JD Malat Gallery 30 Davies St, Mayfair, London W1K 4NB +44 20 3746 6830 Andy Moses Andy Moses was born in Los Angeles in 1962 and was raised exposed to the abstract paintings of his father Ed Moses. Following this, he attended the California Institute of Arts from 1979 to 1981. At Cal Arts he experimented with performance, film, and painting. His exploration was influenced by the teachings of the conceptual artists Michael Asher, John Baldessari, and Barbara Kruger. In 1981, he moved to New York and worked under artist Pat Steir. Later that year, in his Chinatown studio, he developed an approach to process painting that was simultaneously abstract and representational. His work is based upon the relation between an image-idea-process and detailed research about praxis through the physical and chemical reactions of the materials. Moses exhibited in his first group exhibition at Artists Space in 1986 entitled ‘Selections’. His first solo exhibition in New York at Annina Nosei Gallery opened the following year in 1987. Moses has continued to exhibit his work in New York, Los Angeles, and across the world over the past thirty years. After moving back to Los Angeles in 2000, he refined and expanded the vocabulary of his imagery with reference to a palette of colours unique to the southern California landscape, painting processes, and interrelationships to the technical and natural world.

Andy Moses
Andy Moses was born in Los Angeles in
1962 and was raised exposed to the abstract
