sources because this is all facts of the prison management while the others are bias of peoples

    mind.

Henneke, Elizabeth. "Prison Rape Elimination Act." Texas"Criminal"Justice"Coalition, 1 Jan.

    2003. Web. 9 Dec. 2014. .

One of the major laws that passed down in the United States is the Prison Rape

Elimination Act that. The U.S Congress approved it on September of 2003. PREA is a federal

statute aimed at preventing sexual assault and victimization in juvenile facilities, adult prisons,

jails, lockups, and other detention facilities. The reason why this law was passed on was that rape

was one the biggest issues in prison. Since 1816, the same genders were place in the same

building with one another due to Elizabeth Fry. It led to more violence in prison such as sexual

triangle, where two inmates would fight over another inmate. The source brings out statistics that

prove that rape was the leading cause of danger in prison. It also brings out points of how no

juvenile should be any close to an adult due to danger. This source relates to my other source

because the management in prison has been improving and by passing this law, the rape inside

    the prison has decreased.

Hills, Holly, and Christine Siegfried. "Mental Health Services." Effective Prison. U.S.

Department of Justice National Institute of Corrections, 1 May 2004. Web. 9 Dec. 2014.

    .

In order for a prison to operate well, there must be a mental health service that can

rehabilitate the inmate. If an inmate is place in prison for a drug/alcohol addict problem, they

must receive some kind of treatment that can help them. The whole point of serving time in

prison is for rehabilitation that way when they are set free, they would not have the same habits

and problems. This source is important because it will analyze how important it is for prisons to

have mental health services for inmates. This source relates to the others because it talks about

how a good management inside a prison must be.

"Security Classification and Gang Validation." A Jailhouse Lawyers Manual. Columbia Human

Rights Law Review, 1 Jan. 2009. Web. 9 Dec. 2014.

    .

This source is helpful because it is explains the process when entering prison how they

now have an internal classification system but how they have a gang validation. This one of the

ways that prisons management has improved on, by determining what prison security level the

inmates are located. Gangs have been a huge issue in prison and in the source; it explains

everything they do to control it. This source goes along with the rest because it explains how

they developed a way to determine whether an inmate would need more supervision than the

others would. This source would be worth for using in my project because it would make me go

in depth of what inmates would have to go through when entering prison.

Seiter, Richard P. Corrections: An Introduction. 4th ed. Upper Saddle River, N.J.: Pearson

    Prentice Hall, 2005. Print.

This book will be a helpful resource to expand on and find more historical information

inside the prisons. The chapters I will mainly focus on are 10 and 11. Chapter 10: The

management of Prisons will explain how the correctional officers are treating the inmates inside

the prison. I will expand on some key points in these chapters such as internal classification

system, unit management, and the background information of how the management in prison

works. The source main point on this chapter is to define how the prison system handles arriving

inmates and how they are classified. Chapter 11: Prison Life for Inmates will briefly explain how

inmates are treated and the danger there is inside the prison. This source relates to my other

articles because it goes more in depth of how it is use in prison and how it has increasingly been

working. This source is worth using for my project because it is my Intro to Corrections books

and in class; we talk about how the prison system works.

"Prison Life: 5 Things Men Should Know." AskMen. Web. 11 Dec. 2014.

    .

This source is coming from the perspective of an inmate who was in prison. He gives

examples of how prison works and what is inside the prison. He begins talking about the prison

gangs and what new inmates experience.

Liptak, Adam. "Justices, 5-4, Tell California to Cut Prisoner Population." The New York Times.

The New York Times, 23 May 2011. Web. 11 Dec. 2014.

    .

This source does a great job explaining of how the state of California is experience

overcrowded inside prison. This is a real issuebecause it goes against the inmates right of the

eight amendments. This source is important because it connects to my main argument of how the

prison life is like and how it impacts the prison management.

Thesis: What is the prison life like?

Background: The principles of good prison management

Paragraph 1: I will be talking about the things you need to go through when entering prison and

    the treatment programs they offer

Paragraph 2: I will be talking about the harmful situations in prison like gangs and rape. Then I

will talk about the prison management has handled these situations.

Paragraph 3: This will be the counter argument where people will argue that prison management

is terrible because of the overcrowding.
