MISSION OF MERCY SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 4, 2016
The Mission of Mercy offering on Sunday, September 4, 2016 is Rainbow
Village, celebrating its 25th Anniversary! RBV continues to transform the
lives of homeless families in North Metro Atlanta through community-
based transitional housing that promotes self-sufficiency. Since its
beginning the program has helped over 300 families including nearly 900
children. Thanks be to God!
Who knew that a small idea started here at Christ Church would blossom into the
vibrant village it’s become? From a modest duplex to the present campus of 18
apartment homes, a bustling Community Center, and the last two apartment buildings
under construction. When completed RBV will be home to 30 families (approximately
100 residents) at a time. The after school program, Early Childhood Development
Center, Boutique, and evening meals and programs are in full swing and we invite you
to get involved. Visit the website, www.rainbowvillage.org, to learn more. Thank you
for your generous contributions.
THRIFT SHOP HELP NEEDED—SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 10TH
The Thrift Shop needs your help on Saturday, September 10th at
3:00pm. Volunteers will bag-up all clothing that remains after the Bag
Sale ends. It usually takes about one (1) hour if we have 4 or 5
volunteers. We also need someone with a truck or a couple of vans to
drive the bags to the Peachtree Corners Goodwill Store that afternoon.
Please contact Susie Duke at [email protected] or 78/938-2617.
She’ll respond on Tuesday, September 6th. Many thanks.
ZOMBIE WALK TO BENEFIT HAITI SCHOOL
Get out your walking shoes and your costume, and join us for the
inaugural Zombie Walk to benefit our school in Haiti on Saturday,
October 29th [note the new date]. There will be a longer and a
shorter walk, for all fitness levels. Registration begins at 10am,
ZOMBIE WALK through Norcross at 11am, and Varsity Food Truck lunch at noon.
What'll ya have?!
This is your opportunity to ask friends and relatives to support our Haiti school by
supporting you. We ask walkers for a minimum sponsor donations totaling $100. The
donation forms are available on the Christ Church website, or you can pick some up in
the Communications Breezeway, between the Narthex and the Parish Hall. Those who
register before October 10th will "earn" a T-shirt. For more information and to register,
contact Terry Franzén at [email protected].
COMMUNIQUE ARTICLES DEADLINE
The deadline for submitting articles for the September 2016 issue of the
Communique is Saturday, September 10, 2016. All articles should be sent
to Judy Moore at [email protected]. Thanks.
OUTREACH OPPORTUNITIES? During our Outreach Ideation sessions this summer we heard from
many in our parish! Some are already very active in our various
outreach efforts, while others want to be, but don’t know where
they could be of service. In the days, weeks, and months ahead, we
will be creating more intentional methods of communicating what
we are doing in each of our primary Outreach ministries, and we’ll invite you
to serve. We also want to stay open to other ministries the Holy Spirit may be
calling us to, so if you have an idea, please share it with The Rev. Jody
Greenwood and she will include it as we explore the Christ Church Outreach
plan. To learn more now about how to help, please contact:
Thrift Shop Susie Duke or Ivonne Obelar
Rainbow Village Rita Boughrum or Mary Halliburton
Norcross Co-op Ministries Joe Barnes or Myrna Campbell-Kelly
Haiti School Terry Franzen
Refugee Resettlement Beth Jonsson

The Beloved Community
Commission for Dismantling Racism
Diocese of Atlanta Invites you to
A FORUM: Racism and Episcopalians’ Christian Responsibility
Part One was on August 30 at Holy Innocents’ Episcopal Church,
and began the conversation. You’re not to late to be included in this
time of learning and sharing our collective voices.
Part Two is September 13 – 7pm - 9pm at St. Paul’s Episcopal
Church, 306 Peyton Rd. SW - Atlanta - 30311
A diverse panel of clergy and laity will consider questions like:
Where is the Holy Spirit guiding us in relationship to the current Civil Rights
Movement?
How will the Movement remember Episcopalians in the Diocese of Atlanta during
this historic period of American history?
How are we active and engaged in dismantling racism in our communities?
What does the Black Lives Matter Movement mean to Episcopalians in the
Diocese of Atlanta?
The forum will conclude with the celebration of Holy Eucharist. For information,
please talk with The Rev. Jody Greenwood, or contact Catherine Meeks at
FREQENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Ever wondered to yourself who does what, why and where within our
parish? In order to shed some light on some frequently asked questions,
the bulletin will now highlight a weekly Q and A.
Question: We have a special reception/party coming up. Is there any way
we could use the Parish Hall or the Youth Center for this event.
Answer: Please contact Beth Holland in the church office at [email protected] or
770/447-1166 x 222 to see if the space and date would be available.
PRIMETIMERS’ LUNCHEON, WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 7, 2016
Please join us in the Parish Hall at 12:45pm on Wednesday, September
7, 2016, for our PrimeTimers’ Lunch. Guest speaker, Beatriz Pimenta,
who is a co-worker of Sarah Randall at Belk’s, will talk about the “Belk's
& Wacoal Fit 4 the Cure” event and the importance of mammograms
for early detection of Breast cancer. Beatriz is a proud survivor. So they can properly
plan the lunch menu, please let us know if you plan to attend by contacting Leslie
Wengenroth at 770/495-9103 or 404/324-3694 or e-mail to [email protected].
WHAT IS FOYERS ALL ABOUT??? It is about organized small groups of adults that share a simple meal and fellowship
together on a roughly monthly basis. And that is ALL that it is about…
FELLOWSHIP! Foyers has a long and rich tradition at Christ Church and our goal is
to get to know one another!
* Larger groups (8-10) so the fun goes on even if someone can’t make it!
*Emphasis on a SIMPLE meal (dinner, lunch or brunch) that keeps the hurdle low for
the next host! Seriously, soup, salad, and sandwiches are excellent menu choices.
* With the agreement of everyone in the group, patronizing a local restaurant is also
an option. Or, take those sandwiches on a picnic!
* Starting in October and running through May for maximum scheduling flexibility,
particularly around the holidays.
* For those who aren’t sure (or are understandably suspicious about the definition of
“simple”), let us know that you just want to try it out and we’ll make sure that you are
included in a group for at least one or two meals.
* Open to all adults – couples and singles.
The last sign-up date will be September 25th in the Parish Hall following the 10:30am
service. Questions: Kristie Bernard at [email protected] or 678/691-4264.
THANK YOU LUNCH, SEPTEMBER 11, 2016

book bags and supplies for their children. You are invited to lunch on
Sunday, September 11, after the 10:30am service in the Parish Hall. Please

parishioners.
WORSHIP JOYFULLY!
NEW LITURGY OF THE WORD FOR
YOUNGER WORSHIPPERS OF CHRIST CHURCH
We have some additional liturgy options for our younger worshippers during the first art
of the 10:30am service. In addition to Children’s Chapel (3 years thru Kindergarten),
older kids and youth will have a cycle of options based on the Sunday of the month.
1st Sunday Begins Oct 2nd WORD! Young Worshippers (YC)
2nd Sunday Sept 11th Youth Lead Liturgy in Nave
3rd Sunday Sept 18th Service & Prayer (Youth Center)
4th Sunday Sept 25th Contemporary Service at 5pm
All children and youth will join worship in the Nave at the Offertory.
CALLING INTERESTED SINGERS & INSTRUMENTALISTS
Beginning September 11th, and every 2nd Sunday of the month thereafter,
this service will be more inclusive of our younger generations, not just with
respect to our liturgy, but the music sung at those services. Anyone who
would like to join in with the Parish Choir to sing those Sundays can simply
show up at 9:50am for a 30 minute run through of the morning's hymns and
anthem. The anthems will be more of the Christian Contemporary flavor,
while the hymns will be a blend of several styles of music. If you play an instrument
and would like to join in, please feel free to join us in the Nave. For more information,
please contact Christian Schoen at [email protected] or 404/545-9764.
ALTAR FLOWERS FOR SEPTEMBER 4, 2016

CHIMERS & CHORISTERS RESUME ON SEPTEMBER 14TH
INTERESTED PARTICIPANTS / NEWCOMERS SESSION
For the 2016-2017 music season at Christ Church, the Chorister and Chimers
program will be combined into one offering for children and youth (ages 6 to
18). Rehearsals will be on Wednesdays from 5:30pm to 7:00pm, along with
participating in 4 to 6 services through May, 2017. This is a great opportunity
for children and youth to get both vocal and instrumental training, reinforcing
music concepts in a variety of ways. For those only interested in singing or
chiming, the rehearsal will be setup for singing from 5:30pm to 6:15pm and chiming
from 6:15pm to 7:00pm. We will have a "come and hear" session on September 14th
from 5:30pm to 6:00pm for folks to learn more about the program, see what participants
do on a weekly basis, ask questions, etc. For more information, please contact Christian
Schoen at [email protected] or 404/545-9764.
