“ It is the intermediate part of the uveal tract. It is vascular and triangular in structure.”
Location:Location: It is located between the iris and choroid.
Parts Of Ciliary Body:Parts Of Ciliary Body:
It is divided into two parts:
1. Pars Plicata.
2. Pars Plana.
1.1. Pars Plicata:Pars Plicata:
It is the anterior one third (about 2mm) wide, it is
vascular.
It consist of :
i. Ciliary Muscles.
ii. Stroma.
iii.Ciliary Processes.
i.i. Ciliary Muscles:Ciliary Muscles: Non-striated having longitudinal, circular and radial
(oblique) fibers.
ii.ii. Stroma:Stroma: It consists of connective tissue, pigments, blood
vessels and nerves.
iii.iii. Ciliary Processes:Ciliary Processes: A finger- like projection about 70-80 in numbers.
These processes are the main site of aqueous production.
2. Pars Plana:2. Pars Plana: It is posterior two third (about 4mm), it is
relatively avascular.
It consist of two epithelial layers:
i. Non pigmented cells.
ii. Pigmented cells.
Epithelial Cells:Epithelial Cells:
Functions Of Ciliary Body:Functions Of Ciliary Body:
It contains Ciliary Muscles which help in accommodation.
Formation of aqueous humour by Ciliary Processes.
It provides attachment to the Zonules. It also anchor the lens in place.
