In 2008, I resumed cycling as physical therapy after a catastrophic 2005 hip infection/amputation. 5 hip operations led to a 5-year recovery, using a wheelchair, walker & cane as mobility aids; before cycling gave me back my mobility, health and wellness again, helping me lose 37 lbs. over a year. For more details, check out my LinkedIn Profile: Robert J. Bob Brent, or Twitter: @BobBrentTO. Brandin O'Connor

Brief Biography I am a 26 year old articling student who lives downtown. I grew up in a small town outside of London, Ontario, and attended Queen’s University and Osgoode Hall Law School. I have been a proud Toronto resident for almost 5 years and an avid urban cyclist for 4 of them. I interned at a national law firm and I am currently articling at the Court of Appeal, where I was appointed law clerk to Ontario’s Chief Justice. I generally commute by bicycle, despite the challenges facing cyclists in the core.

I am a new member of Cycle Toronto but I am looking to be more involved. As I outline below, I have previously served as an executive of small, not-for-profit organizations dependent on fundraising. I also have experience in political organizing and community outreach. I enjoy photography, yoga, traveling, learning French and, of course, cycling on Toronto's on- and off-street bikeways.

Why the nominee should be a director of Cycle Toronto I am passionate about municipal issues, urban planning and the need for advocacy to ensure Complete Streets follow from the redevelopment of infrastructure in Toronto. At Queen’s I served as Deputy Coordinator of the student government's Sustainability Office, implementing a CFL lightbulb exchange and energy retrofitting program in the student village funded by a carbon offset surcharge on the student coach/bus service. I can bring new ideas, fresh perspective and enthusiasm to the Board as an open member.

I also have experience in advocacy and public/stakeholder relations. During my undergrad I worked as a programs officer for Service Canada and the City of London’s Recreation Department. Prior to law school I served as a special assistant to the Speaker of the House of Commons, Peter Milliken, drafting official correspondence and assisting constituents. During law school I competed at the US National and International Rounds of the American Bar’s Negotiation competition, representing Canada in Copenhagen and placing 2nd out of 16 national teams. I also served as student representative to my law school’s internal governing body. I have a demonstrated interest in identifying common ground and building consensus.

I am committed to working with others to build our organization. I was an active participant in Cycle Toronto’s Refer-a-Rider program this fall, recruiting fellow co-workers to the organization. At Queen’s I served as President of a campus political club, fundraising and sending the largest student delegation to the Ontario convention electing the party leader. Notably, I am no longer committed to any one political party. I have innovative ideas for reaching out to new Cycle TO members, such as campus outreach and staggered membership fees for youth members.

Specific Skills, Knowledge and Experience In addition to my skills in legal research, writing, oral advocacy, bargaining and negotiation, I have a political acumen and interpersonal skills that would lend themselves to a Board role. Working for the Queen’s Sustainability Office and the campus NDP, I served as a founding executive member to these small organizations dependent on creative fundraising solutions for their operating budgets. This year I joined the Sponsorship Committee of the Canadian Foundation for AIDS Research (CANFAR) Young Professionals Council, where I am fundraising for the organization's annual spring charity event and art auction.

While young and new to fundraising and management, I have demonstrated excellence and good judgment in the tasks I have undertaken and would value any opportunity to further develop my skills in serving your Board.

Chantelle Campbell-Sholzberg Brief biography I have been cycling in Toronto for over 20 years and commute by bike 48km from Scarborough to downtown Toronto. Cycling is more than just a pastime it’s a livelihood, however this past year I biked from Toronto to Montreal as well as a few other tours. I have a Bachelors of Science from the University of Toronto and have been volunteering with not for profit organizations for 15 years, including being treasurer for a regimental marching band and Hart House Archery. Why the nominee should be a director of Cycle Toronto Volunteering with Cycle Toronto for the past 2 years, I have seen the ins (being on the Strategic Planning Design Committee) and outs (recruiting new members and informing the public via Bike Watch) first hand. I have an active history of working on various committees and helping to run organizations. I currently sit on the ad hoc Toronto Cycling Advisory Committee of which Mike Layton hosts. Specific Skills, Knowledge, and/or Experience Professionally, I work for Mountain Equipment Co-op and am the coordinator of MEC Bikefest Toronto. I maintain and gain a variety of contacts within the biking community as well as seek and obtain funding for the event. I’ve developed skills and knowledge that pertain specifically to enhancing funding for organizations. I have 3 years’ experience on a granting committee of which I currently review hundreds of grants in both official languages on a national scale. This gives me great insight into how grants are received by granting organizations as well as how to write successful grants. As a Hart House treasurer, I write and defend budgets on an annual basis in front of a budget committee. We have been successful in maintaining and increasing our budget which is a feat in times of financial decline.

Being able to write and review grants, I would bring my funding experience to the Cycle Toronto Board. My passion for cycling and vision for the future of Toronto’s cycling infrastructure create a drive that I would like Cycle Toronto to take full advantage of.

Kristin Lillyman Brief Biography of Nominee My cycling story goes back a few years ago, before I became a ‘bike enthusiast’ and cycling advocate. I purchased a bike to ride recreationally in Vancouver, enticed by the seawall and ocean views. I quickly rediscovered my love for life on two wheels and started going beyond the seawall, using my bike to go from one place to another and to work. It had opened up neighbourhoods to me, it was freedom. I started to realize that my passion for biking had encouraged many of my friends and colleagues to start riding their bikes. A little guidance went a long way and I wanted to share my enthusiasm with more people and encourage others to ride, and what better way than through HUB, the cycling advocacy organization in Vancouver. I volunteered for the Bike to Work Week events, on the street team which promoted and celebrated cyclists, and I started writing the cycling blog for HUB on Vancouver is Awesome. It was a great way to connect with new people, learn from other cyclists, and share stories from the road. I have really enjoyed participating in cycling advocacy because it supports cycling, the people are friendly and enthusiastic, and there is a real sense of community.

I grew up in Ontario and studied Urban and Regional Planning at Ryerson University. I just moved back to Toronto after 5 years in Vancouver. In Vancouver, I worked in public consultation for TransLink, the transportation agency for the Vancouver region, where I focused on sustainable modes of transportation (esp 2 wheels!). In 2012, I was lucky enough to attend and lead a bike tour at the Velocity conference, the premier international cycling planning conference which was held in Vancouver. Currently, I am a Constituency Assistant for Ward 32 at the City of Toronto and have been participating in Cycle Toronto's 32 Spokes bringing oodles of event ideas.

In general, I just want more people on bikes. I want to show that is it not complicated, it's fun and convenient for everyone. Why the nominee should be a director of Cycle Toronto I am passionate about cycling and have energy to spare! I am experienced in cycling advocacy from Vancouver and can bring the West Coast bike enthusiasm and many creative ideas to Cycle Toronto. I advocate for wearing regular clothing while cycling to prove everyone can cycle anytime, anywhere! Specific Skills, Knowledge, and/or Experience I managed two budgets when I worked for Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation from 2008 – 2011. I have also coordinated many small fundraising campaigns and events as a volunteer coach. As a volunteer for HUB, I helped to sign people up for memberships and sell T-shirts to raise funds.

Michelle Robertson

Brief biography

I am a Chartered Accountant who started my career at PricewaterhouseCoopers and over the last 15 years has held progressively more senior financial roles in the media and entertainment sector. Currently, I have combined my passion for sports and culture with my strong financial expertise in my current role as the Director of Finance for the Organizing Committee for the Toronto 2015 Pan/Parapan American Games. I am very excited to be a part of a very important event for Canada and the City of Toronto that will celebrate Canadian athletes, while leaving a legacy of state of the art athletic facilities and infrastructure across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Over the past 7 years I have found my love for cycling and have accumulated 5 bicycles! I am an active member of the Lapdogs Cycling Club since 2010 and I race cross country for the Duke's Cycle Cannondale Lapdogs.

Why the nominee should be a director of Cycle Toronto As both an avid cyclist and driver in Toronto, I understand the importance of cycling and integrated cycling infrastructure in a busy city with limited public transportation. Cycle Toronto has made great strides over the past few years in improving cycling infrastructure as well as creating awareness about the importance of cycling infrastructure within a metropolitan city. I see this as a great opportunity to give back to an organization whose initiatives align with my personal values. Professionally, I am also looking to gain additional board experience to support my evolution as a senior finance professional. While I have a very demanding schedule over the next couple years leading up the Toronto 2015 Games, I believe that I have the capacity to focus on the finance initiatives of Cycle Toronto. I look forward to sharing my breadth of experience with the organization to enhance its financial practices. Specific Skills, Knowledge, and/or Experience I am a Chartered Accountant with 15 years of experience in various financial roles. I think my skill set and my passion for cycling and the City of Toronto will assist in supporting the goals and initiatives of Cycle Toronto by increasing the financial sophistication of the organization. I served a three year term as a board member for the condominium corporation for the Madison Avenue Lofts community in the Casa Loma neighborhood. During my term as the Treasurer, I led the budgeting and financial oversight processes for the corporation while acting as general board member on all other building related matters. For further information about my background and experience, please refer to my LinkedIn profile: http://ca.linkedin.com/in/michellerobertsonca I send my regrets for not being able to attend the Cycle Toronto Annual General Meeting on March 27, 2013. I will be in the mountains of South Carolina with fellow Lapdogs waking up my legs for the upcoming season! Good luck to all of the candidates.

Sabrina Bowman

Brief biography I have been an avid commuter cyclist for over 13 years. I have worked and volunteered for several community and not-for-profit organizations, including: - Ecology Ottawa (staff - fundraising, volunteer management,

hiring, office management, strategic direction) - Jane's Walk Ottawa (co-founder/volunteer) - Ottawa Riverkeeper (staff - project manager) - The Natural Step (staff - fundraising) - Food Forward (volunteer - fundraising advice) - The Soul of Money Institute (internship - major donor fundraising) - The Bike Kitchen San Francisco (volunteer) - SF Bicycle Coalition (volunteer) - EMERGENCY USA (staff - fundraising) - Environmental Defence (staff - climate campaign coordinator) - Peace and Environment Resource Centre (Board Member and current volunteer - fundraising and

strategic direction) I sat on the City of Ottawa's Environmental Advisory Committee for three years, and have always been an active civic volunteer. Why the nominee should be a director of Cycle Toronto I would be delighted to work with others in creating a more sustainable city that is a leader in non-automobile transportation. My strong background in fundraising, finances, and strategic planning could be an asset to the board, and I have a friendly, collaborative style of working with others. Fun facts: I built my first bike (with significant help) last year while living in San Francisco, where I also got a bicycle tattoo! I also rode through my first Toronto winter this year. Specific Skills, Knowledge, and/or Experience One of the reasons the board position caught my eye is because I love fundraising. I was the lead in fundraising at Ecology Ottawa, researching, preparing and applying for grants, starting and overseeing a door-to-door canvass, and building our individual donor strategy. I also did the bookkeeping for the organization. I continued fundraising at The Natural Step, and have been hired as an independent grant writer for several organizations. I spent the last year developing my fundraising knowledge, doing a major donors fundraising internship in San Francisco. I also worked for EMERGENCY USA, focusing particularly on Board fundraising and growing major donors. I believe fundraising is not just about the money – it provides an incredibly deep connection to an organization's supporters. What I would like to bring to the board is a focus on individual donors, particularly building a monthly donor base and looking at creative, innovative ways to boost membership and donations. Outside of fundraising, I have sat on the board of the Peace and Environment Resource Centre in Ottawa for two years. I work well with others, and would relish the opportunity to contribute to an organization doing so much to make cycling safe, accessible and enjoyable in Toronto.

An avid biker, Shawna believes in a city that promotes healthy and safe streets for biking. Why the nominee should be a director of Cycle Toronto I believe my experience and passion would be an asset to this growing organization. Specific Skills, Knowledge, and/or Experience - Construction of programs and logistics in concert with volunteer committee members, colleagues,

suppliers and clients to develop and execute critical paths that result in seamless execution - Preparation of communications materials (grant and sponsorship proposals, fulfillment reports,

Sukhy Hayre

Brief biography A certified management accountant with an in-depth corporate tax and finance background. My range of experiences start at working for large and medium-sized accounting firms such as Deloitte and Stern Cohen, and intertwine with industry ranging from publicly held mining corporations to a privately held marketing firm. A novice to city bike-riding, attempting to complete the Ride to Conquer Cancer in June 2013, I also play a little volleyball, and run on occasion. Why the nominee should be a director of Cycle Toronto I would like to be a director at Cycle Toronto, to help steer the organization into managing working capital in a financially sound direction. I would do this by looking at the source and use of funds, forecasting and budgeting, and working capital management on the treasury side of things. I would also help out in fundraising initiatives in order to facilitate the continuation of programs, campaigns and services provided by Cycle Toronto. Specific Skills, Knowledge, and/or Experience Most of my skill set is finance and accounting heavy from a for-profit point of view, which means my ideas would be coming from an opposite experience, which could prove helpful for Cycle Toronto. Although I have minimal fundraising experience going back to college days and high school, I have a plethora of ideas, and may be able to help reach out to potential corporate partners with my business background.
