Music Video Style & Iconography

Eminem also known as Slim Shady, is an artists that plays with words in his lyrics like a game. He is notoriously known to use tongue twisters at high speed and also known for the aggression in his voice. Most of Eminem's song show his aggression in his voice this is because when he talks has telling a story, not singing a song. After witnessing him live, its not an act he puts on he genuinely raps with aggression. Sometimes he has used his aggression for the wrong reasons, for example diss songs against other famous artist such as Mariah Carey, Justin Bieber and many more.

Voyeurism

Rihanna, Katy Perry, Britney Spears and Miley Cirus all use specific angles to show off their bodies and use sexualised close ups to promote their sales. It is very effective because Katy Perrys’ video has over a billion views and the rest all got over 100million views.

Visuals Amplifying or Contradicting Lyrics

Eminem's lyrics for his songs Stan illustrates what the music video is showing. The lyrics of the song tell a story and this is visualized through the video. It tells a story about an obsessed fan that will do anything to be like Eminem. The sound of rain and thunder adds darkness and fear to the atmosphere. When Stan writes letters to Eminem it is visually seen in the video.

Visuals Amplifying or Contradicting Lyrics

In Black Eye Pea’s song, where is the love, the music video portrays and reinforces the meaning of the lyrics. The music video amplifies the songs intentions of making people aware of the society through the use of visuals. Without the music video the lyrics alone would be ambiguous, however the music videos visuals express the meaning of the lyircs.

Visuals Amplifying or Contradicting Lyrics

Mark Ronson’s for stop me is contradictory from its lyrics. The lyrics are about love in a violent relationship and the lyrics create a strong statement to motivate individuals to stand up and repot domestic violence. The visuals show a drunk, homeless man who wears a pair of shoes that have the ability to control his movements. The visuals within the video and lyrics to this song are very different and this is a good example of a contradicting music video.

The music video to Labrinth ft Tinie Tempah – Earthquake is an example amplifying the beat to the music video visuals. The visuals of the music video amplify the bass in the song.

Inter-textual References To Other Mediums

This is Plan B’s song playing with fire. It has references to the movie to the film Ill Manors where it refers to a society that consists of bad people who influence young children and make Britain “broken”. This is a link between the ideas that are conveyed within the music video rather than a visual reference.
