Poster Ideas

Themes & Ideas – • The main narrative strand is Lizzie being

kidnapped. So an idea for the poster could be a ‘Missing Persons’ poster featuring the image of Lizzie. Again this would give some insight to what is actually to come in the episode. This option should be quite bright and bold, making it stand out as if it was a real missing persons poster.

• Keeping with the idea of the main narrative strand, the poster image could contain the police officer, and some of Lizzie’s close friends searching for her in the woods. Again the image should be quite dark and sinister.

• Adam could be standing near Walton Pond on his own, staring at it. This could maybe then give insight or to foreshadow what will happen in the trailer, which of course is seeing him laying in the water, overdosed.

Tagline –• ‘Drugs are a killer, only you can

change’ – This tag line works with the sub-plot to do with Adam’s drug abuse, and he is the only one who can change his life.

• ‘The hills have eyes’ - Connotes that whatever happens around Walton Hill, it is always seen. Someone will always know something. This connotes a feeling of mystery, secrecy and insecurity.

Point of Call – The point of call information will include the date of when the soap will be aired, along with the time (Most likely 8:30pm). The poster will also need to include the BBC Two logo. This is vital for the audience to see because this will increase the audience for the first airing of the brand new soap.

Images Needed – • Walton Pond setting. Adam

would need to be standing right on the waters edge. This would be the scene before he OD’s and is found laying in the water. This image would foreshadow what happens in the trailer.

• Image of the woods where Lizzie was taken. Lowered contrast of the woods to connote an eerie feeling. Silhouette of a figure either close to the camera or far away in the distance. This illustrates the secrecy of those who kidnapped Lizzie.

Synergy with Social Media –• Use of social media on the poster can cause mass

marketing of the new soap. Using Twitter you can start a Hashtag trend where you tweet ‘#Something’ and you could be entered to win a prize. However, by doing this it is building awareness of the soap.

• Facebook links may cause the audience to view and favourite the soap page. New updates to the soap could be posted there, which the audience can then share to their friends, continuing to build awareness of the new soap.

Other areas to consider – manipulation techniques, shot types/camera angles, cross media convergence etc.

Other – I would intend to use a low angle shot, so that there are connotations that the kidnapper has ‘power’ over the police and Lizzie’s friends. I also do not intend to use a lot of manipulation on the images, only just to lower the contrast to make the image slightly darker and mysterious.

Mind Map - ConclusionIn order to move ahead with Ancillary Product 2 I need to go ahead and take the pictures which I will use for this poster. I will have to take multiple images for the various different ideas that I have. I would need to have the pictures of Adam waiting by Walton Pond, which can be gathered on the filming day. But I will also need the pictures of Lizzie to put in the ‘Missing Persons’ poster if I decide to do that design. These pictures can be gathered anytime in the near future when we start Ancillary Product 2.

I’ll also obviously need to look for some specific props, which will most likely be similar to the props that we will be using on the actual filming date. However for myself I will need to download suitable fonts to use on the poster. I have yet to research the different fonts I want to use. However they must portray an eerie feeling to the audience.

I will also use Adobe Photoshop CS5 in order to create the poster. This is because Photoshop is a great image manipulation and design software that I have a lot of experience in using from last year at AS Level when I created by magazine.
