President, Student Chapter of SME (S133), University of Wisconsin‐Madison (1999). INDUSTRY OUTREACH ACTIVITIES
Outreach Activities at University of Wisconsin‐Madison (2008‐2019)
As the Director of the Center for Quick Response Manufacturing, I have worked with over 250 companies advancing the state of the art of research and practice of lead time reduction. I have developed and refined principles that have broad application in a variety of industries including: heavy manufacturing, light manufacturing, sophisticated electronics, wooden furniture, fabricated plastic and metal parts, ships, hand‐held tools, specialized lighting fixtures, printing, and biotechnology. For the last ten years (2008‐2017) the QRM Center has hosted roughly 12 events each year, covering a variety of research and implementation topics related to manufacturing. These events draw over 700 executives from industries across the US and overseas each year.
Outreach Activities at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (2002‐2008)
QUESTAR III and CIPCE: Collaboration with High school teachers and students to investigate outsourcing issues in manufacturing and develop curriculum models that will increase interest in manufacturing and engineering among high school students.
CEG: Collaboration with Center for Economic Growth, CEG (a New York and NIST supported organization) to investigate challenges and needs of manufacturing industries in Capital District.
INDUSTRY COLLABORATIONS‐QRM CENTER
Expanding the Industry Impact of the QRM Center: I serve as the Director of the Center for Quick Response Manufacturing (2008 to 2019). Since I took over its leadership, I have made conscious efforts to grow the portfolio of research activities to incudes concepts related to global supply
28
chains, warehousing, and distribution. As a result, the Center has grown in terms of funding as well as industry partners (from 32 in 2007 to 60 in 2019) and impact. The activities of the QRM Center in University of Wisconsin‐Madison have resulted in roughly $4.3 Million research contributions since 2008. Several of our industry collaborators have seen bottom‐line impact from our research and been recognized by the State.
Raising National and Global Visibility of the QRM Center: Over the past ten years (2008‐2017), the QRM Center had grown from being regional center for excellence to one with greater national and international appeal. I collaborate extensively with industries across the nation (Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, NOV, Boeing, ALCOA, John Deere, Harley Davidson, Joy Global, Marel, ETC, Rockwell Automation). I have also launched collaborations between UW‐Madison, Texas A&M University and Penn State University. I have played an important role in establishing a QRM research and practice networks through several collaborations across Europe with universities and industries in The Netherlands, Belgium, France, Denmark, Germany, Spain, and Poland. The collaboration has led to joint research programs and sharing of results at annual international conference on QRM.
