Analysis of Student’s Feedback on Curriculum Design and Implementation for the year 2017-18 1 About the survey The Internal Quality Assurance Cell of the College used to collect and analyse feedbacks from students on various matters relating to academics and administration of the college. Curriculum feedback is a major part of such exercise. In 2017-18 we have framed 11 statements which essentially capture the various aspects of curriculum design and implementation. Online survey using google forms were used to collect student’s responses. Out of 903 students, 805 were responded to the survey which translates into a response rate of 89.13%. Five point agreement scale were used to assess students rating on various curriculum aspects. The results were further analysed using tables, percentages and diagrams. 2 Profile of the Students Profile of the students such as gender, Programmes studying , Semester last attended etc. were collected and analysed in order know the distribution of students. The result of the profile analysis are summarised in the following tables

1 About the survey

The Internal Quality Assurance Cell of the College used to collect and analyse feedbacks from students on various matters

relating to academics and administration of the college. Curriculum feedback is a major part of such exercise. In 2017-18 we have

framed 11 statements which essentially capture the various aspects of curriculum design and implementation. Online survey using

google forms were used to collect student’s responses. Out of 903 students, 805 were responded to the survey which translates into

a response rate of 89.13%. Five point agreement scale were used to assess students rating on various curriculum aspects. The results

were further analysed using tables, percentages and diagrams.

2 Profile of the Students

Profile of the students such as gender, Programmes studying , Semester last attended etc. were collected and analysed in order

know the distribution of students. The result of the profile analysis are summarised in the following tables

2.1 Distribution of the students by Gender

Table 1.1 shows that 55 percentage of the students are girls and respt 45 percent are boys. It indicates that ratio of girls

students is high in the college.

Table 1.2 indicates that the college has different student’s strength for various programmes. B.com students account for 20 percent of

the total while Psychology programme has only 10 percent representation in the total students strength.

Table 1.3 indicates that third and fourth semester students responded to the survey more actively that first and second semester. Fifth

and sixth semester participation is showing low because MA course do not have firth or six semsters.

3 Responses about Curriculum design

Six major dimension of curriculum design were identified and given for rating by students such as demanding portfolio of

programmes, well-structured syllabus, progressive modules, up-to-date contents, inter disciplinary links and Integration of cross

cutting issues to curriculum. The summary of results from the survey is presented in the following bar charts.

3.1 Demanding portfolio of programmes

The figure 1.1 shows that a large majority of the students agree to the statement that the programmes offered in the college are

suitable demanding in the current scenario. It justify the selection of programme made by the college management.

3.2 Well-structured syllabus

Figure 1.2 shows that a large majority of the students agree to the statements that the syllabus prescribed for the programme is

well organised and structured. It indicates quality of the syllabus of the university.

3.3 Progressive Modules

Figure 1.3 depicts that majority of the students have the opinion that modules of the courses are appropriately sequenced and

progressive. It spells out the quality of the syllabus taught under the university.

3.4 Content of the Course

Figure 1.4 represent that most of the respondent have marked strongly agree or agree to the statement that content of the courses

offered under my programme is up-to-date and relevant. It further reveal the strength of the curriculum design of the university.

3.5 Inter disciplinary links

Figure 1.5 indicates that more than half of the respondents have marked positive responses to the statement that the curriculum

has inter disciplinary links.

3.6 Integration of Cross cutting issues to Curriculum

Figure 1.6 depicts that most of the students have assigned a positive rating to the statement that institution integrates cross cutting issues

relevant to Gender, Environment and Sustainability, Human Values and Professional Ethics into the Curriculum. It indicates the capability of the

university curriculum to address such currently important issues.

4 Response about Curriculum Implementation

Five major components of Curriculum implementation were identified and given for rating by students. The different aspects of

curriculum implementation evaluated in this survey are quality and experience of the staff, flexibility to choose value added courses, ,

Transparency of Internal evaluation system, ethical and moral component from the campus and overall learning environment provided. Five

point agreement scale were used to measure student’s opinion on these variables. The result of the analysis are presented in the form of

bar diagrams as shown below.

4.1 Quality and experience of the staff

Figure 1.7 shows that more than eighty percent of the respondents are either strongly agree or agree to the statement that the classes

were handled by qualified and experienced people. It is indicating the quality of teaching staffs of the institution in delivering the

curriculum.

4.2 Flexibility to choose value added courses

Figure 1.8 reveals that significantly a large majority of the students have the opinion that the college offers flexibility to them in

choosing value added courses along with their regular curriculum.

4.3 Effectiveness of Internal Evaluation System

effective.

4.4 Excellent learning environment

Figure 1.10 indicates that students are very positively responded to the statement that overall learning environment offered in the

campus are excellent.

4.5 Ethical components of the campus life

Figure 1.11 shows that significantly a large majority of the students opined that the campus life integrates ethical and moral

components in to the life of the students/

5 Conclusion

Based on the online suvey conducted among the students at the end the academic year, it is found that students have the view that the

curriculum of the Calicut University at UG and PG level are adequately designed to cater to the needs of the time. It can be concluded

that students strongly agree to the fact that amal college is successful and effective in implementing the curriculum in the best possible

way. The survey results are to be discussed in the college council and take necessary actions
