To our participants, donors, volunteers and friends:

We are delighted to share our Fiscal Year 2017 annual report with you. Family Focus continued to expand program services while maintaining the highest standards of excellence. Among the highlights:

• Family Focus expanded early childhood development programs throughout our seven centers in Aurora,DuPage, Englewood, Evanston, Nuestra Familia, Highland Park/Highwood and Lawndale. Our HighlandPark center expanded to include Round Lake, bringing programs to a community with great need andlimited family services. This growth is due to strong and growing partnerships with federal, state andlocal government agencies, organizations and individuals aligned with our mission to nurture children bystrengthening families.

• Our programs continue to operate at the highest standards of excellence. The fatherhood program,Power of Fathers, in collaboration with Children’s Home + Aid, Metropolitan Family Services, and Fathers,Families and Healthy Communities, received national recognition from Mutual of America Foundation.The 21st Century Community Schools program in Lawndale received a statewide award for excellence.Outcomes continue to display excellent results, such as with our Family Advocacy Centers that works withthe Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS): only 1% of DCFS-referred participants were re-reported and required additional contact with DCFS in comparison to the Illinois average of 32%.

• Family Focus came through a significant financial challenge faced by many nonprofit organizationsthroughout the state of Illinois. When the state delayed and then ceased grant payments for workcompleted by Family Focus, advocates in state government and supporters came to our aide to avoid stafflayoffs and program disruption. We are grateful to our board, donors, staff and friends who stood by usthrough that disruptive time.

As important as the successes we achieve is how we execute our mission to nurture children by strengthening families. Family Focus works in the community to engage and educate caregivers on healthy childhood development and empower parents to be the teachers and advocates for their children’s healthy development. Everything we do is guided by the Principles of Family Support to work with the whole family in relationships built on equality and respect, affirming the cultural identity and individual needs of those we serve.

As we move into 2018 we extend our gratitude to our individual donors and Chicago’s philanthropic community for providing essential funding critical to our success. We look forward to continued partnerships this year.
