forms and conventions of real

media products?

Album Cover

• The close-up of the artist is used as a promotion

tool, seeing as this is her debut. It definitely is a

signature convention of real R&B products; it

highlights the importance of the singer and how

she/he is the only one is contributing to the album

musically.

• The colours I used are fairly bold, it is used to catch

the attention of the audience. Blue and white also

represents innocence and purity which is an

element that Xaviera works with.

• The notion of looking away from the camera is

inspired by Alicia Keys, as shown above, it does

reiterate vulnerability.

Song List

• There is a burst of colours, which contrasts with the simplistic front cover. When it comes to vibrancy in R&B products this is used as a convention to some extent, seeing as the content if fairly passionate and emotional, stereotypically the audience would expect quite dull colours to reflect this.

• I have taken into account where I had to place the text in order to make it clearly visable when on the had copy, my choice of colours had to be chosen carefully as I did not was it too look to busy.

Lyric Booklet Insert

• There is an artificial background used upon this picture, in order to connote this distant future that the artist is looking for, hence her main single „I Gotta Know‟. However, it does contradict itself in a sense that it is artificial, therefore so is this hope she has.

• We can often find animated features upon digipacks of an indie genre, which goes against the R&B convention, more so amongst female artists. I feel that challenging this convention help to highlight my focus points and keeps the audience engulfed.

CD Insert

• This picture if fairly simple, the only use of editing is the water-colour effect to amplify the nature in the background; representing growth.

• There is not a fair amount of conventions used upon this, however, the artist once gain looking away from the camera is a sense of weakness, maybe a degrading aspect of feminism. This technique has been amongst female R&B artists such as Melody Thornton, Jennifer Hudson and Monica.

• The conventions are similar to the CD Insert as it is the

same picture.

• The font is delicate reflecting the kind of person the artist

is and the free flowing music that is being offered to the

audience. This convention is very common as it a

common theme that creates a representation.

• The colour, stereotypically, quite „girly‟ and feminine.

• The placing of the text does not the distort the notion of

the audience being able to read into the emotions

conveyed through the picture.

• I tried to use different fonts and sizes to elaborate on

promotional points such as “available in stores on

Monday!”
