Global Compact in Serbia (1/2)

• Founded on December, 6th 2007 during the event jointly organized by the National Bank of Serbia and the UNDP;

• On July, 10th 2008 the members agree to form a semi-formal network in Serbia and adopt the “Organizational principles and management structure”;

• The Board of Directors has 5 members: Erste Bank, Eurobank EFG, Lafarge, Serbian Chamber of Commerce, SMart kolektiv;

• The network office: National Bank of Serbia and UNDP.

• Working groups: o Social inclusion working group and WG for people with disabilities;o WG on combating corruption;o WG on corporate social responsibility in the banking sector and financial

• No membership fee, members voluntary finance certain activities;

• At present 47 members employing > 40.000 people:○ 27 companies;○ 13 non-governmental organizations;○ 4 business associations;○ 1 academic institution;○ 1 city;○ The National Bank of Serbia.

Global Compact in Serbia– what was done in 2009 (1/2)

• The Board of Directors has held eight meetings in 2009;

• The workshop on the preparation of the “Development report” was organized with help of Mrs. Elene Panove from Global Compact in Bulgaria;

• Participation of the Global Compact delegation at the VII Annual meeting of local networks in Istanbul, during which the achievements were presented as well as the scheme of network operation in Serbia;

• Presentation of Global Compact at the round table “How to stimulate philanthropy development and the development in the non-profit sector in Serbia by using tax relief” organized by the Balkan Community Initiative Fund and partners;

• Working breakfast with media representatives;

• Design and launching of the Global Compact web site in Serbia

• Presentation of the Global Compact in Serbia at the Regional conference „Development of the corporate social responsibility – good practice examples” organized by the Center for development of non-profit organizations and the Foundation Open Society Institute – Representative office Podgorica Montenegro;

• Annual meeting of the Global Compact in Serbia;

• Presentation of the Global Compact in Serbia at the conference „Corporate social responsibility at the global and national level during crisis - EU experience and Development of Serbia“ organized by the European Commission and the Serbian Chamber of Commerce.

Global Compact in Serbia – plans for 2010

• Promotion of ten principles of Global Compact emphasizing the principles for the protection of human rights;

• Expansion of members and support in order to achieve a more active participation of members;

• Organisation of topic-related seminars and workshops;

• Support to existing and future working groups;

• Support to members for the preparation of first Development reports;

• Verification of the decision reached by the Board of Directors with regard to the foundation of a business association.

3. To support the right to free association and collective bargaining rights

7. To take precautionary measures for environmental protection

8. To conduct responsible business activities with regard to environmental protection

9. To encourage the development of technologies related to environmental protection and to spread them

Working group on combating corruption

• Members: Belgrade Business School, Center for Democracy, Center for monitoring and evaluation, KPMG, Merck Sharp & Dohme, National Bank of Serbia, Serbian Chamber of Commerce, Siemens,Telecom Serbia, Transparency Serbia, UNDP;

• Focus: The principle 10 of the United Nations Global Compact and the corporative view with regard to combating corruption;

• From the corporative view there are three levels of the fight against corruption : internal, external and joint action;

• The Serbian Chamber of Commerce presides over the working group.

• The concept and framework of activities was defined;

• Reviewed documents: o Implementation of ethical codes in companies and technical support to members

during the implementation of ethical codes in their business operations;o Role of professional associations in combating corruption;o Prevention of corruption risks during the transfer of people from the public

sector to the private sector – avoiding conflict of interest.• Preparation of the proposal of the Declaration on combating corruption for Global

Compact members, which shall be submitted to members for review (upon approval by the Board of Directors);

• Preparation of the proposal for the Integrity agreement for participants in the public procurement and revision of the integrity agreement implementation together with the Public Procurement Office;

• Dialogue and coordination with public organizations and non-governmental organizations with regard to combating corruption.

• Survey among Global Compact members with regard to combating corruption in accordance with the United Nations Global Compact model;

• Review and adoption of the Declaration on combating corruption by Global Compact members in Serbia;

• Compliance of the Integrity pact with the public procurement system in the Republic of Serbia and review of possibility to incorporate the Integrity pact in the public procurement system;

• Joining activities related to combating corruption, which was lead, on the global level, by the World Bank, UN and leading companies in the anti-corruption field;

• Motivation of members to participate in partner projects, programmes and education in the anti-corruption field;

• Continuous cooperation and partnership with the Board and Anti-corruption agency;

• Promotion of the significance of digital certificates and e-business for combating corruption;

Working group for corporate social responsibility in the banking and financial sector

• Members: Academy of Banking and Finance, Banca Intesa, Credit Agricole, Eurobank EFG, Erste Bank, Hypo-Alpe-Adria Bank, Jubmes bank, KBC Bank, Komercijalna banka, KPMG, National Bank of Serbia, Piraeus Bank, Societe Generale Bank.

• Basic goals:o Financial education;o Joint cooperation with regard to the implementation of new and innovative

products; o Organization of lectures on corporate social responsibility in the banking and

financial sector;o Support of chosen projects and actions, participationin the realization of some actions organized by other working groups; o Learning from other people’s experience.

• The National Bank of Serbia presides over the working group.

Working group for corporate social responsibility in the banking and financial sector – what was done in 2009

• Educational profile for a bank employee::○ Cooperation with seven high schools from six cities;○ One-week’s/two-week’s practice for third/fourth grade students of the bank

employee profile in branch offices of the banks – members of the working group;

○ Visit to the National Bank of Serbia and the Institute for Manufacturing Banknotes and Coins for students of this profile;

○ Participation of representatives of banks-members of the Working group at the matriculation exam;

○ Elaboration of the cooperation plan with schools for the year 2009/2010. • Project Financial management for individuals:

○ Free-of-charge workshops for citizens; ○ Creation of teams: for workshops, for the preparation of the communications

strategy and lectures;○ Study visits to the Croatian Banking Association;○ Pilot workshop.

school; ○ Visit to the National Bank of Serbia and the Institute for Manufacturing

○ After several workshops in Belgrade, extension to other cities in Serbia; ○ Active promotion of workshops;○ Revision of workshop topics;○ Planing of workshops for 2011.

• Presentation of the “Design for everybody” of the European Institute for Design and Disability:o Accessibility of public/business premises and areas;o Presentation of standards for web presentation adaptation to all interested

companies and provision of information to AmCham members through their network.

• Appeal through media with regard to the International Day for Persons with Disabilities:o Promotion of the principle “All different, all the same”.

• Questionnaire on employment of people with disabilities composed by the International Labour organization:o Gathered data have served as a base for the selection of companies, which

would implement the program for the employment of people with disabilities;

o Base for the organization of seminars – workshops for social partners and interested companies.

• Partnerships within the framework of the working group: o Cooperation of Delta Holding with the Youth with Disabilities;o Cooperation of the Eurobank EFG with the Serbian Academy of

Sciences and Arts;o Support in the organization of the International Conference, the 39th

Annual General Meeting of the European Alliance of Muscular Dystrophy Associations by the Eurobank EFG and the National Bank of Serbia;

o Cooperation between the National Bank of Serbia and the Inclusive Society Development Center.

• Facebook page for the Working group:○ For the exchange of links from the internet, information and multimedia

files on persons with disabilities.• Foundation of an Advisory Body for the accessibility analysis.

• Accessibility of business premises and public areas:○ Familiarization with big cities in Serbia from the view of accessibility of

public areas (Nis, Novi Sad, Kragujevac);○ Promotion of the Advisory body that is analyzing the accessibility of business

premises and public areas (in the media, preparation of pamphlets);○ Organization of a round table / conference with participation of an inclusive

European city;○ Further cooperation with the Advisory body for Persons with Disabilities and

the Mayor’s office of the City of Belgrade. • Motivation and stimulation of persons with disabilities to actively look for employment:

o Active participation at events for employment of persons with disabilities;o Overcoming the animosity of employers towards people with disabilities

through the exchange of experience;o Education with regard to the use of respective terminology.

•  Support to members during the organization of conferences, which are important to the society and inclusion of people with disabilities in everyday life and work;

• Improvement in providing information to the public with regard to problems, position and possibilities of people with disabilities;

Environmental issues Working group

• Members: Balkan Community Initiatives Fund, Belgrade Business School, Carlsberg, Center for monitoring and evaluation, Coca-Cola Hellenic, Coca-Cola System, Energoprojekt, Erste Bank, Fractal, International Labour Organization, Vrbas Municipality, Serbian Chamber of Commerce, UNDP;

• Basic goals: o Improvement of the practice in companies – participants;oActive participation in the dialogue and creation of public policy and

programmes within the framework of joint actions/partner projects, which aim to increase the synergetic effect and give examples of good practice to the economy and society;o Promotion of 3 “ecological” principles of the Global Compact.

Environmental issues Working group - plan for 2010

• Promotion and establishment of an environmental protection system in organizations, which participate in the Global Compact in Serbia;

• Education of Global Compact members with regard to environmental protection: creation of material and organization of workshops;

• Analysis of best practice and knowledge transfer to all interested Global Compact members in the field of packaging waste management, recycling and energy efficiency;

• Support of events related to environmental issues (Earth Day, World Water Day, Supernatural Festival, Planetize yourself etc.);

• Continuing cooperation and exchange of experience and knowledge with organizations and associations dealing with environmental protection issues and initiation of new projects/programmes/activities with relevant actors in the society.

Working group for support in the preparation of the corporate social responsibility strategy

• Members: AmCham, ANEM, Banca Intesa, Balkan Community Initiatives Fund, Eurobank EFG, Erste Bank, Deloitte, Carlsberg, Center for monitoring and evaluation, Coca-Cola Hellenic, Delta Holding, Youth with Disability Forum, Fractal, Holcim, International Labour Organization, National Bank of Serbia, Siemens, SMart kolektiv, Societe Generale Bank, Telenor, Association of HR professionals, UNDP;

• The need to create this Working group arose from the necessity of members to form a platform at the national level in order to enhance further development and improvement of the corporate social responsibility in Serbia;

• The Ministry of Labour and Social policy has formed the Working group in order to prepare a draft of the Corporate social responsibility strategy (Global Compact is an associate member);

• The Working group for support in the preparation of the Corporate social responsibility strategy cooperates and coordinates its work with the Government Working group;

• Deloitte presides over the Working group (Erste Bank and AmCham are co-presiding).

Working group for support in the preparation of the corporate social responsibility strategy – plan for 2010

• Active partner to the Ministry of Labour and social policy in the creation of the Draft of the Corporate social responsibility strategy;

• To get from its members as many proposals as possible in order for the strategy to be more appropriate and to be designed in a participative way;

• To formulate and submit to the Ministry of Labour and social policy key standpoints of members with regard to the Strategy draft;

• To participate in public debates which shall be part of the strategy design process;
