4th/5th Grade Academic Team In late October, each fourth and fifth grade student receives an invitation to

join the Academic Team. Students are expected to attend at least one

practice each week from November – March. Practices give students the

opportunity to enhance individual skills while contributing to a group

endeavour. During the practice sessions, the team members learn the rules

for different events and expand their knowledge of Kentucky’s Core Content

through exploration and review activities. Team members with excellent

attendance, exemplary behavior, and improved statistics are given first

consideration during the competition selection process.

Anchorage Young Musicians Anchorage Young Musicians is expanding and will be meeting at school! The

purpose of this club is to encourage music development and performance

opportunities for instrumental music students at Anchorage school and in

the Anchorage community. Students often are more motivated to practice

when they have a performance to prepare for so this is a great way to

motivate them (and get the most out of your investment in their musical

education too)!

Community Sponsored Activity

Sponsor: Dr. Linda Lightbourne

Parent Volunteers: Meredith Loveless and Nandita Segan

Schedule 2016-2017 program includes:

Concerts—Concerts are designed to be a fun way for music students to

perform in an non-threatening and encouraging environment. The program is

designed to last 45 minutes or less so young children (and parents) can enjoy

the performances in a shorter format. Beginner, intermediate and advanced

students are mixed into the program so young children can be encouraged by

the more advanced students. The program ends with a performance by an

established adult musician! All instruments at all levels are encouraged to

participate. Concerts are being held at Owl Creek Country Club and

Anchorage Music teachers are also encouraged to bring students to create a

community event. Refreshments will be served.

This year's concerts are planned for:

Holiday Concert 12/3/16 2pm Owl Creek Country Club

Spring Concert 4/22/17 3pm Owl Creek Country Club

Community Service—There will be several opportunities for community

service such as performing at nursing homes and other community events.

Opportunities to perform at school based events are also possible.

Town Hall Meetings—Club members will have the opportunity to participate in

quarterly after school town hall meeting with Dr. Lightbourne for another op-

portunity for fun and informal performance.

Wet Your Palette Camp-A-Little started four years ago when our summer art camp students

didn't want to stop coming after their week of camp was over! It has evolved

into an after school art program that is a great outlet for children. Each class

has a balance of creative exploration and art education. Children will thor-

oughly enjoy learning, exploring, observing, and creating in an inclusive, in-

spiring and no pressure at-home environment.

One of our leaders will walk the children from school to the Whet Your Palette
