Anne Frank

An Abbreviated Timeline

Anne Frank is born on June 12, 1929 in Frankfurt, Germany. She is the second daughter of Otto and Edith Frank, who are German Jews.

Anne joined her older

sister Margot who had been

born 3 ½ years earlier.

Anne lived with her sister, mother, and father in Frankfurt am Main,

Germany until 1933 when the family decided to move to the

Netherlands. They came to this decision because of increasing tensions in Germany caused by the rise of Adolf Hitler and the

Nazi party.

September 15 - Otto Frank establishes his firm Opekta Werke in Amsterdam before

moving his family to Amsterdam.

Anne receives a diary for her 13th birthday in June of 1942.

The Nazi Invasion

After Margot receives a call up notice to report for deportation on July

5, Anne and her family leave their home forever and

move into the secret annex on

July 6.

Going into Hiding

On July 13, the van Pels family moved into the annex with the Frank family. The van Pels family was another German family that was living in Amsterdam. Mr. Frank had done

business with Mr. van Pels. They had a son a couple of years older than Anne.

On November 16 Fritz Pfeffer was the last resident to move into the annex. He was a German dentist with a Dutch wife.

After living in the secret annex for 25 months, the

Franks along with the van Pels and Frits Pfeffer

are betrayed and arrested. They are taken

to a police station in Amsterdam before being sent to the transit camp

at Westerbork.
