Secretary General’s REPORT FOR THE YEAR 2016- 2017

The Maharashtra Boxing Association has been shining since last 92 years. Last year due todisaffiliation of Boxing India by AIBA & Govt. of India as well our boxers can’t get opportunity toperform in the National Championships. But after the collective initiative of our Life President Mr.Kishen Narsi & President Mr. Jay Kowli, “Boxing Federation of India” not only formed, but also getrecognition from AIBA & Govt. of India as well. Really feel proud that our President Mr. Jay Kowlielected as “Secretary General” of “Boxing Federation of India”.

Proud Moments:-

The Boxing season of 2016 - 17 was noted very busy for MBA. The response and discipline fromboxers received during Maharashtra State Boxing Championships was very good & enthusiastic, dueto that our boxers also performed very well at National level.

I take this opportunity to thank all the affiliated units for their grand active participation, as almostevery unit grabbed medals in the MSBCs. I also thankful to the units, who hosted various MSBCsduring year 2016-17.

I also thankful to the Government of Maharashtra for their great support, as almost every unit haveboxing rings now.

I must thanks to Maharashtra Olympic Association for standing behind us in all up & downs ofNational federation during last 5 years.

And with this I once again thank all the members of the Maharashtra Boxing Association, Boxers,Coaches, TO’s, Administrators and Promoters who are showing great patience and resilience, whichwill eventually transform into a very strong Boxing Association in India.

Lastly I would appreciate to our Treasurer, Executive Secretary, Administrative Secretary & our teamat MBA office who have toiled hard to deliver all that MBA decided to do !

Maharashtra’s Boxing has been a history written in a hurry. The Maharashtra BoxingAssociation, founded in 1925, is universally considered as Asia’s oldest boxing unit. Handfulof fistic enthusiasts formed this august body as ‘Bombay Presidency Amateur BoxingFederation on 12th October 1925. This was much before Indian Olympic Association wasestablished & 25 years before the Indian Amateur Boxing Federation was formed.

In last 92 years, this dutiful association has produced more National & InternationalChampions than any other state and even today proves its pugilistic as well as administrativesuperiority by producing the best of Indian boxing talent on a regular basis. Boxing today hasbecome the most popular Olympic discipline and India has won maximum no. of medals atAsian & International level, where in 223 countries participate regularly & vie for the tophonors. We, too, we are very proud to have produced many Olympians, Asian Champions,Arjun & Shivchhatrapati Awardees keeping Maharashtra in the top rung of the national &international Boxing.

MBA also happily boasts of having successfully organized prestigious events such as theWorld Cup, Asian Championship & many other big-time International Boxing Events ……thuskeeping India’s flag flying at the international arena !!

Appeal

Dedicated workforce and sincere administrators have been promoting Boxing activities throughout the length & breath of geographically large state of Maharashtra. Percolation to the grass root level has taken place and it now requires more resources and funding.
