ARCHA PRESIDENTS REPORT 2019
This was a very busy year for the ARCHA. We hosted a few new events and had lots of new faces
participating in shows and at clinics.
We took had our first Casino in December at the Deerfoot Casino. Many members volunteered to work
shifts. Thank you to everyone that took time from a busy schedule to make this happen. Long story
short, the casino realized over $67,000 dollars. There are restrictions on how the funds are spent. We
are expecting to have another Casino in the late fall of 2020. Thank you to Billie Jo Belt for initiating the
process for Casino approval and seeing it through to reality. Probably none of us understand the time
and energy that Billie put into this project.
The Mid March Blues Bash was fun for those who were able to attend. It did raise a goodly sum for Boyd
Wilsons medical expenses. It is a good feeling when people gather to help when health difficulty
threatens.
Clinics were well received again this year. Several specialized clinics were held this year as well as our
basic Cowhorse 101. We see many new people and also experienced competitors taking part. Quite
often becoming show participants or advancing in competition.
Schooling shows are also a welcome venue to help your horse get set early in the season or prepare for
the fall aged events.
Our membership increased this year and our weekend show participation was equal to 2017. Last year
was the most runs in recent history.
The Cowtown Derby had the most entries to date. Congratulations to all participants and the successful
winners.
The Alberta Snaffle Bit Futurity and Dave Robson Derby enjoyed a more relaxing schedule with one
added day. Practice works did not extend into the next day as sometimes in the past. We also hosted
the Canadian Supreme classes and paid out the associated monies.
The Stallion Auction raised the largest amount to date. These funds are totally directed to the Alberta
Snaffle Bit events.
Sponsorship was challenging this year as always. A substantial portion was product or in kind. This was
all used as prizes at shows and year end. All said, a good amount was raised. We would certainly
appreciate any help or suggestions that you may have.
Silent auctions at our major events contribute to our fundraising. We thank all contributors and buyers
for making these successful.
We thank everyone for being part of our Association. It will be what we the members enable it to be.

Old Business- Committee Reports and Evaluation of the 2019 Year Advertising ( Cristy )
The ARCHA once again advertised our events and champions in Western Horse Review. We also placed advertisements in The Claresholm Local Press and Nanton News. We were active, with the help of volunteers, on Facebook and Instagram and we would like to thank everyone that helped out by posting pictures, creating posters and generally sharing pictures, stories, results and show information. For those that don’t already know this, the ARCHA has a Facebook page and Shawna posts all the information you need to have before a show, including draw lists, stall assignments, patterns and show results.

Education and Promotion: ( Cristy)
The Alberta Reined Cow Horse Association offers one of its youth members a $500 Education Scholarship in memory of Roger Heintz. This Scholarship commemorates Roger’s significant contribution to the ARCHA, the cow horse industry in Alberta and his passion for educating and inspiring youth riders. This year’s Roger Heintz Scholarship was awarded to Laura MacMillian. Laura’s scholarship application this year included a timely essay on the importance and value of volunteering. This is the second time Laura has received the scholarship. All members of the ARCHA board would like to congratulate Laura on putting in all the time and effort to receive this award.
We are happy to award the Roger Heintz Youth Scholarship of $500 to Laura MacMillan
We are currently waiting on confirmation from the NRCHA before we are able to officially acknowledge the ARCHA affiliate youth members that will be the recipients of the 2019 NRCHA Youth Scholarships.
The NRCHA will award a $500 scholarship to the ARCHA Youth Bridle Champion and a $250 Scholarship to the ARCHA Youth Limited Champion in compliance with Youth Scholarship Program guidelines provided on the NRCHA website.

ARCHA Social Report 2019 ( Kelly) We had opportunity to gather a few times during the year at shows and separately. This year a first time event for the ARCHA was held . The Mid March Blues Bash took place at the East Longview Hall. The timing was later than we had originally planned and attendance was not large. Live music was provided by Mark Parsons Band. The best part of the event was that over $5000 dollars was raised for the Boyd Wilson medical fund. Boyd is one of our junior members who was in need of extensive medical treatments with constant travel and lodging required. With the support of a few special sponsors the event was a break even.
Steak dinners were held at the Cowtown Derby and Alberta Snaffle Bit Futurity.
Thank you to the volunteers that helped set up and monitor tickets. It is always good to relax and sit
down for a visit with fellow members. A large thank you to sponsor Bar TT Cowhorse's for wine and
cheese at the Cowtown Derby.
We held the second " Potluck Picnic " at our August Claresholm show. We all enjoyed great food brought
by the members and burgers sponsored by Dustin Grams Horsemanship. Bart and Terri Holowath
provided refreshments for the evening. The last of the group retired about midnight. A good time for
sure.
We are looking forward to 2020. We welcome any suggestions for upcoming events.
-Robyn Morrison made a motion that the Social report be accepted as presented, 2nd by Reece Ostroski.

2019 ARCHA Sponsorship Committee Report ( Lorne)
We completed this year with great shows and payouts consistent or higher with prior years. These
payouts and prizes are all completely from Sponsorship funding.
Most of our past sponsors were active with us again this year . Some even chose to increase their level
of participation. Several new sponsors were acquired with cash or in kind.
In kind sponsorships were used as show awards for Cowtown and Snaffle Bit. Snaffle Bit was expanded
to include the Dave Robson Derby , named for the funding received last year from the Robson family.
Our contract with Equistro expired this year and was not renewed. This did leave a good sized area to try
to make up. We did decide not to host Canada's Greatest Horseman event due to lack of a specific
sponsor and a small number of open bridle horses to compete.
Cats Picasso and Willow Creek Ag Society provided buckles for the shows that made up their series.
In summary, we had cash Sponsorship of almost $26,000 and in kind sponsorship of $23,500 value.
We sincerely thank all of our 2019 Sponsors and we need to support them when we are doing business.
The sponsors are the backbone of our shows.
Sponsorship is a large job for our Association and requires an association approach. We welcome any
help and ideas from the membership.

2019 ARCHA Show Report
Cowtown Derby
Cowtown was a great show this year. A large entry both in the Derby and horse show added to a very good payout . The added money was increased by $7500 to over $35,000. Derby entries were up 48 entries from last year and horse show was up by 27. In large part due to non pro participants. The event went smooth thanks to the many volunteers that help with everything from Silent Auction to awards
organizing and presentations.
Alberta Snaffle Bit Futurity and Dave Robson Derby ABSF and Dave Robson Derby was a very good show. You will notice the expansion of the name to include the Dave Robson estate contribution to the association. Also this year with the ending of the Canadian Supreme events in Red Deer, the cow horse classes were run in conjunction with the show. Unfortunately, the decision was made not to have Canadas Greatest Horseman competition this year. Partly due to the lack of a designated sponsor and also the smaller number of open bridle participants. Entries were down from last year but consistent with 2017, realizing that the Canadas greatest numbers were not present. The Futurity was down 12 and the horse show down 7. Last year was the largest Futurity on record. Due to the large entry last year and the big entry at Cowtown, the schedule was expanded to 4 days from 3. There are some scheduling adjustments to be implemented for next year. The extra day allowed for the days shows to be completed in a timely fashion and practice works did not extend into the early hours of the next morning. The added money was again increased and all divisions realized good payouts. The Casino money paid for cattle rent at Cowtown $14,250 and Alberta Snaffle Bit & Dave Robson Derby $18,900. So this reduced entry fees for Derby and Futurity $90 each and horse show entries $30 each. There is still $30 per head in trucking, feed and cattle handling that is not covered by the casino funds.
Weekend Shows
2019 saw a great group of weekend shows. There were a lot of new faces and a big entry in the non pro divisions. The Ranch Hand class has proven particularly popular as an entry level class to cow horse competition. The participants do seem to graduate to the next level in most cases. The ARCHA held two schooling/fun shows this year. Okotoks in April and Silver Slate in August. Both were well received and attended. Lower entry fees because no payouts and points were awarded at the August show. The NRCHA approved shows were a combined entry and payout this year. This made for slightly lower fees and better payouts but does require a NRCHA membership to take part. The ARCHA chose to operate the Ponoka shows this year. That allowed for higher and more prompt payout. Things went well even though there was not a profit in running it ourselves. Overall yearly show runs were down 75 from last year but more than 2017. MacMillan Carried Canadian Snaffle Bit Futurity Report ( Randi) The 2019 Canadian Snaffle Bit Futurity was an overwhelming success. This year’s event saw a change of venue, and was held in Ponoka as part of the Future Champions Challenge – a 9 daylong event that showcases a variety of futurity events. This year’s CSBF was also NRCHA approved, and included a two-go horse show, along with a futurity and derby class list. Entries for this year’s event were up from 2018, including a thrilling 18 Open Futurity horses – the largest futurity field in Canada in 2019, as well as host horses and exhibitors from Saskatchewan, Montana, and Alberta. The event had $22,500 in added money, and awarded more than $20,000 in prizes to our exhibitors, and paid out a total of $51,350. While the new venue and event had a few first year hiccups, the overall feedback was very positive, and many people expressed how much fun they had, and what a great event it was. We are looking forward to next year, with plans to remain in Ponoka with the Future Champions Challenge, and we hope to continue to build this show for 2020.
