1.0 GENERAL

This document covers the design calculations for building named – Anbu Colony - for

India Builders, Chennai.

1.1 Scope

This document contains the following documents for the Building.

1. Design Basis comprising of description of the structure, structural analysis

methodology, framing arrangement.

2. Load calculations

3. ETAB Model comprising of framing sketches and input file

4. ETAB input file

5. Design of pile, column, plinth beam, floor slab & beams, Lintel & sunshade,

staircase, lift machine room and other details required for completion of the

project.

1.2 Units of Measurement

SI units are followed in the analysis and design calculation

ETAB software is used for structural analysis. Microsoft Excel Spreadsheet is used

for load calculations and design.

2.0 SITE CONDITION 

2.1 Site Location

The project site is located at Chennai.

2.2 Foundation

Pile foundation adopted for a depth of 27 m (90’-0”) – dia of pile 600 and 700mm

Load carrying capacity of 600 dia pile – 140 T vertical, 89 KN Lateral

Load carrying capacity of 700 dia pile – 190 T vertical, 119 KN Lateral

2.3 Seismic Conditions

The site is located in Seismic Zone III in accordance with IS: 1893 – 2002 with an

importance factor of 1.00 as per IS: 1893 – 2002 part-4.

Ductility coefficient – 5

Zone factor – 0.16

3.0 MATERIALS 

3.1 Cement

Ordinary Portland cement is used for all concrete works above & below ground level.

3.2 Reinforcement Steel

Reinforced Steel /High Yield Strength Deformed steel bars of grade Fe-500 (CRS) bars

conforming to IS: 1786 is used. (Yield Strength = 500 N/mm2)

3.3 Concrete

M30 Grade concrete is used for columns & M20 Grade concrete is used for Slab & Beams &

Foundation as per IS 456.

3.4 Cover to Reinforcement

Cover to main reinforcement is as follows:

 4.0 DESCRIPTION OF STRUCTURE

4.1 Model

The structure is modeled as a RCC space frame with concrete slab. The frame is considered

as fixed at the foundation level.

4.2 Outline of Building

1. Structure - RC framed structure

2. Foundation system - Pile Foundation

4.3 Structure Description

1. The building is a RCC framed structure with brick cladding. It has Stilt + Four

upper floors.

2. Floor and roof slabs are designed as two way & one way slab (as applicable)

with boundary conditions as required & coefficients given in IS: 456 – (Table-26-

Annexure-D) is used for design of slab spanning in two directions.

3. Building is analyzed as a three dimensional structure in ETAB & design (beam

and column) is also carried out in ETAB.

4. Seismic load is calculated by lumping the masses at all the beam column

 junctions. Seismic loads are applied as concentrated loads (as weight) at the

respective beam column junctions.

4.4 Design Methodology

The sub-structure and superstructure are designed as per limit state method of IS: 456.

Load Combinations

Unfactored load combinations (LC 5 to 9) are used for Foundation bearing pressure check.

Factored Load combinations (LC 10 to 14) with impact factor for reduction in load factor for

seismic condition for design of beams & columns. Hereunder, whenever DL and LL is

combined with seismic, factor of 1.2 is used for all the loads. Whenever DL is combined withseismic, factor of 1.5 is used for all the loads. The Load Combinations shall be referred with

the section ETAB Input of this document.
