CHANGES TO THEPSLE SCORING & S1 POSTING 2021 PSLE Cohort
© MINISTRY OF EDUCATION, COMMUNICATION AND ENGAGEMENT GROUP, 2016
WHY CHANGE?
• Reduce fine differentiation of students at a young age based on exam scores.
• Recognise a student’s level of achievement in each subject, regardless of how his peers have done.
WHAT THE NEW PSLESCORING SYSTEM AIMS TO DO
11
NEW SYSTEM
• There will be 8 Achievement Levels (ALs), with AL1 being the best.
• A student’s AL for each subject will reflect his level of achievement, rather than how he has performed relative to his peers.
STUDENTS WITH SIMILAR SCORES IN EACH SUBJECT WILL BE GROUPED INTO THE SAME ACHIEVEMENT LEVEL

Question from P1 parent (2016)
Are the final grades based on the
raw score each student receives?
Is there a bell curve applied to the
results?
NEW SYSTEM
• The PSLE Score replaces the T-score Aggregate.
• The PSLE Score ranges from 4 to 32, with 4 being the best.
• Compared to the T-score Aggregate, students are less finely differentiated.
4 SUBJECT ALs WILL BE ADDED TO FORM THE PSLE SCORE

1. CITIZENSHIP
(Singapore Citizens, Permanent Residents,
then International Students)
2. CHOICE ORDER OF SCHOOLS

15
Entry into affiliated schools
New – 2019 PSLE Cohort
• MOE will reserve 20% of places in each course
(Express, Normal (Academic) and Normal
(Technical)) at every affiliated secondary school
for application from students who do not benefit
from affiliation priority.
• Balance MOE’s commitment to preserving our
affiliated schools’ longstanding heritage and
ethos with ensuring all publicly-funded schools
remain open to all students, regardless of
background and connection16
