Seascape 2012Part of Pelagic, installation Zuiderzee Museum march-october 2012.

Seascape is a contemporary panorama. It shows a week of work of four North Sea fi sherboats.

What appears to be an abstract line drawing at fi rst glance, reveals itself as a time lapse, a route, and has a direction, a beginning an an end, a structure, a reason, a story.

Wall Drawing Wind triptych in the exhibition with the Highland Institute for Contemporary Art, Scotland, 2010 - Polak en Van Bekkum

Wall Drawing Wind (2010) is a work depicting movements in the wind of balloons attached to a meadow wall.

2 Color prints mounted on aluminum, 40x26,5 cm each and an animation of gps-data gathered from the balloon movements.

CattleGrid (2009) shows the related movements of a herd of sheep and a sheepdog in a meadow.

NomadicMILK monoprints in an exhibi-tion (artist impression)

NomadicMILK (2009) shows the movements of nomadic cow herders and truckdrivers who transport powder milk. The NomadicMILK installation shows both monoprints and video.

The NomadicMILK monoprint series consists of 6 sets of 12 monoprints (100x 70 cm each and 340x340 cm in total), each showing one or more routes of herders and truckdrivers.

Spiral Drawing Sunrise

Spiral Drawing Sunrise (2008-present) is a translation of the sunrise at a specifi c geographical location into a spiral drawing by means of the increasing solar power.The opening of “On Geometry and Speculation” A demonstration of the robot with on the wall the brass print of the previous Sunrise performance in Marrakesh.

Amsterdam REALTIME (2002) is one of the fi rst art projects that used GPS as an artistic tool. It is mentioned and shown internationally as a pioneer project.

NomadicMILK (2008-2010) shows the movements of nomadic cow herders and truckdrivers who transport powder milk. The NomadicMILK installation consists of 12 monoprints and duo screen video.

The NomadicMILK monoprint series consists of 6 sets of 12 monoprints (100x 70 cm each and 340x340 cm in total), each showing one or more routes of herders and truckdrivers. Prints are sold individually as pairs and as complete set.

MILKproject (here the complete installation in exhibition in ZKM, Karlsruhe, AU 2004) follows one dairy transport from the udder of the cow in Latvia to the mouth of the consumer in the Netherlands.

‘Souvenir Zeeland: The Landscape as a Place of Work’ (2009)‘Souvenir Zeeland: The Landscape as a Place of Work’ was a summer project that followed the GPS track of a potato farmer. “On Exactitude in Mapping”

“On Exactitude in Mapping”Participatory Performance on personal Cartography.Gent Version (2007)

Script: 1 I draw a circle in the sand and declare it to represent the square were we are

2 I ask everybody present to position themselves around the circle: according to the direction where they came from.

3 I ask everybody present to close their eyes for 30 seconds and concentrate on the route that was taken to arrive here

4 I ask everybody present to step back as much as is needed to make the scale to the circle be fi tting. Problems concern-ing the scale are being solved by mutual agreement

5 Everyone in his turn gets to draw/walk the route with the hand operated sand robot from his starting point to the square

6 people that traveled mutual will still draw their own track. Participants will just as much interfere with the exactitude of each others tracks as is in their nature.

7 when all drawings are done, each person retrieves to his starting point and speaks out his or her name laud and clear. Whoever is in a remote position needs to speak louder, even to the level of shouting

Performing StreetviewDuring the exhibition and symposium Tracing Mobility in Berlin (2011), we did a participatory performance based on the idea of tracing the movement of a panoramic camera in a sequence (as is done by Googles Streetview). This performance can be seen as a precursor to #SandMapping.
