Silver Alexander the Great drachm coin struck at the Amphipolis mint sometimebetween 315 BC and 294 BC. The front carries a likeness of Hercules adorned with thehead of the Thespian Lion, the killing of which was one of his great feats. It is believedthat Alexander was the model for the face of Hercules in these coins. The reverseshows Zeus enthroned with an eagle perched on his outstretched right hand and ascepter in his left. If his legs are crossed it would indicate that the coin was struckposthumously (struck after the death of Alexander). If legs are placed together it would

indicate that the coin was struck during the lifetime of Alexander. In the right f ield aninscription meaning (Money of) Alexander, while on the left field contains the marks or symbols of the mint's Magistrates.
