Pollen is the powder on the end of the stamen. It is comes off of the stamen easily, so if you touch it you will usually get pollen stuck to you.

Pollen fell off the stamen and onto the petal on this

flower.

This bee has pollen from the stamen of a flower stuck to him.

Next

Page 28: Anan StAIR Project: Flowering Plants

Pollen is important because it works with the pistil to create a new flower.

The pistil of a flower is sticky. When the pollen from the stamen touches the pistil, the pollen sticks to the pistil.

The pollen and the pistil combine to create a flower seed. The seed grows inside of the pistil until it comes out of the flower and falls to the ground. If it falls to the right spot, it will grow into a new flower.

Pollination is when bees collect nectar from

flowers and form new seeds.

Pollination is when the petals touch the pistil and a seed is formed.

Pollination is when humans pick flowers from their gardens.

Pollination is when pollen from the stamen touches the pistil and a new seed is formed.

Page 32: Anan StAIR Project: Flowering Plants

Great job! You remembered what pollination is. When the pollen from the stamen sticks to the pistil, a new flower seed is formed. That seed will eventually grow into a new flower.
