June | 2017
June’s cruise-in was very HOT! Luckily we brought two fans to help out. We had one new person join the club, welcome Pete Carpenter! We also had some of our members renew their membership. Manny had a good time giving away all the stuffed animals to the kids and the big kids for their furry babies.
Speaking of Manny he will be having surgery next Wednesday, July 5th. He will be having either a partial knee replacement or a full knee replacement, it depends on what the doctor finds when he gets in there. So please say a prayer for Manny and Dr. Massy to do a good job!
Besides our regular cruise-ins our next event is our Fall Fling on September 30th. This is our 2nd Annual Fall Fling. Stable View Farms pays for our trophies and dash plaques and the spectators pick the winners for the day. We have 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize. Stable View is a beautiful farm and has a great horse show the day of our car show. This show is $20.00 per car. Stable View will match what we bring in and donate it to the Cumbee Center. So the more cars the better, please help spread the word. The address is 117 Stable Drive, Aiken, SC 29801. Last year we did not have as many cars as I would have liked, but it turned out very nice and Stable View donated way more than we brought in.
We were very sorry to hear that Skipper Perry had passed away. He had been a member of Aiken Horsepower for many years. Skipper always led the club in the Christmas Parade on his sedgeway he had decorated as Santa’s sleigh. RIP Skipper, we will miss you.

Those interested in vintage drag racing may want to check out the Southeast Gassers Association. The Association holds races under 1967 NHRA Rules. From their website: We at the Southeast Gassers Association share a passion for representing drag racing as it was in the 1960’s. In doing so, we must be very strict on the rules of what will and what will not be allowed with in the association. We understand that several nostalgia themed racing associations are already in existence, and we are striving to be different by not allowing some of the commonly used modern parts to infiltrate our cars. We desire for our cars to represent the gassers of the 1960’s as close as possible. This means exciting wheels up launches, drivers banging gears with their four speeds, as well as the car’s appearance while sitting in the pits. The 1960’s produced some of the most exciting times in drag racing history and we are doing our best to preserve those times at the track. We welcome anyone to look at our rules, build a gasser within the guidelines, and come have fun with us.
