Level Specific Tryout Information

Girls

Pool sizes may be modified according to expected roster sizes

U14’s will not tryout, but they will do 2 evaluation scrimmages. Tryout fee applied to team ice assessment.

Squirts

A, B1, B2 pools

Two B1 and B2 teams will be selected using a draft with the two head coaches.

We plan to field a C team

Peewees

AA, A, B1, B2 pools

We plan to field a C team

11 Goalies with 10 spots available

Bantams

AA, A, B1, B2 pools

5 Goalies with move-up

Selection Process

Coach SelectionOnly non-parent and returning A coaches are named prior to pool determination.Only parents of mandatory selection players will participate in pool play or team selection.

Two phase process1. Evaluation by Outside, independent judges.

1. Judges score based on skills / ability2. 1 of 3 sessions are 100% skill drills for Squirts, Peewee, U10, U12.3. Goalies have skill evaluation session.4. Scores used to determine pools and mandatory selections (AA,A, B1, B2)

2. Pool play – evaluation by coaches1. Teams selected by coaches2. Team selections approved by team selection committee3. Multiple teams at a single classification will be selected by head coaches

using a draft process.

Pool Size and Mandatory Selections

PoolsTop 22 rank skaters and 3 goalies or Approximately 50% more players than selections to be made

Top 5 rank skaters mandatory selections

Top rank goalie is mandatory if score is better than the next best by a significant margin (15%).

Each Pool is allowed one coach selection

Pools sizes may be modified for skaters or goalies

To avoid singling out the lower few

To provide approximately 50% more players selections to be made

Tryout Player / Parent Rules

Players must be signed into eval sessions more than 20min prior to start

Equipment requirements to participate:

Mouth guards must be warn.

Black or Andover socks.

Remove helmet stickers

Get your pinney # and color correct

Return your pinney to equipment volunteer in coaches room

Parents

No cheering, yelling

No contact with judges

Do not cross taped/roped areas: judges, coaches, bench

US Olympic Committee / USA Hockey Mandated training

All rostered coaches, locker room monitors, and some volunteers are required to take online training.

AHYHA will offer full season volunteer credit for full time locker room monitor.

Ice Scheduling

Key Dates•Traveling Teams Declared October 7th – 13th

• First practice will be within 2 days

•District 10 Game Scheduling• Oct 22nd – BAA, BA, BB1, PWAA, PWA, 12UA• Oct 24th – BB2, PWB1, PWB2, PWC, 12UB, Squirts, 10U• Nov 5th – 14U• Nov 11th – Mites

•District 10 Games Begin Nov 9th

•Ice will be scheduled & posted on AHYHA team websites as follows:• Ice through November 9th posted by Oct 3rd

• Ice through November 30th posted by Nov 1st

• Ice through December 31st posted by Nov 15th

• Ice through Feb 13th posted by Dec 1st

• Ice after Feb 13th will be scheduled weekly for teams still playing

Ice Scheduling

Ice Usage

•All teams will be scheduled a start time in the 7:00am hour, Peewee/12U and above teams will have end times after 10:00pm

•Home games will be scheduled at ACC whenever possible

•Practice scheduling guideline by level is as follows:• Bantams/14U – 67% alone, 33% shared

• Peewees/12U – 50% alone, 50% shared

• Squirts/10U - 25% alone, 75% shared

• Mites – All shared

•Ice utilization will be tracked monthly starting with November

•Ice scheduled and not used by the assigned team will still be charged to assigned team

•Ice returned in advance (7 days or more) will be posted on the Ice For Sale section of website, if sold/reassigned new team will be charged for the ice, if not original team will be charged for the ice

•Mites will be assigned a block of time for the whole season and assigned to the Mite Teams by the Mite Directors and Coordinators

Mite Game Referees

• AHYHA provides referees for all A, B and 8U Mite games

• Games are played cross ice through December and full ice beginning in January

• Cross ice games require 1 referee, full ice games require 2 referees

• Looking for at least 8 referees

• Need to be Level 1 Certified• Register with USA Hockey

• Attain an open book score of 35/50

• Attend and complete an officiating seminar administered by USA Hockey

• Open to skaters 12yrs or older

ACC Expansion

AHYHA continues to work with the ACC Commission, the City Council and the High School to evaluate and advocate for an added sheet of ice.

City of Andover is performing a City Campus Master Plan Study. • Three options evaluated. • All three options include a multi-purpose facility including a sheet of ice.

It is critical that the Hockey Community is heard. Be vocal!• Is community support for Hockey important to you?• Does the current ACC meet your needs?
