After the first Anima’T last year, now is the time for consolida-tion. The last festival certainly confirmed that, on the Catalan audiovisual scene, animation productions have their own place in terms of both specificity and number and reach. It is therefore no surprise that the Ministry of Culture, the Ca-talan Animation Producers’ Association (Animats), DIBOOS, SITGES – International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia, Catalan Films & TV – PROA and Televisió de Catalunya have once again committed to organising this meeting point for professionals, talent and innovation. Equally important is the support of the institutions (ICEX, MEDIA Antena Catalun-ya, Barcelona City Council-ICUB, Sitges Town Council) and the link with Mobile World Capital. This clearly shows the strategic nature and wealth of opportunities that animation has achieved.This year, Anima’T presents a programme clearly aimed at less traditional formats in which animation is becoming a necessary presence. Examples include VOD services or tablets preloaded with content; both platforms, as expanding fields in their own right, promote and disseminate animation content with new social and industrial dialogues that are yet to be explored in depth.It is precisely in this area of the economy of creativity, which is developing at a hectic pace and on a world scale, where Cata-lonia seeks to position itself, while maintaining and expanding our historical link with the creative processes. Catalonia has also contributed new and unique approaches to all art forms. The animation sector is no exception, and neither will we allow it to be in the near future. Part of this national strategy is the desire to establish closer ties of collaboration and to generate new synergies internationa-lly. We have never been afraid of crossing frontiers, quite the opposite: we have always had confidence in the quality of our own abilities while, at the same time, being able to learn from the experiences of others. Therefore, open to the world, ready to share and keen to grow, we welcome this second year of Anima’T.

Grangel Studio, created by Carlos and Jordi Grangel, has become a veritable icon in the world of animation, design and advertising. Founded in the late 80’s, the work of Carlos and Jordi with star creators such as Tim Burton and their extraordinary track record as directors of a multimedia creativity centre, have led them to be considered ground-breaking artists and trend-setters. Among the projects they have contributed to, some of the most memorable are Kung Fu Panda (DreamWorks), Hotel Transylvania (Columbia) and Corpse Bride, one of Tim Burton’s most outstanding films.
