjoyed mixed fortunes in 2010. As the smallest and oldest Women’s club in SA our focus is largely on maintaining player numbers, and we do that by keeping our fees minimal and making sure that everyone enjoys their involvement with the Club. We look forward to our 100 years celebrations in a couple of years and to the possibility of forming a third team in the future.
The Metro 4 side had a disappointing season after being Premiers in 2008 and making finals in 2009. Player unavailability was an issue, with some players struggling with difficult timeslots. We have requested this team be relegated to Metro 5 for 2011 and hope our success will return with the change.
The Metro Grass team had a shocking start to the season, continuing the pattern from the past couple of years. But as the season wore on, the team bonded and we played some great hockey without the luck which really good sides in any sport seem to attract. But perseverance paid, and in the final three minor round games, we played the top three sides, NONE of whom was able to beat us. Having retained all of our players and picked up a couple of handy recruits, we are certainly looking forward to 2011.

The season of 2010 saw CDHA field 4 mixed U14 teams, 5 mixed U17 teams, 3 women and 5 men’s teams. Unfortunately numbers were down a little this year, but this did not deter a good season.
Being a small association (5 Clubs) has its merits and we are proud that ‘Saturday family sport’ is still promoted with hockey. Playing at the same venue on any given Saturday helps this ‘family atmosphere’. Being small also has its disadvantages; playing teams on a regular basis you become accustom to playing styles. It is always good to play in carnivals to spur on the challenge and the unknown.
CDHA is pleased to have a number of juniors involved in the Zone Champs. We also had junior teams at Port Pirie and Grange carnivals and individuals play at the Regionals. These juniors excel from playing at carnivals. It is very encouraging the help from other clubs to shuffle players ensuring all children are given a go – thanks.
On a reality note, we struggle for helpers and a big concern is the limited number of willing umpires.

BURNSidE HOCKEY CLUB
Burnside Hockey Club fielded 10 senior and 9 junior teams which was an increase in senior but fewer junior teams.
We had 3 senior sides play in Grand Finals achieving one premiership from the Premier League men. This was their 3rd grand final appearance in 4 years culminating in 2 premierships.
Our juniors had success in State and Zone Championships and from 5 teams in Grand Finals only our U18 boys and girls won the premiership.
The club’s talent pool was evident again as we provided many representatives in playing, coaching, managing and umpiring for the Australian Hockey league, selection in SASI squads, junior state teams and international matches.
The club is still trying to secure a home pitch and hard work from dedicated club members has secured $800,000 in funding from the Federal Government and a private school project partner. Burnside Council has allocated funds up to $1m for the total project that includes a hockey pitch and synthetic tennis courts but details still have to be finalised.
The club introduced a new uniform for its Premier League and Metro 1 squads and this will become club wide in season 2011.
Finally the junior section of the club was excited that PAC was designated as their home ground for the 2010 season.

A reasonable year on the park for most teams. The withdrawal of Ladies grass was a disappointment, as was the financial result for 2010. Once again having home day at another club meant No traffic made it back to our own club rooms for Income. The club received a grant which came in handy for Upgrading Facilities at the club, but still a lot more work to be done after the 2009 Disastrous roof collapse. 2010 also saw a large drop off of players at the end of the year making it difficult to forecast possible teams for 2011.

The 2010 season started well with the introduction of a new sponsor to the club. The Griffin Hotel. Although one of the smaller clubs in the winter competition, the 2010 season saw the Metro 5 team once again make finals for the fourth year in a row. Congratulations to the members of this team.
2010 was also a great year for the Metro 3 Men’s and Women’s teams, with the Metro 3 Men narrowly missing finals. Hopefully 2011 will be a more successful year. The 2010 season was a hard fought season for the Men’s Veteran side and I’m sure in the coming season through the friendly and warm atmosphere of the club and this team the veterans will have a great season.
I would like to thank all members of the club for a fantastic season and I hope to see all back for the 2011 season.

Consistent with the previous year, Forestville Hockey Club
entered 6 men’s teams, 6 women’s teams and 7 junior teams
into competition. A key development was the promotion of
the Women’s Metro 2 side to Metro 1. The Premier League
and Metro 1 teams’ seasons were again interrupted by the
loss of players to both injury and travel, which unfortunately
had a flow on effect to lower grades, however, it was
promising to see juniors make the most of the opportunity
to play at a higher level. Whilst the club had limited success
in reaching the major round, Metro Grass Women ‘Blue’
progressed to the grand final. An exciting day for the club
was the ‘home’ grand final played at Goodwood Oval. With
over 150 supporters in attendance, the clubrooms and
balcony were stretched to capacity. The off-field highlight
was at the club’s end of season dinner, where Harvey Boag
was granted the status of ‘Club Legend’, recognising his
contributions to Forestville Hockey Club over the past 50

Grange Royals Hockey Club has enjoyed a successful season both on and off the pitch, enjoying both Women’s and Veteran’s premierships, and a friendly, family orientated club atmosphere back at Sea Eagle HQ.
During the season our superb Metro 5 Men’s team was re-named the “M5 Slayors”, and accordingly designed a warm up top, to be worn only by those too hot to warm up, this also doubled as their end of season fishing trip shirt. The name “Slayors” obviously relates to their fishing, rather than playing ability, but the camaraderie and mateship during the year was enjoyed by all.
Every Saturday night during the season we serve dinner back at the Club House. It is always a relaxed family atmosphere where we can all meet up for a drink & meal after our respective games. Our record for dinners was smashed this year, when we served 190. It was a special occasion, as some of our junior players had organised a “Shave Off” to raise money for Canteen after one of our U21’s was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. The Juniors raised over $1500 by auctioning off their scalps.
We are all looking forward to Season 2011 and the continued success it will bring.

NARACOORTE & diSTRiCT HOCKEY ASSOCiATiON
The Naracoorte & District Hockey Association enjoyed one of its best seasons in recent years. All teams fielded good numbers which resulted in a very even competition.
One of the highlights of the year was a trip to Furner in July. The Kingston/Lucindale Hockey Club hosted a round and turned on a spectacular day on well presented fields.
2010 also saw construction start on a Multipurpose Sports Facility in Edenhope. This includes a flood lit sand turf hockey pitch. Work is underway to take advantage of this new facility with the formation of a new Club based in Edenhope.
Once again Naracoorte & District Hockey Association has benefited from the work of several self less volunteers to provide well manicured fields and a well run Association.
Anne Hinze, President

This year was very exciting both on and off the field with the new pitch, irrigation system, grandstand, lighting, shed, scoreboard all completed and we thank the Federal Government for their financial support in particular Federal Member for Makin, Tony Zappia.
We would also like to thank and the Tea Tree Gully Council for their financial support and administration of the Federal Grant project. The club is about to start a $350k clubhouse upgrade to provide changerooms, and again we must thank the TTG council for funding this project.
These upgrades to our facilities have enabled the NEHC to continue its membership growth and this year we had 1 extra U9 team and 2 extra senior men’s teams. We had good growth in membership (12%) with many of the new members coming from our local area.
We again ran our “come and try” Minkey Program with 20 to 30 kids out on a Friday night and I would like to give a special thanks to Rodney Thorpe and Kelsy Squire who helped out with this program. It’s great for the development of hockey.
Our playing results in 2010 were the best ever for our 15 years of existence with 10 teams in the finals, with 5 making the GF playoff from which we won 3 premierships.
I must congratulate our M1 women who achieved our highest ever senior women’s premiership. Also our U15A men and our new team Div6 Men (father/son team) both won premierships.
The top grade HockeySA Grandfinal Day was also exciting for the club as we had teams in 3 out of the 4 grand finals.
This year the club had 23 State Representatives of which we are very proud but we are most proud of Holly Evans for her selection in the Australian Hockeyroos. This was most
rewarding as she came through our junior ranks and is a NE Zulu through and through.
The strength of the NEHC comes from its strong volunteer base and it was pleasing to see Roy Evans awarded Life Membership for all the hours he’s put in to the club over the last 12 years.
Jim Hughes, President
PgC/SEYMOUR OCA HOCKEY CLUB
Well where did 2010 go! Our club had a very busy year once again fielding 3 teams in Metro 1,3 and 5. Although we brought no premiership flags home this year the overall club spirit was high and a lot of fun.
Events held over the season included a family BBQ day held by our major sponsor The Maid, this enabled our more ‘little’ supporters to help sell raffle tickets and guide the chiefs behind the Bar’B that the sausage’s were cooked “just right”
The “movie night” held in conjunction with the Seymour Old Collegians Association and was well-supported ending in a very successful fund raising event for the club.
We were unlucky this year that we were not able to have all 3 teams play together consecutively. This made our supporter days difficult to run and coordinate leading to poor attendance. Not having a club room we consider these days as a great way of uniting all players and their families together and another means of the club to try and fund raise. Hopefully we will have more success this year.
Being a smaller club has its challenges however the benefits are far out weighed. The atmosphere and support, which is generated by all members and their family, creates closeness amongst us all. We have started promoting our players and members of the clubs their interests, hobbies and business’s to enable a stronger network of support for each other. We have found that this has many benefits to players whose skills can be utilised by people within the club, such as physios, accountants and photographers to name a few. This is an aspect, which we hope to expand and grow in 2011 season.
Good Luck this season,

PORT AdELAidE HOCKEY CLUB
Port Adelaide entered 25 teams in the Metro Competition with a team in every grade of every competition except for Metro Grass. This gives all of our members a tremendous opportunity to participate in a team that suits their age and ability at an outstanding facility.
Whilst we couldn’t match the 2009 performance, 2010 saw 5 Major Premierships and 8 Minor Premierships. That is still a wonderful effort and only a handful of teams missed playing finals hockey. Our Premier League Women played in the grand final for the eighth consecutive time going down to Adelaide in a penalty shoot out. Our Premier League Men started slowly and then finished with seven consecutive wins to finish fourth going down to Seacliff in the semi final.
The Club introduced online registrations and payments via SportingPulse. These and other tools form an important role in managing a membership base that approaches 400 people. We increased our communications via email and social pages and this has had a positive impact on the social fabric of the club.
This year we took the step of including the match or turf fees into our annual membership subscription. Whilst this substantially increases the annual subscription it does mean that team managers no longer have to hassle players for money each week before they play.
Recruiting and retaining players, coaches and volunteers remains a huge challenge for the club particularly in an environment where the governing body invests very few resources into development and promotion of the Metro Competition.

PORT LiNCOLN HOCKEY ASSOCiATiON
Port Lincoln Hockey Association was honoured to help out HockeySA by hosting the Women’s U18 National Championship in April 2010 when the Pines pitch was predicted to not be ready in time. Thanks to a small hard working committee the tournament was a resounding success with lots of positive feedback from Hockey Australia, State Teams, players, spectators and our local community.
Tony Stockham was the recipient of the HockeySA Volunteer of the Year award based on his leadership of the committee. We learned some valuable lessons through the experience and look forward to hosting the Australian Country Championships in July 2011. This was a brilliant opportunity to showcase our local region and hopefully see some return tourism into the bargain. There was some fantastic hockey played too!
As a result of the U18 Women’s Championship PLHA won the Regional Advantage Award in the Sports Category. We attended the Regional Advantage Awards evening late last year to proudly receive a big pear and a plaque. None of this happens without many volunteer hours from our event committee with support from HockeySA staff.
2011 promises big things with planning underway for the new season and the Australian Country Championship event. We look forward to another successful year.

PORT PiRiE HOCKEY ASSOCiATiON
The season began with a change of the guard. New president Bernie Collins took over the reigns from outgoing president Kathy Anderson. New secretary was Samantha Burt and new treasurer was Judy Dunning.
All board of management positions were mostly filled and there was an air of optimism at the start of the hockey season. Team nominations were about the same as the year before.
The senior competition was made up of Division 1 women (4 teams), Division 2 women (4 teams), and Division 3 women (5 teams), Division 1 men (4 teams), Division 2 men (3 teams), Division 3 men (5 teams), and Division 4 men Over 35 vets (3 teams).
Junior divisions were U17 boys, U17 girls, U13 boys, U13 girls, U11 boys, U11 girls, and U9 mixed, as well as a Minkey program for 6 weeks for children in Reception and Year 1.
2010 was the 11th year of playing turf hockey in Port Pirie, and it was considered a high priority to replace the sand-filled pitch. A turf steering committee was formed with Christine Chivell the prime mover, and comprised of Christine Chivell, Grant Hanlon, Roger Kirchner, Allan Zubrinich, Glenn Spencer and Kaylene Roberts, to work on an application to seek funding from the State Govt. for a new Hybrid Turf for Port Pirie.Fortunately we were successful in obtaining a $300,000 grant to replace the turf pitch with a Hybrid Turf Pitch in 2011. The news was announced in January 2011.
There were many highlights throughout the 2010 season, the most significant one being the selection of Dylan Roberts into the Australian 16&U schoolboys national hockey team. He travelled to Beijing, China for competition. Dylan is a product of the junior development program in Port Pirie which has produced some outstanding players in the past 11 years, the most notable being Cameron Joyce who is now a member of the Hotshots squad for 2011. Cameron played State League hockey for Port Adelaide in 2010. Prior to this he played all of his junior and senior hockey in Port Pirie.
The 2010 hockey season was successful financially with the hockey assoc. able to build up the funds to be able to put $150,000 cash aside for the new hybrid turf pitch.
Hard working volunteers in many different areas including catering, maintenance, coaching, umpiring, carnivals, etc. enabled the assoc. to reap the benefits.
The association is in a strong position still with the three bigger clubs St Andrews, Park Royal Panthers and Risdon represented in just about all senior and junior grades, whilst the smaller clubs such as Clare Valley Cruisers, Wolves, Strykers, Crystal Brook, St Marks (junior based only), and Crystal Brook all contribute to the success of the association.
Port Pirie was well represented at the SA Regional Junior Championships held in Whyalla in 2010 on the October long weekend, a major event on our yearly calendar. Port Pirie won several of the age divisions at the carnival which was a huge success. 2011 SA Regional Championships will be hosted by the Barossa Valley for the first time since the regionals began in 2001.

Thanks to all Association Executive members delegates, players and club members who have been involved with the Association during the season and all other members of the Riverland Hockey Association for their contributions during the season either at a Zone, Association or Club level.
This year we have focussed on preparation to ensure that at an Association level future years will be planned in advance. This will reduce last minute programming and organisational requirements to be met for the following season. The Association has also focussed on game development for the Riverland clubs by offering specialised assistance in the coaching, umpiring and playing functions of the game.
The Riverland has also been used as an example by Hockey SA in promoting the game of hockey through school program ‘Lets Hockey’. The Riverland has been seen as a success story in utilising this program for the development of and gaining new players into the game of hockey. The Riverland has gone further to introduce and take on Hockey Australia’s ‘Hooked into Hockey’ junior development program, which will also benefit local clubs and the Association in making the game appealing to young people with a view to retaining but more importantly strengthening playing numbers.
Through our various promotions and management of the game this year we were awarded with Hockey SA’s inaugural Regional Association of the year award. Congratulations to all members of Riverland Hockey in proving we are the most successful Association in the State.

PACHC fielded one team in the 2010 season at the Metro 3’s level. The Club maintained it’s playing list with playing numbers rarely being an issue and a solid core of players competing each week. Most players from the 2009 season returned as well as a few new faces appearing this year.
On the pitch, the first half of the season was very disappointing. We only managed one win in nine games, and were holding the wooden spoon at the halfway mark of the season. However, the second half of the year was much more promising. We managed to compete in most games, something that had been lacking earlier in the year. The team managed some good wins and draws against finals bound opposition towards the end of the season. The team finished 8th with three wins, three draws and twelve losses.
Off the field, the Club was happy to secure a new sponsor in the 2010 season in the Seven Stars Hotel. The Club thanks them for their support and hopes to continue this relationship in the future.

Again we held a very successful annual dinner with awards presented to 3 young people who we believe have a very bright future in hockey. Awards were presented to players – Caitlin Watkins and Dalton Casey, and an umpire Meg Bourne. Awards were presented by people who we wished to recognize as having made a significant contribution to hockey as volunteers – Noona Thompson, Roy Evans and Margaret Grieve.
As a result of the survey we conducted late in 2009 our committee is proposing a number of changes including – a name change and a new constitution. The proposed changes will be presented to the AGM in March 2011 for consideration. We anticipate these changes will lead to wider participation in the club which in turn will add to our ability to support hockey as a sport, and also lead to the formation of similar clubs interstate.

The Club entered the 2010 season with much anticipation and looked to build upon the success of the previous season. The Club fielded 11 senior, 7 junior and 1 veterans team, with 9 teams making the major rounds which yielded 3 premierships. State representation was pleasing, with 16 players in representative junior teams and 5 in AHL/U21.
The junior development programme underwent a significant revamp. The schools programme was revised with over 600 students attending in-school coaching sessions with 300 participating in a lightening carnival. The under 9 competition was conducted in house and attracted a core group of 30 youngsters.
The new uniform, which was introduced in 2009 to the premier league and metro 1 teams, was carried through to all grades.
In conjunction with Council and the Seacliff Tennis Club, the facilities continue to be upgraded and although a little late for the season, the lights have now been upgraded to a sunglass-wearing 700 lux.
Thank you to all the coaches, managers, umpires, volunteers, players and spectators for supporting the Club and making 2010 such a successful year, both on and off the field.

The 2010 season can be considered a successful season for SPOC. We fielded 6 teams with 3 women’s team and 3 men’s teams. The Men’s M2 team finished in the finals, but unfortunately lost to a more prepared Seacliff team in the semi’s. The M4 and M6 teams again failed to make finals again, but many positives can be taken with the development of younger school grade players.
The Women’s teams had a lot more success. The M2 and the top M5 team went through the season undefeated, and the other M5 team finishing 4th overall. But success during the season did not translate into premierships. After winning their prelim, the M2’s narrowly lost to Adelaide in extra time. The M5s equally did not fare any better losing all their matches in finals. But a positive can be taken from the invaluable experience.

Our Senior Competition again comprised of four Men’s and five Women’s teams battling it out with Mundulla and High School coming out on top. Both Competitions are strong but some of the teams struggle with numbers and may have a few too many players the wrong side of 40. Experience is great but younger ones need to keep coming through or problems will arise.
Our Juniors are the real strength of our Association. We had four teams bursting at the seams but not enough to consistently form another. There were also 50+ Rookies on the books learning to play hockey. We had Juniors selected in State teams with representatives at Zone and u13 State Carnivals. Many of the older Juniors also play in the Senior Competition. The big disappointment is the lack of retention of most of these Juniors as they move away to school and University.
We held a very successful Reunion Dinner during the year with many past players making the trip back. Life Memberships were presented to Jim Hunt, Werner Gensicke and Fran Hill. During the year the Association also saw the passing of Life Members Mig Brookman and Joyce Hinge.

2010 was one of the more successful years for the UniSA Lions Hockey Club in its recent history. The year started out with an aggressive recruitment drive which allowed the club to submit an extra team for the Metro 6 Mens division. Adding a new team is always a gamble, but in retrospect this move helped to engage more of our members and provided a good introduction to the game for novice players.
The playing season was notable for the performance of the Metro 5 Mens team, which lost only two games and managed to take out the premiership. This achievement was especially notable because the same team had been relegated from the Metro 4 division the previous year after taking out the wooden spoon.
Towards the end of the playing season a new uniform was introduced, to near universal acclaim from club members.
The club committee will continue to build on the success of the 2010 season to ensure the Lions continue to have success on the field and remain an attractive option for hockey players in metropolitan Adelaide.

In 2010 we tried to increase numbers with coaching clinics and the school programme. We did pick up a few players from the schools but most were already hockey players. We had several players make state teams in most grades including the veterans which was good for the game on the peninsula.
We had 6 Men’s teams, 7 Women’s teams, 7 Senior colt teams and 7 Junior Colt’s teams. This is one team down to what we usually have. We had a good season with no major incidents though out the year. We did have a very wet and windy final day but spectator numbers where still good for the day. We are looking at similar teams in 2011. Some clubs are struggling for players but this is normal for this time of year.

HockeyEd continued to provide opportunity for accreditation for coaches and officials with a number of course conducted around the state, including a Development Coach course.
Regional coaching and umpiring seminars were again held in each region visited and some valuable resources and information provided during these.
2011 will see the beginner of new phase with all coaches requiring a minimum coaching accreditation and a slight revamp of the HockeyEd programs from Hockey Australia. 2011 is also set to be a big year for the Coloured Shirt Program with the new resource folder set to be released to all associations.
