Welcome to Fieldstone Farm, one of the preeminent therapeutic riding centers in the nation. With the help of horses, people with disabilities achieve gains that seem almost impossible. Please review our materials and see for yourself the impact this program has on the lives of so many. Then, consider how you can help sustain this program in the future. We hope you will join those of us who have already committed to the Victories Forever Campaign, endowing the future of Fieldstone Farm.

Fieldstone Farm was founded in 1978 as the Chagrin Valley Therapeutic Riding Center with two horses. Today, more than 250 weekly volunteers, and 40 full-time and part-time staff, along with 35 specially-trained horses help participants to challenge their limits, break through barriers and achieve goals such as increased independence, strength, self-esteem, motivation, balance, coordination, socialization and accep-tance. Horses give people with special needs the opportunity for emotional and physical healing in ways that often are not possible with traditional methods. Children, adults, seniors and veterans frequently experience a rare opportunity to enjoy the outdoors, have fun with friends, excel at something, exercise or just be themselves. For all, it is life-changing.

Fieldstone Farm helps more than 700 people improve their emotional and physical wellness through interactions with our horses each year. Since our founding 36 years ago, we have helped thousands of people ranging from age two to seniors, with all types of challenges, achieve what they thought was impossible.

Children have taken their first steps after riding our horses. Others have said their first words. And all students and their families have found hope, joy and acceptance, as well as a welcome respite from the trials of living with a disability or special need whether it is autism, depression, anxiety, memory loss, blindness, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy or multiple sclerosis, among others.

Helping people achieve goals they never thought possible

Fieldstone Farm is one of the largest of more than 750 therapeutic riding centers in North America and has received Premier Accredited status from the Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship International (PATH) for our compliance with more than 70 stringent quality and safety standards. Only one in five organizations achieves and maintains this status.

Professionals from across the country seek to emu-late Fieldstone’s outstanding, innovative programs. Continually breaking new ground in the field of equine therapy, each year the expert, highly-trained staff helps students walk better, speak more clearly, sit taller, gain strength and develop character.

Annually, Fieldstone Farm trains dozens of individuals from across the country to become certified instructors who then touch countless other lives. Instructor candidates learn from the best and experience success as the certification rate at Fieldstone Farm greatly exceeds the national average.

Leading the industry for more than 35 years

Fieldstone Farm started the first alternative high school on the site of a therapeutic riding center. At Gaitway High School, the unique farm environment and the power of the horse connect young adults who have been unsuccessful in their more traditional home schools. A full academic program coupled with vocational education instills both job and life skills.

Some of the students come to Gaitway with psychosocial issues, such as anxiety or depression, social issues or learning disabilities. For these students, interaction with the horses in the barn enhances growth and development and provides the motivating factor that has previously been lacking in their lives. Results speak! Attendance rates have jumped from an average of below 20 percent to greater than 90 percent and every student has an improved grade point average of at least 1.5 points.

According to the 2012 Census, one in five people living in the United States has some form of disability. And while this percentage has remained relatively constant, the number with disabilities, as well as those who are facing poverty while requesting assistance, has risen. Fieldstone Farm serves the counties of Cuyahoga, Geauga, Lake, Summit and Portage in Northeast Ohio and is devoted to serving those with special needs.

Fieldstone Farm has grown from a program focused on helping people with physical disabilities to a center of excellence addressing a wide range of disabilities including emotional challenges and brain disorders such as autism, anxiety, depression and PTSD, among others.

Fieldstone Farm partners each year with more than 40 nonprofits and schools that benefit from our services. “Riderships” are funded by earmarked donations. It costs approximately $2,162 per student, per year, to offer therapeutic equine programming.

Fieldstone Farm has never turned anyone away for financial reasons.

“While the physical workout Carson

gets on horseback helps increase

his strength, stamina and stability,

the emotional value is far greater.

Being able to remove some of the

“therapy” from his activity has been

so refreshing. Carson gets the

workout that he needs without even

thinking about it. Any relief from the

constant reminder of his illness is a

welcome respite.”

People with disabilities hear the words “can’t” and “don’t” daily. At Fieldstone Farm the culture of the program celebrates what students “can do!” Families of students find a respite from daily life, where they often discover relationships that help them face the sometimes difficult task of parenting a child with special needs or caring for an adult with special needs.

Equine programs are tailored to the specific needs of individual groups with physical, cognitive and emotional disabilities. Programs include: therapeutic riding, hippotherapy (physical therapy on the horse), carriage driving with wheelchair accessible carriages, senior and veteran specific offerings, summer camp and Gaitway High School.

Our horses reach people in unimaginable ways

Fieldstone Farm is a streamlined, efficient and productive organization. There are no excesses in the budget. It contains only the expenses necessary to conduct the many programs for an extensive student base. In addition to generous donors, Fieldstone Farm relies heavily on volunteers. Contributed time by volunteers equates annually to a value of $500,000. The volunteer program is one of the strongest assets in providing services. Fieldstone Farm staff work closely with volunteers and the program’s reputation has led to the creation of an extensive waiting list of people interested in volunteering.

When asked why they volunteer, people provide stories of the benefits they have received within their own families or circle of friends, the satisfaction they experience from seeing the results of the programs for the participants and the personal reward they feel from helping others. This dedicated group of individuals even organizes their own annual fundraising campaign and achieves very strong participation.

“The students are so inspiring to me. I feel it is a privilege to be

a bright spot in their day. Whether it is watching them take pride

in a new accomplishment, or bond with a horse, I know that

time spent here has enriched their life. Seeing the pride and

joy on the beaming faces of their families and friends makes

you truly appreciate the ripple effect our program has

on people’s lives. For that I am eternally grateful.”

Lynne Netschke, Volunteer since 2007

Volunteers make our programs possible

The vision of Fieldstone Farm is to provide the most innovative and effective therapeutic programs, equine-oriented training, education and research for people with disabilities. The current Strategic Plan identifies the following priorities:

• Deliver exemplary programs that add value to the lives of our participants

• Provide an outstanding environment that attracts, develops and retains energized and effective employees, volunteers, board members, and horses

• Achieve financial stability and growth through broad-based funding and fiscally responsible resource management

Providing VICTORIES FOREVER to the growing community of people with special needs requires planning for the long-term sustainability of Fieldstone Farm. The vision of the Board of Trustees and the Strategic Plan for Fieldstone Farm establishes an increased goal for the Endowment Fund that will diversify the organization’s income and ensure its continued future success. Every generous donor can rest assured that this campaign is about the future sustainability of Fieldstone Farm.

The VICTORIES FOREVER Campaign will:• Be a perpetual source of support to Fieldstone Farm• Achieve a goal of $3 Million • Assure continued programming in the areas of therapeutic

riding, carriage driving, hippotherapy, emotional wellness for seniors, youth and veterans, field trips and other healing activities

• Enhance excellence in both staff and programs

Our vision drives us

Fieldstone Farm is committed to raising $3 million now to add to the existing Board-designated Endowment Fund. That fund, managed by the TRC Foundation Board, a savvy group of investment-minded professionals, currently has assets totaling $3.4 million. The Board of Trustees has set a long-term goal of building the endowment to reach $10 million. With an annual five percent payout policy directed to supplement the Fieldstone Farm annual budget, as the Endowment Fund grows to the desired goal, these additional resources will sustain, develop and improve programs.

As you can see from the data below, the current endowment fund has committed more than $1.8 million to the operating program over the past 18 years, which equates to approximately 10 percent of the annual operating budget.

The Fieldstone Farm annual budget is just over $1.6 million. Student fees make up just under one quarter of this budget and the generous annual donations of corporations, individuals, foundations and community organizations, along with annual fundraising events and endowment support represent the remainder of the required revenue. As the economy causes budgets to tighten and expenses associated with special needs equipment and therapies to increase, additional support is critical. Support for Fieldstone Farm gives all participants the opportunity to experience the benefits of these exceptional programs.

Our endowment supports the future
