Pre-Vet Club

-Follow us on our Facebook page! You will find links from our Facebook page to many of our affiliates.

-Meetings will be October 20th, November 17th, December 1st. All meetings will be at 6pm in Mackay 117.

Block & Bridle -Next meeting is October 19th

-Dues need to be turned in by October meeting at the latest.

-Apply to be a committee chairperson, interviews start on the 28th.

-Several committees still looking for members.

Accelerated Genetics Internship Opportunities

1. Farm & Barn Intern- Responsibilities: Intern will work directly with bull and be exposed to feeding and care of animals. Requirements: Should have interest in animal production, previous animal handling experience. Candidate with ability to operate farm machinery is desired. 2. Sales & Service Intern- Responsibilities: Developing skills in artificial insemination and learn about reproductive services, gain experience in sales division, market penetration studies, and assist with progeny photography. Requirements: Experience with cattle, understanding of beef and dairy industry. 3. Marketing Communications Intern- Responsibilities: interviewing customers, writing feature articles, taking photos, and designing advertisements. Requirements: Proficient in written and oral communications, some experience with desktop publishing software, understanding of beef and dairy industry. 4. Laboratory Intern- Responsibilities: Work in semen processing laboratory with extender preparation and testing, analysis and quality control, computer entry, processing and freezing of bovine semen. Requirements: Be detail oriented and able to follow instructions. All internships based in Baraboo, WI. All applications due November 15th. Send cover letter and resume to [email protected]

2017 ASAS Science Policy Summer Internship Program

Veterinary Field Training Course

Location: Ometepe Biological Field Station in Nicaragua. Participating students will have the opportunity to travel to Nicaragua, learn about animal conservation and veterinary topics, and help run a two to three day spay and neuter clinic for animals in need. There will also be a focus on general wellness examinations on both clinic days and days leading up to and after the clinic for all manners of animals: dogs, cats, horses, cattle, pigs. Date and Location: October 27, 2016 in Des Moines. This fall, the Graduate College will host a workshop series for graduating seniors on preparing for Graduate School. The three workshops will include information on choosing and applying, navigating funding, the admissions essay, and transitioning/navigating the first year of graduate school. Mayo Graduate School created and sustains the oldest competitive NIH-funded Post-Baccalaureate Research Education Program (PREP) in the U.S. This program enriches PhD- and MD/PhD-bound post-baccalaureate students from backgrounds underrepresented in biomedical research, with the goal of a future biomedical research workforce whose diversity matches that of our country. Iowa Farm Manager and Rural Appraisers Scholarship

The Iowa Chapter of the American Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers will award up to five $1250 scholarships to undergraduate students for this academic year.
