BIOlifepatch – citizen initiative in art, science and technology: is an independent community-base organization working in creative and appropriate application in the fields of art, science and technology. It’s an organization run by multi-disciplinary people that reflects the active local creative community and the confluence of academic institutions of higher education in Yogyakarta Indonesia. In its' activities, lifepatch focused on educative practices on simple art and science approaches for the communities by developing appropriate creative and innovative technologies such as biotechnology, digital technology with the spirit of DIY and DIWO culture. lifepatch mission is to aid the development of local human and natural resources by building bridges of domestic and international collaboration platform which give open access for anyone to the sources of the research and development.

lifepatch was founded in 26 March 2012 by several people with different discipline background and practices. This made lifepatch have a strong interdisciplinary characteristic in their activities. Even

though it is a young organization, the collaboration between them have been established for years. Currently lifepatch is based in small house in Bugisan, Southern part of Yogyakarta, Indonesia

Their small house function not only as their studio and meeting room, but also as a place to conduct workshops. lifepatch organized most of their workshop an art and science in their living room, starting from simple coffee making workshop, open-source software learning, hardware making or even wine making. Most of their workshop approaches to alternative education in free culture and knowledge sharing with Do-It-Yourself (DIY) and/or Do-It-With-Other (DIWO) spirit.

lifepatch also do collaboration with formal institutions to conduct their workshop. They believe formal and informal education should accommodate each other in any background discipline

engaging wider range of communities.

Not only adults and teenagers, they also conduct workhops for childrens.

Lifepatch also collaborates with other creative communities to conduct creative research to try to identify, help, or solve the local surrounding problems by bridging art, science and approriate use of technology. One of the example of Lifepatch collaboration with local creative communities is Jogja River Project (JRP), an ongoing community project which started in April 2011.

In their artistic practice, lifepatch explores the possibilities of accessible and affordable technology to counter local and international issues of contemporary lives.
