Alaska Industrial Hardware (AIH) broke ground this spring on their new 53,000 square foot store in south Anchorage and will incorporate the latest in sustainable energy design’s. The power tool department will be a store within a store at over 20,000 square feet. AIH is working with their preferred suppliers in designing displays

to fit the massive store. Other expanded departments will include Safety, Outerwear, Jan/San and Material Handing. The soft opening is scheduled for April 21st 2012.

Northeast Tool Supply quietly moved their Orleans, MA store to a new, larger facility on December 13, 2010. The new building is almost twice as big as the previous location. The grand opening was celebrated August 13th, 2011 with an Open House/Pig Roast. Many Sphere1 supplier partners were represented and the customer turn out was great. In order to support the company’s growth and better serve their customers Northeast recently hired an additional inside salesman, Larry Franklin, and outside salesperson, Mike O’Brien.

The August/September issue of Contractor Supply Magazine’s cover story featured Rainbow Fasteners. Kathy Rivers Pe-tersen, president and general manager, is the daughter-in-law of Dorothy Rivers the store’s founder. In 1975 Dorothy Rivers

was the first woman ever named Outstanding Small Business Person of the year by the U.S. Small Business Administration. “In 1983, Dorothy started me in the warehouse and I was hooked-I loved the business from day one. I learned job by job and in 1996 I bought the company. That was the goal from the day I started,” says Kathy. The article covers the company history, sales force, and is also a great testimonial for Sphere 1. “... that’s what we like best about Sphere1, the ability to try something new and see what it does. Sphere1 has helped us a lot that way because what works for the big boys doesn’t neces-sarily work for us,”

SASCO Fasteners, in Medford, Oregon, was asked to be the fastener supplier for the recent Extreme Makeover/Home Edition. Ark Build, of Medford, was the head builder for this amazing project, supervising the complete building of a new house for a deserving local family. “When I was asked to participate, I had no idea who the recipient family would be. It really made no difference in my decision to help, I was just glad to be there”, said Steve Dunham SASCO’s President. As it turned out, the recipient family was a family that SASCO had worked with some years before as a Sparrow Club sponsor, and Steve had just spoken with them earlier regard-ing donations to the local hospital foundation.

Framers, electricians, plumbers, mechanicals, struc-tural iron workers, masons, roofers and landscapers from the local area all donated their time. Local supply houses donated many needed materials. “The project was to build a new home in 108 hours, STRAIGHT! “ I knew that my role in this team effort was to be there when I was needed. We must have made 10 job site deliveries during the 4½ day “build”, including the week-end, and a 2:30am “midnight” bolt delivery”Having good local inventory, as well as the help of some of our key suppliers, made this

project go as smooth as any Extreme Makeover build ever, according to the show’s producers.

SASCO would like to thank supplier partners Powers Fasteners, Intercorp, Porteous Fasteners, Lenox Tool, Irwin Tool and Champion Cutting Tools for their assistance in this great project. The episode should be airing sometime in No-vember 2011.

Berlands House of Tools – August 31, 2011At least 100+ customers came through the store and Makita Big Rig. They sold many of the popu-lar LXT kits and created special orders for many new items. Free Rockstar drinks were available

inside the showroom and in the front of the truck which was very popular with the young contractors. All in all a great day for Berlands and Makita Power Tools.

Big D Bolt & Tool – September 23, 2011The Makita team rode with the Big D Sales Team to help promote the event. The day started out slow but they pulled it out in the end and they continued to make sales the following week as people came back to the

store to buy more products. The big success came after a showroom display redesign. The 24 ft section has a hammer stand tree and an area for concrete/metal saws. Big D went from a set of 30 tools to over 70. They have seen a dramatic increase in product movement since the installa-

tion of the wall. Previously undisplayed items are now selling such as compressors, miter saws, impacts and more cordless!

Brannen’s – September 21, 2011It was a great day for tool sales, 170+. They sold over $77,000 in tools and accessories during the day. Customers were treated to Rockstar drinks. includes John Whalen’s famous beans, along with Pork or Beef ribs, and beer brats. It is an authentic down home cook out. Coast does a tremendous job taking care of their customers.

The event drew over 1,500 people and netted Arrow and Milwaukee more than $130,000 in day sales. While this is a tremendous show, it only marks the beginning of what Milwaukee and Arrow ex-pect to be larger things to come. Simpson Strong-Tie Anchor Systems is proud to announce a logo change. As you know, Anchor Systems is a part of the Simpson Strong-Tie Company and for the past 15+ years has successfully helped the larger company in its efforts to reach more customers in the commercial, industrial and infrastructure markets. Because we are so committed to the commercial, industrial and infrastructure business, we want to grow our global brand in this area, so we’ve made the decision to brand all our product lines under the Simpson Strong-Tie (orange and black) logo - a brand that has built a 55-year history on strong customer rela-tionships and engineered, tested and field-supported products. Over the coming months, you’ll notice a new logo on our literature, signage, packaging, website and other marketing and sales materials.
