GAME TIME: 7 p.m. SERIES: St. Thomas leads 1022 SERIES STARTED: 2000 LAST SEASON: Last year the two teams split the series in St. Paul. The Cobbers pulled off the big upset in the first game when Concordia goalie Jenna Johnson made 40 saves to earn a 10 shutout win over the sixthranked Tommies. For St. Thomas, it was their first MIAC shutout loss in four seasons. Hannah Impola had the gamewinning goal for the Cobbers at 11:34 of period two as the Cobbers halted a sixgame losing streak vs. UST. St. Thomas outshot Concordia 4022. In the second game, the Tommies struck for six goals in the second period en route to an 81 revengefilled victory over CC. UST took a 10 lead into the decisive middle period before erupting for the sextet of goals. They scored five of the six in the first seven minutes of play in the period. The shots on goal in the game were a lot more even than the final score gives credit. For the game, UST outshot CC by a narrow 3634 margin. Only one of the Tommies’ eight goals was scored on the power play. UST went 1for5 on the manadvantage situations while the Cobbers were 0for5 in their power play chances.

GAMEDAY GAME NOTES COBBER SLAP SHOTS ØConcordia heads into tonight’s game in the thick of the MIAC playoff chase. However, the Cobbers are sitting on the wrong side of the pack of five teams that are separated by four league points and are fighting for the final two playoff spots. CC currently has nine league points and is in eighth place in the MIAC standings. The Gameday staff projects that the Cobbers will have to win at least four of their remaining six MIAC games to have a chance at postseason play. Ø Concordia goalie Maddie Haroldson’s shutout last Saturday was the first of the year for Concordia and first since the team blanked St. Thomas on Feb. 17 of last season. Haroldson is currently second in the MIAC in save percentage and third in goals against average in league games this year. She is stopping 92.7% of the shots she faces and has a goals against average of 2.14 in her 364 minutes played this year. ØBrandie Dunn’s two goals last Saturday jumped her into the top three in the team in scoring. She now has two goals and seven assists for nine points this year and is tied for the team lead in scoring. ØThe Cobbers continue to excel in special teams situations. CC is currently second in the league in penalty killing and leads the MIAC in combined special teams. Concordia is killing off 88.3% of their shorthanded situations and has a 55.6% success rate on all special teams opportunities. TOMMIE BACKHANDS Ø St. Thomas enters this weekend’s series having lost three of their last four games. That statistic is a little bit deceiving since the Tommies faced two teams that were ranked in the top ten in the nation and a third that is receiving votes in the national poll. UST lost 41 to non ranked UWRiver Falls at home on Wednesday. That game came on the heels of the Tommies’ series split with thirdranked Gustavus last weekend. UST lost at #9 UWStevens Point 60 directly before the series with the Gusties. Ø In the series with Gustavus, St. Thomas lost 80 at home but then turned around and beat the Gusties 10 on the road. That trend has been the norm for UST lately as they are 61 on the road in their last seven away games and only 33 at home during that same stretch. Ø St. Thomas forward Ashley Reinhardt (JREagan) was named MIAC Player of the Week Jan. 15. Reinhardt scored a thirdperiod that goal broke a 22 tie and lifted the unranked Tommies to a 32 road win at No. 9ranked Wis.River Falls. Reinhardt also had an assist. It was the first goal of the season but 30th on the career for Reinhardt, who now has 34 goals and 33 assists in 72 career games. UST is 53163 in her era. Reinhardt also won the MIAC weekly honor in January 1995 as a freshman. Ø The Tommies have received a boost from their freshmen class. Jill Kobow of Coon Rapids has nine goals and 10 assists in 18 games; Kara Ledel of Shakopee has seven goals and two assists, including a hat trick in the Jan. 19 Augsburg win; Rachel Zilles of Stillwater has nine assists; Kristine Beese of Coon Rapids has three goals and two assists; Jenny Schnaible of Burnsville has two goals and 11 assists; and goalie Lauren Bradel of Bemidji is 62 with a 2.17 GAA and a .915 save percentage and four shutouts. Ø Over the last five years, St. Thomas has become a consistent top10 nationallyranked team. The Toms' 75125 record in MIAC play in that span includes nine onegoal losses. The Tommies reached the conference playoff finals in each of the last four years with one title and three onegoal losses to Gustavus (two in overtime).

COBBER LAST GAME RECAP Bethel 0 at Concordia 2 – Saturday, Feb. 3 The saying goes, "better late than never," and that's what happened for Concordia in their 20 victory over Bethel on Saturday. The Cobbers were finally able to beat Royal goaltender Beth Spurrier after Spurrier held Concordia scoreless for three straight games and over 188 minutes of play. A pair of Cobber players helped push the team over the edge and back into the win column. Senior forward Brandie Dunn scored both CC goals and freshman goalie Maddie Haroldson made 29 saves to earn her first collegiate shutout.
The end to Spurrier's shutout streak came without a spectacular play or outstanding individual effort. In fact, it came off the stick of Dunn, who had not scored a goal all season. The straw that finally broke the camel's back came at 8:02 of the first period while the Cobbers were on the power play. It was a routine shot from the point that found its way onto Dunn's stick and caught Spurrier out of position. Dunn was able to put the puck into the net before Spurrier could recover.
Having finally found a way past the Bethel netminder, Concordia added to their lead 10 minutes later when Dunn notched her second goal of the game, and the season, at the 18:35 mark on an assist from Ceara Bergsrud.
Sparked by the twogoal outburst in the opening period, the Concordia defense tightened up and refused to allow the Royals any quality chances around the Cobber goal. The teams then skated scoreless for the final 40 minutes to give CC their fourth league win.
In the end, Concordia held a decided advantage in shots on goal, outshooting the Royals 4029. CC went 1for5 on the power play, while Bethel was held scoreless in their five attempts.
TOMMIE LAST GAME RECAP UWRiver Falls 4 at St. Thomas 1 – Wednesday, Feb. 7 (Courtesy of St. Thomas SID) Amber Lindner stopped 20 of 21 shots in goal and Abby Sunderman had a goal and an assist to lead visiting UWRiver Falls to a 41 victory over St. Thomas in nonconference women's hockey play Wednesday night in Mendota Heights.
The Falcons (1254) also received two assists by Cassie LeBlanc and goals from Stefanie Schmitz, Kelly Jensen and Jennna Scanlon. They avenged a 32 home loss to the Tommies incurrred Jan. 9.
Freshman Jill Kobow scored with 4:23 to play for UST to avert a shutout. Freshman Lauren Bradel had 23 saves in goal.
St. Thomas 1 at Gustavus 0 – Saturday, Feb. 3 Marie Omann's shorthanded goal seven seconds into period two stood up as the game winner as the visiting Tommies stunned No. 2ranked Gustavus 10 in Saturday's MIAC women's hockey game in St. Peter.
The Toms (117 overall, 93 MIAC) avenged Friday's 80 home loss to the Gusties (172, 111). UST was outshot 3918, but freshman goalie Lauren Bradel stopped 39 shots in the shutout win.
Breana Scavo had 17 saves for the Gusties.
Omann, a freshman from Rocori, now has two collegiate points both short handed goals. She had a shorthanded tally to open the scoring in a 32 win over Bethel in December.
The Toms halted three long Gustavus streaks a 17game win run on the season, a 33game MIAC unbeaten streak, and a 34game home ice unbeaten streak. The Toms also ended Gustavus' bid to become the first conference hockey team to finish 180.
