What to Bring to a Meeting
Ancaster Quilter’s Guild
Welcome to the Fall and what a beautiful start we had. I
regret that I will not be at the meeting in October as I
love the patterns of our guest speaker and would really like to see her trunk show. Sue Lusted has kindly agreed
to run the meeting in my stead.
However, one of our members, Cathy Roberts, organizes cruise groups and she has a large group going to Bermu-
da in mid-October. We depart from Boston so my hus-
band and two of our friends are going to Boston for four days before the cruise. I should also mention that anoth-
er of our members, Denise McKenna, has designed and will teach an exclusive pattern for a wall quilt which we
will work on during our sea days.
We are still in need of two volunteers to help run our
guild. We need a vice-president and a membership ap-prentice. Please consider these positions and how they
might fit into your life! See you in November!

Programme
Our October lecturer is Sherri Hisey from Border Creek Station Pattern Company in Newmarket, On-
tario.
The lecture trunk show topic: Borders and Settings:
Are you ready to set those blocks into a design of your own? The importance of balance in a quilt’s visual
space, how to keep it simple when decoding the math
and some basic rules of thumb of quilt designing. Get-ting it all together in a unique and personal way is key
to Sherri’s distinctive teaching style – there is always a way to process your creative thoughts and ideas into a
finished project just let your imagination soar! Includes
a multi-page handout for all. Sherri will have many patterns to sell and is also bring-
ing a limited number of patterned kits ready to cut and sew. Sit back and enjoy, I know Sherri has lots of in-
formative ideas and suggestions to help you make your quilts a show piece.
Our white glove ladies for October are Barb Gibson, Sue Lusted and Margaret Gibbs. A BIG THANK YOU to
Gisela Ball, Karin Romanowski and Jackie Syer for hold-ing the many quilts from S & T and our two ladies
Janice and Marg who shared their quilt journey with
us. Great job, my arms ache thinking about it. I will be circulating the list again, there are some empty spaces
for one more helper and three blanks the months of December & June for Show & Tell only.

Workshops and UFO Dates
Good day ladies. Workshops are coming along nicely. Wen-
dy and I are working on a few ideas, as we confirm them we
will certainly pass them along. Our next UFO days are Octo-
ber 24 and 25. Need help with a project, looking for a new
idea, or just looking for a break from housework , well join
us and have a fun filled day for $15 or $30 for both days .
We still have room available so please pass this information
along to your friends and quilting buddies, the more the mer-
rier. Please remember we have changed the format it is a "
BAG LUNCH " day, so no need to stress over what to bring,
refreshments will be provided, hopefully this will make things
easier and our numbers will be filled to the max.
Also remember the special UFO day being held at U Quilt It
on November 21st. Wendy and I are visiting Sara to obtain
more information for you on the pro-
gram. If you have EQ7 and are having
problems sorting everything out then
this is for you. Visit our table at guild to
get more details.
See you on the 15th
Janice and Wendy

Comfort Quilts Well ladies, I must tell you that I was a bit nervous on Wednesday, I really wasn’t sure how the
“complete” quilt kits would go over and as always your response was overwhelming. Colleen, Lynda, Teresa, and I want to thank you all so much.
We also want to thank Penny for the lovely cross-stitch blocks, Pat for the pillowcases and Betty for
the lovely quilts and of course we want to thank our long-armers…Mary Macfarlane for the beautiful
bed quilts she completed over the summer and Mark Ryan for the beautiful work he did on 5 of our bed quilts, and he has generously offered to quilt the last of our bed quilts.
Jackie, thank you for your ongoing support of Comfort Quilts, with you heading up the pillow case
production, I’m sure we’ll surpass what we’ve done in previous years. Thank you and I’ve already
signed up and looking forward to the December “pillow-case-a-thon”
Ladies, it looks like another wonderful year is well under way…..and remember we’re looking to get the quilts back in October or November, thank-you.
Mary, Colleen, Lynda and Teresa

Ancaster Fair Report:
Well the fair is over and oh what fun we had and the kids too! We had
prepared 420 squares for pictures, drawings, words etc. We have
most of the blanks filled in ready for assembly and sewing. We have
seen many budding artists of all age range 2-16.
We'd like to say Thank You to all our helpers who made the day a suc-
cess especially Ivy Smart, Louise Zylstra (my niece), Roseanne
Histed, Louise Duthie, Catherine Schuler, and Dianne Thomas.
We have enough material in our stash to keep our squares going for
2015 and 2016 fair so be prepared to volunteer some time at the fair.
Until then have fun sewing.
