Annotated Bibliography Name: Citation: Barth, R. P. (2002). Outcomes of adoption and what they tell us about designing adoption services. Adoption Quarterly, 6 (1), 45-60. Annotation: Dr. Barth, a researcher at Stanford University reviewed literature on twins and other adopted children to determine if environment plays a significant role in the outcome of adoption. He found that environment plays a greater role in intelligence, personality, and health than expected and that the twins and siblings became more alike as they aged on intelligence tests. Children who were adopted after infancy had more emotional and behavioral problems, as well as lower academic performance, when compared to children who were raised by at least one biological parent. Children adopted in infancy had more emotional and behavioral problems, but did as well in academic performance. The author concluded that adoptive parents need better education prior to adoption and more resources after adoption. The article by Mandel and Sorthmann (annotated below) provides recommendations for the specific types of education and resources needed before and after adoption. (145 words) Use the submission form for the assignment and format the articles like this, use one paragraph and use a standard font such as Arial or Times New Roman, 12 font. The annotation should be no longer than 150 words. Make sure that you identify the credentials of the author and you need to compare this article with the others, as I did above. You also can see how that is done in the example at the Cornell site: http://olinuris.library.cornell.edu/ref/research/skill28.htm#what 1 Example
