After the Qin’s empire fell the Han dynasty came to power. Europeans prized Chinese silk and they traded gold and ivory. Gemstones and glass for silk, jade, pottery, bronze and lacquer ware.

Ancient Chinese Writing

The first written records appeared in China around 1766 B.C. At this time people used a system of writing that had about 3,000 characters. Starting around 221 B.C. many advances in Chinese writing were made. They wrote with ink using a brush. Different colors of ink could be made.

The Chinese Zodiac is based on the Chinese calendar. There is a legend that the zodiac animals were chosen by the Jade Emperor of Heaven. He invited all animals to participate in a race. The first twelve would have a year in the Chinese calendar named after them. Since then, people have looked at the zodiac to understand their personalities.

There was a rule that the quality of your clothing was according to your class in society.

Kimonos are generally made of silk.

Hinduism developed gradually over thousands of years. Many cultures and religions helped create it.

Hinduism is the major religion of India. It is one of the oldest living religions in the world. The roots of Hinduism date to prehistoric times in India. About 870,000,000 people practice Hinduism.

Buddha was a spiritual teacher who founded the religion known today as “Buddhism”. His exact birth date is unknown, though his birth date is usually told as being somewhere between 563- 411 B.C.

Buddha is thought to have born in Lumbini, which is in modern-day Nepal and raised in the small kingdom of Kapilavastu. According to traditional biographies, Buddha’s father was King Suddhodana.

Buddha is most often described as a god, though he is also described a god-like, the avatar for a god, or the reincarnation of a man named “Lao Tzu”.
