President’s Message Dear Devotees,
It is an immense pleasure and honor to be writing this
message. As Sage Yagnavalkya eloquently observed, “A temple is a
state of mind. A temple is a place of tranquility and peace. A temple
is the essence that sustains our day-to-day existence.” This is our
ideal and, on behalf of the Executive Committee, I promise you that
we will endeavor to maintain and preserve the temple’s sanctity and
integrity.
At the outset, I wish to wholeheartedly thank all our past
Presidents and Board members (1979-2011) for their commitment
and leadership. I would also like to thank the current Board for their
cooperation and guidance.
Recently, HSNC/THT has achieved a major milestone by
hiring a priest to perform daily Pujas for the deities and perform
major religious events. The priest will also cater to needs of
individual community members so that traditional Hindu rites and
rituals are performed. We welcomed our priest, Mahadacharya, Sri
Muralikrishna Sarma Bhuvanagiri, who comes from a traditional
Vedic family and a native of Hyderabad, AP, India, on April 11th
,
2012.
The Board appreciates and thanks all the community priests
over the years for their devoted and dedicated puja services at the
temple. Our special thanks to Sri. Manjunath Shamanna who has been
our primary priest since Pratistha of our deities.
Your regular visit to the temple is very important to us. We
want you, your family and your friends to participate and volunteer at
temple programs and events. So far, all major religious events have
been celebrated with great community participation. In addition, the
temple also hosts Balvihar programs, music programs, outreach
activities and guest speakers.
Our Finance Committee has budgeted $ 45,000 towards the
expenses for the 2012 year. The hiring of a priest has obviously
placed an increased financial burden on the Temple. However, the
time, effort and money to run a temple come from individual
contributions by members like you. Your continued support is very
important for our community’s mission. We earnestly request you to
renew your membership if you have not done so already and at the
same time, we encourage those who are not members to join- we
have a nominal annual fee of $150 per family.

Nritya Aradhana: Children interested in participating in a classical dance program should consult with their dance teacher and have her contact Vijaya Ananth at [email protected]. Adults can directly send an email to Vijaya. Sangeetha Aradhana: Anyone that was unable to participate in March Sangeetha Aradhana will be given first preference for participation during this Aradhana. Children that participated in March Aradhana will be accommodated on a first come first serve basis until time slots are filled. Deadline for Registering for both events: August 10, 2012
President’s Message (contd...)
We would also like to propose a new initiative called “a dollar a day”. The priest will include your
name, gothra and nakshatra during daily sankalp at the temple for the welfare and prosperity of your
family. A daily prayer will be done at the temple on behalf of your family. Your payment of $365 can be
made in advance or in installments. For details please email to [email protected].
We not only want to raise funds for the creation of a new temple with priest housing on premises
but also look at modifying the existing building into a cultural hall to satisfy community needs. In addition,
our Balvihar children require class rooms as more and more children are visiting the temple on a weekly
basis. We request you to sponsor various Pujas, donate money generously for the temple expansion. You
have various options to donate. Please send inquiries to [email protected]
Without dedicated volunteers, non-profit organizations cannot run smoothly or organize events and
we are very grateful to our regular volunteers at the temple. But that being said, we need more members to
sign up for Prasad/food coordination, setup and clean up on festival days and during special events.
I would be delighted to receive your feedback on temple activities and fundraising suggestions for the
proposed expansion. The temple is dependent on your support and commitment to fostering the Hindu
community in the Triad. Thank you for giving me an opportunity to serve the temple and the Hindu
Society. I look forward to working with each and every one of you.
Sincerely,
Swami Rajendran

Proudly presents …
First Brahmotsavam Festival
August 23 – 26, 2012
(2424, Huffine Mill Rd, McLeansville, NC 27301)
Priest
Mahadacharya Sri Murali Krishna Sarma
\ \
Dear Devotees,
The Board of Directors of The Triad Hindu
Temple invites you to join us for the First Annual
Brahmotsavam festival. (Third Anniversary of the
Temple) This four day festival will be conducted
by Mahadacharya Sri Murali Krishna Sarma. It
will take place from August 23-26, 2012 at The
Triad Hindu Temple at 2424, Huffine Mill Rd,
McLeansville, NC 27301.
The Brahmotsavam festival is one of the
most important and auspicious Hindu
celebration. Popular stories trace the origin
of this celebration to Brahma, the creator
God, who first conducted this festival to
Lord Balaji. Brahma worshiped Lord Balaji
as a way to give thanks for the Lord’s
protection of mankind. Hence, this utsava
bears his name as “Brahmotsavam,” which
means “Brahma’s Utsavam.”
We have created this brochure to
showcase the various religious and
cultural events scheduled for the First
Annual Brahmotsavam from
August 23-26, 2012.
The Brahmotsavam festival provides a
unique opportunity for all devotees to
participate in pujas and events, thereby
experiencing the heavenly feeling of
receiving Lord Brahma, Vishnu and
Shiva’s blessings. To invoke the blessings
of the Almighty God for you and your
family, the temple encourages you to
perform different forms of “Seva” on all
four days.

Welcomes New Priest
Mahadacharya, Sri Muralikrishna Sarma Bhuvanagiri
www.triadhindutemple.org
HSNC/THT has achieved a major milestone in hiring an in-house priest
to not only perform daily Pujas for the deities and major religious
events, but also to cater to individual community members’ needs so that
all traditional Hindu rites and rituals are performed.
Our Priest, Mahadacharya, Sri Muralikrishna Sarma Bhuvanagiri,
comes from a traditional Vedic family and is a native of Hyderabad, AP,
India. He is fluent in his native language, Telugu, Sanskrit, Hindi and
English and can understand a few other Indian languages. Sri. Sarmaaji
is married and has less than a year old baby girl. His wife Smt. Lakshmi
Prasanna and child have recently joined him.
Sri. Sarmaaji can perform all Pujas, Havans, Shanti Pariharas and Srardhadhi Karmas at your
house. A detailed list of Shodasha samskaras for Community from pre-birth to funeral rites
services he can perform are listed in the temple website.
His Temple related work experiences to include: Devalaya Samprokshanam; Nitya
Shodasopachara Puja; Abhishekams, Alankarams, Archanas; Aalya utsava; Temple Festivals like
Brahmotsavam, Kalyanotsavam. Devalaya Prathistapanas; Devalaya Kumbhabishekams; all
homams to Devatas: Chandi homam, Sri Sudarshana Homam and various other Yagnams
normally done only in Temples.
He can teach Vedas, Slokas, Sahasranama, Bhagavatgita, and has done upanyasams.
He was conducting a Programme in BHAKTI television by name NOMULUVRATALU for the
last 2 years. This was nominated for the television Nandi awards. His hobbies are Devotional
Discourses, Upanyasam, Singing Bhajans, Satsang & Puranapatanam (reading and storytelling

It is estimated that our annual expenses for the priest will be approximately $25,000 (salary,
housing & Medical/Dental/Vision insurance, auto insurance, life insurance, and other allowances).
The budget has increased significantly, and we are depending on your generosity to cover these
expenses. We encourage every family in our community to avail priest services for a special day
of your life (wedding anniversary, birthday, Sarawathi puja, Satyanarayana katha, Aayushya
Homam, etc.) and receive blessings from him.
To request priest services, please send an email to : [email protected]
A list of services that can be performed by our priest is available in the temple website,

HSNC Bal Vihar/Youth Outreach Programs “A child is not a vessel to be filled, but a lamp to be lit.”-Swami Chinmayananda
The purpose of Balvihar is to develop an awareness of our Hindu cultural and spiritual heritage,
traditions, and values. Through the medium of stories, bhajans, shlokas, Vedas, crafts and games, children
learn the tenets of Sanatana Dharma. Additional purpose is to instill pride and confidence in children
about their identity.
Balvihar meets twice a month at the temple on Sundays and has successfully completed 7 years.
This year, we have ~40 children (aged 5-15) attending Balvihar. The class is structured as Bala (ages 5-
10) and Yuva (age >10). Balvihar students participate in Temple Pujas by chanting Vedas and Shlokas,
bhajans and leading Maha Aarti. Balvihar students also engage in activities of social commitment, such as
a Winter Coat Drive and donated 35 winter coats to the Salvation Army.
Listed below are select learning outcomes and activities:
Balvihar Bala (Shlokas, Gayatri, Stories from Ramayana and Mahabharata, arts and crafts, bhajans, map of
India)
Balvihar Yuva (Vedas, specifically, Ganesh Atharvaseersh, Purusha Suktam, Sri Suktam; 16 Step Puja Vidhi,
9 Core beliefs of Hinduism, Dhyanam, Hindu Festivals and Bhajans).
Our teachers are Ramya Santanam, Vijaya Sankaran, Srikanth Ghantae and Mini Santhosh. Our
parent-teacher liaison is Yogita Desai. Additional information about Balvihar is available in the Temple
website.
Urban Ministry It is going on 17 years since the Hindu Temple of the Triad has been affiliated with the Urban Ministry as
part of its outreach program. Sincere thanks to the many volunteers who have given their time and energy
to this cause.
The camaraderie, the feeling of giving and the gratification that is felt when the well fed diners come to
share with us their gratitude, are only a few reasons to get involved in this effort. It is also a wonderful
platform for high school kids to get in their volunteer hours.
March 28th
dinner was sponsored by Seema & CM Ananad and Lakshmi & Venkat Iyer.
June 27th
dinner was sponsored by Kiran Purswani and Rajee & Mohan Harwani. Thanks to all the
volunteers who came in that made it possible.
You can help out by the following ways.
August 2012 Issue Page 9
1. Sponsor the dinner. This entails preparing a menu, buying the groceries and cooking the dinner with the
help of volunteers. This process will be done with the assistance of the Temple’s liaison with the Urban
Ministry, Nalini Sankar
2. Volunteering your time and energy. Volunteers are needed from 4.30 until 8.30. You are not expected to
stay the entire time. Your help would be most effective if you can come in at 4.30 for the initial prep and
cooking and at 7.00 for the serving of the meal and the clean up after that.
3. Children above the age of five enjoy helping especially in the beginning with setting up the table,
buttering the bread and so on. Young children are discouraged to be around at the meal time.
If you have never participated, I request you to take this opportunity to be a part of the community at large
and enjoy the gratification of feeding the homeless. You can get an idea of how the volunteers help out by
going to the Temple’s website and browsing through the pictures. Hats off to the many families that have
volunteered at the Urban Ministry over the years! If you have any pictures from your collection, please
send them on to [email protected].
The next Urban Ministry day is September 26th
. Volunteers to assist with the cooking and serving are
needed any time between 5pm and 8:30pm. If you would like to sponsor or co-sponsor the September or
December dinners or help volunteer to cook/serve, please contact Nalini Sankar (phone 207-0999) or
email [email protected].
Jan-July 2012 Special Temple Events January: Our Triad Hindu Temple heralded the New Year with the customary Ganesh Puja. Vedic chants of Sri
Ganesh Atharvaseersh filled the temple with religious aura. The 2012 religious calendar/panchang was distributed
to all devotees. The new temple calendar contains all the Thithi, Vara, Nakshathra, Rahu Kala, Mahurtha Kala and
festival details and beautiful pictures of our deities. Secure your copy today if you have not already done so!
A special Rudrabhisekha puja was conducted in January. Vaikunta Ekadesi was observed with the grand
Uttara dwara Darshan and procession at 5:00 am, followed by Sri Vishnu Sahasranama chanting and bhajans in
the evening. We welcomed the spring festival, Makara Sankranthi with a puja to Sri Suryanarayana Swami. A
traditional Navagraha puja was also conducted on this day.
The 2012 temple BoD was elected with Sri Swami Rajendran as President of the Triad Hindu Temple.
Balvihar classes commenced in January and the temple saw a good turnout of enthusiastic children and parents
.
February: Pujas for Sri Ganesh, Ram Pariva, Subramanya and Sathya Narayana were performed in February.
Pradosham and Maha Shivarathri were celebrated in all grandeur this month. A 2 jama puja with sacred chants of
Sri Rudram/Chamakam accompanied the Rudrabhisekam that was performed by all devotees. The Greensboro Sai
Center and the Triad Hindu community sang bhajans and stayed through the snowy night to make the Shivaratri
celebrations truly memorable. Balvihar kids dressed as Hindu deities added charm to the event and sang several
bhajans. A special mention to Adith, who dressed up as Sri Narayana and performed abhisheka to Sri Shiva,
reminding devotees of Rameshwara where Sri Shiva’s puja was performed by Sri Rama himself. The Shivaratri
celebrations concluded at 1:00 am with chanting of Shiva Purana.
March: Pujas to Sri Venkateshwara, Maha Lakshmi, Ganesh and Sathya Narayana Swami were performed in
March. Chandramana Ugadi was celebrated on March 25th with Panchanga Puja and Durga Mata Puja. Durga
puja was specially performed with the chanting of Sri Lalitha Sahasranama, Durga suktha, Purusha Suktha, Sri
Suktha and Lalitha Threeshathi.
Ugadi and Sri Ram Navami were celebrated with Sri Sundara Kanda parayana in Mrs. Priya Bagga’s
leadership. Special abhishekas were performed to Sri Ram Parivar amidst the chanting of Sri Vishnu Sahasranama
on the auspices of Ram Navami. Sri Hanuman puja was conducted the following weekend with special prayers to
River Pampa (Lord Hanuman’s birth place).

April: April witnessed a land mark in the history of our temple. Our first full time priest Shri Murali Krishna
Sharma (respectfully called as Sharmaji) was welcomed to the Hindu community on Hindu New Year’s day, April
14. A special devotional music treat was rendered by the talented singers of the Charlotte Sai Center.
Sharmaji is a learned scholar, well-versed in a variety of puja vidhis and we are positive that our temple will grow
exponentially under his guidance. At this juncture, we gratefully acknowledge the tireless services of our
community priests, Sri Manjunath, Sri Ramanathan and Sri Swami Rajendran who have devotedly offered their
time and service since the Pratishtapana in 2009.
May: With a full-time priest, the Temple has been operational every-day of the week. There have been variety of
pujas for all our deities as updated in the temple calendar.
June to July: We celebrated the annual Saraswathi Puja for all graduates and Balvihar day on June 3
rd.
July 15th - Quarterly Vishnu Sahasranama Parayanam by Netra Shivakumar and group.
July 27th Samuhika Varalakshmi Puja by ladies.
If anyone in the community would like to sponsor a learned, Hindu religious or spiritual scholar to
give a discourse at the Hindu Temple, please contact any member of the Board.
Music Programs Triad temple was enriched with a lot of music during the first half year. We had a Jugalbandi vocal
concert featuring Anita Kulkarni (Hindustani) and Smitha Prasad (Carnatic) with accompanists from
Raleigh area on Feb. 4, 2012. This program was attended by more than 100 community members.
Our music program for March was the
annual Sangeetha Aradhana on March
24th. This year, the event ran for about 8 hours
and saw participation from more than 60
community members of all ages from
Greensboro, Winston-Salem, High-Point,
Raleigh and Charlotte. The day started with an
essay competition for children and musical
offerings were made by individuals and small
groups. A quiz competition was also
conducted for children and the picture shows all
the children that participated and completed the
quiz.
August 2012 Issue Page 11
