PROJECT DEFINITIONIn 1997 the Government of Turkey invited developers to bid for five power plants to be managed on the basis of Build Own and Operate. The power output would be sold to TEAS, the Turkish Electricity Authority. Ankara was initially awarded to the Anglo-Turkish Group Baymina, but in September 2001 Tractebel acquired 95% of Baymina, with the Turkish Mimag Group retaining the other 5%.The power plant is a 770 MW block with two GE Frame 9FA++ gas turbines, a tri-pressure reheat steam cycle using CMI HRSGs and an ALSTOM 260 MW steam turbine. Supplementary firing will boost steam turbine output when required by the grid.
THE CONTRACTIn November 2001 CMI was awarded a contract for the two HRSG’s which brings to 22 the total number of HRSG’s which we have supplied to combined cycle projects in Turkey. For Ankara the HRSG’s are a vertical, natural-circulation design of modular construction, with three live pressure outputs and reheat. Superheater/Reheater modules and HP drums were fabricated in Belgium. Other modules and drums as well as the erection on site were carried out by Turkish contractors working under supervision of CMI advisors.
PLANT OPERATIONTo be operated as a base load plant despatched by TEAS to whom all the power is sold under a 15-year contract with a guaranteed availability of 8150 h/year.
