ANDROID OS

• Android is a Linux-based operating system for mobile devices such as smartphones and

tablet computers.

• Android was developed by the Andy Rubin, Rich Miner, Nick Sears and Chris White in

Palo Alto, California.

• Android specially developed for applications.

• There are more than 1 million apps in Android market.

• Android was purchased by the GOOGLE in August 2005 for $ 50 million.

• The first working Android -powered phone was sold in October 2008

OPEN HANDSET ALLIANCE(OHA)

It’s consortium of several companies of 84 firms to develop open standards for mobile devices.

This group of companies are allowed to use source code of Android and develop applications.

Reason for Nokia not to develop Android Mobiles is Nokia is not part of OHA.

Members of OHA are not allowed to produce phones that run incompatible versions of Android.

FEATURES OF ANDROID

Android is not a single piece of hardware.

Android supports wireless communication using:-

3G Networks

4G Networks

802.11 Wi-Fi Networks

Bluetooth Connectivity.

Android is a multi-process system, in which each application (and parts

of the system) runs in its own process.

Android supports advanced audio/video/still media formats such as

MPEG-4, H.264, MP3, and AAC, AMR, JPEG, PNG, GIF.

Android lets you change your settings faster.

Interface that is better then the previous touch screen mobiles.
